Everything we needed was here at Safeway! Great Club Prices on Booze, Soda, Food, & Leis! Patty the Florist was Awesome! We told her what kind of flowers we wanted, color, and design, and she took great care of us. Patty is professional, personable, and exemplifies the Aloha Spirit. She is getting ready to retire so go in and say hello. The only thing we could not find here was our Canada Dry Diet Ginger Ale. read more

This is the best Safeway! The produce is always fresh and even though it is always incredibly busy, the associates are all super helpful and friendly. $5 Friday's are the best although it does get cleaned out quickly! read more

Poke was garbage here. The fish counter guy was friendly but that's about the extent of the good rating. The checkout line was wrapped around drink isles and it took about 14 minutes for them to get someone to the front of the store to open up a new register. Go to Kihei if you want a better grocery experience. read more

I ate poke here 4 times out of the 6 days we were on Maui! Kimo was the big man behind the counter most of the time, and he made us sample each of the poke the first time we were there. I especially liked the fresh ahi poke (so, SO buttery!), and the tako limu poke. If you want rice with your poke and you don't have a rice cooker or are staying at a hotel/bnb, go to the deli counter and ask for steamed rice. YUM! read more

Price of bottled water was jacked up to $10.99 one Labor Day weekend after hurricane. This appears to be pure price gouging. Maybe they're trying to recover some of the cost of redoing their store. read more

RECENTLY REMODELED AND AWESOME. I grew up in the area and used to avoid this Safeway because it would be way too crowded and never enough checkout lines open. However, the store was recently expanded and remodeled, and it's a whole new place. Aisles are wider, the layout has been updated, deli expanded, there's a wine locker (not sure of the official name, but it's posh), and all kinds of serve yourself buffets. Self checkout has also been added, but in general it seems like there's been more lines open anyway. The best part about it to me though, is that it seems like there has been more employees hired, and the remodel has given employees more pride in the place. Customer service seems much more emphasized and intentional. I've visited the store and just placed an order from the deli, and it was SO pleasant. They were informative, helpful, and resourceful when they didn't know the answers to my questions off the top of their head. I cannot tell you enough how nice it is to talk to friendly people who will figure out how to find the answer to your question. I think most of the negative reviews were from before the store was remodeled. It should almost be noted in the info about the store, because it's a very different place than what it used to be. read more

This Safeway is huge and has a great selection of products. The downside is that it's crowded, expensive (but everything is expensive on Maui), and a little stressful. The ambiance is a little ghetto compared to the Safeway stores in the Bay Area, but you will find everything you need here. read more

Definitely crowded and awkward lines. That said, decent prices for Maui with good food. Much cheaper than eating out every meal. Salted Carmel Pretzel ice cream is deeeeelish. read more

If you will be staying in West Maui you eventually may have to shop here for at least some of your needs. Yes, it can be crowded and definitely will be expensive compared to mainland prices. Also, for some items at certain times of the day or week, they may be sold out (especially the items on sale, such as refrigerated juices). The latest quirk is bags for your purchases. Maui has banned plastic bags so all the markets have gone to paper. Yesterday my wife went in to purchase three items, and the clerk refused to give her a paper bag large enough to hold all three! Instead, she was given a small paper bag that only held two of three items. She asked if she could purchase a large paper bag, the clerk had to call the manager, and it was agreed that she could purchase a large paper bag -- for six cents! Locals know to bring their own reusable bags, but for a store that gets so many tourists, you would think Safeway management would be a bit more on the ball. Across the highway from Safeway is a small Lahaina Farms market. It's more upscale, I'd definitely buy my meats, cheeses and deli items here instead of Safeway. In Lahaina itself, Foodland is another good option (Foodland owns Lahaina Farms, too). We visit Maui 3-4 times a year, and like most of our friends with similar visiting schedules, the drill is to pick up the rental car at the airport, and make a stop at Costco on the way to West Maui, to pick up things like water, beer and soft drinks, liquor, packaged snacks, and some of our meats and vegetables for cooking. It saves quite a lot, as compared to buying these things at Safeway. read more

Whenever in Lahaina, this is the place where we get our daily food supplies. Have also ordered my son's birthday cake here twice.

This is a Safeway in a pretty glossy tourist center. The selection of foods is as expected in the setting, with decent produce and a good range of specialty fare. So far, so good. However, it's desperately understaffed, creating real problems for customers. If you cannot find something, there's essentially nobody to ask. The automated checkout asks one to wait for assistance too often, and the wait for human aid is long. I know that labor is expensive, but this is ridiculous. read more

Possibly the most expensive store on the island, they offer little by way of local product and mostly imported fruits and veggies.

