I order flowers once a month for pick up from this location and spend a considerable amount of money. Last month I changed my pick up day to a day or two later, and I know the flowers were left out from the fridge to wilt and dry, instead of caring to preserve or get me fresh ones. They were dry and falling apart by the time I started preparing them when I got home 30 mins after. This month I picked them up on time but when I got them home some stems were broken, other buds were missing completely as if they were plucked off the stem. So I didn't even get a full dozen. Insane. I called the store to let them know. The guy in charge of that section seemed pretty nonchalant. Offered a refund or replacement, and then he didn't. The attitude of laziness seems to be franchise wide, bc it's not just this store. Very unfortunate bc I went out of my way just to come to this location. Maybe Whole Foods will have better inventory and better service..... read more

Safeway - Grocery Near Me - Baltimore, Maryland

I am convinced that Albertson's is just letting this store go to ruin. I've lost count of the number of times they've had to replace the entire "fleet" of shopping carts. One of the auto-opening front entry doors here has been inoperable for several weeks. Refrigerated cases are sometimes missing their door handles. This morning I noticed a 2 sided display of Pringles with different prices on the two sides. And in the past weeks, the store fixtures seem to have been moved farther apart, creating more aisle space, but less space for merchandise. And after several genuinely unsatisfactory purchases, I will never again buy store-cooked chicken at this location. read more

Tonight I went to Safeway to grab a few things. I only go there when I don't have time to spare; today was a prime example of why not to go there. I picked up three things: tuna, crackers and some "Kind Kids Bars" that were on sale for $3.99. Got home and started eating one if the Kind Kids Bars. The first bite was really hard. I didn't take another bite but instead decided to check the expiration date. Today is Oct. 24, 2025. They expired in January of this year. That's ten months ago. Even worse it's a product that emphasizes it's for kids. Shame on you. read more

This Safeway must hate their customers. They have damaged and expired products on their shelves, they lock the main entrance at 6:30 pm and force customers to walk a long way to get in or out of the store (dangerous and illegal), and provide lip service to correcting issues. I have seen and been told by corporate that "this is unacceptable and will be corrected quickly". Since the expired and damaged food problem has been going on for years, and the doors being locked is approaching a year, I believe that there is no intention of doing anything. Giant, ALDI and Lidl can thank this Safeway for increasing their customer bases. The only thing keeping this store from going bust is the location. read more

This the most convenient store for me on the way home. The store has great deals and I love the Safeway app for saving money. I also like that this location has a gas station. On the negative the produce is very limited and usually not in good shape. The service in said produce section is helpful but it normally ends with 'we don't have that'. Additionally the check out is always a mess: barely any cashiers and they are almost always on their cell phone?!? This drives me insane, they put my check-out on hold to talk on the phone or a co-worker after I have stood in line forever! On the positive the seafood is fresh and the person behind the counter is very insightful. The store is clean and they have a large selection. I also feel that the value at Safeway is pretty decent! read more

Came here for items that were on sale. I am quite frugal when grocery shopping and compare weekly circulars like it's nobody's business. Safeway was once a staple in shopping for me, but l only shop here when there are enough sale items to justify the visit. This location on Rt. 40 West is always well stocked with the items I come for, but in the instance they don't have it, I have no issues getting a raincheck from the customer service desk. They are also a market that has a loyalty program, which is worth signing up.as most of their sale items require a loyalty card to get the discount price. Overall, I enjoy shopping here and will continue in the future. read more

This store has a few great employees. However, the overall service is horrible, and things that shows as available online are typically not available as employees tend to not pack things out in time. As someone who lives very close in the neighborhood, I can attest that they are known for closing their doors early and leaving customers outside waiting. 15-20 minutes of early is a very common practice. The lines are usually very long, including self-checkout. It takes way longer than normal to simply obtain any goods. Often time employees have an unwelcoming disposition, and it seems more of a bother to get help. Be wary of the security guard who tries to flex his muscle of shoppers especially when closing early. He has threatened so many customers with physical and deadly force, he meets customers with such unprofessionalism and will often yell "call corporate" as if he is implying, his actions are justified. This store would benefit from leadership that can make adjustment to improve the customer experience. In turn, I think they will notice increase in sales and revenue as well. read more

