I had a deeply frustrating and discriminatory experience I had at Safeway Pharmacy (570 N Shoreline Blvd, Mountain View, CA 94043) Although I have picked up prescriptions from this location before, this particular visit stood out in the worst possible way. The pharmacist on duty, Wen Yi, treated me with clear hostility and unfairness, seemingly taking advantage of my limited English proficiency. As usual, I provided my name, address, date of birth, and phone number, but Wen Yi then insisted on seeing my ID - which was an unusual request, but one I complied with. Without any clear reason, she suddenly demanded that I pronounce the name of the medication "in English," threatening to withhold it if I couldn't. I explained that I didn't know how to pronounce it in English and could only provide the Chinese name, but she continued to repeat the same demand. Throughout the interaction, I remained calm and answered all of her questions. However, her attitude and unreasonable demands felt deeply insulting and discriminatory. No other pharmacy has ever asked me to pronounce medication names in English. Wen Yi's behavior did not feel like a standard procedure - it felt like targeted bullying. Especially troubling was the fact that I witnessed her handing over medications to other customers without asking for their ID or for them to pronounce medications. The double standard was obvious. To make matters worse, she initially told me the medication would cost $458 and asked if I wanted to pay. This was confusing, as I've received this same medication at this pharmacy before and it was fully covered by insurance. I refused to pay and asked for a breakdown. Only after I was insisting did she print a receipt - and suddenly the price dropped to $102. When I asked for an explanation, she had no answer. I agreed to pay the $102 but requested confirmation that my insurance wouldn't cover it. Instead of providing clarification, she demanded my insurance card again, despite the fact that my insurance information was already in the system and had been used previously. This interaction felt deliberately misleading and unnecessarily difficult. It seemed like she was trying to overcharge me, perhaps assuming that my limited English would prevent me from reporting her behavior. I was made to feel like a criminal, simply for trying to pick up a legitimate prescription. In the end, I went to a different pharmacy, where I received the same medication without issue. It was fully covered by insurance, no ID was required, and no one asked me to pronounce medications in English. A few days later, I returned to your pharmacy (after a prescription was mistakenly sent there) and was helped by a different pharmacist, who asked only for my name and address. This confirmed that all my information, including insurance details, was already on file. That smooth experience further proves that Wen Yi's behavior was not standard policy--it was targeted and intentional. We also reported the incident to the on-site Safeway duty manager, who informed us that Wen Yi is actually the pharmacy manager. If that's true, it makes the situation even more disturbing. Is this really the level of professionalism and customer care that Safeway stands behind? Wow, I'm really surprised the reviews here are so terrible. Maybe the staff has changed in recent years? I've always had a great experience with the pharmacists here. They've been super helpful and in some instances have gone out of their way to help. Refills are usually really easy to manage either through the Safeway Pharmacy app or through their phone service. The availability of certain Rx'es here can sometimes be limited, but they will usually help you find another Safeway that has the Rx you need. read more

I love this pharmacy, the pharmacists are always so nice and accommodating. I call here all the time to get my medications switched between here and San Francisco since I travel back and forth a lot. They've been so nice to me every single time and are so pleasant on the phone and in person. Best pharmacy ever in my opinion! Thanks for everything you guys do! read more

Literally the worst pharmacy I've ever used. They give away your ordered and reserved medication to other patients as needed.. leaving you without your medication for weeks while they scramble to order more. This should be illegal read more

I came in about 15 minutes before closing for a Rx that had been called in earlier. I had been there 30 minutes before, and talked to them, but I had forgotten my insurance card. After waiting patiently there patiently after three other customers, they told me they couldn't fill my prescription because they had to close and it would take too long to look up the insurance, so they turned me way. I've never had such a ridiculous experience at a pharmacy before. The rudeness and callousness of the staff is hard to fathom. Do not trust these people with your health and safety! Avoid this pharmacy, and grocery store entirely. You will regret coming here. read more