We visited about 3 times during our stay in Maui as our resort room had a full kitchen. The prices are CRAZY high, but I'm told that is everywhere, Shelves were moderately empty and checkout lines were super long with only one register open. And saving the best for last..... there was a huge COCKROACH on the floor up by the registers. It was so disgusting just walking around. When I told the bagger lady, she seemed to have very broken English, but understood. So she walks over to it and stomps on it super hard and laughed - OMG, really??? I walked out disgusted. read more

Can take the bus from whaler village to this safeway! Very expensive and the produce is just so so. Service just so so!

Some people for get how they got here to HAWAII, plane, ship and yes boat . they are talking about our prices here in hawaii yes it's much more then where u come from (mainland) u have drivers that is right down the raod - we have a VERY BIG BOAT that brings in the food and supplies and that is alot alot of GAS that HAWAII have to spen on ???? just think about ??? read more

Brenda at the seafood deli is great! She was so helpful and friendly. She helped us choose the appropriate size and dish for our occasion. We are from Honolulu, but she extends her Aloha spirit to locals and tourists, alike. read more

Very unorganized and 1 line open for about 30 customers. Would rather drive all the way to walmart for a longer drive them spend my money on this local store and prices very expensive. read more

coming here made me realized how crazy the price is for groceries compared to the mainland safeways.

Disgustingly filthy dirty. Completely sold out of many items. Lots of empty shelves. (In fairness it was 9pm.) More expensive than other grocery stores we went to in the area. read more

Typical Safeway. Tourists and locals shop here. Had everything we needed. Friendly staff.

it's an old store ... nothing in here motivates me to do cartwheels .... "produce sticker shock" ... wine prices are reasonable

This store already has small aisles and yet they constantly are putting up temporary displays which I am always running into. I have my daughter in a car seat which makes it challenging to see over. I'm always running into displays of useless junk, jarring my poor child sitting in the cart knocking things over. So annoying. The employees are friendly enough but fail to make room for customers trying to shop. This happened to me in the wine department. I was almost run over by an employee backing and stocking the shelf at the same time. I was always taught to give the customer some space, so they can easily shop (and spend money). They also constantly stuff my cold bags with non cold stuff, or mixing cold items with cereal boxes, bread, etc. I'm frustrated with this store. Plus it is always super busy and hard to get around with all the people (and irritating temporary displays). I'm over it! Back to Foodland or the fancy Foodland Farms across the street. read more

Decent selections, high prices, limited parking, and rude clerks. But close by many resort properties so convenience is a plus. You can load up on essentials here and save lots of money on feeding the family during your stay, but don't look for the grocery store feeling you get back home. Parking is a nightmare, but you will get a spot eventually. read more

I like the organics and Nature's Way stuff at Safeway, like the prices too, but OH MY GOSH this one has got to have the slowest checkout process I have ever experienced. Not sure why that is, but if you are in a rush, I'd say check out Island Grocery. read more

Bad experience at this Safeway. Went to shop for the week during a stay in Kapalua. Store was dirty and seemed depleted of most items. Overall a pretty poor shopping experience. I would highly recommend Napili Market or Star Market instead of Safeway. read more

The lines here are craaaazy long but this Safeway is fairly well stocked. They didn't have dairy free ice cream which was a bummer, but tofu and soy cheese can be found there! They have pretty decent prices, especially for local items. read more

Nice little Safeway. It's where we stock up on groceries when we're in Lahaina. Service is hit or miss, one time you'll have a cashier who is over the mood kind and welcoming and warm and friendly and funny, and then you'll have R... who doesn't say a word or even acknowledge your existence in any way. It's weird having "Good morning!" ignored in Lahaina, which is sooo friendly. But you do you, R. You do you. read more

