We went here to stock up on some lunch stuff while visiting Maui. We knew the prices would be higher, we expected that. We picked up some fresh sliced meat from the deli, and the lady that waited on us was not friendly at all. Honestly, I don't even think she said thank you. When we were ready to check out, I was piling my groceries onto the belt and asking the cashier if she could swipe a Safeway card for me. Her response? Are you getting those? (referring to the items still in my cart). Why yes, I am, but I'm wondering if you can swipe a card for me? Her response? No, you have to fill out an application. Seriously?? WTF. So I continue to put my groceries on the belt and she hands me an application. I start filling it out and when done, try to hand it to her. She's too busy on the phone to notice me, her customer, standing in her line. Turns out, she was helping the customer behind me. Well, isn't that nice? Wish I could have had the same courtesy. As we're leaving, my husband asks if I got my Safeway card. My reply (which was loud enough for Ms. Rude Cashier to hear) was, I sure did, so I can SHRED it when I get home!!!! I would never go back into that store for anything... even if it was on sale with the stupid Safeway card! read more

Great place to stock up on groceries for the week. Prices are more expensive than on the mainland, but they stock everything you need.

Well let's just say this isn't your mother's Safeway....LOL. The Safeway stores over here in the states have great deals.....special offers for loyal customers....and even points you can earn to save on your gas. This Safeway is more like....no great deals.....everything is extremely expensive.....LOYALTY to customers......forget about ittttttttt.....and the only thing you will earn when you shop here is a headache...LOL. Now don't get me wrong if you need something in a pinch they will have it....but you will pay for it.....no doubt about that. The fact that it is open 24 hours is probably why there have not been worst reviews......because after all it is nice to have a store to go to if your craving that late night snack. Eat, Drink, and be Merry my Friends!!!! read more

Recommended supermarket by our resort staff. It is same level as our Waldbaums or Stop N Shop in the East Coast. Find the place very crowded when we visited on our first day of our vacation aside from it's parking lot was so congested. It is located in a shopping center and people/tourists tend to enjoy each retail store in the establishment. Groceries prices are higher comparing to NY supermarkets standard. Sticker shock experience is understable, there is a need to add extra cents for each item that being shipped to the mainland, and from mainland to these island. A long wait in the registers. No fast lane or self serve line visible. During our entire stay, after that first shopping experience, we decided that it is more reasonable just to eat outside especially to a local food place. Personnel were very pleasant though. Or is it a general Hawaian people persona? read more

So many ono choices of Poki. I loved the spicy choices too. I got some tubs and went to kau kau at the beach. Try da wasabi one or spicy one. read more

We like shopping at the Safeway. They have a good variety of food fruits and flowers. The isles are a little narrow and it is a little outdated but it is clean and the staff is friendly. read more

Thank goodness a market that we have on the mainland. When it not, you either have to sign up for their cards for discount or the place is just pricey. This market pretty much has everything that we could want, but just a bit more expensive. At lease the safeway card saved us a bit of money. But, its Hawaii, you have to expect to spend a bunch for stuff since it all had to get here too. The fruits that are grown here are considerably cheaper than home and a hundred times more fresh and tasty than home as well. The selection is great, typical safeway, except there is more Hawaiian stuff here to choose from. If you need anything and are on the west side of the island, chances are you will come here and not be disappointed. read more

On vacation in Maui. The worst Safeway we have ever shopped at. And we shop at Safeway all the time back home in California. Just open a loaf of Hawaiian bread, nats flew out of the package once we pulled out a piece of bread. Never saw anything like it. However, we should have known once we saw old meat sitting in the meat display counter. Spoiled by all accounts. A read more

I really good grocery store. My sister stopped in every other day to get Sushi. It is brought in fresh daily and it $6.50 for 16 pieces. Which is less than I pay here in Seattle. The store itself is very clean the staff is helpful. read more

Friendly staff, especially in the bakery and floral departments!!

Certainly not cheap, but a full supermarket with everything you'd need. My advice is shop based upon what's on sale instead of going in looking for very specific things. Poke at the seafood counter was awesome. read more

Thank goodness for the existence of this joint. I found myself thinking, over and over on the 3 trips we made here on vacation: "They could really lay this all out more conveniently." I suppose it's a contrast of goals between making it tourist-friendly and local-friendly. Almost wish they had an aisle called "travel size" where we could pay (or even have the option to over pay!) for more modestly sized sundries for the week. Case in point: My son loves syrup. But even HE could only consume down to Mrs. Butterworth's shoulders over the course of our week stay. Nothing like pouring 5 dollars of syrup down the drain on leaving day! Not angry... just... think there's room for innovation there. read more

Stopped by here a couple of times during our stay in Lahaina. Not a big fan of Safeway in the first place, and the prices here were higher (though expected) than on the mainland, which didn't add to the experience. However, the lady in the flowers department was excellent and extremely friendly! Five stars for her! read more

