Started going here after the location in Sea-Tac disappointed with terrible customer service (at the higher level; the stockers, for instance, are great). Have had better luck here in terms of customer service; however, like most Safeways for soem reason it is plagued by what you might call less-than-favorable clientele. One way to tell, besides immediately in the parking lot, where there is A LOT of questionable loitering, is the sign upon entry that no large bags are allowed. Want to emphasize we have not so far had any problem here, and that the pharmacy staff in both locations are wonderful. read more

I mostly drop in at lunchtime and get something from the deli counter. Usually it's chicken wings. I love their barbecue wings but now they've changed things and cut back on their deli selection. I go here all the time. I pick my prescriptions and groceries here. I've never had a problem. My prescriptions are always ready when I need them. And this place has food that I buy. Simple right? If it's the store on Rainier Ave, it's not good. Doors are blocked, police are always on hand, visible. It doesn't feel comfortable. I avoid it if possible. But, the gas is priced OK, and you don't have to deal with anyone other than the person in the glass cage. read more

Could be a great store but those days are past. I've been around this area for more than 25 years and this store is as bad as it's ever been. Currently a Saturday night at 6pm and there are 2 lines open but 23 people waiting in line. There is a self check out. 4 stations and 9 people waiting. Chronically understaffed. People standing in long lines with one or two checkers and there is nobody else. Leads to no help for those who need it and an open invitation to steal merchandise. Nobody is watching or will do anything. Dirty. The bathrooms are disgusting, they allow people to bring any dog in the store in spite of notices that say service dogs only. The produce section could use a wash. Staff are non verbal. No greeting. No thank you when I've just spent a day's wages. No eye contact. Zombies. Allowing people to sit on the handicap carts, charge their phones and talk on phones in spite of sign asking people to not do that. When pointed out to the staff, get shrugged shoulders and nothing else. What's an old person supposed to do? Management doesn't care at all if you bring concerns. To me, this location is on par with the other Safeway locations I've been to around downtown Seattle. We were in the area after visiting my very favorite plant shop up the street. So I was actually happy when we saw Safeway and decided to pick up food to make at home instead of dining out. I was able to easily find what I was looking for based on the other Safeways I've been to (most have a similar layout) so that was nice. read more

I only stop by this store at night while I'm walking home from a night on the town, so my perception could be skewed. The only reason I go to this store is because it's within super easy walking distance of downtown, I actually prefer the gas station across the street, but sometimes you just need a grocery store. This Safeway has everything you'd expect to find in a Safeway. I've learned to avoid the bathrooms, but the rest of the store is pretty clean. Recently discovered that Safeway's Fresh Pass program leaves a bad taste in your mouth and Safeway's leadership does NOT CARE!!! I have been awaiting a callback, to NO AVAIL, from Safeway's leadership for OVER A WEEK!!! As a Fresh Pass member, Safeway is SUPPOSED to apply a $5 credit to members' accounts, and it is SUPPOSED to be credited during checkout. However, I was just informed by an agent that on my most recent order, the $5 credit was NOT fully applied. YET, the difference was NOT returned to my account!! The ONLY way that I discovered this was because I spent over 1 1/2 hours on the phone, TRYING to get someone in management to speak with me!! Super ghetto Safeway, I called their pharmacy 6 times and no one answers, I went in the store and waited over 30 min in line to talk to someone and the line didn't move. Avoid. Staffing is terrible, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. I've waited 20 minutes to check out. This last Friday, the cashier was too busy chatting up a specific customer, who apparently needed a total of 4 people with her, to pay. I rarely see this cashier, and now pretty much only avoid her. The staff, GENERALLY, is quite good. I'm quite fond of a few of them. One in particular seems to comment frequently on purchase choices. Not a fan. The patronage of this place, in the evening, makes me uncomfortable. I've watched a gentleman walk through one set of doors, shouting obscenities about white people, then exit through the other door. I've watched people who seem very high and/or drunk buy alcohol. People who try to have a conversation with the cashier, but fumble and stumble and crumble at trying to create words as they go. It's worrisome. This is the worst Safeway in the area. Go up Petrovitsky for the nicest, go up 4th for the biggest, and 24/7 Safeway with gas. Take highway 900 if you're in a rush. Avoid this one. Nastiest pre made sushi boxes! I fought some sushi at another Safeway and it was so good, was around $7 for spicy shrimp rolls. Had a craving, came to this location and they had two options and only for $3.99 (already a bad sign) it tastes like... dunno... but doesn't taste like real rice. Gross!!! Horrible customer service. Got ripped off for $1.10, by the Deli Clerk, Kim. Kim labeled my breakfast sandwich as a Turkey Bacon Sandwich for $5.99. Which comes out to be around $6.60 with tax, where it was supposed be $2.99, about $3.30 with tax. I paid at the normal cashier line and the Cashier directed me back to the deli to be refunded by Kim. She first tried to make another sandwich for me but I said, "No." she pretended to punch numbers in and gave me $2.20 back with out a refund for receipt. read more

