This store is disgusting. Found two tomato labels inside the in-store pre-made guacamole, just the latest incident.

The only positive thing about this store is that I can walk to it but with other stores moving into the neighborhood I will at least have choices close by. In general when you can find someone who works there, they are helpful but the store is understaffed and under stocked all of the time. It is unbelievable that management has not yet been fired...though I imagine when Harris Teeter steals all of their business it will only be a short time. read more

Very pleasant excursion into this Safeway early on Easter Sunday --- got flowers, latte and Easter Bunny candy.

I actually like this Safeway for my grocery shopping. If you learn to come in on the right days when they restock, I've had very good luck with their produce. They also carry some of my favorite brands that other stores do not, so I will keep coming here because of that. I've never had a problem with their cashiers or customer service overall. The parking for me has never been a problem either, but I usually don't even bother with the front lot at all, the side lot isn't actually that much farther and it's way less hassle. read more

Canton Safeway...for such a long time it was the only option in the vicinity. It isn't anymore. Here's why I won't be back, after having been a very regular shopper for three years. Early in February, in the run-up to yet another storm, I was in there along with everybody else. Lines were very, very long, tempers were short. After waiting patiently at the checkout for probably a half hour, there were two people with two carts checking out together in front of me. A third party, cart loaded, pushed up to the front of the checkout line (I mean running her cart into people to get to the front) and started off loading her items to the people checking out. I, and others, protested. She said she was with the other people and it was okay for her to do this. I, and others, kept saying it was not okay and to take her turn in the line LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE. I asked the checker to explain the rules to this person, who is steadily ringing the items passed across two other shoppers (there was a man in front of me). She said: Everybody stop talking. I said, fine, call the manager. The man (of the pushy threesome) then says to me: you better not push it, you better not mess with me, I'm telling you now, don't mess with me. He's maybe 30 years old, weighs conservatively 275 pounds. No manager shows up. Finally it's my turn to check out. I said to her, what was that about? Do you have rules or don't you? She keeps her head down. "Of course we have rules" me: why did you let that happen? No answer. Me: where's the manager? She tosses her head to a register a few lanes over. I go up to him. I said: where were you just now, when I asked for you. He says, I went over there, I didn't see nuthin goin on and I didn't hear nothin. I looked at him and I said: your checker told everyone to "stop talking!" Why didn't you ask the customers standing there if anyone had asked for you? I didn't see no need for that. Bottom line: "management" let one customer ram other customers with a loaded cart, didn't care that one of their customers threatened me and the other man, (both of us elderly) didn't enforce their own rules and then went into full passive aggressive mode, literally rude, completely unprofessional, when confronted. I later found out that the "manager" I spoke to, was an assistant in charge after the real manager left for the day. And now I shop exclusively at Harris Teeter. I know I'm not safe at Safeway Canton. read more

I'm surprised at the negative reviews of this place. It's very conveniently located, and it's 24 hours/has rescued me from many late night disasters. I think the prices are pretty good, but I usually shop and cook by what's on sale, and I never buy the pre-prepared stuff. It really isn't that bad compared to the other food options in downtown Baltimore (especially "Fresh" and "Green" or the other Safeway on Charles St). read more

Most incompetent pharmacy I have ever been to. They gave me the wrong medication! There was even a stop sign on the front if the bottle that said do NOT swap the tablet form of this medication for the capsule and they did anyway! Their excuse was they were out of the tablet form. Pharmacists are supposed to be educated people. They dispense medication that if done wrong could kill people. HEAD OUT OF ASS PHARMACIST! read more

Less than one star in my book.Safeway marketing doesn't seem to listen or even care that consumers are complaining about the high, unrealistic prices . S/W someone named Jessica In Clackamas ...She is apparently getting a nice salary because she has an excuse for everything ...many of us want the prices to go down to being more realistic than they are. Right now, many are totally unacceptable everyday prices. Having to purchase multiple items to get a savings is a joke ...they do not even take into consideration that seniors may not need multiple items this having to pay more plus the fact what if there is only one item out of what is listed they can use but don't need more ? The "cause of the month club" is the aggressiveness of the checkers to prod them to donate to some cause each month or shoving that colored piece of paper in your face asking you to do a survey ...Customer donate and Safeway takes the credit ... Not getting the ads in the weekly FoodDay was a big mistake ...now they allegedly come in the mail and if you are lucky, you might get it on Wed, the day the ad starts.Yes they will suggest you checkout the web site but not everyone has access ... Safeway is not catering to the consumer but themselves ...Corporate greed. Ever wonder why so few chexkers in the morning but long lines some times ? It's to keep profits up and labor down so,they rob Produce/Dairy and Frozen to check so they can save money but those doing that cannot get their jobs done ...It all about the almighty dollar anymore with them and more so ...Many of us have switched to the completion , Fred Meyers for more and more shopping . And by the way , watch what is being rung up as not everything is in their system , especially their in store coupons and you will get charged more . Lost track of the many times it has happend to me and have tom ring it to their attention . The reduced rack in the back of the store usually in the pathway of the back room so you might get run down by someone and the reduced prices are a joke .50% off of already high prices is still too much ... read more