Aisles maybe a tad closer than other Safeway's but you can't beat the prices and selection. Very popular for locals and tourists alike. Highly recommend shop early in the day to avoid the crowds. read more

If I could give a no star review I would, the employees are extremely rude I will be taking my service else where, we ordered sandwiches with was supposed to be 15 dollars and the lady told us it came out to 50, so said were wrong and not her, we were here for 50 minutes arguing read more

Staying at the Sheraton Maui, I gave the following ratings to Safeway: 1. Location = 5 stars 2. Availability = 5 stars 3. Price = 3 stars I enjoyed the fact that we could grab all our food supplies from here at a resaonable price compared to eating out. read more

Great prepared food! Great deals on food. Get the Safeway card. We saved so much money on drinks and food. Highly recommend Safeway if you're trying to stick to budget while on vacation in Maui. Friendly staff. Great overall. read more

This review is based on experience I had with Johnny in the seafood market. We came looking to try some good poke for the first time and were referred here by a local. We told Johnny we were new and from Texas and he was extremely friendly and helped us to get a good idea which Poke to eat. Try it folks its amazing and no fish smell/punget taste. Thank you Johnny we are so sorry we waited until our last day to do this and when we go back we will see you sooner! Oh and try the smoked marlin as well read more

Newly remodeled and expanded store Nov 2018. Extremely nice for Maui or mainland. Let's hope they can keep up the produce quality and store select after the newness wears off. They finally got it right read more

If you feel like being cheated, shop here! We came to Maui for a 10 day visit and went to Safeway for our groceries and liquor for the week. All of our groceries made it to the car, except for the bag containing our alcohol. First, the checker said he made an error ringing our alcohol up, then he went to another checker, spoke to her in another language and she came over to help bag our bottles. Somehow in her bagging, our bottles "disappeared" - When I went back the next day to ask about our missing groceries, the manager just motioned to go get them and tell a checker what I had purchased. Amazingly, 2 other people were standing behind me with check out receipts in hand with the same problem!!! Beware of their "switch and change'' tactic. The store manager neither accepted blame or apologized.!!! Very strange! read more

Richard in the fish department is wonderful! I was really craving some fresh ahi tuna. Unfortunately all of the ahi tuna is made with soy sauce. Since I have celiacs and cannot have foods that contain gluten (soy sauce) I was a little discouraged. Without batting an eye, he offered to make me some fresh ahi tuna. It took him about 5-7 minutes to chop the ahi fresh, add the spices and siracha. It was some of the BEST ahi I ever had and I was happy to know it was gluten free. He went above and beyond. Thank you Richard! read more

Poor customer service. Prices not too competitive. Nicest people are distributors stocking the shelves. I am a loyal Safeway customer and I was very disappointed with my shopping experience here. read more

This place sucks. Expensive, rude employees poor quality. Frozen food had melted other frozen food on it. Every one there was angry. Isles were so little you could not fit two carts by each other. The checker was the nicest person there. If not for her we would have left. read more

Although the store looks nice and inviting, the staff is so rude! Well, most of them. I had to ask for a new cashier to help me because the one I had was so absolutely rude, for no reason. He probably thought I was a visitor. I've lived here for over 38 years and have always shopped here. But I have second thoughts now. The manager (I think he's been there for a very long time) is so rude too. Don't ask him where to locate an item because he'll just point and turn his back on you. Why he still works there is a huge mystery to me. The cashier that came to help me was so nice and apologetic. She would be the only reason I would shop here again! read more

The prices here are horrid! I get that transport raises the prices of groceries to the island, but this place is geared towards putting a hole in your pocket. Prices are higher than Whole Foods in LA and NYC. For example fruit is mostly by the pound...so if I got three mangos it would be $15. Milk is $9, a 24 pack of Dasani water is $9 and I'll just leave it at that. Safeway is known as a pretty ghetto supermarket where I'm from, so this place is just astronomically built to blow your mind. You can get a number of things that aren't produce at the Walgreens across the street. read more

WOW...!!!.....we are frequent visitors to Maui. The new Safeway/Lahaina side is a super super store.......finally fresh sushi, 20 pokes (!!), the sparkling and fine wine section is first class, floral A+.......they should be very proud read more

The rudest employee ever: ERWIN. We are from out of state & needed to return something. There was no one at the customer service desk. After standing there several minutes & no one acknowledging us, I went to an employee watching the uscan and asked if they could call someone to help us. That lady called over the announcement system twice for someone to come to customer service. Nothing. Then on her own another cashier called for customer service. Erwin came over obviously annoyed and very very rudely informed us we could have gone to a register. So if that is how you prefer it be handled how about a sign to let people know? Or better yet, just staff the customer service desk!!!! Erwin was so incredibly rude I had to walk out & let my husband handle it. 2 more seconds and I would have been over that counter snatching out his scraggly ass ponytail. RUDE RUDE RUDE. This kind of behavior from an employee is beyond unacceptable and if he worked for me he would be out of a job. read more