This review is towards the Starbucks located inside this Safeway. This was the worst service that I ever encountered from a barista. Her name was Arbriana (spelling?). She was by herself. When I approached the counter she was stacking up cups. She already had a scowl look on her face and I had a gut feeling that this wasn't going to be pleasant. Boy, was I right. She glared up at me for a couple of seconds before forcing the word "Hi" out. No smile or anything. It was such an unwelcoming feeling that I didn't even want to give her my order. I just ignored that thinking she had a bad day, everyone is bound to have one of those days. When I proceeded with my order (extra hot white chocolate mocha with whip) she rolled her eyes when I said extra hot. My total came out for $4.11. I have her a $10 bill, 1 penny and 1 dime. I was expecting $6 back but she handed me some change. I told her that I gave her 11 cents so I shouldn't get back any change. Then she looked at the register and she said I gave her 6 cents. I told her I gave her a dime and a penny. She looked at the registered again and took out a nickel and a dime and she said I gave her 15 cents. I then repeated that I gave her a dime and a penny. She argued stating that I gave her 15 cents. Then I said " Does it really matter?" I didn't want to have this argument over a 4 cents difference. I was very close to asking for my money back and just walking away because she was so rude. The fact was that I gave her enough and I just wanted bills back rather than change. She then rolled her eyes again and started making my drink. I had to walk to the other side of the counter so I can see what she was doing. I was really scared that she was going to spit in my drink. Then when she was done, she quietly slammed the drink on the counter. I should have went with my first instinct and walked away. I paid $4 for the worst white chocolate mocha, it just tasted like hot milk. Forget about asking her to remake it. She obviously does not know what customer service is. I was so upset I called customer service right away. I spoke with a manager explaining what I had just experience and she was very apologetic. She even offered two coupons for free drinks in the future. At first I didn't accept it because I wasn't looking for a free drink but my drink was so bad I knew I ended up throwing it away. The manager handled the situation very nicely. Overall this is your typical Safeway. I've never had a bad experience here other than my Starbucks incident. read more

My second visit to this store and my last ever. I have shopped at various Safeway stores all across the county for nearly 60 years this store is disorganized and the manager would rather belittle his employees and ignore the customer. I tried to self check out and the bundle of Safeway bags dropped on the scale and the machine started the warning that I must remove a non scanned item due to the weight of the shopping bags that dropped. The manager ran over and grabbed my items I had already scanned and processed to delay me from scanning the remaining items. I told him I would rather start over scanning but he continued to finger through my items and making accusations that I had dropped a un-scanned item in my bag. It's bad enough that I had to self check my items but now I'm getting harassed by an over weight grocery store manager. He would not stop fooling with my produce so I decided to give up on Safeway and I left the store with an expletive I reserve only for rare occasions. Good by Safeway.... read more
