That said, after today's visit, I stand corrected. The exterior is run down and the lighting inside is depressing, but the place is clean, the staff is nice and the pricing is competitive. If this place had a robust meat selection, I think they could give Uwajimaya a run. I didn't find everything I was looking for, but the dry spices and vegetables were exactly what I was after. I didn't see cabbage or celery, but the selection was still more diverse than any other store I've visited. My singular knock was the two guys stocking the store. Both were kind and polite, but they also had radios blasting music. I'm sensitive to sound, so it made it hard for me to focus and I'm sure a couple items I was after I missed, because I couldn't stay in the area where they were stocking merch. Seattle's Chinatown district has been on a decline due to crimes/violence/vandalism since Covid til now, but Uwajimaya holds strong. Getting fresh, locally sourced food is literally the only reason we order from them. We had an order that was supposed to be delivered on Thanksgiving morning (that's what it said on their newsletter), but it arrived on Friday instead. When we contacted customer service, they gave defensive response that three minutes after we placed the order, the system updated to the "correct" delivery date, even though their newsletter said they don't deliver on that date.
