I was shopping at safeway around 11pm. When I saw a unprofessional encounter with a manager and an employee. A manager mocking an employee very loud regarding the schedule. I personally don't like to over hear people's conversations but this was just loud and the employee seemed embarrassed and upset. The problem that I have, is that there is less staff and help in the different departments, i.e. deli, meat, bakery, and of course lack of checkers. I feel the need to address that Linda Mar Safeway's employees are very hard working and underappreciated. Unless you have walked a day in their shoes during the last 2 years of pandemic, mask regulations, angry opinionated people refusing to follow mandates during a health crisis; both customers and hired contractors, fear of the unknown and long hours without gratitude for their time and dedication you have NO right to judge! Golden rule! Lead with Kindness and compassion! They are essential workers and are tired! Perhaps some acknowledgement of a job well done by customers and corporate would be great start! We all like acknowledgement for things that we do yet some people can't be nice or they believe that they are entitled to being treated politely even though you're rude! Probably one of the worse Safeways i have ever been in. Safeway as a company is already over priced, but alot of them i have been in go above and beyond in customer service. Not this location. They run thier front end terribly and the lines are always backed up. Management is very rude, and the cashiers all act like they dont know what they are doing except for a few veterans i have seen working there for years. I go out of my way to get into these employees lines even if the lines are a little longer for them sometimes. The main shopping area is kept very clean, but the mens restroom is always horrible which i dont think isngood practice in any business. The stalls are all broken and the soap / paper towels are always empty. Unfortunately it is one of the only grocery stores near me that is guaranteed to have everything i need. Since my past review, Safeway has thankfully added self-checkouts. They're not perfect, but they definitely help to cut down on the amount of time I spend in the checkout lines. I wish they'd get rid of the scales or rethink the self-checkout process to make it less touchy (especially with respect to bagging), but it's still a lot faster than going through the regular checkout lanes. I can't comment on whether the deli has improved, as I've been purchasing the pre-cut and pre-bagged meats near the front doors, which has helped to decrease the amount of time that I'm in the store. read more

Friday dinner time... one checkstand open!!??!! Obviously paying employees and customer service is not this corporations priority!

It was truly an experience visiting this store earlier this week. I picked up a few items at another grocery store but I forgot a few items so I came her with my niece. I needed to get produce and other items. Immediately, I noticed how dirty the floor was in the produce area and I attempted to find fresh produce but I was unsuccessful. I did not want to approach anyone in the product dept as they appeared very unhappy. I then proceeded to pick up a few spices. Once again I was unsuccessful as this store was out of paprika. My niece had the only success when she was able to find her favorite candy bar. Indeed 20 minutes for a candy bar. When we proceeded to the check stand to pay, we noticed the check stand lines were long. Therefore, we went to the self checker. The male employee there appeared very upset and agitated with another employee. I did not catch this male employee's name but he was middle aged and had a beard. It is rather disheartening that a store can be staffed with unprofessional individuals. read more

This is your basic Safeway located in Pacifica. The delicious smells of the chicken being made makes you hungry so come full or be ready to buy it and eat it. It's a hell of a lot better than Manor! I mainly come here for my Starbucks fix. Staff are dolls their always so friendly and they all know my drink. If I'm hungry their deli always has a wide selection with freshly made sushi. This is my local grocery store and I'm totally satisfied with their stocked goods and friendly employees. read more

I'm kind of irritated, a little jealous, and hurt that Linda Mar Safeway is so much better than my crappy Safeway just down the road in Manor. At Manor, the line at check-out is usually as long as a line for a ride at Great America. At Linda Mar there is no more than one person ahead of me. The deli at Manor sucks. The deli at Linda Mar is much better. And while Manor runs out of everything, Linda Mar is better stocked. I understand that this is a much larger store. And I hate to talk bad about the store at Manor, but it is definately the step child. But it is worth the extra five minutes driving to go to a Linda Mar for me. read more

We dropped in here to pick up some groceries. This is a small Safeway - compared to the ginormous one in Westlake. However it's one of the refurbished Safeway's so it's clean and new. Since the space is smaller, I feel that the aisles are narrower. Very hard to maneuver. A great Safeway to drop in for some last minute shopping. read more

Tourists running around at the beach for hours needed to stop in for beverage refreshment and to use the restrooms. An older Safeway, the staff were chill and the store was clean and organized. The restrooms were what one would expect for public restrooms and definitely not at the top of the priority chain for a grocery store. Nice, big parking lot! read more

