The Pacifica Safeway is a place I go out of convenience, not because I actually want to shop here. The lower prices, discounts, and big parking lot are really the only reasons I keep ending up back at this location. Inside, the store feels outdated and in serious need of a refresh. There are no self-checkout lanes, and instead everyone waits in a single line to be called to the next available register. It's an unorthodox system that technically works, but it's pretty frustrating when you only have a couple items. The understaffing is noticeable. I once had to check in at the customer service desk to retrieve a lost wallet (luckily a cashier had found it and held onto it). Even then, I waited about 20 minutes before anyone came by to help. When they finally did, they were kind and returned everything to me immediately- but the delay really highlighted how short-handed this store is on a regular basis. The cashiers themselves are consistently kind and doing their best, but it's clear they're stretched thin. The whole store feels like it's running behind what a modern grocery store should be. This Safeway could really benefit from a major facelift and, at minimum, a few self-checkout stations. Until then, it's mainly a place I stop because it's convenient- not because it's a good shopping experience. read more

What in the world are you thinking creating a one-line checkout system that makes no sense. Folks with visual impairments and hearing impairments should file complaints against you. This also creates a safety hazard with having everyone congregate in one line stretching over to the deli. I can't imagine being an a wheelchair or elderly and having to squeeze into some weird unsafe line with no room for my mobility devices. Then first checkout lane next to the TV is lane "2" the second lane away from the TV is "lane 1". Can you count? Stop trying to be an airport or a TJ Maxx. Are you all insane? The most inefficient, handicap inaccessible, confusing system I have seen, and I travel all over the country. Don't get me started on how rude most of your employees are. This has got to be one of the worst Safeways I've been to in awhile. At 3 pm on a Saturday only 2 checkout stands open with a line of over 10 people. The store itself is tiny and a lot of the shelves in front of aisles are cramped. They don't have a designated chip aisle so all the chips are crammed on shelves in front or back of aisles. Customer service is hit or miss depending on cashier. Last time, got charged for a bag though didn't ask for one. No self checkout lanes either. At least there's a lot of parking. read more

Not all Safeways are created equal, especially if you live in San Francisco. We choose to shop in Westlake or Pacifica to find an increased selection of products, whether it be better produce or meat. We also come here often when we have a beach day. It's easy to get all our beach picnic supplies here like beverages, snacks, sandwiches and sushi. The sushi department, located in the deli section - will often make simple special rolls for us. My BF's daughter is kinda picky about her sushi rolls and they will make her special combo that she loves. The bakery department makes pretty little cakes, we picked one up for my daughter's 2nd birthday which was a sparkly little narwal. Super cute and wasn't even a special order. read more

Come here often as a Pacifica resident and each time I become more & more disappointed. The customer service at the deli counter is poor and I've witnessed on more than one occasions customers being told by deli employees that there is no employee working who knows how to make the deli sandwiches and turning the customer away. Also, the line system at times is frustrating. They make everyone like up in one huge line and there's often only 1 or 2 registers open. To top that off, 1 of 2 of those lines is a 15 items or less counter and I've had the cashiers tell me to get back in line and let someone with less items come first - I mean, what? There's only 2 lines open! There's some major logistical improvements needed in the store. read more

I go to this Safeway location often because of convenience only 1/2 miles from my house Their staff is rude especially their cashier Edna When I went today as I was standing in line waiting for the next available cashier, another customer, cut me off. Edna looked right at me and saw the other customer cut me off and instead of telling that customer to wait her turn, she let the customer cut in line and waved me over after. As I proceeded to tell the other customer I was next in line, Edna actually yelled at me claiming she didn't see me which is a bold faced lie- she looked right at me before the other customer cut in front of me. Every time I have experienced Edna it seems like she doesn't want to be there and comes off as rude. read more

Workers are nice, but they need to figure out their line situation. There is a TV monitor that shows which Cashier is next, and everyone in that line is supposed to stand next to that TV monitor, then go to the next available cashier when the TV monitor prompts them to. But apparently that's still confusing to costumers because they tend to go to the cashier cutting the entire line who is waiting next to the TV monitor like they're supposed to. I've had to explain to customers that they're cutting the line and I've even been in an argument with customers who don't understand the process. Maybe there should be markings on the floor or signs above telling these "confused" customers where to line up. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has had gotten into issues about the line. read more

Unfortunately, this particular Safeway is rough in customer service and selection. Certainly not the fault of the employees, as they are clearly understaffed quite often. The checkout line is a different layout than that of other stores; the expectation is that you get in one line and then wait for the number on the screen to tell you which checkout stand to go to (like at Marshalls, LOL)... However, there is no signage to indicate this and it is not intuitive for all shoppers. Every time I come here, someone is confused about how the line works and an employee gets snippy at them. It would be so simple to just put signs up to let people know how the lines work here. Simplicity and efficiency is severely lacking here. I certainly don't come here for full grocery checklist shopping, just stop in when I'm in the area and just need one or two items. .46 lbs of cooked and frozen king crab. We've bought some here before and no issues. This time even before I unwrapped the crab, I could smell fishiness. It was bad. If you look closely or zoom into the picture you could see that there was hardly any meat and appeared dry and discolored. Despite this, I placed on a sheet with butter to reheat in the oven. Hoping it'd miraculously change. It didn't. Ended up tossing this out. Safeway should be more conscientious with their "fresh" seafood. read more

