I don't really even want to give the bakery department even 1 Star. O they never made my 6 years bday cake. Was picking it up on the way to his party and they acted like oh oops don't know where it is. Won't be going there again....here's the message I sent to Safeway.... On Wednesday, June 12th around 6pm I ordered a cake for my 6 year old son. The girl was a very young girl (teenager). I showed her what I wanted and she gave me a receipt. I told her I wanted it for this Sunday the 16th. While on my way to my 6year old's party on Sunday, me, my husband and 3 kids stopped by to pick up the cake at the fair oaks Safeway location. I just had a bad feeling. The woman at the bakery was walking around trying to find my cake that I ordered. She asked me what I ordered and I said a Pokémon cake. She kinda walked around and just said we can't find it. I looked at her and said," so what am I supposed to tell my 6year old son in the car about his cake?" The employee was not at all apologetic and said I can pick something on display. She then said I could wait 20 minutes or so for the cake to be made. We were on our way to my sons party and they were still waiting in the car. I asked if they could call the el dorado hills location and have them make it. The same (not concerned) employee (wish I got her name) said that they didn't have their number and were not affiliated with them. I was making a sene and so pissed. They messed up and didn't seem like they cared to fix it. Another employee called the El Dorado hills location and I could hear her talking to them. Then the original not caring employee gave me a blank paper and said to go over to the other Safeway with this and they are making a cake for free. I pointed at the cake I wanted and said,"this is what I will get?" And she said yes. Me and my family drove to el dorado hills (already late) and when I showed up I could tell the bakery department was mad at the fair oaks bakery which I totally understood. The manager Allison asked me if I brought a kit and I showed her the blank paper they gave me. The fair oaks bakery didn't give me the action figure kit and the el dorado one was out.!we were both pissed at the fair oaks bakery and I was about to have a breakdown for my son. Allison right away showed me a cake she could do with Pokémon and made it happen. I felt to bad for her. She did everything she could to make my son's day right and to fix another Safeway's mistake right. Please recognize Allison in El Dorado hills for saving the day. Well this review is more on insta-cart and just for you. I am being charged 99.00 a year for the pleasure of insta-cart even though they charge you for using it with each order. The prices are much higher than shopping in the store and Just for you. Just for you has better offers and a much larger selection. Once you sign up for insta-cart they lock you out from shopping any other way at safeway. I tried to call them was put on hold got tired of waiting so hung up. The reason for insta-cart you can get your groceries in a couple of hours in Just for you there is a longer waiting period. So buyer beware. I will never shop at Safeway again and hopefully I'll be able to cancel my 99.00 yearly fee. read more

I have always liked this Safeway since I started shopping there and find the staff friendly and helpful especially Desiree but what has really impressed me is how well the store and staff have handled the COVID-19 pandemic. I have shopped at several other grocery stores including my local Bel Air and another Safeway but nothing matches how seriously the Madison Avenue store has taken the situation constantly cleaning after each customer, courtesy clerks outside wiping down the carts making sure there are not too many people entering the store, etc. while still providing a friendly safe place to shop. read more

Great for Fair Oaks! Finally some quality competition for Raley's. Very nicely appointed, just like the stores on Manzanita and on 19th Street downtown. Check out the giant steel chicken at the western entrance! It's grand opening weekend, so all the staff are on their best behavior. The produce, bakery and meat sections are outstanding. The service at the deli counter is terrible. I've had the staff there see me and then ignore me for five minutes or more while they do other tasks. By the time they get around to helping anyone, there is usually a line and the h make no attempt to determine who was there first. read more

Once again the decline in Safeway's customer service shows itself. I stepped up to the deli and placed my order for a Just 4 U advertised special. Only to be told by not one but two employees that that was not a "special". I stepped aside to check the ad and to allow the next customer to place their order. While checking to see if I had made a mistake. I hear the woman who was behind me in line order the exact same order to the same two employees. I got back in line once I confirmed that I had correct information. When it was my turn again, I attempted to ask the same employees why they had done that. One of them just turned his back and walked away. The other said I just returned to work and I didn't know. I again place my order only to be told "we don't have all of the prices to complete the order". I settle for a substitute in the order. We shop here because the customer service used to be great. Getting as bad as Raleys! read more

We have shopped here for years with no issues until we happened to need to return something. Store is shady/ fraudulent. Had to return items on 2 occasions in the past month. Items were untouched, receipts in hand, store had no issues/problems with my returning them. Here's my problem with the store that happened not once but twice to us, they try to get away with refunding you a price less than what you paid for. First time the male store manager who processed the refund himself apologized and said "I'm sorry about that I will look more closely in future". He then hits one button, pops open the register and hands me the price difference in cash (without bothering to calculate the tax he owes me on the difference). Nor does he hand me a proper return receipt, it's just cash out the register. Apparently the current club price was lower than what I paid. I let it go thinking it was an honest mistake. Second time (today) the lady customer rep outright refuses because the current club price is now lower than the price I paid and clearly stated on my receipt. We paid by credit card but she refunds us in cash without a transaction receipt. Anyone else think this is strange? How long do they think they will stay in business by blatantly shortchanging us? read more

