I almost don't want to review this place just so I could keep it my little secret... it's my favorite Thai restaurant in all of NYC (I don't want any bad Yelpers ruining it!!) I have never had a bad experience and I eat here at least once a week. The service is always friendly and attentive, but not annoying. The food is AMAZIIIIING. They make my favorite pad kee mao + papaya salad. I bring all of my friends here and they all fall in love. Also, the prices are great. Good Thai spot in Elmhurst (closer to Jackson Heights near 74th St.) For appetizers we shared an order of fried vegetable dumplings. Unlike the "vegetable dumplings" from other Thai restaurants I've eaten at, these were actual dumplings and not patties. Instead of being pan friend, it seems the entire dumpling was deep fried, which I loved. Had the Lad Nah which was very flavorful, and I preferred Sabay's Lad Nah to Spicy Shallot's. Sabay Thai has become a go-to for my boyfriend and me whenever we're in the mood for something savory and spicy for lunch. We can always depend on them to turn out good food and have yet to be disappointed with anything we've ordered. Good prices, cute casual restaurant with Thai karaoke & other music videos playing on the TV in the back, and heavy on the spice. Solid all around. Personal tip: if you usually order medium/regular spicy when you eat out, you might want to consider trying the mild at this place first. Why I like Sabay Thai: CONVENIENT. 1 block from the 74th / Roosevelt Avenue subway, the Times Square of Queens. AFFORDABLE. Typical entrees are $7.50 including rice, whereas some others in the area will charge $10 and up, plus extra if you want rice. I got a huge entree with rice, a bowl of soup and a Singha beer for $17 including tax. AUTHENTICITY: I was the only customer in the place who didn't speak Thai. Plus they have Thai Karaoke. Sabay Sabay- Bueno, bonito y barato (good, pretty and cheap). I get treated so well here with big smiles, the waitresses know what I want. My friends and I come here often to gather. Drinks were average but no complain as the food is really important to me there. We had a great time there. The only reason I am not giving five star is b/c we were kicked out with "We have a reservations of 6 coming in". Even though other tables were still eating and the place was still packed, i was aware that they close in about half hour or so and there was no reason to trick us to leave the place lol. I have eaten at sabay about 10 times and their food is always amazing. I'm a Thai food lover ive tried over 40 Thai placees in NYC and I would say this is def in my top 5. I compare this to the likes of qi or topaz. The food is always on point. The service is great . the prices are amazing... Like seriously 6.50 for lunch special is an amazing deal for the quality and quantity of food you are getting. Even their regular prices are great. So I hopped on Yelp and uncovered Sabay Thai. Boy did we hit the jackpot! This friendly, low-key place has a lunch special that includes an appetizer or drink, all for about six bucks... and it was available 'til 3:30pm every day (including Sunday)! Curry dishes come with rice, too. I had red curry chicken with soup, and it was plenty good. My friends got the drunken noodles lunch special, pad see euw lunch special and chicken with papaya, all receiving rave reviews. I liked my curry so much I grabbed another lunch special to go; the pad thai was just as good, if not better--even after I let it get cold. As a previous Yelper mentioned, they take heat seriously here... so if you request medium or spicy, Sabay will bring the hotness. Beware, and bask in the joy of manly Thai food (I had my hands full with mild/medium)! I'd recommend this place to anyone, honestly. I'm very impressed. This is a decent Thai restaurant but in an area where there are a couple other Thai restaurants, it didn't stand out. I started off with the duck salad appetizer which was pretty good. It was a little salty for me and I would prefer if the duck was less crispy and more meatier. The Thai iced tea is served in a Coors beer glass which would have been ok if it was really good but it was a little too sweet for me. For the main dish, I ordered the red curry beef and while the red curry had a good spicy kick to it, the beef wasn't great. I also tried the peanut curry chicken which I liked better but I would have to say that this place overall was just ok and nothing special. read more

