Not being a local, I was surprised to learn that the police trailers in the parking lot are security cameras. Inside the store some items (liquor and H&B) are in an seperate area with some items behind locks. I asked a staff member how long it had been like that and she commented 'something had to be done'. Between police cameras and locks; clearly a high theft area. We do have a Safeway card as we come across these stores in our travels and with these prices, we want to save where ever we can. It surprises me this store is so busy with so many other less expensive store options within a few blocks. But I get it. You know where the items you want are located. It's on the way home. It's easy. I came in right? Something drew me in. The store has all the departments - bakery, deli, meats, produce, frozen, etc. I gasped at the price of cold cuts. The sale prices are reasonable, so keep an eye on sale items and stock up. All the staff we have encountered have been delightful. The store seems clean and is well stocked. The flower and gift section is absolutely beautiful in this Safeway. When I came in tonight however, I shit you not, at least half of the store was taped off with caution tape, and no one was permitted past to access the meats, cheese, fruit juice, canned goods, cultural sections, etc. because they were doing janitorial work in those sections and washing the floors... Another shopper in passing shared his frustrations with me that half of his shopping list was in the taped off sections. I too, had planned most of my purchases in those sections . Why on earth not just wait another hour until the store is closed to do the floor cleaning ? read more

It's not often one would give a grocery store chain 5 stars (especially if that grocery store is a Safeway) but alas, here we are. Five stars and I'll tell you why... 1. Clean store and in a nice location. A lot do Safeways I find, typically are in terrible locations with no curb appeal. Not here. Location was convenient for me and the retail area it sits in was pretty well maintained. 2. Customer service. I quite enjoyed my interactions with the employees I encountered. My cashier was really nice and engaging. 3. Safeway app. While this may not she exclusive this store, it was nice to be able to use the Safeway app to find what isles my groceries were located in. 4. Starbucks. While this is common in a lot of grocery stores in the area, I just had to shout it out because the service and the drink were delicious. 5. We'll stocked. Everything on my list was in stock and shelves seemed full and robust. This Safeway is about 7 min from my home so it's definitely a "go-to" option for me and I will continue to come back. read more

** I take it back. The last 2 orders I placed had several items marked out of stock. I give up on Safeway. I have better luck with Walmart. I just wanted to recognize this location and tell them how much I appreciate them. I live by the Panther Lake Safeway and I work next door to the Covington Safeway but I stopped using both of those locations for online order pickup because both of those locations constantly mark many of my items out of stock and forget items in my order. The Kent Kangley location however, never messes up my order and they always shop all of the items I purchase and I'm never missing anything. This used to be the only Safeway I went to even though I live closer to a different one because this one has a gas station and it was so convenient to get gas and groceries at the same place. The old store manager was the nicest guy and was always so friendly and took a moment to say hi whenever we ran into him and was always being friendly with other employees as well. The new manager Keely/Keeley/whatever is SO RUDE. Every single time I've seen her talking to someone she has been incredibly rude and belittling. I stopped grocery shopping there about a month ago because of her and only go there now for gas. Until today anyway when she essentially told an employee out there that it doesn't matter if he's being verbally abused and threatened by someone because the person who did that was "a paying customer". Some woman was standing inside the gas station cussing and yelling calling the gas station employee a bunch of names and blocking other people from paying inside but rather than kicking her out and helping her employee out, that store manager came and reprimanded him since that woman was the paying customer, not him. I don't know how he didn't just walk out and quit right then and there. Apparently if you work under this woman, state laws allowing the right to refuse service don't apply. I can't even stand her enough to continue grocery shopping there so I can only imagine what her employee turnover rate is like. So I had some issues ordering a cake only because the ladies who helped me weren't cake decorators and they wanted me to follow up with the bakery to make sure I got what I wanted. The day before I was supposed to pick the cake up I went back in person and it was the same lady who helped me the first time. What's up with the young white kid working in the deli at the Safeway in Kent, WA on Kent Kangley? Dude is very rude and has a horrible attitude. He screamed at me yesterday for walking over to the deli meats and when I asked for something he told me sliced meats section was closed even though the deli was still serving hot foods (~6pm on a Thursday). I feel like he told me that just to turn me away. Is it worth reporting him to his manager? I know their jobs aren't the most luxurious but man that's terrible customer service. I called to followed up and there's was no record of my complaint! 17 days ago I contacted Safeway corporate customer service regarding the awful experience I had in the Store listed above! (Lake Meridian Store) I usually don't jump in all willy-nilly and pull the race card just because something is a little weird, it's a very damaging Accusation especially if you're wrong! However, my intuition tells ME I'm not WRONG! I know my experience was the purest form of racial profiling! I feel compelled to share my thoughts! August 27th at about 7 pm I was being perceived as a shoplifter! Your Loss prevention team (Two very young men ) RAN up to me outside blocking me from leaving and asking me to see my receipt!! I just got home from this Safeway. I tried looking for some good pre-made salads bit all the lettuce looked old, even in the bags with expiration dates in January. I did buy some yogurt, and I'm typically very good at checking best by dates, but the date on the container is 12.28.19. Tomorrow! It wasn't even on sale. Full price. It's a large tub too, not an individual size. A lot of the veggies were ...meh. Poor selection of organic food. Overall a standard Safeway, it's not notably clean or dirty. They have the same items and prices that you'd find at other Safeways in the area. Most of the interactions I have with checkout employees are at least average, then there are the other checkout employees who don't acknowledge me in anyway way, shape, or form and will continue their conversations with each other as if I don't exist. It's those kinds of employees that got me to abandon Safeway as my regular store awhile back. Now I only come because I forgot something and I want to grab it quickly. read more

