When you offer a personalized deal..you should have the item in stock or issue a rain check. I have been to this Safeway 2 times in the past 5 days to pick up laundry soap and a bakery item. Both items were out of stock. I requested a rain check but was told rain checks are not issued on some of their personalized Just 4 U deals. Also, watch your receipt as I notice being overcharged on multiple occasions as well. read more

Everything is great and up to snuff. Why would anyone give one star? Because the manager doesn't realize when the lines are too long. It's like always, weekends, mid-days, evenings go see for yourself. I love Safeway but not this particular location. read more

Fineally had it with Safeway on Santa Rita. Nice employees but so understaffed. Often times the meat and milk are out of date. think I am saving time from driving across town to Raileys but I am not as the lines and lack of quality at this Safeway are too much. Raileys here I come! read more

I like this safeway. It is really close to my home so it is easy for me. It is very clean and the people for the most part are very friendly. Now we come to why I am giving them 2 stars in this review. On friday after I got off of work I swung by safeway to get a birthday balloon. I was tired from being on my feet for the last 9 hours and all I wanted to do was get in and get out. There were no pre-done balloons so I went over to the floral department. I stood there for a few minutes waiting for someone and eventually someone came over to ask if I had been helped. I told them no I had not. They then said I would be helped soon and walked away. So then a floral worker eventually showed up but she was helping somebody. She helped this other person for 20 minutes. I kept telling my self to leave but then thinking I would be helped soon. But it took forever. At last I was helped and they lady never even apologized for the wait. Bad customer service move. Next time I need a balloon I know that I should look somewhere else, read more

Worst service ever. You'd think corporate office would look at all negative reviews and act accordingly. But I guess they don't care. Cashier is also the bagger. When I asked cashier why they don't have baggers, the cashier said because the management is too cheap to hire anyone. Great. Most expensive grocery stores anywhere. Plus they always seem to allow people with more than 15 items to use the express lane. read more

Highest grossing Safeway in the region yet they can only staff 2 checkouts stands. Always waiting in line here

People only Yelp when they have a bad experience. How about giving this store some love. They have been a staple In Pleasanton as long as I can remember. I have seen first hand how much the give back to the community. Rant to you all bitter, self entitled customers who can't spare 10 minutes of their life to wait in line. Unreal expectations! read more

The lines are ridiculous. Ordered a cake, waited over 20 minutes at an empty bakery to pickup. Requested customer service 3 times to get someone there to retrieve cake. They were just completely overwhelmed. The bakery person was on lunch. The backup was working the front registers which were at least 6 people deep. I ended up leaving without the cake and buying dessert at Raley's which makes a wonderful tiramisu. read more

This review is for the deli only....Over the past 2 months I have mailed in 3 different comment cards and spoke to the acting store manager and called the corporate offices and still, the kiosks at the deli department are not working. I like going to the Safeway deli because it is very close to my job and not too expensive not to mention you get your 8th sandwich free. However, I have had it!!!! I stood in line for over 20 minutes to order and receive my sandwich and was told to go to the long check out lines to pay for my sandwich! After 40 minutes I was finally out the door! I told tha manager "You know, I could have just walked out of here without paying!!" Good thing I have an hour lunch break!! Today, I go there any they are out of sliced sourdough bread!! This is a grocery store for heaven's sake!!! I have spoke to the manager and corporate about the level of service and still nothing.....I normally do not post negitive reviews but I have finally had it. I really hope things change soon!!!!!!!!!! read more

This post is only for the deli. The employees are consistently terrible. They all seem to dislike making sandwiches. They are very slow and the service is awful. We love Safeway as a grocery store but cannot stand the sandwich makers and their lack of service. read more

OH I WISH THERE WAS ZERO STARS. I there this Halloween morning, expecting more prepped food for Halloween Party's. There was not much. Every SINGLE isle of the store had a third party vendor stocking the shelfs, not one of them excuse themselves to get out of the way. It's like driving a mario cart game to maneuver around them. There were 20 people doing self check out, and one checker. I asked the bagger to just but the bread in one bag so that it does not get crushed and he started filling it with other stuff, I had to re-state my request a few times...."uh-ok" he said. I won't be back to this Safeway. I spoke to someone who looked like a manager, but she was not, and just said "sorry, I will tell the general manager" Worst experience in a grocery store! read more

