Everyone has their favorite grocery store. Anyone close enough to me knows that Lidl is mine. Everyone has their favorite grocery store location. Columbia is not mine, lol. Let me explain why... I happened to have dined in the Columbia area and decided to knock out my grocery store shopping before going home. I remembered seeing that there was a Lidl nearby. Let me just tell you right now that using GPS to find this market was interesting. It's in the back end of the mall (I think?!)- it seemed to be on the opposite side of everything else. Lol. Anyhoo...it was around 9am when I arrived, so it was still fairly quiet. Then disappointment started outside when I had to grab one of those huge, bulky shopping carts! Most Lidl's in the area apparently got rid of the small carts for whatever reason. I went inside and started with the produce section on the left. This layout reminds me of the Timonium location, but with a slight downgrade. That section is so tight! I kept bumping into other customers with that big, clunky cart. It took a bit of time to sift through the fruits and veggies because they honestly weren't the freshest. I picked a bag of peaches and discovered that one of them was mushy (included a picture). One of the green peppers in my pepper pack had mold growing at the stem. I didn't notice that until I got home. And one very sad zucchini was literally melting in the box with the other zucchini. It seemed that someone put it on top so that a worker could see it. They also seemed to be quite short staffed. There was initially one cashier open. When the line started to become backed up, another cashier opened his line briefly. They didn't have self-checkout, which was disappointing. There no reason for me to visit this location again. Nothing spectacular stood out about it & the things worth noting weren't very good. There just seems to be an all around lack of care and as a paying customer, that's just unacceptable. read more

I decided to try out Lidl since I was in the area and had some time before an appointment. I was pretty impressed with the bakery selection because you could buy by the piece so I bought a few croissants and bagels, they were super fresh. There was lots to see in this store and for some items there had good prices compared to other main stores. There is a section with gadgets and tools, and household items, but is looked like a hurricane hit it. I did find some cool flasks with shot glasses and definitely scored some bargains on meat products and vegetables. Definitely worth being on the shopping trail. The checkout guy was efficient and really happy, nice to see such good customer service. read more

This place is great. Everything is very cheap. My mom told me that she shops here a lot than other places. The food is very fresh all the time. I spend only $100 bucks here. I recommend you sho here. The only thing is that you have downloaded the apps before you shop here or you don't get the sale price. read more

Representing 2024 in alphabet series, L is for Lidl. I had been to Lidl by Columbia Mall multiple times especially in 2024 & 2025. Unfortunately, the grocery stores near me are weak for various reasons. Not a fan of Shoppers. Target isn't so good for groceries. Wal-Mart has variety but is a pain too and has often overcharged me. Aldi is the best near me with low prices, but they don't have everything I need so I go to Aldi depending on what I'm going for. Lidl has the low prices of Aldi although not quite as low, but lower than traditional grocery stores. However, Lidl has more variety than Aldi. Lidl may not have everything, but I can do pretty well here, and I'm not breaking the bank either. I just spent $159 at Wal-Mart mostly on my groceries, granted one Christmas gift, but a small percent. Lidl is clean, nicely laid out. Cashiers are generally friendly. Whenever I'm in Columbia like after a movie at AMC Columbia, I considered Lidl as an option on the way home. read more

11.23.22 My family was in town from Florida and wanted to stop by while we were at the mall. My sister-in-law is German and has never been to Lidl so she was like a kid in a candy store. She was so excited and wanted to look at everything. We came in to get stuff for a charcuterie board for Thanksgiving, but got many more things. $150 worth of groceries. She wanted to get more stuff to take home, but was worried about her luggage so I offered to buy her stuff to take to her when we see each other in the summer. IMO, Lidl has more name brand merchandise than Aldi's, but very similar merchandise and store layout. I love the convenience of having the store at the mall to run all your errands in a centralized location. read more

I like the convenience of having a little grocery store right at the mall but you have to be very vigilant when buying fresh food. Just a few of the things that have happened to me: - Saw multiple packages of bacon where the vacuum seal was broken. Like there must have been a puncture because the plastic was loose, not tightly sealed like bacon should be. - Got to the register with a bag of mini bell peppers. The cashier saw that there were some in the bag that were moldy. - I bought a bag of russet potatoes. The plastic bag was printed so I couldn't see inside. When I got home, all of the potatoes had started to sprout. Normally I would trim them and move on, but I was planning to make potato skins and you can't really have a bunch of holes in that. I often shop at other discount grocery stores and non-discount stores, but I've never had so many incidents of rotting food like I have at this store. read more