I have a prescription that I received from my dentist that I brought here to have filled. I figured I could do some grocery shopping while they filled it, clever me I thought! Well, as you've probably guessed it, I thought wrong. Here's my list of reasonings. One... If you ever need to come here, avoid Friday evenings like you would an extended sneezed-on hand belonging to a person carrying the bubonic plague. There was a line of at least 7 people ahead of me, 4 behind me, each person taking at least 5 min at the counter at 6:40pm. I spent a good half an hour or more waiting just in line. The reasoning behind this insane wait perhaps might be due to... Two... Usually at pharmacies, they have one window to drop off prescriptions, and one window for pick-up/consultation. You would think on a busy time like Friday, both windows would be open. No. Only the pick-up/consultation one was, thus the insanity and kissing most of my good hour that evening good-bye. Anyway, Three... When I get to the counter, the sweetest young woman took my prescription and filled it out for me. Don't get me wrong, she is sweet and nice and professional and everything you'd ever hope for after waiting forever in line with an irritated little old lady muttering to herself and stabbing you with her celery. Except... I can't hear her. She's quieter than my cat when he tries to stalk my socks. I can't tell if it's because she lost her voice, of if she's really just that quiet, but with the noise that comes with a grocery store (the humming from the nearby meat fridges, the freezer doors being open and shut behind me in the frozen food aisle, and to top two guys offering free samples for a microwaveable authentic Indian meal literally right next to the pharmacy line), I just couldn't hear a word she said. It makes answering her questions really difficult, which might have added to each person's wait time. I'm young and I think I hear just fine, but I can't imagine the rough time some other people who might be more hard-of-hearing will have with her. Really, she's the sweetest and nicest, but really... Which brings me to... Four... After one window being closed, one heck-of-a-long line and wait, a pharmacist whose voice couldn't register on any frequency in my ears... I suppose I should have known better than to think I could have picked up my prescriptions right there than then. She asked me to please come back the following day, but of course, not between 12-1, and 5-6, because that's their meal break hours. And so I write this review, knowing I must return, and praying that I will not see another line like that again, but knowing this place... I probably will. Sigh. read more

Customer service is the worst at this location! But it's not the workers fault. They need help...an additional register, a second worker, process change...something...Lines are long and it takes forever to help customers. How about expanding into the useless, never used consultation room and use the other drop off station for consultation. read more

There is a lot to hate about this Safeway, the Soviet cold war era lines, the way they build obstacles of wine bottles and cartons of chips in the middle of the aisles so you can't actually push your cart around without running into anything, the crappy weeks old produce that gets stored in the alley behind the store for days at a time so the rats can dine. Still, it's a block from my house and I'd have never decided to stop patronizing this store if it weren't for the Kafka-esque pharmacy. Doctor sent an Rx electronically? Think you can show up a few hours or even a day later and it will be waiting for you? THINK AGAIN YOU RUBE! You will wait in line for 20 minutes to tell them that actually yes, you do want that filled thank you and then you will shop for thirty minutes and then you will stand in line for another twenty minutes to pick it up, or maybe to be told they are out of it and can't fill it until tomorrow at which point you will stand in line again. Talking to the mute girl at the register is so much fun, hope you can read lips. Also, getting smacked in the hip by every shopping cart that comes by because a few years back they closed off the area where people used to line up and made it into some secret sanctum where the employees hide from the torches and pitchforks of the customers means you have to stand in the main traffic aisle of the store to wait to be seen. Got a new RX? Not even new to you, just one you've never filled THERE before? Just wait until you stand in line for a while then get told you can't have your medicine because the pharmacist that you don't want to talk to anyway is at lunch! I've never been so close to physical violence with a retail employee before but I could have smacked that little mute girl with the bag she wouldn't hand me. Just left this pharmacy. It was the worst experience possible. John Fatemi is heartless. My grandmother and two uncles were victims of the Santa Rosa fires this morning. Their apartment complex was burned down. They had less than 5 minutes to get out. They didn't have anytime to grab anything. Including life saving medications. The pharmacy tech wasn't able to help us "transfer" the prescriptions from Santa Rosa. We didn't need a full month just a couple of days worth until we talk to Red Cross to help get her on her feet. John Fatemi didn't care. He showed no emotion what so ever. How can you be in the life savings field and not care? I literally has to tell him to stop being rude to my grandmother and treat her like a human, show some compassion, she just lost EVERYTHING. He only called his supervisor after my suggestion. He told me that he was instructed to call another rep and that rep they needed to talk to their supervisor in order to attempt to fill her prescriptions. It would take an hour. I left my phone number and we went to go to Wal-Mart to get basic necessity - all 3 of them were in their pajamas. We came back and mind you my Gram hasn't sleep in over 24 hours and another pharmacy tech rang us up. We didn't even notice they only gave us 3/4 of the prescriptions. Once we were checking out with our groceries we checked over the prescriptions and noticed one of the most important prescription wasn't there. I left my 79 year old grandmother at the front of the store so I can check to see what happened. I was told that prescription was "expired" and they couldn't do it that they needed to talk to her Dr. I told him hee doctor is on Santa Rosa. Haven't you heard the news. Thousands of people lost EVERYTHING. He didn't even bat an eye. He has made me lose faith in humanity. read more

