I just moved to the Orangevale area and this is the closest Safeway that we have in the area. I have not been able to walk much around it other than the alcohol section to get stuff for mimosas and the deli where I picked up a breakfast burrito. I will say that Anthony at the deli is quiet but friendly he was efficient and had us in and out quickly. The store appeared to be clean which I also appreciated. read more

Was in the store shopping when I saw a man walking around the store coughing on people not wearing masks. Then he walked up to me where he promptly coughed on me while I was wearing a mask. 3.5 stars? Good store, but small selection when compared to Raley's across the street. The store is about half as big and I'm not exaggerating. The prices on the other hand are, for the most part, competitive with Raley's/Bel Air. To Go - Nice, big and affordable selection. Also nice because it's all in one display and it's easy to find everything. I think it's bigger than Raley's (across the street). Deli - never used it. The wine and alcohol prices are so much cheaper than Raley's. I don't how they do it, but 95% of the time it's better to come here than across the street. The bakery area is good: - donuts are ok - I've never tried their bagels - fresh bread is good, but they're terribly unorganized and they don't sort them well. You have to bend over to read the tiny signs. - you can't buy individual cookies, only packs of 2. At Raley's you can buy individual cookies. - the cookie/croissant/pastry plastic containers are a very good deal. Pharmacy - have never used it, so I can't comment here. Meats at this location are great. The selection is just as big as Raley's and seems to always be in stock. Raley's seems to sell out of Foster Farms chicken more than ever before, luckily I can always find it here. The seafood section might not be as expansive, but I feel that it's equally good and fresh. Produce - good prices. Organic selection is smaller than most stores nowadays. Floral - very nice flowers at a good deal. Tons of balloons and gift stuff to choose from. US Bank - never used them, so no comment. Maybe someone else has something to add? Starbucks - I've never purchased any food/drink items from here. But it seems like there is always a steady stream of customers. The staff is always friendly and so are the baggers - if they have any working when you come in. Unfortunately, they have really cut back on staff and even when they are busy there are only 2 - 3 check stands open plus the self checkout. But I guess that's how they keep prices lower. read more

There was a person in front of us and she wasn't rude to him. I'm just glad my dad got his vaccine after all. I had to update my review, only due to the store manager Matt and the fact that they were open on Christmas. I wish all employees would follow Matt's footsteps in customer service. I have been impressed with how attentive to the needs of his customers he is. I was waiting in a long line and he opened up a check stand and checked my groceries out. Thank you so much!!!! Citrus Heights Safeway Store- 8925 Madison Ave Fair Oaks, CA 95628, I called tonight at 7:15pm and requested the Deli make me 4 of the American Sub (made from French Bread). The young man said it would be awhile till they were done because there was just 2 of them working in the Deli and it's busy, I said well can you have the other employee cover the deli till(the other employees was off at 8:00pm and he'd be alone then) he could get the sandwiches done before he left. He told me that's what he was going to do, we got there and my Daughter went in at 8:00pm to pick them up and they hadn't started them yet. I called the Manager in the store to complain of them not being done as promised, the female Manager was rude. I said if he needed more help he should have asked, she said he did but when there untrained there not much help. She said he didn't do it on purpose to me, that she'd offered me a discount and didn't know what else I wanted. My Daughter went in and bought some mayonnaise she'd forgotten and went to the register the Mgnr was working at, my Daughter said she had attitude with her going on about the deli doing it on purpose. SHE IS RUDE AND HAS NOO BUSINESS TALKING AND TREATING CUSTOMERS AS SUCH. The whole thing was handled wrong and when he'd contacted her she should have seen to it to make sure all were handled right. Terrible customer service rep. I am not sure if she is lying or not, but based on what she said it was highly probable that what she said was false. Not only that, she said it with confidence. I only wrote this because I felt like I was lied to. If instead she was honest and said I do not know how operate the machine well enough to do that. Or something on the lines of admitting her shortcoming rather than stating something false. I would not have minds having a bunch of tickets. I don't mind incompetency as that can be worked on. But dishonesty is something I cannot tolerate. I was buying some powerball, and she printed my quick picks individually and said this is a new machine and it can't print it all on one ticket. One if its new, it should be more advance and should have that capabilities. Two those machines are expensive, I worked in retail and its not often you replace machines as it is costly (and it did not look new). Three even older machines can do it. Four then she said I could not pay with debit and only cash because of new management (this could be true, but so far every where I been to accepts debit). Safeway is safeway, we know its not the best quality of meat or produce, but they have what i need and they always have a lot in stock. It has a very open layout and is actually a big store. I was also pleasantly surprised with their GLUTEN FREE options. they actually had more gluten free options than Raleys! Gasp! i know, right?! so if you are on a gluten free diet, you can come here for all of your needs! The check out line is pretty easy breezy. and I always feel safe coming in late at night. My boyfriend and I have been coming to this safeway for almost 3 years now. We have probably spent hundreds of dollars on EXPIRED food. We only shop here because it's so close to our apartment, plus I use my grandparents reward card so everything usually pretty cheap. We now have to check every single item before we buy it since so much stuff we've bought have been expired. Sometimes we can't even buy something because every one on the shelf is expired, sometimes several months expired. Never have i seen a grocery store this bad. The other day my boyfriend was going to buy a frozen chili's meal and noticed there was a sticker for the expiration date, so he peeled it back and saw that it had expired a couple months ago and safeway covered it up with a fake one!!! This Safeway is SO much better than the one I used to frequent on Folsom Blvd. The cheese selection in the deli is surprisingly large and carries much more variety than any other Safeway that I've seen. The veggies here don't look like total crap (SHOCK), and the space between the front of the aisles and the checkstands is very wide so you aren't on top of people who are waiting to pay and get the hell out. Let me start off by saying that our family shops at Safeway every week and will continue to do so. We recently had a annoying experience with the butcher this past week. I usually avoid Safeway meat and deli if I have the time to go to a butcher or delicatessen. I was a little rushed due to a busy week, and pulled their packaged tri-tip. From past experience, they leave a huge layer of fat on the bottom, and force you to trim off a bunch to get down to a reasonable amount of fat. If you are thinking 'fat is good and adds flavor,' I agree. However, standard tri tip cooking calls for trimming down to a smallish amount of fat if you are grilling. You don't want to cook fat side down on a grill if there is a 1/3 inch layer of fat. I approach the butcher, and he is immediately grumpy. I ask to trim some fat off the tri tip. He fires back 'well you know the price will be the same.' I'm fine with that. Stupid, but that's ok...long-story-short, he was curt with another question I asked and showed ZERO customer service. This might be acceptable if not for the fact that they were absolutely not busy. They are NEVER BUSY. I was prepping for a barbecue and spending $500, and am on pace to spend $15,000 at this location for this year. Respect my name bro. I am open to increasing my review, if I see better form out of the customer service. read more

