Cafecito was on point. Service was good and the food was great. It would level up if they had more of a variety of side sauces. Came here for a quick bite while traveling. Placed in the incredibly cute downtown Frederick area, our food came quickly, the service is unbeatable, and the food was brilliantly flavorful. Man! i wish i ordered two apps instead! The combo of the avocado, bread and shrimp with the almost pico de gallo but hot version was perfect like a open faced sandwich in a way. Ordered takeout, it was really bad. I seriously don't get the positive reviews. Yelpers you let me down! I spent time in NY and FL and have had really good Cuban food. This place is sadly no where near in comparison. My wife and I both ordered ropa vieja, a national cuban dish. We were so excited to have it, but it was such a disappointment. Poorly flavored tomato sauce, is what it tasted like. It was so bad, we were just sad and tossed it. My wife and I ate here Friday evening. We ordered the paella for dinner and the fried yucca con mojo and the ham croquetas to nosh on while we waited. My wife ordered a cojito (a mojito with the lime and mint blended and filtered, that my wife said was good) and I sipped on a Negra Modelo. The appetizers were excellent. No so for the paella. It was seriously underseasoned, and there was not a trace of saffron flavor. No peas, either. The fish (¿pargo rojo?) and shrimp were overcooked. One positive note on the paella: the tostones and maduros gave the dish a nice Cuban (vs. Spanish) touch. The ambiance was okay, and the service was good. One negative is that, for some reason unbeknownst to us, they decided to mop the floor while we were eating. We were sitting a couple of tables from the bar - perhaps someone had spilled something. Nevertheless, the aroma of wet mop did not enhance the flavors of the food. We probably won't be back. read more

We walked in and our large group was seated promptly. The service was excellent and the waiters were great. Our party ordered the milanesa chicken, veggie platters, paella, and the cubano sandwich. All the dishes were excellent. However, the milanesa chicken was all breading and no chicken (very very thin slice). The manager came over and rectified the situation promptly, and apologized. The milanesa is the sole reason I give this place a 4/5. The mojito drinks were made with the right amount of alcohol which was excellent, and they even put in fresh fruits such as pineapple, blueberries and strawberries. 5/5. One of the best Cuban Restaurants in the area. The service is friendly, the atmosphere displays a lot of culture. The food is amazing; especially their delicious pork morsels. Even served a seasonal mojito with great chunks of watermelon which made the flavor even more refreshing than the fresh mint did! Having been to Cuba the cigar/ trinket display by the restrooms are authentic. The uniforms are reminiscent of classic guayaberas (cigar shirts). Overall, a wonderful experience. They lost a star b/c the ropa vieja was too soupy. Otherwise, you can go wrong with any of their appetizers; all were full of flavor. Unexpectedly dropped by for a quick fix and was served immediately by a lovely young lady with a great smile and wonderful disposition. Huge shout out to Henry who took care of us tonight! Brought the entire family this trip because this is hands down the best place to grab some Cuban food in the DMV area. However, since this is our third visit I think I should finally give this place the credit it's due! Out first trip was a to-go order of Vaca Frita, some jupinas (pineapple soda - if this sounds weird to you, just trust me and thank me later) and a Cubano. Hands down THE best Cuban sandwich I've ever had (sorry Florida)! It was late and I tried to only eat half but it was too good to put down. The sandwich is served on classic Cuban bread that is soft but has the perfect chew once pressed. The roasted pork is full of flavor, juicy and perfectly tender. The honey ham and Swiss cheese is the perfect combination of salty and gooey that this sandwich requires. The pickles are thick, juicy and the perfect condiment. The mustard is light and does not overpower the sandwich like many Cubans tend to do. Seriously, I could write an entire review on just this sandwich, so just stop what you're doing and order one...I'll wait. The vaca frita was also good, but let's be honest, the true star was the Cubano. The food was so delicious that we went back a week later to enjoy an afternoon lunch with the family. Service was excellent again and we tried a few new dishes to include Bistec de Palomilla with Congri (rice and beans mixed together), some tostones and yuca frita (and two more Cubanos if I'm being honest). Also had a colada (strong Cuban coffee with more sugar than any trainer would ever approve of, shhh). Made the hour trek out here again tonight with a group of 13. Staff was super friendly and accommodating and Henry was the rockstar who singlehandedly took care of us all night. We tried (yes, another Cubano - don't judge) the Ropa Vieja con tostones, maduros, y yuca frita. The ropa vieja was tender, salty and full of flavor. The olives and capers are blended in so don't let that keep you from trying it. Masitas de Puerco came deep fried and perfectly crunchy, but not dry at all. To top it all off, we ordered a round of coladas for half the family and left full and happy. We'll definitely be back (for a Cubano) and more. :) Maybe next time I'll remember to take photos before inhaling my food. Oops. read more