Deli. DELI. Something very wrong with it. The employees obviously hate being there. Or perhaps they're miserable cuz of the miserably unhappy main lady. The one who's always closing it before she's supposed to, which the Store says is 8PM. And when you arrive at 7pm, all the hot food lights are off and you ask her if you could please get some chicken she sighs in exasperation. Really Deli Lady? For real? Then change your freaking closing time! Don't be all mad when customers want food an hour before you close. Like today. I get to deli at precisely 8:01pm and the entire hot food section is empty! Where to start, if there is a manager on site, then this person is awol. There are long lines and long waits. Not only do you have self check out to make customers do the job the employees are supposed to be doing but now I see that there are NO baggers. You want us to bag our groceries to? All the while, you have employees just mingling about. The store is dirty, people walking around with dogs in there cart, Employees talking about their tatoos rather than working, customer service hiding in there office so they don't have to deal with said customers, guess what, we know you have a 2 way mirror. Unkempt employees who can't seem to look presentable ie; a hair cut and a trim. The so called manager can't seem to pull this one off, looks dirty. I believe he is called tiger? The jokes on us though, not much we can do about it since this is where the food is. At the very least, tighten up. You all come across as very UNPROFESSIONAL. And don't get me strarted on the guy who has tatoos accross his head. How is it that he feels a need to give out 8 bags with just a couple of items in each bag. Do I ge charged for this? I gotta admit this Safeway on Linda Mar is waaaaaaay better than the one on Manor Dr. I do have to drive out 7-10 minutes to get to this Safeway, but I prefer it. I've been here about 5 times in the last 2 months and I love it! This store is bigger and has a pretty good selection of organic produce at affordable prices. They also carry a lot of the raw protein bars for health nuts like me. I'm relieved that I don't have to drive all the way to Wholefoods in Daly to get my organic items now that I know this Safeway is near by. Most of the times I've come here the staff has been friendly and helpful and I'm able to find exactly what I need. The staff are good people and work hard at ringing up and bagging our groceries and other items in good order, with good attitudes. The people here are so nice and they make you feel like your the boss (at least i do). I was debating which cookies to buy and this worker came up to me and said do you want to sample each type of cookie ? i was like "uhm no its ohkay!" But wow thanks. So nice and they have those REDBOX DvD movies $1 a day ! and they're mostly new releases, it beats the regular movie stores. And there are so many sale items ! (im lucky all my faves are on sale:) !) I'm taking one star off because i was passing by looing at these small fruit cakes an there was a lady serving doughnut samples and said "I can give you a sample if you ask your mother" i was like WTF Lady i'm bout to be 17 fck off! like seriously... Don't know what's happening to Safeway in Linda Mar!! They used to have employees roaming the isles just to help customers out, now aisles are barren not only of help but products too. They are always out of everything!! Now you can hear people searching shelves for an item and groaning or cussing because the item is out of stock. They have gone downhill in service and in stocking. But the worst is the lines!! Even though management is aware of busy times they do not ever have enough employees manning the registers! I stood in express lane one night that was a mile long, all registers with customers snaking down aisles, grumbling and angry, babies screaming... of course when I got up to register an employee scuttled up and placed a Closed sign on the belt! The line was still long behind us. Every line in the store still miles long. Another elderly man behind me And I protested and removed the sign. Eventually the clerk called the manager (who was at lunch! Even though clearly the employees were about to suffer a riot any minute) He was supposed to be off, heard him say to manager on phone 'ok yes, I'll take overtime ' Kudos to this clerk! Actually I think he was going to be attacked physically if he had shut down in the middle of a massive long line. We would have had to all go to the back of other non express lanes which were just as long. I don't think so. The checkers are incredibly slow! Just don't get it, Safeway no longer has competition from Fresh and Easy so they figure they'd let go of good service and stocking because they know locals have nowhere else to go? With all the revenue they are making they can't hire more employees???? If it wasn't in such a convenient location I would never go here and I've been a patron since the beginning of time! I'm a local since childhood! It's either shoddy slave working managers trying to save money by not hiring more employees or corporate put a hire freeze on. I think I'm going to the great grocery liquor store on the corner of Vallemar for small items from now on!! I hope others follow suit. read more

Ordered on line for 10:30 am pick up today. Checked in twice. Was told regular guy wasn't there, one poor employee doing the work. Somehow he could not estimate the jobs and strung me along til I asked him to cancel the job at 4:15. I understand that they were probably slammed by all of us trying to follow CDC advice but I can not understand where management was all day and why they left one person drowning in orders. read more