I received both my Pfizer Covid-19 vaccinations and was completely impressed how both ladies who administered the vaccines did so without causing me any pain at all. Safeway pharmacy, Before I started writing this review I took a couple of hours to calm down and think about how I felt and why I should write a review, I have never written a review before so here goes, I transferred my prescriptions from Raleys pharmacy to Safeway pharmacy because I thought the store was nice and clean and there food is really really good. However the pharmacy is nothing at all like the store. And the 25 dollars is a scam and the service is worse. I encountered a very hostile tech and a pharmacist that thinks she's better than the customer. I was put in my place like a kicked animal by there manners and attitudes. Worst safeway I've been to, which is saying something. I used to work for a safeway. This one forgets to swap out their old bakery foods. I even had to return a piece of cake after I tasted it and the frosting tasted rubbery. I found out it was expired. Also, we had the rudest cashier once who made us not want to come back. I wish I remembered her name. We were about to pay for our groceries and I didn't have our joint account debit card with me so I asked my husband of he had it and he said no. The lady then looked at me and said in a rude snide voice, "looks like you planned that one out" or "way to plan ahead" or something to that degree. Can't remember the exact wording but we were both in shock at how she treated us that we didn't even know what to say to her. I just pulled out my personal debit card and paid for the items. We left very upset at her and vowed not to return. "Way to be a b****" we thought to ourselves... We go to raleys now and we have never had bad treatment there. I don't remember that cranky lady's name. She might have been in her 50's. It was like a year ago though so who knows if she even works there anymore. I won't be going to find out. read more

the pharmacy here is GARBAGE. their hours are incredibly limited for someone who works full time, the pharmacists almost specialize in not having customer relations, and when i needed medication that's necessary to my day to day life, they told me basically too bad and to come back tomorrow. some people can't afford to wait to get their medication, and i'm one of those people. i hate this fucking place and i'm changing where i get refills ASAP read more

Just had a terrible customer service experience. TWO employees were manning the self checkout and BOTH left their post so when my item that costs 4.99 rings up at 7.99 I had to wait around to even get anyone's attention and when I did she tells me I must have read it wrong and I say no I didn't. So she doesn't offer to check or make it right then the second employee comes up and agrees and says I'm wrong. So I said you know what, keep it then. And then as I left with my items I decided to go back and look... Wouldn't you know it, I can read perfectly fine! And then went back tp let her know that the system is wrong and she should fix it and she was clearly shocked I had the audacity to carry on with the issue. And THEN offers to fix the price after I've already checked out and walked the store and came back.... I'm good... just fix the problem in the system and work on your customer service skills. We all work long ass days, I get it you're tired and so am I. But when you try to make me feel stupid instead of doing your job, that's when I have a problem. read more