Honestly one of my favorite Cuban restaurants (and I've been to lots, both in DC, and elsewhere). Sabor de Cuba is also probably the first Cuban restaurant I went to so it'll always hold a special place in my heart. The sizzling shrimp appetizer is a refreshing combination of shrimp, avocado, tomatoes, white wine sauce, and Cuban bread. My favorite dish is the grilled red snapper, which is flaky, not overcooked. It comes with black beans, which don't have a ton of spice so the flavor of the beans really comes through. The sweet plantains are consistently perfect: very ripe, not too greasy and just the right amount of crunch. Their house white wine ginger vinaigrette adds a fantastic burst of flavor to their salads. Now the entrees are good, but let me tell you about dessert! Their tres leches is hands down the best tres leches I have had. The milk is always soaked the entire way through the cake, the cake always has perfect, just-a-bit-coarse texture, and the whipped cream and raspberry drizzle top it off perfectly. Amazing. My one complaint is that their food is not very vegetarian friendly. They do have a veggie platter which consists of rice, beans, plantains, and a salad (and maybe yucca too, can't remember). While this is fine, I think their veggie offerings can be expanded, and would benefit their menu as a whole. read more

I've been following Sabor de Cuba for awhile and finally decided to give it a try. I ordered: - Classic Mojito - Chicken Soup - Vaca Frita - Beef Empandas The empanadas and mojito were good. The chicken soup comes in a shallow bowl. So, by the time it comes to you, it's lukewarm. The vaca frita was okay. I rate the restaurant 3.5 stars, primarily because of the service. I was ignored for 20 minutes after being seated. Then, the server ignored me until she brought the check. Service is a big part of someone's experience. Plus, the food wasn't good enough for me to drive 1.5 hours for again. This might be a great option if you are local but, there are better options in DC. read more

I came here with my friends after a blustery hike to Annapolis Rock. We wanted to explore Frederick and found this place. Amazing Cuban food with generous portion sizes. Looks unassuming from the outside, but has a modest and homey seating area. The fresh guava juice is only 3.50! Stupendous chicken soup and is enough to feed a family with one thigh. The sizzling shrimp makes your mouth water even before you take your first bite. The Cubano sandwiches were some of the BEST in the DMV area. I like Cuban food a lot but for some reason it's not something I eat often. Perhaps it's because there aren't a lot of Cuban restaurants that I know about. I shouldn't let this cuisine fly beneath my radar because I really enjoy it. Sabor De Cuba: To sum it up, I was impressed with every aspect of this restaurant except the service. The restaurant is clean, has a full bar, and a decent amount of seating. It's located in a cool area downtown Fredrick. I started with beef empanadas. Loved the green sauce for dipping. Great flavor. The empanada shell was nice and crispy. For my entree I got Vaca Frita. Pretty much shredded, crispy beef with rice and beans. The meat was a little dry but the flavor was on point. Side dishes were great. My girlfriend got the Cuban and based on the one bite I took it was pretty damn good. As I said earlier my only complaint was that the service was a little off. Took a really long time for the food. My brother who dines here often assured me it was an off night. read more

