Wow lived here 15 years and Safeway keeps getting worse and worse two check stands open at 8:30 at night with lines going around the corner and down the side of the store thxs read more

Had not shopped in a Safeway in a number of years. I am used to much smaller coop stores so I admit was a bit overwhelmed with the size and options. It was nice to see the availability of some local items to jump start our island vacation. A couple of things that might be considered for improvement is the front of the store. The end caps are too close to the checkout area making it very hard to navigate through the front of the store. In addition, there needed to be a couple more checkout folks to help people get through. Did decide to go to Foodland after this first experience on our next grocery run. read more

Good deals for Maui groceries. Clean store and great customer service. Prices on cheese and meats pretty decent for the islands. Nice bakery section too. Only problem was the parking lot gets packed on weekends. read more

This Safeway is the place to pick up on supplies if staying in the Lahaina resort area. Get your water, produce, bread, breakfast items, etc... All extremely necessary before heading out for your trip to the Haleakala Volcano or your drive to Hana read more

Ug, this place gives me an anxiety. Long lines, quite possibly the highest prices of any Safeway on earth, and I ain't feeling the aloha from the employees. Whenever I can I head to Foodland or the Star Market in Honokowai (about 4 miles north of town). PS - Foodland has at least 3 varieties of poke. I like the wasabi one. read more

Safeway - Grocery Near Me - Lahaina, Hawaii

This is THE grocery store for mostly everyone who is staying in the Kaanapali area. It can get pretty busy in the evening and on the weekends when everyone is just arriving for the week. Items are slightly more expensive than on the main land but they have everything that you are looking for. Definitely come here to stock up your condo! read more

No no no. There is no way I will pick Safeway over Walmart from now on. The difference in price is stupid. they asked if I had a Randall's card, I did and the price wasn't even reduced. Cashier was nice but I won't go back. No thanks read more

How can Maui have an amazing 24-hour grocery store and all we get in New York are bodegas and Whole Foods? Safeway is great if you're staying in a condo. There's even a trolley from Kaanapali to Lahaina if you don't have a car. Great selections and nice produce. Don't forget that your Vons club works here too. read more

Horrible customer service, had to wait in line for my food for almost 15 min when the sign clearly states three min or less or you get your sandwich for free. When I asked to get it for free because of the time the women at the register looked at me like I was crazy for asking even though they still have the sign up. In the end Safeway is still a great place where you can get a lot of food for relatively cheap so if you're going here to get groceries I highly suggest it just don't get their sandwiches. read more

Safeway - Safeway - Grocery Near Me - Lahaina, Hawaii

Stayed at a condo near here on a recent trip to Maui. Parking is difficult but the worst part of this place is the lines! OMG crazy long no matter what time of day it is. And they frequently close the express lanes so if you are just picking up a few items beware, you are going to have to line up behind the family of 6 who are stocking up for their entire trip. Safeway, Please hire more checkers!!!!!!!!!! read more

My eyes kind of bugged out a bit when I saw how much everything was going to cost on Maui, but shopping at Safeway made things a bit more reasonable. They had prepared meals, like sushi, rotisserie chickens, etc. and it was much more reasonable than eating out every night. And they did have some touristy-type sundries like sunscreen, disposable cameras, etc. Worth a trip if you need to stock up, but still a bit pricey compared to the mainland. read more

Half the lettuce on the shelf was expired, and half of the produce section was empty. The was trash on the floor, and employees were just ignoring it. When I went to the meat department, again it was half empty and what was there just didn't look good. Browning beef and chicken with lots of liquid in the packaging. Foodland was way better. read more

Safeway's Safeway no matter where you are; this locale is stocked with most everything and is a little more expensive than Foodland (close by). Still, we did hit up this store several times when we were there. Bear in mind...milk & beef are SUPER expensive here (almost $8 for a gallon of milk). Also, produce is steep. They only had organic green onions, which were pricy. Anyway, overall it's good, but expensive. read more

