Compared to other locations and I've been to some many, I'll confidently say that I do like the different varieties at this location. The store seems to be a lot bigger and they stay true to what I first loved about Lidl, variety and freshness. The produce section is huge and I love their multiple choices of organic fruits and vegetables. Today was my first time going here in a minute and it did seem like it was closed at first because there was nothing in their vestibule area. I love to purchase orchids from them because they are very vibrant in color and healthy looking. Lidl is very clean and well‑organized, especially compared to the Aldi I visited today. The difference in how the two stores are managed is noticeable. My only complaint is that Lidl had just one full‑service checkout lane open on a busy Saturday, which caused a long line. A little more staffing at checkout would make the experience much smoother. read more

Today I went to Lidl's Supermarket just to pick up a few things. The prices were so good I kept adding to my cart. I started getting a little worried because my plan wasn't to spend a lot of money. Much to my surprise for $56 I came out if there with two full bags of groceries which included trash bags and a plant. Meat, fruits, (organic) vegetables, cheese, ice cream, spices. It's my new supermarket. Gone are my days of sitting in Safeway parking lot trying to figure out what I purchased that only got me one bag of groceries for the same price. Definitely would not of had flowers included. If you're on a budget Lidl's is the place to go. There were a few things I didn't like. They need to get more cashiers. There was only one which was a little off putting but their prices were worth the wait today. It could be a little more tidy; it had that bargain store vibe but the products I purchased were great quality. They actually had spices in glass bottles for $.99! Came here to see what all the hoopla was about. Now, first and foremost, I am an Aldi store shopper, but needed to do a comparison to judge which store would provide the better shopping experience. Here is my takeaway: ALDI Pros: *Comparable products that are good dupes for some name brand items *Low cost produce and dairy *Weekly buys Cons: *25 cents for a shopping cart *Limited staff in store for assistance *Usually long lines at checkout LIDL Pros: *No cost shopping carts *Low cost produce and dairy *Expanded selection of items *Self checkout Cons: *None on my first visit ( will update on return trips) So all in all, I do like Lidl as it is closer to me and I can get comparable items that I get at Aldi. I love new spaces always and this did not disappoint . It is a discount market with in house brands and name brands. Kind of comparable to Aldi but different as well. First no charge for carts and self checkout. There are cashiers but the option for self checkout is there. Super produce section with great prices all around. Produce and bakery and flowers greets you at the door. Bakery is not all that but I like the self serve bread option. There are so many options in this bright store. There are food options , household items, clothing, A LOT. see pics. I had a small cart full of items and paid $8. Price comparable to Aldi. Selection is not as universal as Aldi in that there are a lot of international items. Not a lot of recognizable snack items. There is an entire Organic aisle. But again items limited. See pics..... Compared prices today at Aldi and Aldi is more expensive but like I said Aldi has more recognizable items. read more

Today was my first time in Lidl and I was completely underwhelmed by my experience. First, although this is not included in my reasoning for giving the store a three, the parking lot is a nightmare. Small and congested. Get into and out of the parking spaces is a nightmare. Second, I'm not sure it is because of the day or the impending snow, but the shelves were virtually bare. The meat section was low and the veggies and fruits were picked through. Some of the veggies looked old and wilted and the meat shelves were sticky and needed a good cleaning. I was surprised to see a lot of familiar brands, but the selections really were large. Getting through each aisle was a nightmare. With a store that was already congested, why are employees leaving huge pallets of boxes in the middle of the aisle to restock shelves? Many aisles became literally just one way. Lastly, there was only two open checkout lanes in addition to self checkout. The lines were in the aisles. The cashier was quite rude and she didn't even acknowledge me. As I said, this was my first time, so I had no idea that I had to buy bags or where the bags were even located. She had checked out throw more people before I was able to get my items bagged. All and all, my experience while not the worst, was quite mediocre. I am usually big on giving places second chances, but I do not believe I will be returning to this grocery store. read more

