What happened?? When I moved here six years ago, I really loved this place. That's changed completely, and I won't be shopping here again. I could tolerate the entrance gates, even though they were already a nuisance. But now having to scan your receipt at the self-checkout exit gate just to leave is beyond inconvenient. It feels like customers are being treated with suspicion, and that's a terrible way to do business. To make matters worse, when I spoke up, another customer behind me said, "Get used to it. This was one of the nastiest public restrooms I've seen in a while. I went in to see what they had at the hot bar and had to take my son to the restroom first and boy was it nasty and this made me not want to purchase anything off of the hot bar. I still went to look and all of the food looked old and like it needed to be thrown away. They definitely need to do better with cleanliness. I defiantly will not be back for any reason. read more

This Safeway has a lot going on. I originally stopped in to just pick up an Amazon package from the locker, but then I decided to grab a few items while I was there. I was perusing through the freezer area and there were multiple sections of the freezers where the items were HEAVILY freezer-burnt, which is concerning. I also think this store is quite expensive, and there were several items out of stock to include personal care items. No comment on the service as I interacted with zero employees and used self-checkout. The ambiance was okay - it felt very cluttered and closed in to me, and it also had an odd smell throughout the store that I cannot quite describe. I wouldn't come back, but it's not a worry because I literally will never be back in this area again anyway. read more

I had my 4th online order experience yesterday with this store. To be fair, most times they're on the ball and everything is ready to go when I arrive (I schedule a time in advance). I booked my order like normal and showed up at my scheduled time. The app said my order hadn't even been picked yet. I walked inside to see if maybe it was ready. The store had several upgrades since I was in it last (about a month ago). Turnstiles at the entrance (a little odd), flashy new check out stations, a general refresh of the front area. What hadn't changed? Lack of employees. It was 7PM and they seemed severely short staffed. I waited near the online order area for 15 minutes. No one was around that entire time, so I made my way over to customer service. Guess what? Nobody there either! The only workers I did see were the guy monitoring self checkout and one person in a checkout lane. Odd during such a busy shopping time. Thankfully I was able to cancel my order to pick up the few things myself with the same deals. Still, annoying to give them over 24 hours for an order and it not be ready when scheduled. read more

This store and management continues to go downhill. They have now decided to close and lock the main entrance every day at 6pm. This is incredibly inconvenient to begin with, let alone when trying to get a cart! The main entrance is the only one that has a cart corral, so by the time you get to the other entrance and realize there are no carts there, you have to walk all the way back to the other entrance (if there are even any left). Also, 6pm is when most people are on their way from work! Thats when most people stop on their way home from work. I've shopped at this location for years, but I am not coming back until I've heard there are improvements. I've had enough. I'll go to Aldi or Food Lion before I visit Hanover Safeway again. read more

Went there today June 30, 2025, to purchase a few groceries. I was in the Meat Department and noticed a sign advertising BallPark Franks 2/$5 with jus4u coupon. I downloaded the coupon and picked up 2 packs of Beef Franks as they had those and regular in the same area in the Meat Department. When I rung them up they came to $9.98 which I knew wasn't correct. A young African American man came over to self-checkout to see what the problem was and I explained to him and he asked did I download the coupon and I showed him in my phone. A heavy set black lady came up and wanted to know what the issue was. Once again I explained to her what the problem was and where I picked them up and she was rude and stated it was for the Regular Franks not the Beef. I explained they both were in the same location. She went back to where I got them and took a picture. When she showed me the picture she stated "see the small label showing $4.99." . I told her it was a big yellow sign with black numbers showing 2/$5 and that's what my caught eye.and if they were not supposed to be in that area it wasn't my fault. . She was still rude to me and I walked out. I called headquarters and explained my story to them and they stated they would have someone call me from the store, but you guessed it. I NEVER got a returned call no apology for how the rude black employee was towards me. I will never shop here again and probably stay with Walmart now since this is how they treat their customers. Overall: Will avoid in the future over concerns or refrigeration and lack of service. Selection: We are in a shortage supply so I am taking account for this however this location is very poorly stocked and the layout itself is a little all over the place. You will have to do some hunting for finding all the things you need. Price: This is not a budget place but not a Whole paycheck places either, expect a cart full to run you around $350. Yes, I measure cost based on the cart full, budget places you can fill up for 200 to 275 for example. Parking: Shared lot but always feel like there is parking even if there is a tiny walk. The concern: many (5 plus) fridge sections are barely cold. It's not luke warm but it's absolutely not cold either. Its so concerning I choose not to shop out of many of their open fridge sections. Service: Ever have $378 bucks of groceries at 8:30? Expect to do self checkout. After I realized there was no way I could do a self check out with a almost toppling cart, I asked if they could open a line. About 5 minutes later a lady came up and informed she would do this for me this one time. Additionally though I offered to help bagging, it took 4 requests to use paper. In total to bag and ring out it was almost 15 plus minutes not including wait time. I was told if I wanted full service I needed to come in after 9 pm. Between these things I feel I can't shop here between the safety, lack of selection, and servide. read more

