My co-worker recommended that I try out this place as they have really good cream puffs. I'm a huge cream puff fan and never had a fresh one before so I was really excited. We stopped by and when you enter, the smell inside is absolutely heavenly. I don't think I have ever entered such a wonderful smelling bakery. We were greeted by the sweetest female employee who was patient with us while we were trying to decide what to get. It was still really early so we weren't super hungry for sweets so we got a cream puff each. I got the pandan one while my boyfriend got the regular one. They were absolutely perfection, the filling was super yummy! I want to come back to try their other flavors. The macarons looked amazing and they have quite the selection as well as their cupcakes too. I will have to stop by more to get some more sweet treats. They have cakes too or you can order them as long as you give a few days heads up. They have a counter top to enjoy your sweets right away. They also have napkins just in case as well. This might be the best cream puff I've found in the Puget Sound. Perfect airy puff with crunchy craqeulin top and ample sweet but not cloying filling. Strawberry cream filling actually had some little strawberry pieces in it. They offer a variety of other beautiful sweets like macarons, eclairs, cupcakes, fruit pastry and cookies and brownies. We tried Tasty Doux as a treat for our daughter's birthday part. We ordered the cupcakes and everything in the order process was really straightforward and easy to navigate. I called in my order online and picked up my cupcakes about a week later. Pick up was easy and since you pay at the point of sale, I was able to get in and out when it came to pick up our box of cupcakes. On to the cupcakes themselves. They were so delicious and there are lots of options that to choose from and we ended up with a mix of choices. They were a big hit when we brought them to our Park date with family. Holy crap their cream puffs. I've known about this local business for a while, but finally got to try them and I have to say it's totally worth it. Between the vanilla, chocolate and strawberry fillings, I really can't decide which one was the best because all were perfect without being overly sweet. The outer puff shell was on point being not too soft or hard either. They even offer mini cream puffs which I got a bunch to gift away. I'm happy to see them fill the puffs in person/ making them to order so things wouldn't sit and be too soggy either. Aside from the cream puffs, they do have a small menu of other items including cupcakes, macarons, eclairs, and tarts, some of which are gluten free. The pandan cupcake was a bit smaller than expected, but definitely packed the right punch of flavor which is hard for many places to get right. Needed something for dessert on Thanksgiving since I didn't want to bake. Saw this bakery on Yelp, called and ordered eclairs and cream puffs. They were actually open on Thanksgiving so we got desserts that were super fresh. OMG the eclairs were so good. I didn't have a cream puff but those that ate them said they were amazing. My husband got a cupcake and he aid it was a little dry but the flavor was really good. I tasted the icing which I loved. It wasn't that awful sweet stuff, more like whipped cream. I feel the need to write a current review for this bakery that the Kent East Hill is exceptionally lucky to have. Reading some of the lower star reviews leads me to a couple quick conclusions. So call complaints: 1. They are expensive.? Take your unrefined cheap palette to Safeway. The quality offered here is unmatched and absolutely reasonable considering what you get. Not every shop is within all consumers budget. That's akin to you wanting to pay Walmart prices for cheap cookie cutter stuff at Nordstroms. 2. The owners are rude and pretentious? This one really got to me. They are the sweetest, most bubbly people ever. Always smiling and helpful. You would have to be giving off some serious a$$hole entitled vibes to get that reaction from them. 3. Complaining about the quality. Doesn't even need a reply. Goodbye. 4. They need two week notice on specialty orders? That's because they are incomparable. As disappointing as it can be to not get immediate gratification because we are all spoiled rotten, kudos to the success this small business is having. Plan better or go buy a crappy Kroger cake. These cream puffs remind me of Mini Concha's, pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread). It's a lot lighter.The top is crunchy and the vanilla cream is filled to the brim. What I like is that the outside is very thin and you don't feel like you've eaten a dense bread. It a puff that is filled so tight that it just oozes out when you take a bite. Have plenty of napkins on hand. You'll need it. When back a week later tried the Choclate and Pumpkin Spice. I ate them so fast that i quickly forgot what they taste like. I've never spent any time in Kent before but was around the area picking something up and decided to see if there were any notable spots on Yelp worth trying. I'm not going to lie - I was a bit reluctant to try Tasty Doux given the aesthetic and presentation of the bakery (I'm all about that branding!), but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and dropped by for a few cream puffs. I ordered 2 pandan and 1 vanilla but they misheard me and switched the two. No biggie at all, but wasn't off to a great start. We ordered a mini pastry, a couple of eclairs and a strawberry cheesecake cupcake expecting them to be delicious. Unfortunately, we were severely let down. The mini pastry was too dry and hard - it felt like I was crunching on a cracker instead of a fluffy pastry. It tasted like it had been sitting in the display for a couple of days. It was the same for the eclairs as well, and it even tasted a bit bland. The strawberry cheesecake cupcake was a complete waste because it looked like it had been freshly made, but when I bit into it, the cake was extremely dry and the frosting tasted like the cupcake had been out for MORE than a couple of days. As always Tarn makes the best Bavarian Cream Filled cream puffs. Her pâte à choux is better than Beard Papas downtown international district in Seattle. Tasty Doux is in Kent about a 30 min drive from downtown Seattle, 30 minute drive from Tacoma. So it's totally worth a drive wherever you are. All her items are delicious, the chocolate eclairs are delish, but the cream puffs hands down everyone's favorite when I bring to a party. Tonight I brought some to a womens party, and all gone in seconds. They have short hours, which is fine. The unfortunate thing is perps kept breaking into this awesome bakery, for what? Kitchen supplies to sell on Craigslist? Drinks, leftover cupcakes? The windows cost more than the cakes!! Horrible people out there. But don't deter you from supporting this mom and pop shop. From the staff being so kind and informative and forgiving because I've scheduled cakes and cream puffs to be bought, I've been late a few times all my fault but the people here are just amazing to say the least. OMG the most perfect little cream puffs! Honestly I have not tried anything else from them except for the cream and chocolate puffs but I can't really bring myself to get anything else from there since those little bites are perfection! I was responsible for bringing desserts at a SuperBowl party so i turned to Tasty Doux to grab macarons and cupcakes. Their macarons are insanely good. Theyve got a soft crisp on the outside and a creamy middle. They have a total of 8 flavors. I ended up only ordering 5 of the flavors: vanilla, fruity pebble, cookies n cream, birthday cake, and caramel. Everyone had their own favorite, but my personal favorite was the caramel. As a caramel lover, the middle had a strong caramel flavor mixed in with a bit of vanilla. The cupcakes werent dry and flaky. Although the frosting was smooth, it was overbearing with sweetness. I believe they have seasonal cupcakes so at the time i visited, they had red velvet and chocolate mousse cupcakes. Both frostings were topped with a cute valentines day chocolates. I think they had another seasonal cupcake, but i didnt pay too much attention as the red velvet caught my eye. The cupcakes cost $4 per and the macarons cost $2.50 per. Staff was super nice. Greeted me as i entered and was so cheerful. They all honestly looked like they enjoyed working there which is nice to see because then you know that their food was made with care. They were also patient as, knowing me, i have a tendency to double think at what i really want to order. Overall, i would love to come back here.