It's great to see this once-vacant spot filled with a discount grocery store employing members of the community (support this cause further by going through regular checkout!). It's hard NOT to compare Lidl to Aldi. They're both German discount grocery stores that are pared down from your traditional grocery store. I'll try to focus on Lidl of Catonsville though. Here's what they get right: -Pastries and other baked goods. Dear God, it is dangerous how cheap one can buy some croissants or pain au chocolat here! They embrace their German roots in providing awesome pretzels and sourdough. -Decent selection of affordable organic meat and wild-caught seafood all at a respectable price you don't really see at your typical store. -cool weekly promotionals of non-food items (e.g. early Spring featured some gardening items at a good price) Some drawbacks: -This location always feels like a work in progress. There are often empty spots where something hasn't been (re)stocked and the staff is either not interested in helping you find something or so busy trying to keep up that they can't.* -Nearly the entire perimeter is refrigerator or freezer doors. This is one way I prefer the traditional store where I can go up and down 2 or 3 aisles and have everything in that category, not have to go around the entire store. Double-edged sword: Lidl is a bit bigger than Aldi with a greater selection of nearly everything. While the larger selection can be nice, it can veer towards daunting and difficult to find everything (why is seafood in two opposite corners of the store?!) whereas Aldi's compact simplicity makes finding things much simpler. *As of writing this, Lid's been open less than two months. I'm sure they're still working out some kinks, but as of right now, they're okay and I will probably stop in on occasion. read more

Lidl opened yesterday in Catonsville, so I decided to go by and see what they have. I must say that I love their produce and meats. Great selections, good prices. They also have a bakery with a decent selection of doughnuts, cookies and breads, and cheese too. I saw a little bit of everything. I am not going to gush too much because I need to see how those prices look after the newness has worn off. But for now, I am happy. FYI bring your own bags, or you will have to purchase them. Ok, so I've lived in Europe and have been fortunate to shop in both Aldi and Lidl during my time there. That said, I am a huge fan of Lidl in America! Compared to any of the grocery store competitors, everything in the produce aisle is worth buying! I've had it last for over a week, which is a good thing! There is a lovely fresh bakery that we really like getting a bread and pastries from. Great selections of meat, cheese, pizzas galore and all the food you need to make it through the week with. The store is neat and clean. Our family of two and sometimes grandsons during the week, we generally can get by with less than 75 dollars. That's a rarity at most of the nearby stores when at least 100$ seems to be the threshold. They do have some brands, but for the most part, the private brand works very well for us. They have a fantastic guarantee on it if you don't care for it. They have an app that can save you even more money and I have gotten a 5$ coupon upon payment for the next week. More savings makes me even more happy.....Lidl is a huge winner in my book! read more

Very reasonably priced grocery store. Lots of items you wouldn't find in other stores. The bagged salads were all just about heading out the door (brown and spoiled) but everything was okay. There was a nice selection of plant based "meats" and protein products. Outside of beyond burgers I noticed at least 2 other brands of plant based products. There's also a pretty big selection of fresh salmon and frozen seafood. Again, quite a few items I've never seen before. I'm adding Lidi to my weekly grocery store rotation! read more

I have been grocery shopping from Lidle most of time. They have all good stuffs but their employees exceptional they are rudest and untrained,feel like Asian haters. If they not retraining their employees how to services and respect guests that time their store closing business. read more

Shopping for really good food is hard. I went to a very highly, restricted food and remarkably I am able to create variety of delicious food in a very limited ingredients. I was quite surprise has most of the ingredients I need in order to eat well and they are price affordably! I mostly shop at Whole Foods, Amazon, and Giant, sometimes Wegmans but they cant beat Liddle stock. Lidl is actually better than Aldi. I would certainly frequent in Liddle than Traders Joes. read more