The background " Muzak" was too loud at time to have relaxed conversations. Very uninspired plating of all of the dishes. Just one half of a plate with plain white rice next to a dump of minced beef with 3 overcooked plantains. Not much seasoning except on the beef. No condiments on the table. On the pork dish imagine mostly the same plating with eight good size chunks of way overcooked and dried out pork chunks. Overall a typical "Cuban" meal and I don't understand why we keep searching for a good Cuban restaurant when Cuban food is typically way below expectations. The pork had a delicious flavor and it was slightly crispy on the outside but very tinder, fall apart tinder. Service was great. Drinks were great. Was visiting Frederick with Mom and decided to give this place a try because of the fantastic review on Yelp. It's indeed a quite place and the service was good. We ordered Beef Empanadas, Repa Vieja, and Arroz con Pollo. Beef Empanadas - It's delicious, the recommended Green sauce ($0.75 extra) was a bit sour but a good match with the Empanadas, I tried a different place before who used spicy Verizon of the thousand island dressing as the dipping sauce which I actually like better. Repa Vieja - This dish was recommended by a lot of reviewers but I'm actually a little disappointed with it. The pulled flank was too salty for me, and the white rice wasn't cooked well either, as a Asian, I'm relatively picky with rice. It's too soggy, looks like they put in too much water when cooking. But I don't try Cuba dishes very often, maybe it's supposed to be cooked like that? But the sweet plantain was delicious! Arroz Con Pollo - Absolutely delicious! Favorite dish of the Day! The yellow rice was really favorable but not too salty, then chicken was tasty also! We finished all of them even though it's a big portion! This is a great place to have a taste of Cuban cuisine. Our party of four had three different plates. We started with croquetas de jamón. Unfortunately, most of the Cuban restaurants I have visited in the USA does not make homemade croquetas. They are industrially made. Now, our main entrees were superb. We had the red snapper, chicharrones de puerco, and ropa vieja with black beans, yuca al ajo and fried ripe plantains. All of the dishes were great. One of our friends had Hemingway martini, the rest water and soda. The martini was well done and well done. Not too sweet nor sour. Our hostess was outstanding and very engaging, she was very caring and had excellent manners. The rest of the personnel were very nice and warming. Best cubano I've ever had. Good balance of meat, cheese and pickles. The bread was also soft and fluffy I was expecting it to be tough but when you take a bite everything just melts in your mouth. I would definitely drive all the way to Frederick just to pick this up. So worth it. read more

They were slammed and definitely having a hard time keeping up with a Monday rush so service was slow. Food was more than worth the lackluster service. I'm hoping this was a one-off experience given the great reviews on yelp but my arroz con pollo left a lot to be desired. The chicken was lukewarm at best, dry and flavorless, and difficult to cut from the bone because of how dry and cold it was. The rice though was outstanding - cooked with flavorful small green olives and every forkful steaming hot. Unfortunately the contrast between the rice and the chicken made for a pretty mediocre meal. The waiter asked about my meal but aside from apologizing for the cold chicken didn't seem too interested in doing something about it. He was nice and polite, and I hate wasting food so I didn't ask for a replacement. I'm pretty sure if I asked for one he would have done so. The plantains (Maduros) were expertly fried and flavorful. Much like at my favorite Cuban spots in SF, Portland, and Palo Alto. Celebrating Giz's birthday with Cuban food. This great downtown venue and it's friendly welcoming staff did not disappoint. Started off with chicken and beef empanadas & tomato bisque. Moist, tender, and flavorful meat wrapped inside a beautiful golden fried pastry that was mouthwatering. The tomato bisque was very good and went well with the empanadas. I had their special, which was breaded fried steak with rice, black beans, and fried plantains. The steak was very flavorful. The breading didn't stick to it too well, but that didn't stop me from eating it. The black beans and rice were good. Giz ordered their Pernil. Thin tender sliced marinaded pork with onion and garlic served along side rice and beans. We finished it off with a delectable tres leche cake.