This may be...no this has to be the WORST grocery store in the country! A meat department that doesn't cut most of its meat rather puts inferior cuts in a poorly stocked case or with no stock before 8:00. A produce department from which its impossible to find an onion that's not crap on the inside or a bag of potatoes that stays fresh for a week. EIGHT registers with seldom more than one checker. Poor attitude by the clerks? Not their fault as they are few and overworked. Don't bother looking for a manager...too busy hiding in their office likely. This in a store with headquarters five miles away. Shameful! read more

This is on the Floral Departmanent: Employee named Rita....I have come here to this Safeway every year for graduation flowers and this employee was just straight rude from when I had arrived. I had asked if she had a specific ribbon color and she replied with no they always only have 2 colors which is A LIE...she kept asking if I was done making the payment on the register when I was clearly done if the receipt comes out. Once she was done with my flowers she slammed them on the counter and said there you go. I was already beyond annoyed. To top it off the clear wrap on the flowers was covering the flowers just straight trashy arrangement. I had to undo the flowers and somehow someway put them together without the plastic being overlaying the flowers. I will give them another chance for flowers in the future but will make sure RITA won't be doing my flowers. Please teach your employees the importance of customer service and first impression as it is not our fault if they are having a bad day. read more

This was a convenient and ample store. I was pleasantly surprised at the variety in the produce and the wine shop. Great store.

This store is a mess. Overpriced, expired foods, terrible avocados priced way too high, etc. Worst of all though is the horrendous level of service at their customer service desk, deli and particularly this week, FLORAL! I waited 23 mins in floral with NO attendant at 130pm. I had someone call over the PA three times and no rep came. I then left with no corsage order after waiting endlessly! This however, is just common practice for their customer service desk too. IF you even get a live person working, it's still a game of waiting waiting waiting. And one woman specifically there is not trained on their new checkout computer system. Ugh. If you really want to jump out of your skin, order several sandwiches and check your blood pressure at the end of that wait time!!!!!!! Get it together Safeway. You're better than this! read more

I shop at Safeway all the time. There are major differences between the stores. I have been going to the Safeway on Bernal in Plesanton for years, but now shop at the one on Santa Rita. This store is dirty, they never have shopping baskets, and the employees are not easy to deal with. Yesterday I asked a Safeway employee if the sourdough bread was fresh, and he sneared at me and told me it was fresh as it is going to get. They are out of a lot of items compared to other Safeway stores, and they do not put things in the same places. The self checkout is always crowded and at least one of the machines is always down. I wish they could move the one on Bernal to Santa Rita. read more

$7.49 for farm fresh eggs these are not pak n save prices yet I still have to bag my own groceries.

Been shopping at this safeway since it opened. Pros - Well stocked. Clean. Open late. Cons- OVERPRICED! Three dollars for a head of lettuce that isn't very fresh? I think not. Meat is not that great. Ranchers reserve steaks are tough and flavorless. Stick with Genes for meat and Smart and Final for reasonably priced staples. read more

This was probably the worst experience I have had at a grocery store. Longer lines are even more tolerable. I came into the store on Monday night around 9pm. There were only three registers opened and two of which were self check out. After one of the customers had finished their transaction at the self check out, the cashier Bianca came and closed the register leaving only one self check out with a group of young boys each doing an separate transaction. She never said we apologize for the wait or inconvenience. She only looked at me as if I was wrong for shopping at this store. I will NEVER shop in a Safeway store again. This is how retailers are loosing so much business. If Safeway believes that they have no competition they need to look again as Amazon has just acquired Whole Foods and will continue to grow and knock out all of the other retailers in every business. read more

The service and merchandise at this Safeway continue to decline and the prices continue to rise. Many times produce covered in mold is left on display, ready for the customer to buy. Pre made salad bowls are sitting on the shelves, beyond their expiration date. The meat department is under stocked and the butchers become surly if asked to help find a particular cut of meat or prepare one from behind the counter. The lines are long and the cashiers argue over coupons which are presented. They claim the item is already discounted if the customer has a Safeway loyalty card and therefor using the coupon would be double dipping. The cashiers and baggers are not trained in bagging ie putting heavy items on top of fragile etc. if Safeway continues on this path, I will convert to shopping at the Walmart grocery store on Santa Rita Rd. Upon first glance, it has the same merchandise as Safeway at half the price. read more