They sometimes follow you around the store thinking you're going to steal from them. They try to be inconspicuous, but do a poor job at it. Fire the manager. Hope other minorities have a better experience. I won't be returning. Going back to Wegmans or Aldi. Store was empty, too. So this was my first time here. I drove here all the way from Owings Mills because I decided that I was NOT going to stand in line to get into the grocery store. This store reminded me of an Upscale Aldi. You didn't have to pay for a cart and there was no line. This store was SUPER clean and they had a nice Bakery department. The only thing that was a major disappointment to me was that there was no fresh seafood department.I need and LOVE Seafood. It's not a deal breaker I would still go back. So since the Coronavirus pandemic the line situation at the store is interesting, especially with the six feet away. Since this was my first time here I was kind of confused on how everything was going. I was standing in line but line #5 was red instead of green. I asked the guy was he open or closed because I didn't want to waste my good old saturday morning just standing around. He said that he was jumping on the register to help bring the line down and that he would be happy to help me. He was pretty amazing. His name is Andre by the way and he was very personable. He explained to me how every thing worked. He even spoke about his personal life a little bit. He was also patient with me because he allowed me to download the app so I could save $5. Let me start by saying I like Lidl a lot. I got to know the store in Berlin and it was fun to browse and get introduced to interesting foods. Regularly relied on their bakery for inexpensive breakfasts while traveling. Stopped by this store on a whim with the after-work crowd. The store was pretty busy. Picked up one item to purchase and approached the checkout. Disappointed to see that there were only two lanes open so I proceeded to self-checkout. They have four terminals but only one was operational for whatever reason. The customer in front of me needed assistance but there was no one overseeing the self-check. After about a minute, the cashier from the nearest lane came over to assist. Really? No one dedicated? Lidl, your customers deserve better. read more

Overall not bad. This store feels like a bigger ALDI with a mix of their store brand and name brand items. I thought the fresh bakery was a nice idea, but I had to ignore the thought that not everyone is as hygienic as myself and so I'm sure individuals may use their hands instead of the wax paper or plastic glove. DO NOT WORK HERE IF YOU VALUE YOUR SANITY! Most of management is horrible and i wasn't treated fairly. A couple managers there were also nasty towards the customers. There were managers that were very good to me and helpful, they trained me well. But the bad outweighed the good, causing me to quit and im not even a quitter! I loved the actual work i did at Lidl, I like the way things are done, but i just couldn't deal with the nasty attitudes and the way i was being talked to there. Im big on respect so that was a no go for me. Other than that the customers are always nice and so is the environment. The pay isn't good enough for the amount of work i was doing but it is a pretty decent job if your managers don't suck. read more

We have now done our grocery shopping at the Catonsville Lidl several times. This store definitely has changed since opening day. When they opened they had the most delicious baked goods that were baked in the store - now the baked goods taste like they are trucked in. The produce displays are no longer pretty like a stock photo shoot. We have also tried a number of the store brand cereals, chips and pasta sauces and they are not particularly good. They aren't bad they just aren't delicious. There is still a lot to like about this store but I would avoid the bakery and some of the store brand cereal, chips, and pasta sauce. However some of the other store brand stuff is delicious. Overall this store is very hit and miss. I hope that they get things ironed out because I would love for this store to succeed here. The wide open aisles are the best for shopping in 2020 circumstances. read more

I visited this Lidl twice and am absolutely floored by the low prices and large selection. I had every intention on spending 200.00 worth but the first visit was 50.00 and the second visit was 80.00. It's very eye pleasing aswell. The produce is arranged to perfection as if they had a supermarket stager arrange the items to be eye catching and the prices absolutely donot disappoint ! I plan on visiting this location often. I just wonder what will become of store's like Giant and Wegmans because every store like Lidl is where you save Big TIme! read more

I think I have stopped at this Lidl for the last time. It is incredibly frustrating to shop here and then get into a cashier line 6 or 8 people long. They need to hire more staff, and keep the cashier lines open instead of shutting them down when they lines are down to 1 or 2 each. They seem to think that 4 or 6 people in a line is optimum. I wrote a whole lot more and Yelp seems to have lost it. Oh well. Even their website is bad. You used to have to open an account in order to see your local ad. Which was like 32 pages long. Hard to read but at least you knew if they had something you were interested in. Now you can see your local ad without joining, but it is 2 pages long. Huh? They have listings of products, but not of their periodic specials, which is what you really want to see, because if you shop there, you know what merchandise they have on the shelf all the time. Depressing store, bad customer relationships since you have to join their stuff to get special sales prices. Shelves often half empty. Plants dried out and dying. People have written that the produce section is good - they must never have shopped in the incredible Asian markets along the same strip. You can get a couple of cheap loss leaders at Lidl but the rest is usually pretty mediocre. Handicapped parking around the corner in the parking lot, in front of a different store. None out front of the Lidl. Huh? There just does not seem to be anything in the store that makes it worthwhile to have to put up with the incredible lack of customer facing skills this store seems to have. If you want their sale price you have to download their app to your phone. Not worth the aggravation except in an emergency. read more