Staff was not very helpful when I asked for help to locate the item. I waited at the counter to be held at the pastry area, and to no avail. However when I white customer came up and asked a question she was immediately approached by two other employees who asked if they could help her. Employees wished other customers a good day and no employee offered me any type of welcoming or warm goodbye. I would not recommend shopping at the Safeway unless your white. read more

I have never had a problem at the Safeway I find that the customer service is amazing and they go out of their way to help us. Considering that there are a lot of long lines and a lot of customers who are not very pleasant they continue to try and help anyway they can. I watch the customers who have no patience at all and find any means to complain about some thing or another. Kudos to them for putting a smile on their face and trying to help even though they are dealing with people that are taking their aggressions out on them. Keep up the good work. read more

October 7th Life Update: The bad news is that I'm too old to 'donate' my eggs for money. The good news is that this Safeway had cheese and salsa on sale, so I'll be eating nachos for dinner all week long. You win some, you lose some. I come here because it's convenient to grab snacks at before heading across the street to Pacifica State Beach. Word to the wise: If you plan on heading to the beach after a snack stop here, allow me to recommend not getting any dairy products as they congeal rather quickly in the sun (far quicker a rate than is humanly possible to eat- believe me, we tried with a vengeance) and congeal even further (or at least that's what it feels like) in your stomach. I really can't think of many things less attractive than two bikini clad ladies in 90-degree heat on the beach with the slow but certain onset of food poisoning... believe me, I'm now the area's foremost expert on this subject. Things you should get while at this Safeway: 1. Tortilla chips 2. Salsa 3. BBQ Quinoa Chips 4. Beverages such at lightly flavored water or pressed juice... we opted for the fake super discounted kind of juice that retails for $2.59 instead of $10.79, which is just as good if you don't know any better and will probably never be able to afford an $11 12oz juice. Things you should expect to encounter while at this Safeway: 1. People of Walmart 2. Lots of tribal and barbed wire tattoos (not specific to any gender) 3. Screaming children. So so so many of these. 4. Those typical wrap-around-the-store Safeway lines that take forever and a day 5. Maybe even a young gentleman in line who's buying nothing but a tiny bag of Skittles while asking you where the nearest bar is, who will then find you on the beach 3 hours later only now he has no shirt on and there's a necklace around his neck that is made of a leather strap and an actual squirrel's pelvic bone and he wants to know if you want to come see him play a show tonight. Um.....there was like no, organic, bulk wall of nuts and seeds for me to buy and snack on at the beach all day. I had to buy raw almonds in the baking aisle and the total cost was somewhere in the vicinity of $12K. There was also no, like, organic aisle with healthy cardboard flavored chips and shit on it. This Safeway doesn't carry everything I want, but it's a remodeled pretty standard store with easy parking and a cheap gas station across the street. Here is what went down today..... Me pushing cart through wide aisles, D-bag customer: Excuse me! Can you move? Me: Oh, sure! D-bag customer who is unwilling to change his trajectory in any way to every other customer: Can you move? Cheery Sweater: No. D-bag: I told you to push your cart through! Cheery Sweater: I told you 'no.' I unecessarily moved my cart a million times while we were shopping and I'm not going to move now.' This review is strictly for their deli, the rest of the store is cool, with interesting and mostly friendly employees whom I see often. So this whole week I've tried calling in a Large food platter order for a big party. Every time I called, NOBODY would answer. I'd be kicked over to the general customer service. I've tried calling 5 times, 3 different days this week... At reasonably slow times of the day, ya know, after lunch rush, before off work rush... No holidays. My first calls nobody answered... One call, I was kicked over to CS, I said, "look, I just need a deli person to take down a platter order for a party." So she sent my call back to the deli, only for me to be ignored and then kicked over again to the CS lady. Who at that point was like, "sorry, don't know why they aren't picking up." I tried to justify it by laughing it off and thinking they must be packed (on a weekday at 10am...) And explained I'd just try another time. So the following day I called again... Ignored.... Kicked over to CS... This time I got frustrated. I just need a deli person for 5 minutes, to literally take a food order for a party I'm having next week... The guy tells me, "I'll make sure somebody picks up." But then he hangs up on me. At first I'm like, ok, probably an accident... So I call again.. NOBODY ANSWERS. I was super pissed. I still am. I was shocked too, because there's 2 women that work the deli there who are AWESOME. But all the others clearly hate their lives and have zero customer service skills. Suffice to say, I ended up ordering hella food somewhere else for this damn party... And I'll still shop at this place, unfortunately they killed off the other store :( But good lawd, if you are planning a party and need catered platter foods... Avoid this place.