Old, small, overcrowded and understaffed. Like shopping at Salvation Army compared to shopping at Whole Foods. After going to the new and Maui Lani Safeway, it makes me mad that West Maui Residents are subjected to the dump of a Safeway in Lahaina.. read more

Terrible customer service at the floral/ balloon shop. I went to get some balloons and this nice lady was helping another customer and another lady was doing something. She just looked at me and ignored. The flower lady noticed and asked me what i was looking for. So I said I need to get some balloons. And she said " she can help you. " so I went to the other lady who ignored me earlier. She was very rude to me. She asked what I wanted and I answered and no reply, she just stared at me didn't say anything. I wasn't sure if she heard me so I said it again and I guess she heard me the first time , she just looked at me again. And that was it. The floral lady told me it's gonna take about 10 minutes. That lady was nice but this one was horrible. She didn't say "hi" or "thank you". I don't know what kind of training she got. But she has absolutely NO good customer service skills. If she doesn't like her job, she should quit and get a different job, not customer service job please. These people make customers feel very uncomfortable and unsatisfied. I even thought " did I do something to upset her?" Any customers shouldn't feel this way. read more

Stopped here on my Hawaii trip to get some poke! This was actually a few months ago, but I was reminiscing and had to post a review. The guy at the counter was probably the nicest fellow I've ever encountered. He gave me a little crash-course in poke and helped me figure out what kind to order. He was really friendly and had a great sense of humor! The other workers I interacted with were also incredible friendly and helpful. read more

So I frequent this Safeway because I work in the same mall. The big big issue with this Safeway is the speed of the employees! If you are trying to get in and out of a grocery store quickly this is NOT the place to go. Especially the deli. Nobody is in a rush here to get anything done. Most of the employees are over the age of 50 and don't speak very good english. They make a pretty darn good sandwich at the sandwich counter but holy crap it takes them a millenium! Slowest deli that I have ever been. Then if you don't pop a vein waiting for your sandwich, just wait until you get to the checkout line. Express lane? Oh they have one. As a matter of fact they have 2. They are far from express. This place absolutely sucks. It also hasn't had a remodel since what looks like the 70's. I would head over to Foodland or Foodland Farms instead of this Safeway location. read more

Worst Safeway I've ever been in. Can't believe Safeway executives tolerate such a disgrace to the brand. The store is always in disarray with dirty housekeeping, no customer service (with exception of cashiers) and obviously very poor store and district management. Last evening, over 60 people waiting to check out and only two cashiers. I would encourage Robert Edwards to make a surprise visit during a Maui vacation to observe. He would be sick to his stomach! Wish Yelp allowed 0 stars or minus, otherwise, they would never get1 star. My next grocery visit and I suggest you're should be is Foodland in Lahina. Experience clean, well stocked, well merchandised and most important, pride of employment and the Foodland brand! read more

Great poke here (at least five varieties daily) and only $10 a pound! I think I ate a pound a day for the last week.

Unfortunately the store was under renovation when we came, so I can't say for sure if the store is always good and clean. But it was easy to find stuff inside and the lines were quick. We were greeted by a wonderful employee, her name was Melanie. She was a wonderful cashier and she even helped us with some pricing that we missed. Very kind and attentive. Thank you so much Melanie. read more

If you're here on vacation go to Times or Foodland first. It's just okay and pretty pricey.

Yikes, this Safeway was a total let down. Since we were staying at a hotel nearby we decided to buy hot food to go and save money. We bought their fried chicken, made a poke bowl, bought 2 diffent kinds of cake, prepacked mango, all were a let down. We came to the hotel and literally thew away everything we bought. Chicken was stale and hard. Poke was disgusting, it was just disgusting. Cake was hard not moisted at all. It taste like has been sitting there for weeks if not months. And lastly the "fresh "packed mango that looked freshed and delicious tasted spoiled. Looks can be deceiving. Next time i am in town i definitely wont be shopping there for hot foods or "freshly packed fruits" read more

Shop quickly- you'll spend most of your time waiting in line to check out. Any time of day or night, there are lines of grumpy tourists stretching back into the aisles. You'd think they would hire a few more checkers, as this is a long-standing problem. Staff was friendly, though, and worked speedily to move customers through. read more

Considering the amount of traffic in this store, the managerial staff might consider hiring a few more cashiers. We waited 20 minutes on the express line. If you are evil and want to join the Safeway feeling of screwing your neighbor, just do what most folks do and jump in the express line, even if you have a hundred items. The store doesn't care. The place was poorly stocked and looked worn down. I gave it two stars instead of one because I found a parking spot. read more