Last night I headed to Safeway to buy some late night groceries. Before arriving to the store, I tried adding a few promotions on my just4u safeway app. The app seemed to be having some trouble as nearly 50% of the offers I tried adding to my cart brought up an error message. I hoped that I could be helped personally by an associate during my visit and proceeded to select my items at the store. During my checkout, I asked the cashier if there was a way to resolve the app issues so I could redeem my desired offers. He insisted that although most cashiers would be able to assist me, he could not. He did not elaborate as to why he couldn't help me, but did advise me to speak with the main clerk, Amanda Rodriguez. I figured that he may have been a newer employee or perhaps didn't have access to managing offers and so I checked out as such and then made my way to Ms. Amanda who was leading the self checkout register. I approached her and explained the situation and was asked to bring up my app and refresh the app. When I told her I wasn't sure how to refresh my app, she was very abrupt and said "just refresh your phone. Like on my phone, I just swipe down and it refreshes." I noticed her abrasiveness but didn't put much thought into it. After restarting my app completely., I pulled up the same offers and clicked on several offers which all displayed error messages. Amanda responded with, "well the offers are no longer valid, so you cannot add them". I clarified to her that the offers were clearly valid given their expirations were due 8/17/19 and emphasized that this was occurring with nearly half of the offers I was randomly selecting to sample. I proceeded to ask how best to resolve this and she responded with, "I'm trying to help you, but you don't really seem to want my help". I clarified that was clearly not the case given she was the second associate I was seeking assistance from. After a few more attempts with the app, I noticed that my savings did not reflect a club card savings (and not a just4u item) so I went ahead and added the offer to the app in front of Amanda and she jumped in saying, "I just saw you add their [tortillas] coupon" as if that were reason for me not to receive the savings. At this point, Amanda's tone made was accusatory as if she thought I were trying to get away with savings I was not entitled to (again, the tortillas were clearly club price savings and not just4u). I felt a bit defensive and reminded her that I had already shown her that the app was not allowing me to add my offers as selected and again, she reverted to "I'm just trying to help you but I dont think you want my help." Amanda probably said that statement 5 to 6 times while I sought help, making me sense her unwillingness to assist me as she questioned my integrity in using the offers. Given the horrendous attitude I received from Amanda, I decided that instead of arguing with her and spending another 15 minutes trying to resolve my issues, I would simply not return to Safeway. There are so many incredible stores in the Folsom/Fair Oaks/Roseville regions, all of which I have access to, than to put up with a "head clerk/hiring manager" who has zero respect for her customers. I am very saddened by this experience because I have always have exemplary experiences at Safeway locations, but to give such a person the title of Hiring Manager is questionable. read more

I normally love this store. I do all of my shopping here. So I decided to order a cake from the bakery for the first time for my sons birthday. I ordered it 3 days in advance and was going to pick it up the day before his birthday just in case something went wrong. Well that wasn't enough. I came to pick it up today and they never made it. She had my order but said it was never made. Then I asked if they could make it by tomorrow and she said no. Seriously?! Then I asked if I could just buy a plain cake and they can write something on it. She couldn't do that either because she didn't know how. I understand this isn't the girls fault she just happened to be covering at the time. It's just very disappointing from a store that I normally love. So after finding out Winco was closed tonight I googled 24 hour grocery stores and this Safeway came up- read reviews on yelp and decided to drive the 5 extra miles- was excited that I found a store opened and that it was only 5 miles away from me. Arrived and noticed it was pretty quiet and seemed kinda dark in the parking lot and the store front. Walked to the front doors (in the rain) and I asked the young gentleman that was standing by the front doors if they were opened and he informed me that 5 am is opening hours. Is it that hard to do your job? Called from across town to ask when the pharmacy closed. They said 2:30. Okay. Got there at 2:20, walked in and the pharmacist rolls down the gates at 2:25. No, my clock is not off. Otherwise the car clock, watch, phone, and customer service counter clock would be off too. Absolutely disgraceful that an establishment would roll down its gates right behind the sign that says they would not be doing so for another 5 minutes. Terrible customer service at deli counter. They wont aknowledge you and when you finally get someone to help you they work at a slower than employable rate. I dont know how they still have jobs or any business. 3 people couldn't handle 3 customers. Go somewhere else for a sandwich. Safeway needs to stop hiring people that dont know whats on their menu.