Worst customer service and worst staff. They don't get what the customers ask and take 10-15 mins arguing about dates and times. Have been here multiple times with the same horrible experience. First they make you wait in the line for hours because their turnaround per customer is longer than hell. Then they spend hours on the computer doing something that perhaps no other pharmacy does as it takes them 5 mins minimum to finish. It's seriously as if they're writing a story by the way they keep typing on the keyboard. Then they make some weird excuses about missing some paperwork or card and they never have even the most basic prescriptions on stock. If they claim to get something by 6 you can never trust them to actually get something by that time. They should be shut down and the entire staff replaced. read more

By far the worst grocery store on Earth! The lines are always long no matter how many or how few shoppers there are. They continue closing down registers to ensure every register has at least 10 people in line, and they send their employees to the back to work on other stuff. I live 1 block from this safeway but usually drive 10 min to go somewhere else and come back faster. Tonight I decided to stop there for 1 item only to return empty handed when I saw the lines. Shame! They need to close down so a more decent grocery store could open in their place. read more

I moved here a year ago and thought this would be a great place that was close to my home. Boy was I wrong! The pharmacist and the assistant don't seem particularly bright. First, the pharmacist can't do math and actually told me once I should half my 0.5 mg medication (that says don't crush, split or chew) because I only needed to have a half milligram. ? That's elementary school math! It took several minutes and lots of talking to get her to understand the math. They WILL NOT call you or your Drs office if they CAN NOT fill your prescription, they don't even notify you if they CAN fill it. They are dishonest and will tell you your drs office is closed- like on a Monday at 2pm- smh. When I called my doctors office they were all laughing!! My doctor told me they were a "crappy" pharmacy due to the lies and difficulty for my physicians to work with them. I'm 45 yrs old and have NEVER had such issues with a pharmacy. Be aware and even better- go somewhere else! Would give ZERO stars!!!! read more

I wish I could give 0 stars. I have been using this pharmacy for over two years, and in the last 6mo-year things have gone downhill. The new staff is entirely incompetent. They can have long lines, and are very inefficient at helping people. This week I called in for a refill my birth control they told me it'd be ready that day at 7pm. I went to pick it up the following day, first of all they hadn't filled it. Then I find out there was an issue with my insurance lapsing (it wasn't, it turned out to be bad information from the insurance company). Why didn't they have called and let me know so I didn't wait in line for 20+ minutes to only leave with no prescription? The next day I get my insurance to fix the issue, well good old safeway is out of my birth control prescription and no other Safeways in the area have it. I'm transferring it to CVS and hoping they will have better customer service. read more

Based on my experience solely at this store #705 location, I shall never again set foot in another Safeway store, period! This store has the worst lines, customer service and lack of friendly staff I have every encountered in any retail outlet, hands-down, period! I stopped in today to purchase one item, and the lines for the few registers that were open snaked from front of the store to rear of the store, and when finally reaching the cashier for checkout service, she was the worst, most unfriendly person I have ever encountered. I will pay more for purchases at Draeger's , Whole Foods, etc., rather than ever again set foot in a Safeway. read more