I love this grocery store but today I had the nastiest, full of attitude checker. No hello, no thank you, just sullen and glowering. Someone needs to train their checkers in good customer service. She was awful! People behind me were rolling their eyes and shaking their heads. read more

When this location opened, I used to love it. I watched Lidl's prices increase tremendously and the quality/presentation go down. I love the store but the variety of choices seem to be stagnant. A bottle of canola oil is $5.69 now. The meat choices used to be plentiful but I find this location always has empty shelves. Maybe understaffed. Be sure to read the bread "use or sell by date". If you're looking for frozen spinach, you won't find any frozen green veggies except for peas and broccoli and oh yeah plenty of frozen corn. Bring your bags and brush up on your grocery packing skills. You don't have a lot of belt space at this location. If you don't hurry, someone else will be eyeing you to move faster. I guess lidl is doing the old bait and switch, luring customers in with a low price, in this case 99 cent a pound whole chicken, and then filling up the display case with nothing but boneless skinless chicken breasts. When I questioned someone in the store, they told me upper management had chosen a new supplier and they didn't know when the advertised chicken would be back in stock. They do have a lot of chicken breasts nobody wants, though. Today was the last time I will shop at Lidl. read more

first almost 2 years was beautiful. It was well It was kept workers that actually within the last place has gone downhill. There's no food on the shelves. The shelves are dirty. You can barely find what you need. The store is not kept as clean as it once was and it's sad because it hasn't even been open for three years this needs to be fixed to go into a market and not find anything that you need on the shelves is unacceptable read more

Lidl is here in Columbia! Conveniently located in Columbia Mall. I happened to see a large truck promoting the opening of the store. I was so excited to see a new location I forgot to check in!! Very reasonably priced items. A wide variety of veggies, meats, beyond meat, German snacks, A bakery etc. very clean store with happy employees standing outside. My husband and I checked out this location on what turned out to be the day of their grand opening. The store is large and spacious. It is laid out much like other Lidl locations that we have visited. If you keep in mind the fact that you are almost certainly not going to be able to completely replace a trip to your standard grocery store by shopping here, it does have a lot to offer. They have a nice selection of store brands, as well as national brands. While the prices on many things are incredibly affordable and competitive, some other items do not offer much of a discount at all. If you shop here you must keep in mind that it is not a traditional grocery store. You are likely to encounter grocery items on one side of the aisle and household items or even tools on the other side. That is just part of why you can get a good deal on so many things. The staff at this location was very courteous and professional and, despite it being the first day of operations at this location, they seem to be well trained and did a good job. This location is not the closest to us, so we will likely not visit regularly, but it is definitely a nice location and will prove very convenient to those in the area.. read more

This new Lidl Grocery Store is a welcome addition to The Mall in Columbia, Maryland. I stopped in here a few weeks ago, it was very shortly after this brand new store opened. The did a fantastic job of remodeling the old Sears store location for this new use. I have been shopping at Lidl for a few years now. A great curated selection of essential grocery items. Great prices as well. This is very much needed in The Mall in Columbia. If I still worked full time in this area I could see myself picking up lunch and or dinner items here regularly. I like the prices for many of the items. Everything has been fresh and properly displayed. The store is clean but can be scary when customers get rowdy. I've been in there twice and a customer argument started. It became loud and disruptive. I'd suggest they get armed police officers. I've never seen this at any other market in Columbia. My biggest complaint would be the mute cashiers that don't speak. The cashiers need a course in customer service. I want to be greeted and acknowledged. I always speak but they never respond. I like the prices but the rude employees will keep me from returning. There are too many options in Columbia I can shop at. Management needs to work with the cashiers on greeting customers. read more

Quality food at very reasonable prices, what more can you ask for? From the meats to the produce everything is very appealing. The store is very clean and the employees are pleasant and helpful. They may not stock everything you're looking for, but they are more than adequate when it comes to the essentials of a kitchen and pantry. read more

