My family any I are moving from N.J. to Tennessee, if this isn't stressful enough. We though we would try to hire a moving company to take at least one stressful parts of this move off out shoulders. The reason we went with this company is that they are or portray to be a Veteran owned company. Since I am a Veteran also we decided to go with their company. Thinking that the company would be of military mind and structure. Boy were we wrong, let's get into the down and dirty. All this company is, is a company that gives you a bullshit estimate. They then send the business that you think you are getting with them to a broker and you are out of their hands. They pretend that they are there for you, but since they subcontracted it out to they have no say on what happens from there. Our price from safe ship was 12,333$. In the process to get this estimate I gave them a detailed list with measurements not to include clothes and smaller items. We also did a video walk through. So at this time my wife and I felt we were in good hands we signed the contract. NOPE! The move was supposed to be the 25-26 of June. The company they subcontracted to called us the day before and asked if they could come Sunday to pack and Monday to load and drive from there straight to TN, unloading Tuesday. So Sunday 7 non English speaking people show up to house 2 kids under 18 around 12 and 14 of age and a grandmother are included in that 7. They wait outside till another guy who speaks some English shows up. He comes in and says let me see what you have and we will get moving. I walk him through the house. He comes back in with paper work and gives me a price of 25,000$. I am confused, I call safe ship right away. I tell them what is going on, they speak to them, at this time he is unwilling to bend. They have you and they know it, you need to move and they are there. The mover is whining to me that they drove 3 hours from Virginia. I tell him no way, you can leave. This goes round and round between me, safe ship and the movers for 3 hours. Till finally I am beat. We decide to pay 19,000$. Then I find out that these workers aren't from Safes hip or 7 star moving, they are day workers hired from Craigslist. WTF , makes you comfortable doesn't it? The whole time I'm hoping that the packers are honest and not steeling things. They work for 3-4 hours and leave. They say they will finish packing tomorrow as they load truck. Next morning they show up and are there till 7:30 pm. As the day went by they got less and less careful with things, packing was also compromised. Safe ship at this point could care less what is going on. They are telling me what they are taking and what they aren't. They are saying it's to late and they aren't getting paid for this. Then they just leave. There is trash everywhere. You would think 19,000 would at least get you cleaned up at the end. Again Safe ship say there is nothing they can do. Next day the truck arrives at my house in TN. My wife and son are on that end of the move. 2 guys show up from Georgia to unload. Now keep in mind I paid for the premium pack ( take things apart, pack everything and put things together and at least put boxes in correct rooms). Again NOPE they thru everything around then as the day went by unloaded boxes in driveway and left. My son then had to at least get this stuff into garage before night fall. Now did I mention you pay 4$ a cubic foot. My wife starts to unpack, there are boxes full of just packing paper, their trash is even packed in boxes. I'm guessing to make up room in truck. Keeping me from seeing how much room was taken up. Trying to keep it to around the cubic foot that they charged me for. Allot of things are broke. None of the hardware is with the pieces that were taken apart and things are missing. So to wrap things up, horrible service all around. Lots of lies thrown around. This Veteran must have been a real winner, if he let's this happen in his company I wouldn't want him in my military. Probably dishonorable discharged and using the Veteran card to help his business. Great location to rent a UHaul truck/van. Prices were low and the guy behind the counter tweaked my rental so that I essentially had and extra day due to their hours*. Win win. My cargo van did have a slightly broken rear door thanks to a previously idiotic past customer, but it did not prevent me from fully utilizing the van in any way. It was very clean and I fortunately remembered the sign stating that an extra $15 would be charged for returning a dirty interior. I used the after hours return and while normally such a thing would be easy and quick, UHaul's method was a bit more time consuming and would be terrible for anyone non technically oriented. So... plan accordingly and have a geek at hand to help. *I did have to file an appeal regarding my final invoice since I returned the van after hours. The rate did not take into consideration the extra day and I quickly received a price adjustment and was on my way. Kim and Kathy's team have been executing for us since we met them years ago. Their packaging and shipping prices are beyond fair and I have literally called them same day and asked them to please help us out of a bind. They rallied, had Elliot and Steven on site within an hour or so, and picked up, packed and shipped a truck load of stuff, to a bunch of different locations. Anyone that has been dissatisfied with their services, seem to be more frustrated with Uhaul than they are with Safe Ship. From a packaging and shipping stand point, this team can do ANYTHING. The staff was very friendly, but my overall experience was abysmal. I rented a u-haul truck to take some construction materials to the dump in Bellevue. I live 2.5 miles from Safe Ship, and the dump site is a quarter mile from my house. When I checked in the staff asked me how far I would be driving. I told them less than 10 miles. I drove the u-haul from Safe Ship to my home in Bellevue, to the dump site, and back to Safe Ship. This overall trip was less than 6 miles. When I received my receipt through email u-haul had charged me for 30 miles of travel. Bluntly, I got ripped off. I could understand charging me for the 10 miles I estimated, but recording that I drove 30 miles is completely unethical. If you are ever in need of a u-haul drive a few extra miles to a different vendor, because this company is completely untrustworthy. read more