OMG why is everything so expensive?! Nonetheless, this is a great place to go to if you need to stock up on some food items in an attempt to save money from constantly eating out in Maui. It has pretty much most of the items you'll need if you're planning on staying in the area for more than a weekend. read more

Good place to stock up for a week (assuming you aren't here for a month or with a large group that would justify a trip to Costco). The guy at the fish counter was getting annoyed with me wanting small portions of the different poke salads. Then I asked him what he recommended to grill and his face lit up. Got me a nice piece of ahi. "That just came in a few hours ago. I cut it myself." Nice. The tsunami poke was really good. The local beer costs 2x as much as Corona. Friendly checker. read more

I have to tell you that the floral department in this location at The Cannery Mall is the bomb! Noi saved the day with a last-minute order for an orchid haiku and flower bouquet! She was so helpful and was very informational on what would work best and she solved our emergency issue by professionally and delicately making me the perfect Arrangements that I needed! I want to thank her so much for taking our last minute request and without hesitation, getting right on to what we needed! I highly recommend this floral department for any special needs you may have as they have a great selection of flowers and their prices are by far less than what you would pay when ordering from a flower shop yet the quality is the same as if you had ordered straight from a flower shop! Thank you Noi! You are a true gem! read more

I don't mind lines. I don't mind slow checkers. However, overpricing and moldy produce is a bit problem for me. In 4 days, I've shopped 4 grocery stores. As far as proximity, Foodland produce looks far more presentable and also the stocking of their shelves. Safeway looked like post-zombie apocalypse... Moldy Maui Onions and half empty shelves. The same things I bought for $4-5, were $8-9 in Safeway.... Drive a little more and go to Foodland. Much happier with that experience! read more

Nothing like having such limited options. Terribly slow, slow, service . We only have Grocery stores in Lahaina. Both are so ridiculously expensive. What do you get for paying top dollar. NOTHING. Long wait times, no cashiers. An extremely poor design. Isles so narrow you can't get through them. Always products stacked in the aisles so you can't get to the products behind them. No room to even wait to pay because the line to the register is so backed up, other shoppers can't get through to the next Isle. No one to bag your high priced groceries, and finally when your all done with the cart you perused the parking lot to find, there is NO place to put your empty cart!!! Same on you Safeway for gouging consumers and offering no service. This store is a disgrace to the chain!! read more

They always have horrible long lines! I don't like this store and try to avoid it because it takes 20 min to check out every single time!!!!

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!! Their cashiers are miserable and it shows! My latest experience consisted of the cashier literally throwing my items in one bag. Meat on top of body wash and hair spray, avocado at the bottom of the bag. DO NOT SHOP HERE read more

No Service, No motivation, No clue, Unfriendly! I stayed in a nearby hotel where I was advised to go to the Safeway customer service desk for buying international post stamps. I went there and waited in front of the CS desk for appr. 10 minutes, but no staff showed up to assist me. Some walked by and saw me, but no attempt to assist me. After 15 minutes I approached some staff, who than told me I will get stamps at the check-out, so I got in line. After another 10 minutes of standing in line, the cashier said they do not have stamps at the check-out, but at the customer service desk?!?!?!?! Well, back there after another 10 minutes an unfriendly staff asked me what I would like just to advise me, they have only local stamps and that she had no idea of what I would need for international mail. After all, I spend 30 - 40 minutes in that Safeway and left without a single stamp! What a waste of time!!! read more

I like the selection of meat and produce better at Foodland, but admittedly Safeway has better parking and most importantly they are open 24 HOURS. Nothing else in Lahaina is. They do take affiliated cards from Von's. If you need some chips, some tequila, and some salsa, this is the place. read more

This Safeway is under construction and as such, hard to get in and out and it's hard to find items. We did not find the selection good, nor the quality of the produce good. We had better luck at the Times and Foodland. read more

Same as any old Safeway, but definitely a great stop for those looking to not spend a million dollars on sub-par lunch food. I got a great turkey/avo/cheddar sandwich for 5.99. Really lovely deli staff! read more

Safeway is know to have insect on their meat....but common, not on the front display at least. A shame read more