The last few times I have stopped into the store I have had issues with very rude employees. And their policy on the self check out is crazy. This location has about 10 self checkouts and most of the time there is only one regular register open but if you have one more than 15 items in your cart, and you cannot go through the self check out! Today I had 19 items, although it may have looked like more in my cart, the way they were stacked up, and because I had my large, insulated shopping bag, full of other bags in the cart with my items, and the lady would not listen to my explanation and told me I could not use the self check out. I had to go get in the line. There was a very long line for the only register that was open and there were five empty self checkouts. I understand having the policy especially on busy days, but when you only have one register open that has a line of five or six customers with full shopping carts and five empty self check out, I don't think somebody with 19 items is a big deal. I stopped shopping here because of issues with employees not being helpful, being ignored at the deli counter and the bakery. Their prices there are not great unless it's a sale item, so I only stop in if I i'm at the doctors office near there and don't want to go out of my way to pick up one or two items. read more

Came here to pick up some more snacks on my recent trip and some party supplies. We showed up a bit late and wanted to make this as quick of a trip as possible. We first hit the floral department to attempt to get some balloons filled. At first there was no one there in the department but we were quick to find an associate. Even though that associate was not assigned to the floral department he was quick to help us. He came over and started to fill the balloons we needed. He even helped when we had an unfortunate happening with a balloon floating up to the ceiling. He was able to get it down and fill our order. He was very friendly and even had some help come his way which made this experience go two times faster. We next headed towards the greeting card area. Browsed through the area and found the card that we thought was perfect and even went for some wrapping paper. One last thing here was some tape to help us wrap the gift we needed wrapped. We did a little more browsing of the store to make sure we didn't forget anything before we headed for the checkouts. With it being so late in the day a majority of the checkouts were self serve. It was a bit confusing at that point. There was not uniformity to the way the line went. But once you did get to the register it was smooth sailing. read more

Food and availability of lots of products great. You had a very lazy employee tending to the self check out. She was drinking and just standing around and smiling whenever a customer got flustered. I watched her. I asked why there's no cashier. On Break. really. and How much is this lazy employee making per hour? Prices have gone up and you choose to hire fewer employees! SHAME ON YOU FOR Not ensuring that there's always at least one cashier. We shouldn't be doing huge carts of food at these self check out stations. read more

Absolutely atrocious and unprofessional customer service. I ordered drive-up pickup on the app. I checked in and waited 15 minutes before I decided to call to check on my order. The person who answered was incredibly unprofessional, but said they would be right out. A moment later, I got a notification that my order had been picked up, yet nobody had come to my car. I then got a call from the store and was told my order was given to the wrong customer. :/ They said they'd call the other customer to bring it back, so I waited again. After 10 minutes, I called asking if the other customer was on their way back. Again, the associate was unprofessional on the phone. They told me that my order wasn't given away, and they'd be out immediately. I waited again, and when nobody came outside, I decided to go in to see what was happening. When I approached the customer service counter, the individual working the drive-up said my order actually was given away and said they weren't sure the other customer was going to come back. I was extremely frustrated, so I asked for a refund so I could just go pick up the items myself. The employee then proceeded to get on his email and said someone would reply to his email whether or not I could get a refund. I asked why he didn't process it here, and he claimed he didn't have the password. I then asked to speak to a manager who would be able to get the password, but nobody came to help. I eventually got my order, but the whole situation was ridiculous. Mistakes happen, but at least be transparent and answer the phone professionally. read more

Pros: Convenient location Clean interior Polite professional Staff Decent seafood section and Hot bar selections Cons: Dirty exterior Too much derelict presence in front of store On any given day there are multiple people of questionable character loitering directly in front of the entrance to the store asking for money or just congregating The area where the carts are located is also dirty and un appealing. read more