I asked for 5 apple croissants,the young man working there asked me 1) if I was stocking up on them. 2) was not happy when I asked him to warm them up, 3) I asked for a grande vanilla latte no form and out milk. He served me a plain latte and instead bagging each apple croissant separately he asked ime if it wad okay to put two in each bag. I generally like, though not impressed with, the Pacifica Safeway located at 12 Manor Plaza. But in this Coronavirus era Safeway on the whole has lagged implementation of measures and processes for customer protection. Used Starbucks cups left randomly about the store is why the inconsiderate sub-population among the coffee drinking crowd do not deserve convenient coffee. No human wants to touch your #Starbucks #Coronavirus #Cups because you did not immediately exit the store, and were too lazy to properly dispose of your used cup. I recommend all Starbucks located in all Safeway locations, and any coffee stand or immediate consumption item counter in all supermarkets, be closed for the duration of the COVID-19 era in order to protect the health of the other customers and store employees. Safeway, parent company Albertsons, and Starbucks, this is your opportunity for improvement ahead for the local San Mateo County of Health department ordering you to shut done the in-store locations. I have been to many Safeways in my time. This is by far the worst in existence. The checkers are rude. There is a huge line most of the time. The line was 20-30 people deep with only two check stands open. There seems to be zero security as a guy just filled his pockets and walked out the door with nobody noticing anything. People cutting in line. Absolutely the worst Safeway experience I have ever had. Ambiance is that of a homeless tent city without any polite people. I accidentally dropped my tofu and they just looked at me. Didn't offer anything. I could of bought a box of tofu at Costco for only a buck or two more. This one experience will keep me out of all Safeways for quite awhile. Terrible x 1000. Is that kiloterrible. Either way this place is a joke and will lose Safeway customers. I don't usually shop at Safeway but this one is super convenient to walk to from my home. Went the other night to get ingredients for lasagna for 16 people. Though not all organic, they had everything I was looking for (except pine nuts) and even a product I hadn't seen before- oven ready lasagna noodles. Everyone was happy with how the lasagna tasted! I wish I could give it negative stars. Safeway is never really very good but this one is really bad. I rarely go, but I wanted to get something that they would have that the other markets do not and the lines were 10 or 12 people deep. Only one cashier open. The cashiers were extremely rude today. The people on the floor were great, but the cashiers made a point to take their time be extremely slow I had one thing. One of the cashiers had her light on and wasn't even accepting customers she had very short hair. Her lane was all the way to the left. Wow. Everyone's a critic. I have had nothing but positive experiences every time I stop at this Safeway going to the beach or my friends house all the time. The shelves are constantly stocked, the store is clean, and the customer service is above and beyond. I had a situation at the Safeway in Linda Mar that was less than stellar; Customer Service Mike and Alyssa were absolutely no help, rude and didn't care about solving the issue. I chalked it up to Alyssa being on some sort of power trip. I took my product to Safeway Pacific Manor and Michelle provided me with amazing customer service. Even though the store DID NOT carry the product I was exchanging, she took back anyway and said, "there is always a solution." I am a local here in the manor area. I shop at this Safeway every time, unlike the Safeway up the hill this Safeway is way smaller. Before covid when the lines were at the register's they would get in the way the different aisles. I think when they changed the line to a more DMV stile line it helped with the foot traffic in each separate aisle. read more

Really nice people working at the checkouts. This is a small neighborhood store, so the selection is a bit limited but it is perfect for a stop on the way home from work. Unfortunately the beer section is always halfway empty. I wish I could buy here instead of going into the more crowded areas around Serramonte. Specifically I mostly drink ciders, and this store does sell some of the brands I like but most of the time it's just an empty space and a price tag, with none in stock. read more

The Safeway at 12 Manor is the absolute worst Safeway I have ever been to. It doesn't matter what time I go, the aisles are being stocked and blocked. I live on the same block as this place and refuse to patronize it anymore. This place is either racist or just straight up rude. I've been treated rudely too many times. First during Thanksgiving, I went to go pick up a turkey there. While waiting in line to pay with my order, some employee rolling a stock cart singled me out and yelled "HAVE YOU PAID FOR THAT?!" There were 5 people in line and he singled me out. I literally had cash in my hand waiting to pay. Then today I went in to use the ATM. It was non-functioning for the second time in a row, so I tried to report it to an employee. He literally literally watched me as I talked and then walked away silently. Someone please tell me why this establishment is 40° when it's 45° outside? It was so cold that I had to run and find my groceries so I can hurry up and be warmer outside. Even the cashiers complained about how cold it was and said that they wish they could say something but they are afraid that their boss would get mad. I explained that the working conditions were unacceptable. They wore a large jacket and said that it's not that the heater is broken, it's just that they keep the temperature low. True story: I got my "Maverick" badge for checking into this Safeway. That's the badge you earn for bucking danger to check into low-rated places. I like this little Safeway. Parking is easy, the lines are manageable on the weekends when I'm there, and there are always numerous employees scattered throughout the store stocking the cases and shelves. I think the low stress factor might be what draws me in; it's practically relaxing compared to locations like Church Street or 16th and Bryant, where you have to fight for parking and sometimes even for carts, then maneuver your way around hordes of rude shoppers. I can't always find exactly what I need at this Safeway because it's not as comprehensively stocked as a full-sized market; hence, this is not where I go for my "big shopping." However, the convenience and the afore-mentioned low-stress setting make it almost a pleasure to shop, to the extent that I've sometimes driven past a couple of other Safeways in favor of this one. The remodel is coming! The remodel is coming! OK... its already here. They are actually remodeling the place. From a convenience standpoint, its a royal pain in the @ss! For Gomer's Sake, could they possibly make the store any less convenient? ;) (I formally apologize for the emoticon... But it stays.) Seriously though, I'm very happy for this poor neglected piece of real estate. As long as they start rotating product and fix the abysmal lines that often plague the store, I think we'll all be happy and will get along just famously. Lastly, for any regular in the store...
