Unreliable seafood department. The day before New Year's Eve I reserved 5 of the largest live lobsters in the tank. I was told they were over 3# each and they had received plenty of these the day before. I wanted them steamed for pickup New Year's Eve so Burt took my name and time I wanted to pick them up. Upon arrival New Year's Eve I was handed 5 small ~1# lobsters. Asked Burt why he didn't steam the large 3#+ lobsters that were still in their tank was told they were all reserved and steamed what he had available. Good selection. Prices are usually competitive. Recent changes to implement "loss control" have, however, convinced me to consider grocery delivery via Amazon. The shopping experience is irritating. The doors closest to the lot where I park have been closed to the public. Random bag checks at self-checkout are sometimes performed (as today) by associates who don't even know how to use a scanner. The aisle leading to self-checkout has been partially blocked by cardboard dumps in a clumsy attempt at traffic control. I get it--our festering society has normalized theft to the point that a store is vulnerable. But maybe consider customer loss-control? You're driving away the 90 per cent of us who are honest in an attempt to stop the ten per cent who aren't. And we do have other options. read more

I like this Giant location. It is very ticked in the neighborhood, so unless you know the area, this is not a location that you will just stumble upon. This is a wild west Giant food. I tend to neutrality on this one. We had business in Columbia and decided to stop here so we could get home before dark. The lighting is bright but faint making reading signs hard. The produce section was fresh enough but kind of disorganized. Generally, the rest of the store including meats, frozen goods and canned goods were fine. We requested three cases of water, but the little kid brought the wrong water then ran outside. The manager finally came eventually and solved the problem. So, we ended up leaving at dark. Such a weird experience, it became interesting. Originally started going here because heading to the giant near Home Depot is just annoying. Their parking lot is so full all the time, the Marshalee drive Giant parking lot is much better. It also has its moments, but overall, it's better. The area is a little off the beaten trail but still convenient. The store is the cleanest giant I have been in. They have a decent selection of most items. The deli is usually busy but we have never experienced any of the issues others have mentioned. we typically use the check out electronic thing and go to self check out unless we are buying gift cards. Occasionally the device has had issues and the occasional audit is annoying but understandable. Produce selection is decent. Meat department is terrific. I expected the bread aisle to be at the end of the store (where it was originally) and when it was moved to a center aisle, it is now just weird placement in my opinion. The pharmacy is a bit slow but convenient. The pharmacy app is okay but a little confusing. I wish they had a more straightforward auto refill process. We do recommend using their app for coupons and free stuff but I think they under order items that are free using points and they could do better there. Coupons are helpful to save money as are the points to save a few bucks on shopping trips. Overall, this is a good location, good selection, and good customer service. Happy shopping. read more

Smart move Giant. Institute a new policy about self serve lane that restricts you from using it with 20 items or more with no warning and then have 2 check out lanes. I have been shopping here once a week for over a decade. Not anymore. Trader Joe's is cheaper and has better food. You just lost a life time customer due to poor implementation. I appreciate the close proximity of this Giant Food Store to my house. It's nice to have a grocery store option that's convenient, clean, and well-stocked. I've been to this store about 3 times since we moved and it's a pretty nice, decently sized store. I also like that this store tends to be a little less busier than other surrounding grocery stores in the area. I was able to get most of our groceries at this store, with the exception of meat, pasta, rice, and pancake mix due to the pandemic and stockinh issues. I was surprised to find that I was able to get some frozen vegetables, as well as bread and eggs. I appreciate the effort that Giant is putting toward safety measures during this pandemic, such as shopper limits and one way traffic directives. It's tough to write a review of a grocery store. They have lots of food and related items, and the big ones try to be as trendy as possible to give customers what they want. This Giant is close to us so we do come here a lot, but I would not call it my favorite grocery by any means. I think they aren't quite big enough to have the selection they should. No dry garbanzo beans. No tostadas. No La Yogurt. I get the feeling they're not really trying to capture a certain demographic. Beyond that, yeah, fresh produce, fresh meat, soda, etc., all the things you want in a grocery store can be found in one form or another. But if you use the deli, never opt to have them cut it to pick up later while you shop - other customers will help themselves to it first. read more