In the past week I've been to this newer bigger version of Aldi's three times. It definitely has Aldi vibes but it's a little bigger (depending on which one you frequent) and they do have a fresh bakery where you can get some yummy baked cookies and pastries. Fresh & organic fruit and veggies were in abundance. My first trip I was able to get fresh chicken but I think the word got out and on my subsequent visits there wasn't any left. A decent variety of products with a German & European flair is weaved throughout. I was impressed as I saw staff in the store sanitizing while customers shopped, everyone is trying during this unprecedented time. Prices are good, selection constrained, staff can't wait for you to leave. At checkout, my items are carelessly tossed into a cart, leaving me to scramble to bag them, all the while having to endure rolling eyes and heavy sighs from the obviously less than grateful young lady at the scanner. Yikes! I have never seen a more disorganized supermarket. Maybe it's just this location, but I swear, the place has the same general vibe as Ollie's Discount Outlet. I always shop the perimeter of the store, and in most stores that area contains the same stuff. Here, I could get no sense of the organization of the place, with refrigerated cases of made scattered among cases of produce, dairy products sort of splattered across the entire rear wall of the place, and a couple of spots where things just seem to have materialized because there was no place else to put them. Honestly, who designs a supermarket layout in which a customer can be walking down an aisle looking at foodstuffs such as fruit, and suddenly find himself in an isle of children's clothing and cheap shoes? I did find some interesting bargains there, in general I don't think I'll be back to the place because it is not worth the aggravation of having no idea where to look for any particular item. read more

Not impressed. Today was my first visit. I read other reviews who compared Aldi to LIDL. Yeah, you pay a quarter for a cart but you Get it back! I felt bad when I saw a young man getting carts that were left on lot... one cart got away and flew down the small hill....yikes!!! There were only 2 checkout lanes open and 2 self checkout lanes available. The prices were ok. I chose to visit several stores on Baltimore National Pike today. You don't have to be a doctor to understand that not all disabilities or medical conditions are physically visible. I had major abdominal surgery prior to my visit to this store and acquired a motorized grocery cart. I had only been in the store for less than 10 minutes when an employee decided to block me saying that the carts were reserved for elderly customers. I hadn't observed any other customers requesting for the cart, it wasn't in use. I never use those carts, i wasn't being disorderly. So she really just wanted to throw her weight around on a stupid retail power trip. It is really redundant to have to explain myself for why she was in the wrong and how it's not always a luxury to have someone to go shopping for me if i'm disabled. And if two disabled persons were to enter the store needing a motorized cart, what would warrant that employee to believe they could gatekeep on who is "more" entitled to use it. It's the store's problem for not having enough motor carts, not mine! Do they not train their staff to know this common sense. Stop doing this to people. Take it up with your employer not the customer. read more

Overall not a bad store. But checkout is very frustrating. They have 7 full service checkout lanes plus another 4 self service. I have never seen more than 2 lanes open at any time. Lines often stretch out to the middle of the store. But they just usually keep 2 lanes open. Why? read more

I normally shop at Aldi, but was glad to discover the Lidl. It's like a slightly larger Aldi, with similar products. They have a bakery which Aldi doesn't have. However, Lidl is pretty much always out of their sale items, sometimes on the first day of the sale! They're not just out of a few sale item, they're out of pretty much all the sale items I want, every week. It's really annoying. I'd give them 5 stars if they'd just have a decent stock of their sale items, as their prices are good and so are their products. read more

I've been in this store on 4 different occasions since it was opened. The packaged bread, English muffins, hot dog buns, crackers and pretzels were extremely stale. Most of the veggies were brown, soft and wilted. Melons were rotten when I cut inside of them. I purchased packaged organic spinach and arugula. Both went bad within 2 days. I've purchased the salmon which had a fishy smell and tasted bad. There are normal things you will not find in this store - no hot chocolate, no tortillas, no frozen vegetables in the freezer case. The quality is not good. If you enjoy shopping with birds flying around in the store, feel free to come to Lidl on 40 West. read more