I came here for lunch on a whim. Friendly staff and good service. They had lunch special from 1130-330. For the main course, I had the Drunken Noodles with shrimp and for the appetizer, I had the vegetable soup. I ordered mild spicy as I read that it can get on the spicier side. Given that I love Thai food and have pretty high expectations, I was not too expressed. The flavor was a bit bland, although spicy and overall, average. Not like Thai food I'm used to. Small narrow little restaurant. They play some super awkward K-Pop videos in here.. but I guess if that's you thing you'll love it. Personally I find teenage girls with bleached skin, more facial plastic surgery than Joan Rivers and eye enlarging contacts performing choreographed dances extremely creepy... but mildly amusing as well. Our waitress/server was very young, mid-teens, and she barely spoke English. She had to go get the chef when I had questions about which dishes were vegetarian/how things were prepared. The chef was much friendlier and more personable, but that probably had to do something with her better grasp on English. The other girl seemed really sweet, I think she was just shy because she was still learning English. Thai Tea is tasty. Vegetarian Dumpling - usually these are steamed or pan fried if you asked for them to be fried. The whole thing was fried here! Delectable! I'm a fan of their LUNCH SPECIALS. For only 7.95 you can get a salad, roll and an entree!!!! The lunch entree is the SAME SIZE as their DINNER entree. Sabay Thai... Good flavors but small portions.. If only they gave bigger portion, I would have given them 4 or even 5 stars. For dinner, my friends and I went here and we all got different dishes. Let me give you a overall. 1. Fried rice- there was plain fried rice with tofu and pineapple fried rice. They were standard, nothing special and if anything pineapple fried rice lacked pineapples. Nothing special. 2. Lad Nah- The gravy was delicious, but there was BARELY any noodles! What in the world?! They also had chunks of garlic. Good thing I don't mind garlic, but one of my friend was put off by the garlic. Flavors good, but again, barely any noodles and they served it on a HUGE plate, which just took up space. 3. Drunken noodle- SPICY! I asked for normal and it came out quite spicy. I didn't mind it much, but again, not much noodles. It had more vegetables than the noodle itself. It was unusual to see thai place that gives so little rice noodles in their noodle dishes. Normally it's all noodles and few sprigs of greens, but not here. However, I don't know if I liked that... 3. Pad Thai- Nothing special. Same old Pad thai you get at any other place. Why do they get more noodles?! 4. Fish - Crispy, great sauce, but again, portion was small. It was fillet so no needed to debone the fish. 5. Red Curry- I'm not into coconut flavors in my food, so i can't say much, my friend who ordered it loved it. She wished the they gave more rice, but besides that definitely enjoyed it. Overall, food flavors were standard to pretty good. However, the portion size was disappointment. There were 4 people total but extra plate was ordered and boy was I glad for that. If that wasn't ordered and split, I would NOT have been full. The price is reasonable, but it's out of the way for me and the portion was a disappointment so I would probably not go out of my way to eat there. So several people I know have recommended this place as the best Thai food in Queens. If its my first time eating at a Thai place, I usually go for Pad Thai. I mean its simple & its almost impossible to mess up or so I thought. I called for an order for delivery one day while at work. I ended up ordering Pad Thai, Spring Rolls & a Thai Salad since she kept telling I wasn't at delivery minimum. The food was extremely disappointing. Everything came with a mountain of RAW bean sprouts on top of it. By the time I picked off all the bean sprouts there was barely any food in the carry out tray. I ordered CHICKEN Pad Thai, there was mostly TOFU. I dont know if she heard my order wrong or if every other Thai restaurant I have ever been to doesn't know Thai food. Despite its current food safety rating shown on the front door I ventured in to try a new Thai option. The green curry was nice, but unfortunately that was the highlight and the other dishes were bland. Even one of personal favorites (Thai Ice tea) was less then exciting. The staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant was clean and the prices are okay. If you are a big fan of Thai food then you should try this place out at least once if in the area. I walked into Sabay on a sudden impulse while walking to the subway station from Elmhurst Hospital. It was a long 14 hour day and all I could think of was going home and eating something from my fridge. But when I passed Sabay it looked warm and cozy, and most importantly it smelled delicious! Spicy and a little greasy but so so inviting! And so I decided to abandon my homecooked meal and dive into some Thai comfort food. I went for the drunken noodes, which I had only with shrimp and veggies (i.e. I chose not to have any additional meat). It was simply put "soooo good." I kow I am biased because I was ravenous at the time but seriously, my dish had tons of vegetables and shrimp, and the noodles were well cooked...and the medium spicy sauce while a bit too hot for me was all Thai goodness. It was pretty heavy on the oil side, and yes I've had better drunken noodles before but given how hungry I was, how fresh and good it tasted, how ridiculously cheap it was for the portion ($8) and how promptly it was served, Sabay does not deserve anything less than 5 stars. The place looked very family friendly, and had a small business charm about it. I ate at the bar but the tables looked big and not squished against each other (clearly the restaurant does well enough without having a hundred tables stuffed in it). Definitely coming here again but hopefully not feening for food like I was last night. read more

The food is absolutely excellent. We had calamari for an appetizer along with Shrimp Tom Yum soups. The calamari was perfectly cooked and the soup had three JUMBO shrimps, not the wimpy teeny shrimpy shrimps you usually get at other places, I had a shrimp dish with loads of fresh, green vegetables and my friend had the jungle chicken which was spicy to the perfect extent. The service is great but it could be because we went when it wasn't too busy but nonetheless, great service. The bathrooms are spick and span, so no worries there. Great decor as well! read more

After ordering over $40 worth of food, the portions were small, 2 out of the 4 dishes ordered looked as if they were uneaten left overs that had been recycled. I love this place! I had the thread bean noodle dish yesterday and for $7.00 it was better then the comparable dish offered by Black Thai and Arunee (Pad Woon Sen) for more money. Lots of vegetables, not too salty. Other positive aspects of this place are that it is close to the Roosevelt Avenue subway (one block away), they have great tropical alcoholic beverage as well as Thai beer and a full bar; they earned an A rating from the Health Department; all three waitresses were fast, attentive, nice and polite; the other customers are locals and not pretentious because it is reasonably priced; and lots of selection. I have been coming here for over 8 years. Its a small restaurant but very warm and inviting and they always display some artwork from locals in the neighborhood. Their lunch specials are a great deal! Under 7$ you get an appetizer and and entree(good portion). They have your food out in under 10 mins. Love the plum sauce that comes with their spring rolls. My favorite is the shrimp pad thai! It never disappoints. The fried rice is delicious as well. read more