If you feel like it's not bad? Then yay! :) This is my go-to place because it's nearby where I live and their prices are competitive and sometimes cheaper than it's competitors. The service there is always great and they usually have everything I need/want when it comes to necessities and most food selections. Costco meets my other, bigger needs. This is the best supermarket in Elkridge. The only other grocer in town that comes to mind is a Super Fresh (which ironically lacks in the freshness department). This Giant is fairly new and very clean. I feel very comfortable with the quality of their produce department. They have a large selection of goods in general, including many items that I don't find at other markets (particularly the Super Fresh I mentioned), such as chicken deli meat, no sugar added juices, and Roberts American products. Yes I like all the choices I can get. They also have dedicated aisles for organic food and international food - which is a bit pricey, but sometimes its just easier buying soy sauce here than hauling it over to Lotte for one measly bottle. The staff is usually friendly. At the very least they are efficient. Like many other Giants, the store contains a Starbucks and a Chevy Chase branch. The store is well stocked, yet not cramped. To sum it up, a coworker of mine calls this grocery store "The Palace." This is new store in a new shopping center. It is very large, clean, and well stocked. The produce is always fresh and the meat and seafood are some of the best in my area (for grocery stores anyway). The parking is more then adequate and the service is good. There are always plenty of cashiers, in addition to the self checkout lines. I've only used the pharmacy once or twice, so I can't comment on it. The only reason I don't shop this store exclusively is because SuperFresh tends to have better sales, so I generally purchase some things there (but I go to the one on Rt 40 when I'm out that way; never the one on Rt 1, it's terrible). But meat, deli meat, and produce I always get at this GIANT. There is a starbucks in this store, along with a salad bar, boston market meal counter (not a BM, just BM meals packaged on shelves) and an olive bar (is that what you call it?). They also have an entire aisle for organic foods, as well as some organic foods sprinkled in on other aisles. This is a nice place to shop and worth driving to if its convenient to you. It a huge step above the SuperFresh off of Rt 1 (and only 10 mins away) and the Food Lion (about 7 mins away) on Waterloo Road. read more

My wife and I got food poisoning from their pre-packaged deli meat from the Deli department. We consumed it 3 hours after purchasing and it was promptly refrigerated right after purchase. I returned it the next day and did not receive any concern from the man at Customer Service. I was hoping for a little more concern from such a serious issue. read more

Oh Giant...if only you weren't so convenient to my house, I'd never step foot in here. Let's talk about the pros of Giant first. Clean, large, has a pharmacy, PNC bank, and a Starbucks. They also generally have ample cashiers available and the store is organized well so I don't waste time here. The prices are reasonable if you mostly stick to what is on sale. Cons: The produce. While everything looks pretty and fresh, everything generally has a 48 hour shelf life at your house so if you don't plan on using the produce in the next day or 2, you might as well just save time and throw it away now. This becomes a bind when you are trying to buy fresh fruit during for the week and your peaches spoil by Wednesday. Note: I am not expecting farmer's market freshness, but the insta-spoil produce from Giant is unacceptable. I'm also not a fan of the deli. They serve Boar's Head, which is vastly overpriced for the quality. 2.5 stars but rounded up only due to convenience. read more

If the prices weren't so high, I'd give it 5 stars. I mean, they even have cup holders on the carts here! This Giant is big, clean, and organized pretty well. It's got a Starbucks and bank inside. Great produce and deli selections. There are lots of check out lines and self checkout too so I never have to wait long here. They also seem much better at bagging...not like Wal-Mart or Food Lion where they just chuck one or two items in each bag. They recently added the little scanner guns! It's really fun. You basically shop with the gun and scan each item and put it into your cart. I have reusable bags so I bag while I shop too. Then you go to the self-checkout and just pay. It saves so much time and you can keep track of how much you're spending as you go along. I definitely try and shop the sales here as the other items are pricier than some of the other stores. read more

LOVE this giant!!!! The produce selection is out of this world!!!! Sundays are pretty crazy tho, I find that they run out of a lot of the produce selection Sunday afternoon's. So make it early, or come super late on the weekends to get the best deals on selection. I shop here once a week. I don't think the prices are bad at all. Some people need to know how to shop: plan a menu, use a shopping list (and stick to it) and take advantage of sales. Another easy way to save money here? Clip coupons! The store will double any coupon under $1. You can also use a store coupon and a manufacturer coupon combined on the same item! If I don't clip coupons, I save $20 on avg with my club card. If I do clip coupons, I save another $20-30 on top of the club card. Pharmacy is a zero. We've been using the Giant Pharmacy almost exclusively for 18 years. The past two years things have really changed. Crazy wait times, some employees have terrible customer service skills and the experience is regularly unpleasant. Today I came in and was told 45 minutes. I explained I was in significant pain and was told they couldn't do anything about the wait time. An hour later I left with my meds. read more