Very standard, nothing special but nothing really wrong with it. This isn't my preferred grocer, but they have Amazon lockers and when I have to pick up packages I do shop here. Which is exactly why stores have Amazon lockers, so win for them.... Selection is moderate. Last time I got home with some carrots that were expired, but I couldn't be bothered returning them. Check-out lines aren't too bad (typically during evening rush). Parking lot is a disaster - stalls are unusually narrow making it hard to maneuver. But, we all make do. read more

if i could give zero stars you would have it. i am ptfo over my order not being delivered after the manager stated it would be redelivered. wtf knew door dash or uber would deliver my items. i also have instructions on how to find me and still i don't have my order. i will not ever buy anything else from this damn store and i will not suggest it to anyone. your prices too high anyway. i'd rather go to walmart!!! read more

Todays service was not the best but had to leave my review. My first stop was seafood and I will say this gentleman that helped me in seafood was absolutely the best. He was patient with me and he was very helpful. However, once I went to checkout the gentleman that was handling self checkout was nasty and rude. He treated me like I was bothering him when I even told him it was my fault I didn't read the label correctly. My register went off a few more times because I scanned something incorrectly so of course the register will as for help from a associate. Again he came over with a terrible attitude. I said thank you and he just walked away. I'm not for confrontation so I ended up calling the manager and spoke with him. Mr. Lee was helpful and straight forward and I'm glad I was able to voice my concern and the issues I had. He did accommodate me which was very nice and I do appreciate that. Mr. Lee and the seafood guy (I didn't catch his name) wonderful service read more

Generally I try to avoid this Safeway like the plague. However my love for thrift overcomes me, and $5 Friday, almost always wins! Curse my nifty thrifty nature!! My frugal fanatical ways! Okay y'all get it! HA!!! Pretty easy to locate off of Route 40, in the shopping center next to the Sam's. Parking is pretty decent, whenever you go. Pros: Look, if you sign up for the just for u program, you save so much money. Sometimes, I forget that I signed up to save certain percentages and leave spending less than what was in my budget (go Brooke go!)! Can you say bouquet of flowers? Boom! Cons: There are generally not enough staff manning the lines, I swear there are ALWAYS only two lines open no matter how many people are in the store. It sucks, they suck. They need to do better, I believe the self serve lines have helped...not much though. I also have found that they have limited merchandise, the shelves seem to frequently appear to be empty. Sometimes, they only have one of each thing But, get this, I learned that they do this to assist with their theft problem; (wowza) therefore, if you need additional items, check with customer service. Seriously, y'all stealing Dove bar soap? Oh okay. I haven't had the problems that others have experienced with staff. They have always been helpful, I mean hey, they do get my soap..... If I wasn't such a Cheapy McCheaperson I would never come back but dammit I am. So what. read more

This place is outrageous rude staff never more then two registers open. They do now have self checkout but that's only good if you're buying a couple of things if you have more then one shopping bag full be prepared to wait at least twenty minutes. And when you do check out be prepared for the nastiest most rude people ever. They do talk, just not to you. Usually to the other cashier or some random employee not doing their job. They also wouldn't let this lady buy two cart fills of soda that were on sale because "other people need soda too" even though there was no limit on the coupon she had. Sorry that's false advertising and illegal. We live in America. This is capitalism. The other people who needed soda should have gotten there sooner. I won't be returning even though it was my go to grocery store because of the Safeway fuel perks and convenience. DO NOT GO HERE!!!! read more

This is the worst Safeway I've ever been to. The staff is always rude and the lines are always ridiculous. What gets this bad review is that I was just there and they had 1 line open 20 people deep, and 1 self check out. It's a pandemic and they should have people moving through quickly. This was the worst experience I've ever had getting groceries. 1 cashier? Really?!?! And no one was social distancing. I usually go to Giant and today I remembered why. Shame on the management! Disgusting, dangerous, and unsafe business practice. I will never go back. I feel like I was just traumatized. read more

My purpose in writing this review is to complement an employee that, I believe, represents Safeway well. I am a regular customer at the Safeway located on the corner of Ingleside and Baltimore National Pike. I always go to the "self checkout" and almost always see Ms. Sonia monitoring the activity and often assisting customers when necessary. Many times, she helps the customer, prior to their asking, after noticing that a customer is having some difficulty. She has assisted me as well and I greatly appreciate it. Amazing customer service is quickly becoming rare...especially since the start of the COVID Pandemic. She is a lovely lady...customer oriented, attentive, calm and friendly. She makes shopping at this store such a pleasure. Her smile and quick assistance has made shopping stress free and pleasant. I do most of my shopping after a stressful and long day at work and always leave the store with a smile on my face thanks to her very warm and easygoing demeanor. I highly respect and appreciate Me. Sonia and commend Safeway for recognizing and hiring such an exceptional employee. I guess there are no words to fully express my thoughts. I just hope that Safeway corporate management understands that they have a lovely diamond in that pile of glass. I'm sure that there may be other employees but, Ms. Sonia stands out. Safeway is awesome in my opinion!!! read more