It's okay, but when I went there the bathrooms were only a one person, and the bathrooms were not very clean. The bathrooms were my main issue because when the guy came out of the bathroom how worked there didn't clean up after himself. It was so gross I decided not to use the bathroom. I am VERY suspicious of the other fantastic reviews about this LIDL store. FIrst of all I gave it two stars because the people who live near this mall deserve a place to shop other than Whole Foods, so that is one star and the other star is to save the life of The Mall in Columbia which is in jeopardy so yay for using this location's real estate. Other than the aforementioned I do not find any of their items worth the price for the low quality. What low quality you say??? Gritty powdered condiments for one. Why should cayenne pepper or dried thyme make your dish gritty if it is a good product? Well it is not so do not bother with their herbs and spices section, ditto their condiments which taste off. Produce is not quality. Even the bagged stuff. BLEH. Purchases bananas and they were black inside when just beginning to ripen. Organic apples tasted like chemicals. WTH? Some brand name items is MORE expensive than when they have a sale at GIant or Safeway. Xmas items such as authentic German strudel is OK because an importm abd makes a good gift. Gift wrap for the holidays is also pretty and a good value, but other than that LIDL is not a good fit for the experienced home cook. Would recommend this location for very basic grocery runs to purchase milk, bread and cereal in a hurry items only. read more

I think this is a good addition to the Columbia Mall. Large department stores aren't doing that well, and lower cost grocery store (instead of Whole Foods) is a good thing to have. My expectations going in here is that it would be like Aldi, and it definitely was. The prices were very competitive. I like the bakery ... it was very good for the price, and had a pretty good number items, such as croissants, muffins, breads, cookies, etc. The main issue I had though was the store seemed untidy. I do not know if it because the people that come here are not putting things back if they don't want it, or the employees aren't tidying up often enough, or maybe a combination of both, but it seemed a little more disorderly than the Aldi's I've been to. It is still a good addition to the mall though. read more

Update: Store Location Catonsville 3-4-2024 approximately noon . No shopping carts anywhere near the entrance or inside the store. Asked one of the associates where I could find a shopping card and was told outside! Asked to speak to a manager. Spoke to a "Lidl associate" that said she was the Manager, she did wear a sweatshirt with Lidl name on it. No name tag and she refused to give me her name. She told me that the shopping carts were in the parking lot and to get one myself. She also suggested that they all could be in use. I started recording our conversation with my IPhone and kept asking the "LidlManager" for a grocery cart. She then took her phone and followed me around inside the store getting right into my face, telling me I better not post any pictures of her on yelp. !! Upon leaving the store there were still no carts near the store entrance. I did however see carts sitting around in the parking lot. read more

Their customer service is usually pretty bad, but today was another level. We bought 3 items that rung up at the wrong price. We returned to show them... rather then giving them at the price they show, they said that they would take down the prices and return our items. The worst was chocolate croissants... they threw them away rather then giving them at the advertised price. Wasteful! Make sure you check your receipt that they are charging you correctly. read more

I want to like the store it's a great location And the people are very friendly. The prices look great but I have been three times and they are always out of sale items. Then right next to The empty shelf are very high price similar named items. Their app has many coupons that rarely seem to apply to items I actually buy. The house brands are a higher quality than ALDI, But Aldi has better produce. The entrance gets very crowded as stocking produce blocks everything during the day. I have been shopping at this location for over a year now, and I probably go every two weeks or so. I have been really happy with the produce, the bakery, frozen foods and refrigerated food. I have had 3 instances of meat that was spoiled - even though it was long before the expiration date. The first time I did not have a receipt and they had to give me a gift card. The second time I was too busy to deal with it and just threw it out. The third time I had saved my receipt and threw the meat in the freezer. I took it back the other day and the cashier seemed really angry. She scanned my items I was purchasing and shoved them really hard down the counter. She issued commands - put your card in, take your card out - it was really embarrassing honestly - like my return ruined her day. I looked at the receipt when I got home and it said "customer changed mind" I get that the wages are low and it must be a stressful job - but I probably won't buy meat there ever again. read more