This place has really good deals on meats, good cuts of meat and a good deli to grab food for a quick dinner. However, always make sure to not buy more then 10 items because they don't have cashiers and you will have to use the self checkout. I made the stupid mistake of thinking I could buy a week worth of groceries at this grocery store and ended up looking like a moron using the self checkout because of no cashiers. This was at 10:30am, so it's not like this was during the senior hours. Even Walmart has atleast one cashier at a time. Walmart of all places. read more

This is a nice store . They have a great produce section and lots of drinks . They have a decent meat counter but I wish they had more appetizer type options maybe some jalapeños poppers and stuff like that. My old neighborhood Safeway had lots of goodies I miss but these guys have what u need for a good price . They should add the Chinese food like most Safeway has but at least they do have $5 fried chicken mondays . I'll shop here while I'm in the area . read more

Safeways are not my favorite grocery store but this one is a decent Safeway compared to the others. It's in a nice strip mall and convenient to the apartments nearby. Pros: it has a Starbucks, self check-outs that work, a decent looking deli area with breads and pretty things- not sure how they actually taste. You can get all your basic necessities here. Cons: they do not have hooker red lipstick (for Halloween, guys) and actually have a very limited cosmetic section. read more

I hate going through grocery stores and taking extra time if I'm in a rush because the organization isn't clear. The store was clean for the most part. The products placed nicely on the shelves. Clean and bright store, great looking produce section but I needed stuff from the pharmacy area today. Weird that there isn't another pharmacy in Hanover, but whatever. Nice shop and well organized. There no reason why the lines should be lined up in the isles!!! Each time I've shopped at this store only one line is open for items more than 15. DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE!!! Evidently, in this store, the cashiers are allowed to personally set their own mask mandates. I was just in there, this morning, and I was discriminated against for not wearing a mask by cashier at register #3. When I mentioned to the "what appeared to be" manager, he was not aware of the current mask policy for the store or that this was happening. I mentioned that I will be filling a complaint with corporate and he apologized but a little too late. read more

Bottom Line: Large, clean and well organized store in the Arundel Village plaza. I really have to agree with Yelp Elite Joe J. This is a great Safeway. This large store is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and clean. Items are organized in a sensible fashion such that anyone with common sense can easily find most items. The employees are friendly and if you ask them where something is, they will show you, rather than give an aisle number or point. There is a Starbucks inside, but better yet, a liquor store next door. Other features of this store include a natural foods aisle, pharmacy, Red Box, and Coinstar machine. If you are going to visit this Safeway and get a cart, be sure to park directly in front of the store for the easiest cart return. read more

I find myself going to this location more because it is opened late night, and that really fits my schedule. I never find myself in a long line, and there is rarely a lot of people when I go late. It's always crazy, surrounded by litter, and something is always broken even just trying to enter. There are almost never more than three cashiers on deck and the prices are very high despite being as sketchy as a Walmart (at this location and some other local ones) Safeway is often one of the nicest markets in the area on the west coast but it sorely disappoints here. read more

My review is for Starbucks, which is located inside of this Safeway. I ordered the cheese danish and the pumpkin bread warmed. The employee told me that this Starbucks location doesn't have a warmer and that was fine. After I paid for my treats, the employee reached into the display bin and put the treats in the bag. While I was watching her do this, I noticed that this display box was full of fruit flies or a flying box!!! Gross!!! I'm confused why this particular location doesn't keep the display box for displaying only and get packaged treats from the cabinet. Hopefully they'll consider this and make a few corrections. I've been to Safeway before, but this one takes the cake. The store is clean, well lit, has an easy to use self check-out line and has great store personnel that helped me navigate through the aisles. On top of all of that it sells Farmland Skim Chocolate Milk, mini YoCrunch m&m yogurts and Kodiak cake pancake mix which can be difficult to locate in other grocery stores. I would definitely recommend shopping at this location if you want a wide variety of foods and a good ethic and natural foods section. The one drawback is the signage, the signs were placed halfway into the aisle so it was difficult to locate all the items you wished to purchase without an attendent. read more

When you travel a lot there are times when you want a no frills meal. most of the times a grocery store provides that. I came across Safeway as I was filling up the rental car with gas at the same time that my stomach was calling feed me. When you grocery shop the key is to shop the perimeter of the store and that's where I found the fresh food area and the 50% off hot food counter. I guess I caught them as they were clearing out the area. $16.00 worth of wings for $8.00 I'm in and looking for someone to share with. The wings were delicious, i'll be back. read more