Safeway has that old vibe feeling. Safeway has not changed the grocery experience to compete with Wegman's, Whole Foods, or Harris Teeter. It is time to modernize the place so keep customers loyal. read more

I am pleased to notice continual improvements at this store. Keep up the good work.

If I could give zero stars, I would. I LOVE Safeway. In my town I visit frequently. When my boyfriend moved to the area we were excited to have one so close. This place is horrible. They don't have enough people working I guess because there is never more than TWO lanes open. So be prepared to wait. What's that? You'll just use a self check out? Too bad buddy. They don't have any. Occasionally if you're lucky the very nice manager will take you over at customer service. It's beyond ridiculous. Also, they are rude! I ordered a cake for my boyfriend's father. They didn't take any special requests. I could just say if it was for "a dude or girl" that gave them the chance to use green instead of pink! Yay. When I came to pick it up at 6pm, like I told them, the "cake lady was gone and I would have to come back tomorrow". No one would go back for me! So I marched myself back behind the counter where I saw it sitting. I don't complain often but this place makes me want to shout it from the rooftops. I am disgusted by being an avid Safeway shopper that they would let one of their establishments come to this. Good luck Catonsville. I'll be at Giant. read more

This store sucks! There are like 11 registers but I have never seen more than 2 open at a time - no matter how many god damned people are in line! If you can't afford to hire cashiers, put in automated ones like at Shoppers down the road!!! I mean the food selection and quality is by far the best in the West Baltimore area, but its just not worth dealing with the shitty checkout procedure. Seriously EVERY time its like 20 minute wait, no matter what time you go to... read more

Well, I thought I'd never return to this store, but I had to, and I thought it was a little better. But not today! OMG the line for even the self checkout was down the isle! Don't go to Safeway after work long lines and three cashiers. What is wrong with this store don't they know the average person will go to the grocery store after work and pick up a couple of items for dinner. Two lines is ridiculous I assume this store is two cheap to hire new employees or they refuse to pay their current workers overtime. Anyway you look you'll be standing in a line if you go to the grocery store or out to dinner at a restaurant. read more

This is about the gas station. It's great that this Safeway can provide gas at such competitive pricing, but gas station cashiers, almost all of them has such nasty attitudes unless dumb as donkey. Then what annoys me the most is, trying to get receipt after fuel purchases, every time. Pump is always out of receipt papers, & takes cashiers 10 minutes or more to print duplicates. Please keep receipt paper rolls fed in the pumps. read more

This place could be barely passable, but instead this location is the absolute WORST EVER. guaranteed to provide you with THE WORST EVER shopping experience. The main reason for that WORST EVER experience is very basic. They (This Safeway's ownership) refuse to have more than one cashier at all times... during holiday's, in the morning, before snowstorms, during games, at 11pm = 1 Cashier MAX. For a longtime, this Safeway has been deficient, and defiantly so, and, as an additional insulting measure, seemed to refuse to add self-checkouts for years... Talk about vindictive and contemptuous of your customers. In light of all of this, I made a quick stop for one item for a work party at 9:30 am. Now, they have 4 self checkouts but THEY'RE ALL OUT OF SERVICE. Insult to injury... GTFOH! Please go anywhere else- The ban is back on this hellhole. Mark you, I stopped at even the most broken down gas station convenience stores in order to not have to go in here, so it was my last option. F*** THIS PLACE TO HELL. read more

That must mean they got rid of someone who objected to selling it. read more

I would not have came in here but i didn't feel like going to a different grocery store just for a couple of packs of turkey gravy (i know,i know i should make my own gravy...) The store was clean. Got 2 bagels for $1, a raspberry ring cake (kinda looks like pound cake) for $2.99 and my gravy was buy 2 get 1 free so i guess i got an okay deal but when it came to check out i was reminded why i don't shop here. One lane open,2 self checkouts available. The register's printer was not working so needless to say i was in line for a good 15 mins when there was only one person ahead of me. I would've used self checkout but my member card # never works & its not worth it to get another one so i needed my cashier's complimentary card. Hate this store. Lines are always long. Food isn't fresh most of the time. I have yet to come put of there with a careful of savings.