I didn't shop here when they first opened but now I go all the time. Beautiful store with a really nice produce section. Best bagels in the area! The fresh fish/meat guys are friendly and know their stuff. All of the staff is really friends. Like the Deli a lot too. This Safeway is located in a very convenient spot, it's right next to my pharmacy so I can pick up my prescriptions and then get something for dinner. Staff has always been very friendly, and they have finally had my Organics mixed Berry drink in stock. They have a Starbucks inside which was a perfect way to end my night with a warm carmel apple cider. Self check out is a plus and moves pretty fast, but sometimes the lines are pretty long and there aren't very many registers open. Store has always been clean and they have a nice selection of premade foods great for lunch or a quick dinner. read more

This store used to be great and then about 8 or so months ago it started going downhill. Management changed and a lot of new faces that were not nearly as personable. Checkers go thru the whole process without a word and I am always having to bag my own groceries. The quality of produce has also gone way down. I have also had to start checking expiration dates of the cheeses and milk after spending 8+ dollars on fontina cheese only to get home and find it was over a month expired. After that I always checked e expiration dates on the meats cheeses and milks and found several expired and would have to tell the clerks who did not seem to care they said they would take care of it. I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars in this store since it opened and after last week where I waited 15 minutes while one line was open and then had to bag my own groceries again I will not shop there anymore. read more

We shop here a lot. I am not good with names, but my regular checkers include a petite blonde-ish woman, Matthew, and Beth (self check). They are ALWAYS helpful and friendly. Starbucks staff is great. If I show up with out one or all of my three boys they ask about them. The man in produce even helps me find green bananas without being asked. We do most of our grocery shopping here cause I can't stand walmart. They have the best fresh produce of any store in that area and not to mention a great selection of meat. We pick up a tri tip at least once a month there. Customer service has always been great! There is only one thing keeping me from giving them a FIVE star review.......They are the only Safeway I have been to that doesn't sell craft beer in singles. Every other safeway has a great selection of 22oz craft beer! Why not here? There has been several times where we finish our shopping and then drive across the street to the overpriced grocery chain to pick up some craft beer. Oh and they also have a great florist section for if you are in the dog house or if its just one of those days out of the year when you need flowers! read more

The meat department is better I don't smell old fish anymore. I haven't had issues with buying Mike's party packs in awhile so it seems they fixed the theft problem. The boxes haven't been tampered with and all of the bottles have been in the boxes. Unfortunately, customer service still leaves much to be desired. The checkout personnel are friendly enough but the baggers seem more interested in goofing off then helping customers. While waiting my turn to checkout there were two baggers chatting it up with each other but they were bagging items. By the time I got there the dirty blonde male went to another checkout lane. The blonde female stood in my lane for a minute then took off and never came back. I had to help the checker bag my stuff. Might as well pay less and go to Winco if you have to bag your own groceries anyways. Or go to Raley's, pay similar prices and get better service all around. read more

So went to this Safeway, got what I wanted. Ms. Minnie was my casher and she was VERY nice greeted me with a smile. As I place my items on the belt a Safeway employee rushed by me and said "EXUSE YOU" right in my ear, as if I was in the way. I was not one in the way. Now that the grand-opening fervor is over, everyone is still on their best behavior. The employees are great - very friendly and always willing to help and go that extra mile. For some reason, this store is unique from most Safeways - and they have sales and special events that other Safeways don't get to have. Don't know why, but it's cool! I'll bet they've really given Raleys a headache!! I am an ex-Raleys diehard fan - and since their service and quality have gone down the toilet, I'm extra glad that this Safeway is so great. I always shop at this Safeway and I'll have to say very clean and the majority of employees doing amazing work especially around the Holidays, I usually don't say something unless it's a continuous problem but the seafood and meat deli has a very rude employee, maybe it was a bad week for him but I walked up on a non busy time , he saw me but didn't engage I had to ask him for help, when he finally got the piece of salmon I asked for he kinda shoved it at me and slammed the door to where the meat was, this isn't the first time this has happened, also one of the store people that replenish the shelves was rude because I had to walk by him while he was stocking the shelves. Call me crazy if you will but a smile and a how's your day goes a long way no matter how your feeling. I'm in customer service I know how unreasonable customers can be and if you let it can ruin your day. Ok I started shopping at this Safeway 2 years ago this November. Not very happy with bakery. Can't get descent bread...Deli leave a lot to be desired. Writing a check for groceries with their card is a joke. But finally the absolutely worst..We did some shopping and wanted to make 4 bean salad, got home and first can opened can was rusty inside beans were black and smelled to high heaven. Looked at the dates on the cans 5 in all and everyone of them was out of date by as much as a month...When I did my next shopping we reported it to some one who was supposed to be a manager and he was looking into it. I checked all the cans to try to make the bean salad again and every can on the shelve was out of date...I picked up sour cream and made a baked potato and the sour cream was turning...Milk 2 days from out of date...They are selling out of date merchandise to cut costs....We are an older couple and I have a health problem that may be fatal if I get semolina, or food poisoning from bad food... We have reported it but have seen no improvement over a months worth of shopping,..I just hung up the phone from talking to management. My decision is to shop someplace else where I don't have to worry about them killing me or my husband read more