Safeway - Fresh FLY ahi tuna steak...lol - Grocery Near Me - Lahaina, Hawaii

See all

Thank the lord there was the super convenience of Safeway! We pulled right in before checking into our hotel. We stocked up with water, beer and a few snacks. The deli was sketchy and the bakery had flies inside their pastry cases..yuck!! read more

DO NOT GO HERE! The service, product quality, etc. all suffer greatly compared to the grocery store that is literally just on the other side of the major road. I'm okay with things being older and stuff, but the produce selection was not good, the service we received was not good, and even several of the items we did buy were discovered (after the fact) to have already passed the expiration date. Add to this the fact that the other store had NONE of these problems and very similar pricing? Like I said, don't waste your time with Safeway here. read more

This Safeway just sucks. As do most Safeway's. But when you have to pay Maui prices it is so much more noticeable how much it sucks. Long check out lines, the store is a mess and the selections is very mediocre. Just avoid it and go across the street to Foodland. read more

Sandwich counter after we waited in line for about 10 minutes, we both wanted to order hot sandwich but women said they can't serve hot sandwiches because the oven is broken, PLEASE make a note so we don't have to wait for a long time, because we have to catch a whale watching event, even we started early today!!!. Very stressful. read more

Must be avoided at all costs!!!! Long long lines, only two registers open, unfriendly service, wow Maui turns unfriendly in a hurry!!

Good place to get your basic produce, snacks, etc that can be stored in the fridge. I was just alittle disappointed that there weren't any mixed fruit or vegetable bowls or packs. What's even more nice is that this place is opened 24 hours a day! read more

It's just Safeway, and an expensive one at that. But if you have a condo with a kitchen, this is a good place to stock up on food for relatively reasonable prices considering. read more

The staff here is grumpy and distant. I approached the seafood section intending to inquire about their ahi poke selections (spicy ahi poke, ahi poke, and ahi shoyu poke), the guy behind encounter was really unfriendly and he did not give me a chance to ask a question before forcing me to pick one. I picked ahi poke, ahi is fresh and it is well seasoned. The cashier did not say one word to us, even when we greeted him. WOW!! They sure know how to make customers feel unwanted. read more

Execllent grocery store for all of your needs. 24 hours!! Can get a little busy so go during odd hours.

I found this store VERY cramped and hard to find things in. I thought that they would have done some remodeling or improvements since my last time on Maui but nope.. Safeway is cheaper than Lahaina Farms and Times but the quality is not at Safeway. Hit up Safeway for the basics and go to the others or Whole Foods for your fresh stuff.. read more

Loved it! Had everything we needed. We should have come here originally. Check out my review of Foodland Supermarket and you will see what I mean. Clean and produce was so much better than other places. read more

We were just visiting. Pice are extra high. I think each state you travel you will see a Safeway store where ever you go. I have the store where I lived. Nothing special the store anyway!! read more

We ordered a smash cake here for my Nieces 1st Birthday. I was very impressed with the quality and the price. When we called other bakeries they wanted $35-$100. The bakery here made a 5" double layer with whip cream and strawberries for $10. They even did a beautiful plumeria lei decoration on it. For the little bit I tried, it was yummy. Just don't let it sit in the sun for long. The whip cream frosting was very soft. read more

Emily M wrote in her review, "It's just Safeway, and an expensive one at that. But if you have a condo with a kitchen, this is a good place to stock up on food for relatively reasonable prices considering." That is the problem. It's just Safeway and expensive besides. If you (a) arrive at the Kihuli airport, (b) travel to the Lahaina coast by rental car, and (c) have a kitchen in your condo or vacation rental, stock up on necessities and the great fish selection at COSTCO before you are forced to deal with the Lahaina Safeway. read more

Keep in mind, if you're visiting Maui for the first time, that everything here is more expensive because it has to be imported. That being said, you can't beat the selection here for pretty much anything that you're looking for. Especially of you want some of your home favorites, chances are, Safeway has it. We always make this one of our first stops when we land here and stock up for the rest of our stay. Much cheaper than eating out for every meal. read more