This store is always crowded with not enough people working the registers no matter what day or time I come in. On average it's usually two registers out of 7 open and then self checkout. For an example today it was one register with a long line and another with a long line then 3 out of 4 self checkouts open which also had their own lines going as far back as the aisles. I didn't realize the line I was in was "15 items or less" I just knew it was either that line or the other longer ones. As soon as I reached to put my first item on the belt, the cashier asked if if had 15 items or less. I had to get out that line and get into another one. This will be my last visit read more

The attitudes of some of the employees suck...they need to be educated on good customer service...

The other reviewer is spot-on - I have not yet been to this Safeway when there were more than two lanes open, always with a line. A trip that takes me five minutes from the front doors to the check out line becomes a half hour waiting to be shuffled through with my bags. I'm not forgiving on this point because the store itself isn't short-staffed. Restocking will be taking place along the aisles simultaneously. Either the management isn't present at the front to call more staff to check customers out, or they have a terrible system in place for the division of labor, but it's never not been a problem when I've visited. I visit at different times, as well, because it is convenient to the gym and located along route 40, even if it is outside of the city. The selection at Safeway is better as a general rule than it is at other local chain supermarkets, and often the produce isn't riddled with brown spots and cuts. Not every time, but often. A big reason why I shop here is because of the gas station in front - it's relatively cheap gas with the Safeway club card, and you generate points toward money off your gas by shopping at the grocery store. It's a common system, but the station immediately out front makes it easy and minimizes the amount of thought I have to put into something menial and continually disappointing like grabbing gas. read more

Totally agree with previous posts. This Safeway store employees are not people friendly. They do not care about long lines, greeting customers or being friendly. I hear customers complaining about this store all the time. I only go there when I absolutely have no other choice, so it is not that often like maybe once or twice a year. I am a Catonsville resident and can't believe that the Association has not looked into the problems with Safeway. Very disappointed in this community business. I stopped in the Safeway on Route 40 (5660 Baltimore National Pike) in Catonsville on Friday, April 6, 2018 in the early afternoon to provide an official letter from the school and PTA asking for donations for an area elementary school that would help with Teacher Appreciation Week, 5th grade Farewell Ceremony for the students and Muffins with Mom. I was told by a lady there (in a gray-colored uniform shirt) who did not even take a moment to actually stop and speak directly to me that the store is not accepting any more donation requests. Keep in mind that another PTA member was told a few weeks back in March to come back in April to submit the donation request. We did as asked, but they did not follow through. I asked when will they accept donation requests, and she said "maybe June or July". How can they accept donation requests in June or July when schools will be closing/closed and school activities winding down or already completed? Other area grocery stores have been very accomodating and provided great customer service. Those grocery stores will receive my business. However, this Safeway will not, and word spreads fast among parents about which businesses to patronize. I have shopped in this Safeway before, only to wait in long lines with a minimum number of registers opened. Safeway needs to ensure that they provide quality customer service, but, unfortunately, it was definitely not the case for me. read more

This place has gotten SLIGHTLY better with a small remodel. The self serve lanes have made a dint in the wait time, but the staff is almost always rude and never know where things are located when asked. I had to end up calling a friend to ask where she found something, because no one in the store knew what they were talking about, OR more likely, just didn't feel like being helpful. read more

I love the savings here but last week I had to return watermelon if a customer calls you up and say the watermelon is sour no good and I say to you I'm on my way back to store to return in why in the world would you offer me another bowl of watermelon, common sense says take all that mess and dump it, your not giving people fresh fruit stop cheating people out of thier money. I give the produce department an F please get it together. Oh and stop having like 30 people waiting to rung up and two lines open. Since it won't let me post again, 2/27/17 PSA: I'm officially done with Safeway on Rt 40 I'm not going to be an ass for a sale anymore, watermelon was sour, chicken last week and now my milk I only had a week, I will now go to shoppers for groceries, so pissed wasted a whole bowl of cereal due to spoiled milk, the food not fresh and the service is a mess tons of people and two registers open, and the manager gonna ask me when I took the chicken back did I refrigerate it right away, yes I did and my refrigerator works fine, gtfoh read more