They are open 24 hours, if you decide to go late night, you most likely get the employees who are never polite, will not care about your problems and never say thank you/your welcome. There is only one cashier who apparently doesn't like customers, slow at his job and has a cold and unwelcome attitude. I had never seen him smile, or laugh or have any small talk. FYI, they have one cashier open after midnight, so the checkout line can be very long and sometimes waited over 45 minutes to pay. Every time I have to shop at this Safeway, I always want to leave or I feel disgusted of how I was treated with shopping there. My first bad experience was about a year ago, I had a problem with price on my receipt. I was charged too much, I had talk with customer service, but they were closed. I had to speak with the only cashier available. The employee respond with a rude and upset attitude because I had an issues of being overcharged. First he didn't wanted to look up the correct price, second did not apologizing for their mistake and then arguing with me about it all. Immediately walking out in the parking lot, I spoke to the employee about his attitude. She informed me that he always has that horrible attitude, she doesn't understand why he still works at Safeway. The employee agreed with me about him. Another bad experience occurred about a two months ago. My boyfriend wanted to pay with his amex, didn't want to use cash, he forget his ID at home. The cashier and management required to see his ID over $100, he asked the manager if they can speak to amex customer service to confirm his identity. Management will not accept his suggestion into speaking with them and unfortunately he had to pay with cash. In all the other Safeway in the Baltimore metro area I never had any problems with employees, never asked to see my ID for credit card transactions and hoping/wishing that one particular employee to be fired from his job. Only if Harris Teeter at Canton Crossing stays open after midnight, I could be shopping there. read more

This Safeway is only good because of the floral selection and their meats are really good, but expensive. Sometimes they have decent sales, but most of their stuff is overpriced, especially compared to other stores around. The store is dimly lit most of the time, they usually only have 1-3 registers open even if the store is packed so you'll be in line for 45 minutes or longer. They do have self check out lines, but sometimes they don't even have all of those open. Their service desk is unattended so you end up standing there for 10 minutes or longer before a cashier or random employee asks what you need, then they call someone for you, and you still have to wait. Then they are usually rude, especially if something they have sale signs for rang up wrong, like you're bothering them because you were over charged since they have a lousy system. Also their carts aren't as deep as other stores, but I guess with their high prices they don't need deep carts cause people really won't buy so much to stock up their cabinets. Their Starbucks is decent. read more

Usually a decent shopping experience. However-holding my 4 year old in a self check out line for 20 minutes while only 1other line was open. 8 people behind me and no one opens a line until the last guy in line complains to customer service person who says," I'm only a courtesy clerk" but does get the manager who calls a cashier. While the "Courtesy Clerk" was getting manager-useless security guard says theres noting I can do-I am only security. They open 1 additional lane open-only the light is off-so no one knows its open.. The cashier from the ghost lane now asks the security guard to tell some folks she's open. I am next still holding my son-at the self checkout. I step up. Previously useless security guard now says they say this is supposed to close at 10. I say after me-I'm sure you saw me standing in line for 20 minutes. He proceeds to shut down the self check out line register.-useless securiity guard shuts down the register. without checking with the manager, courtesy clerk anyone at my request. Has to be the worst lapse in courtesy, customer service, common sense I have seen in business. Ridiculous. Holding my son-I was to livid-not wanting to set a horrible example by ripping the guard, customer service rep, and the manager a new one-however can not wait to bring this to the attention of manager live tomorrow. read more

Beware: Uptight manager on-duty! I am a cooking and nutrition teacher for inner city kids here in Baltimore. A major part of my job is buying supplies for my class, i.e. food. Needless to say I spend some time in grocery stores. I usually go to Whole Foods, but because they are expensive sometimes I try to save money by stopping at this Safeway before I head into work. I loved this store because of it's selection and prices. The people who work there are very good at what they do as well. However, this morning I stopped in to buy oranges and was humiliated by the manager on duty. It is raining outside so I was wearing a hoodie. I was walking through the store with my hoodie on when the manager approached me and told me to take my hoodie off. I would have been fine with that, but the way he did it was degrading and humiliating. He used a tone with me that was reminiscent of my father when I was 5 years old and just talked back to my mother. He told me that, "Your not allowed to wear hoods in the store." I felt like he was accusing me of being a shoplifter, or gangster. The people around me looked at me like I was doing something wrong. Needless to say I put my oranges away and took my business elsewhere. I don't know who this man is, but I do know he lost a loyal customer for life. I am a hard working member of the community, and I did not deserve to be ridiculed in this manner. read more