The positives include convenience and variety of this super-size grocery store. The negatives include poor-quality meats & produce. And their bakery bagels taste like stale bread - yuck! There are better choices out there for groceries in Pleasanton. read more

Overpriced. Rude staff. Since this store is so close to my home I do shop here from time to time. Disappointed every time. Save your time and money and shop at Smart & Final. read more

I was walking through the store one day just doing my groceries as usual when I notice the assistant store manager (I think his name was Jason) yelling at his employees. Employees should be treated with respect. I do not think this negativity is good for the mood of the store. I will probably not be coming back to this location any time soon. (I made a Yelp account just to report this scum bag) read more

Great Safeway. Clean, nice, have everything and of course, the staff is always willing to help (sometimes I don't want it, but I know they are there). The plus is self checkout so no one can scrutinize my midnight purchase of fish sticks after a long night of drinking! read more

Had to stop in Pleasanton for business. I was early and hungry and Safeway was super close. Went to the deli to get something quick, of course I was so hungry I couldn't make up my mind looking at all the food. I wandered up and down the display cases for a few minutes and finally decided to get a sandwich and some salad. There were no other customers waiting, 3 workers were talking so I stood waiting. 2 walked away and left Lupe to help me. She started with me at the salad end then walked to the other end of the deli to make my sandwich. I ordered the chipotle which she made perfect with everything I asked for. By now there was another lady waiting with no one coming to help her Lupe started with her. There were at least 10 other workers behind the counter that ignored customers. I wanted to pay there so Lupe went out of her way to get someone to ring me up. The food was fine but the star of this review is Lupe. Minus one star for the rest of the department that ignored customers. read more

Safeway is advertising Garden Green Peas at the beginning of the commercial currently showing and when you go to the store the workers walk you over to the snap peas. I had a pleasant shopping experience here. It's the highlight of my day ordering sandwiches at the deli because I always happen to bump into one very sweet lady who's so cooperative and friendly! She has an accent and I believe her name starts with an A. The sweetest worker I've ever encountered at a grocery store. read more

This Safeway is way too small and crowded. This is why I do all my shopping at the new Livermore Safeway on First Street instead.

I'm in Safeway today grabbing a few items while on lunch. I make my purchase at the Deli because I purchased something from there, the girls in the Deli didn't have any bags so they told me to get one from one of the registers. I walked by self-check out but the lady working that area was busy helping other customers so I grab a bag and leave the store with my items and one of those little hand-held baskets. I reach a cart outside sit the basket inside of the cart and attempt to unload my items into the bag when 2 guys approach me one requested my receipt. I said for what, and the other guy said because you can't buy liquor through self-check out. I said what I didn't buy anything through self-check out didn't I just see you in the deli when I was purchasing my items. By this time, I'm getting loud because I feeling harassed and racially profiled against. In the mean time I handed the other guy my receipt he looks at it and says she did buy it. The other guy is saying it's not a big deal I said yes, it is because you guys are out here asking for my receipt so It has to be a big deal! Then he tries to clean it up by saying because you took the basket. These men didn't see me take anything but a bag and walk outside with a hand-held store basket as many customers do, but because he seen me grab a bag from self-check, I'm also black and dressed down he assumed I was shoplifting and had stolen the wine that was purchased in the Deli area. I sat in my car for a minute and decided to go back in the store and talk to the manager, I explained what happened to him and he said he would talk to them and that they were hired through an outside agency. read more

This review is with regard to Safeway Stores CORPORATE's weekly sales flyer and Safeway's customer service (as in lack of). A product pictured and advertised at a sale price was in the stores' weekly flyer. I went to 4 Safeway Stores, and the advertised product was NOT stocked. I attempted to phone Safeway's Customer Service department several times at various hours and got the recorded message that they were experiencing higher then normal call volume.... so I emailed Safeway.... asking where and which store would I find the advertised item... from that point on in about 3 mails each Safeway totally stonewalled me, it was like dealing with Microsoft. They NEVER answered my questions It is my personal opinion that Safeway advertises products that they do not carry, either at all, or in most stores, and that there customer service is the worst that I have experienced from a retail business! I wound up purchasing the product elsewhere, and am further reducing the number items that I purchase at Safeway and the amount of money that I spend at Safeway Stores. read more
