I had Safe Showers remove a built-in tub and replace with a shower ban in our guest bathroom so our aging parents can visit and not worry about trying to step over the tub.
Kimberley is a great person, and easy to work with. I would say they specialize in "institutional showers" where its function over form. That's great, but we wanted something more home-like instead of hospital-like. Kimberley worked with us to let us pick out a tile with accents to use instead of their solid single color walls, and even gave us some ideas. Price was reasonable, and we went ahead with the work.
Raul did the work, and Raul is probably the nicest guy you can ever have come to your home. Very professional, very polite, very detailed oriented. I'd gladly use him again for projects. His helper was sick, so he did all the work himself, and never complained. The results are very nice, a shower we are happy with. We got a good mix of the function of a low non-slip shower for our guests, but the form of nice tile walls with accent borders and glass door.
So at this point, you are likely wondering why I took off a star. While we are extremely happy with the work, I feel its important to mention a few things:
1.) At time of our contract and at time of this writing, the website says "...our licensed Master Plumber and partner arrive and replace your old a 1 1/4-inch drain with a 2″ drain;...". For our work, that was not true in two parts. Our plumbing work was contracted out to a local plumbing company, whom I will not name because this review is about Safe Showers. The guy that did the work was extremely nice, but was working under the master plumbing license of his dad. His partner was a guy that never bothered to introduce himself to me; just walked through my house as needed for the job. There was also a few hiccups with the plumbing work, including solder trash from the plumbing rework ending up in the toilet valve and the sink hot water valve, making both slowly leak. I fixed both, and Kimberley quickly put me in touch with the plumbing company about the issues. I spoke to the plumbing office manager (whom I found out was the mother of the plumber that did the work, but was not disclosed in the call), who throughout the call I felt was extremely defensive. She went as far as to say there was no way I could prove this was from their work. I am just supposed to believe it was just a freaky coincidence that the valves closest to where they did the work suddenly got trash in them but no where else in the house. But ok, I can deal with that, as I expected a few hiccups along the way. In short, they did the job, they did the job fairly well, but I'd never personally use or recommend them.
2.) The website also states "Our foreman and his helper...", and Kimberely heavily implied while visiting our house that the guys doing the work are her employees. This does not appear to be true based discussions with Raul and the plumber. Raul owns a counter top company, and does subcontract work for Safe Showers. That said, subcontracting is a common practice, and I just wish they were upfront about it instead of the wording they have on their website.
3.) We were told the work would be completed in 3 days. The website mentions it takes 2, but we added an extra day for the tiling and grouting, and we were fine with that. Raul even stated on Monday he expected to be done Wednesday. On Tuesday, he repeated he expected to be done Wednesday. He finished Friday night at about 9pm. Now, he didn't work a solid 9-5 all 5 days. Most days got a mid-morning start. We lost most of Thursday to him taking care of other projects elsewhere, which told me we were not the priority project. I feel that if he had actually worked the full day Thursday, he would could have finished that day.
4.) Since the work was completed well over a week ago, there as been zero follow-up from Kimberley or anyone at Safe Showers, which is an entirely different attitude from before the work started. They quickly cashed the check according to my bank account, but not even a courtesy call or text to say thanks for the business or to ask if everything is well and if we were happy. It just feels "we don't care now that we have your money". Or maybe I upset them with the plumbing complaints.
All that said, I'd do it again, mainly because of Raul and how it came out. I'd recommend them to friends but I'd spent time listing the caveats above to them. read more