But I just saw a new cashier lady that I haven't seen before, being rude and loud to older man over coupon. Typically I really enjoy shopping at this store however more recently, I cringe at the thought of even stepping inside. Each checkout line has at least 6-10 people waiting. I'm currently in line here. FOUR lanes are closed at 6:30pm - probably one of their busiest times. Shoppers can't even maneuver their carts down the main aisle due to insane back ups. Ugh. Truly the worst Safeway ever. I end up going here often because it is right next to my house, but leave angry almost every single time. The produce section is always missing some essential ingredient, like bell peppers or basil, and the shelves are unattended to. I once found an extremely moldy box of blueberries sitting on the shelf of one of the isles, not hidden at all. How long must it have been just sitting there for it to get so extremely moldy?? And no one noticed? Geez. Also, I have not been able to find a few meats that I've wanted there, such as ground lamb. OH, and the lines are always CRAZY LONG at the cash registers. This store was the Value Village when I was growing up. It's so weird to see how much change the area has gone through over the years. I appreciate the gas station, the Starbucks, and the clean and bright interior. I also appreciate that the lines aren't too bad here. I hate grocery store lines. With a HUGE passion. Robert in the Butcher Block helped me with the purchase and cleaning of a crab and went out of his way to be friendly and check weights of the crabs an eagerly offered to clean the crab and while doing so engaged in friendly chat. Another meat department employee was going out of his way to help an elderly woman in a wheel chair looking for a particular brand of humus. Not typically a meat department item, but helped anyway. The employee got her to the deli where she found the item. I was excited to see Lance had been moved to the Safeway close to my home. I used to go out of my way to shop the Albertson's store in Auburn near my mother in-laws home. I noticed a huge improvement in the quality of produce after Lance arrived at that store. The main reason for shopping at Albertson's was I could get some items at Albertson's I could not get at my local Safeway until that changed about a year ago. The items I was looking for was chicken breast in the butcher block, Great fried chicken in the deli and quality in the fresh meat selection. The thing that stands out about Lance is when I have shopped at the stores he has run over the years (4 Corners, Auburn and now Kent Meridian) I see him on the sales floor checking out his store engaged with employees and customers and that seems to make all of the difference between an OK store and a great store. As I passed the pharmacy I heard a gentleman that has waited on me in the past call out to a customer and greet him and asked about a surgery he recently had and wanted to know how he was doing. It felt nice to be in a store that was so engaged with their customers. Good job Safeway, I love my recently changed Safeway! read more

I appreciate ALL of the staff at Safeway. I've been shopping here for many years now and have always been pleased that the staff is consistently friendly and helpful. I especially give 5 stars to the floral department where the ladies who work there help above and beyond to make sure you have exactly what you are looking for and dress up any bouquet to suit your needs. Even when I don't have a floral need I usually browse through just to see all of the beautiful arrangements they've created. Pharmacist Keith is amazing. I have been coming to this Safeway for years and always have excellent service in the pharmacy. I was in recently and was talking to Keith about the government shutdown. Was using self checkout to purchase items that were 50% off, I called for help because the items weren't ringing up on sale.