The deli here is a joke. First, the three employees I had contact with on three separate days ( Flora, Nadine and Estella) could not make a simple sandwich to save their lives. This was really strange as the deli had no customers on 2 out of the 3 times I visited-all times around lunch hour when most delis are packed. In fact,.there can be no line and the customer still has to aggressively flag down one of the workers to get help. If there is more than one customer, one will grudgingly make a sandwich (Nadine) while the other (Flora) all of a sudden becomes busy doing something in the back-which she wasn't occupied with at the time of the customer's arrival. The second customer then has to wait for Nadine to finish the first customer's order before starting on the second customer's order. Most importantly,it doesn't matter what kind of sandwich you ask for-- the request is uniformly ignored. On one occasion I told the employee no less than 3 times that I did not want mayo- only to have it lathered on within 1 second of my request not to have mayo. It then went from bad to worse-I must have repeated the simple order 5 times ( not a single note taken) only to have unwanted items put on the sandwich and wanted items omitted. On one occasion, I asked for a ham, turkey and Swiss cheese sandwich and Estella couldn't seem to appreciate that turkey needed to be used on such an order. Flora, on the other hand was asked to prepare a ham sandwich and insisted that it was a turkey sandwich-until I finally gave up and just settled for the turkey. Also, if you want a sandwich cut in half-you better specifically ask for it and be prepared for a surly look in response to this outlandish request . In fact, each time I went to the deli I had to specifically request that the sandwich be cut in half- apparently a tall request in this Safeway. Then of course, the job slicing the sandwich in half was poorly executed --not slicing the entire sandwich in half, rather leaving the bottom slice of bread uncut. Typically I would not bother posting about a sandwich but each time I went to this Safeway--the experience was so poor that there is no way this this dismal service was an isolated event.. In fact, when I was later at a function with some locals, a fellow there actually made a joke about the deli-which led me to believe that this shoddy service is well known by the folks who live in Maui, read more

$7.39 for a box of Frosted Mini Wheats. You get the idea, got you by the short hairs and there is nothing you can do because its the only full grocery store around. Bite the bullet and start showing the Benjamin's. read more

Talk about a trashy grocery store. Rude and slow staff, limited selection, filthy carts, etc - it's the only true grocery store in a 10 mile radius so everyone goes there but man, this place is terrible. read more

The Safeway in the Cannery Mall gets two stars only because some of the restaurants in Maui were worse! The Foodland store in the Lahaina mall downtown was much, much better! Like on the mainland (at least when they were in Kansas), Safeway's food costs more, and has less quality than other grocery stores. We tried some of their fried chicken after a tour to Hana, and it was the lousiest tasting chicken I've ever had! The resort's Mynah birds even flipped us off when we tossed some of the breading out to feed them - lol! Like Safeway's usual trend, the service is rather lousy, too. Long lines, slow cashiers, and rude cart retrievers keep up Safeway's dump-like atttitudes that they have been famous for going on decades now. They would not give my wife nor I the price discount cards like Foodland, because we were just visiting, and staying at the Sheraton. Therefore, a loaf of bread ran $3.69 a loaf (Foodland was at $2.69), and was hard and stale. But the Safeway was a good precursor to the shock wave that you will get in paying for any kind of food in Hawaii. They are out in the middle of nowhere in the Pacific, so everything's high! But it did really make my wife and I thankful that we live on the mainland. Losing a job living on the islands would make someone homeless in no time, with the price of everything! But while you're visiting Maui, I would definitely recommend Foodland over Safeway any day of the week! read more

This review is for the floral department at this Safeway. It was amazing!! I got all of the flowers there for an amazing price for my wedding. They even put together bridesmaids bouquets (which looked so great) on super short notice the morning of my wedding. The service from Grace was so genuine and helpful. I would recommend going here for wedding flowers for sure; I saved hundreds of dollars and no one would know it. read more

Decent grocery store. BF and I decided to stock up on some food so we wouldn't have to eat out constantly. Lady behind poke counter was sweet and gave us multiple samples. I ordered the fresh poke, it was good but nothing special. Most food there is overpriced but seems to be expected since we're on an island. Easily accessible via public transit (Maui bus drops off here) read more

Been shopping at this store for 20 years! hated that the produce was nasty and the staff rude and never learned my name, but this is a new low. I lost my debit card and DL and needed to write a check and even tho every checker there has seen me every day, sometimes twice because I bought fresh food for my B&B there for TWENTY years, they refused to cash my check! I have fallen in this store 3 times and was seriously hurt once but did not jump on the 'I'm going to sue you' bandwagon. There is always someone dragging a wet filthy mop around right in the path of shoppers. I told them I will NEVER set foot again and haven't. I go out of my way to go to Foodland where they know my name, the produce is always fresh, and I never wait in a line that circles the store. The manager is always looking for someone, who is looking for something, so he can lead them to it and they never look at you like you have horns when they ask YOU if you found everything, and you say 'no.' read more