They have everything I need for the family, competitive prices, self scanning guns, and decent parking. The produce is average at best. They seem to go above and beyond to care for their beauty section for some reason but leave the produce section stagnant as far as changes and updates go. The employees at the registers, meat section, and deli are very nice and helpful. What I can't get past is the employees that smoke all over the front of the building from the far left, to the center, to the far right. You walk through a gauntlet of of smoke when multiple employees are there at once. Then all I can think about is them going back in and handling deli or produce. I placed an order for pick up Peapod a few days ago. When I got there I spoke to someone and they said someone would be out shortly. I waited 10 before calling back and the same person answered the phone but pretended that they weren't aware I was waiting. I finally get my order and get home only to realized I have my order and part of someone else's order. I call the store and the person answering said they would have the store manager call me. If i had realized Green Valley (formerly superfresh) was only a couple minutes further away from my house i'd have started going there years ago! Giants prices even with bonus card savings are much higher than Green valley and they don't need sales prices or bonus cards. Just regular every day pricing is better. Also every singe time I go to giant they have stopped selling yet another item i used to regularly get there and there seems to be no rhyme or reason. Today it was gerbers 3rd foods baby dinners that my one year old loves. So if your baby is older than 6 months old but not spoon feeding themselves yet , which is a pretty big jump they no longer have the dinners for your baby??? I wanted to complain to someone but had the baby with me and wanted to get home. I'm so over being dissapointed and paying too much money. read more

It's the closest grocery to my home, the produce area always have a variety of fresh products, I like the convenience of the redbox and Starbucks kiosk. However I had a really bad experience at the customer service desk, from 2 Caucasian females and one was a manager. There was no"customer service on that desk" at all. The Giant off Marshalee Dr. and the Giant off of Centre Park Dr. in Columbia get about 90% of my grocery shopping $$$. Went here recently after having not been in a long time. What a disappointing experience. The shelves were not well stocked, they didn't have the 1 item I really needed (Cocoa powder), produce did not appear to be fresh - the strawberries we got had a few in the middle of the container that were spoiled. Also needed to use the ladies room and it was disgusting. Dirty, paper towels all over the floor, 1 stall out of order and the other one had the huge roll of cheap toilet paper not n the holder but over the hook on the back of the door. The store is wonderful but the Pharmacy is horrible. They can only process one Rx at a time and misplace half of those. SO don't have your Dr send over more than one per day. Also, they say they will auto-fill a refill on a certain date but when you arrive, it's not there and most of the time, they don't even have enough medication to fill it so you get a few pills then have to go back later to get the rest. I am thoroughly fed up with them after making several visits and calls for 3 simple prescriptions recently and have switched pharmacies. It is too bad because I really like the rest of the store and will continue to shop there. read more

The store itself is fine, you have to follow the sales, regular prices seem high. The employees are indifferent to customers at best, especially at the "customer service" desk. I remember an instance years ago where there was some union meeting and the employees were complaining TO CUSTOMERS that they better get out so they can go to the union meeting. I made a "pesky customer" comment to one of them being sarcastic and she just didnt get it. Anyways, the real bummer of this store is the pharmacy. I cant even begin to tell you how much of my life they have wasted. Im finally going to make the effort to switch to a different pharmacy. You call in a refill to the automated line, it says will be ready by a certain time. Of course it isnt ready. The robocall that you get telling you that a prescription is ready is not consistent, and it just generally tells you one is ready for your household. I called one in a week ago, no call saying it was ready, so I drive out there. This is Thursday so they say they have to "redo" it and it will be ready tomorrow. I cant get there tomorrow so they have extra time. Stop in this morning and the grumpy girl at the counter tells me they are working on it...20 minutes. Im done. This is an asthma inhaler, sealed in a box by the manufacturer, they slap a label on and send me on my way. Nope...they waste more of my life. read more