Staff was helpful and friendly. Great job on that end. However, the overall Uhaul experience was not good. there was miscommunication on my rental between the Gilbert Ave Uhaul location, the Neport KY location, and myself. I rented a truck with Newport, a 20ft. They were closed on Sunday, but said I could pick up the keys on Saturday and not pay the extra day. When I went to pick up the keys on Saturday, the truck was not there. And, I received no call that it would not be there. It was at Gilbert. Strike one. So, I had to go out of my way to go up to Gilbert and get the truck. However, when I got there, they said the deal I made with Newport was no good. If I wanted to pick up the truck on Saturday, I would have to pay for two days. Strike two. The whole point on picking the truck up early was so that I could begin work on Sunday earlier than 9:30am, after the store opened up at 9am. This was extremely frustrating, and wasted 2 hours of my off-day. And 3 more on the day of the move itself. 5 hours of my weekend wasted by this experience. If a deal is made with a customer, the terms should be kept. read more

I contacted Safe Ship to ship some auction items - ten pieces of art glass, nothing huge, some vases and small bowls. I was quoted a price somewhere around $157, so I gave them the OK to ship the auction glass. A few days later they called to collect payment and all of a sudden it went from $157 to almost $500!!! WTH? They said that because the glass was mostly Steuben it needed to be shipped in three boxes! I asked if there was any possible less expensive way to ship and they basically said no. Today I received the glass, and the shipping was over engineered, two giant boxes and one small box. I ship a lot of glass (have been for over 20 years), as most of this is for resale, and with bait and switch tactics like this, I'll go out of business as I cannot afford to eat this kind of exorbitant expense, very disappointing. read more

I purchased art from an auction house for which they must contract with Safe Ship for the shipping of items. One item arrived with a crack in the frame, which was clearly due to the packaging/shipping, as the box had a large tear on one corner, the same corner of the frame crack, but that was just the icing on the cake for my experience with them. This was one of several items purchased that required Safe Ship to ship. They rarely would return emails or calls when inquiring about the status of items and even then, there was excuse upon excuse about why items were not timely shipped. These ladies have a bad attitude. They will wrap your package, but if you don't want to ship it with them, they will ask a lot of questions. It's none of their business if I want to pay for packaging and then go ship it on eBay, or store it in my basement. Every time we go in, they're always saying how they're too busy and they want us to pay for it to be wrapped and shipped, but they don't want to do it in front of you. They want you to leave it and trust that it will be properly packaged and shipped to the correct location. We give them two out of five stars because when they do package the item, they do wrap it well. We hope they can improve their customer service. read more

I went through Safe Ship for a U-Haul rental. I had set up for their earliest pick up time of 9AM and had done the Express Check-In through the U-Haul website. Through this I provided the required information needed up front and thought I would expedite my check-in process. I arrived at 9AM and was the 2nd client there in a group of 4 to pick up my truck. The owner seemed to be the only one able to check us in and arrived 5 minutes late. All in all it took 30 minutes for me to get my U-Haul and I ended up being the last of the 4 parties there to receive my truck. Trucks that were returned overnight had not been checked in or inspected when we arrived and excuses were made about it being a busy weekend. I appreciate all these things but it is the businesses responsibility to deal with such things and have the products ready. I was promised a 10% discount on my rental because of this delay and saw the owner of the company make a note on my reservation. When I returned the truck no acknowledgement was made and when I asked if there was anything I needed to sign I was told that everything would be taken care of. Upon receiving my receipt via e-mail, the promised discount was not honored. While it would not have saved me much money, it was the final straw in a very bad experience with this company and I will not be working with them again. read more

One clerk is friendly - one clerk is NOT friendly - matter-of-fact - take it or leave it attitude. I would NOT recommend using this service. If I ship a package I want to know that it is actually processed and sent before I leave the facility. Took hours to even get a confirmation that it was mailed. Not pleased with their service. Incompetent staff. Do not use for FEDEX Shipping, all they care about is how to charge you for services you don't need despite being an "Authorized" Service Center. FEDEX told me bluntly over the phone not to use them (I have a Corporate Account). My package sat in their office for 4 days until I called and needed to retrieve it because the "form" wan't filled out correctly which was completely ridiculous. No followup. I would not recommend using this company to anyone. I used them to ship an item that would cost $10,000 to replace. I purchased $10,000 worth of insurance from them to cover damage. It arrived with multiple damage points on the box that took impacts hard enough to break the cardboard box in several spots. I noticed damage to the item and reported it to them well within the window of time to report. Safe Ship was not professional or timely with handling the claim. I had to keep calling back to try to get them to handle it. Finally 10 days after I initially reported it, I sent a strongly worded email to them wanting to know if they needed anything else from me and how the progress of the claim was coming, I got a response where they told me "How do we know you did not place this dent". So basically accusing ME of damaging the item myself!?!? WOW...I can't think of a worse company policy than to accuse the customer of damaging a shipment that CLEARLY has been photographed as it came off the truck damaged WITH a witness there to see the damage.
