Raouche Combo Platter The combo platter was certainly…read morebountiful, which I appreciated! The portion size was generous and felt appropriate for the price. Unfortunately, while the platter delivered on quantity, it fell short on flavor. The beef was cooked well-done, leaving it tough and dry. There wasn't an option to select a preferred cooking temperature when ordering, so I'm not sure there's a way around that. The chicken arrived with a beautiful golden exterior that looked promising, yet the meat inside was disappointingly dry. The kufta suffered a similar fate, having been overcooked to the point of being dry and hard. Overall, the meats lacked the tenderness and flavor I was hoping for. The rice, however, was prepared well, and I particularly enjoyed the slivered almonds sprinkled on top. I selected the side salad, which featured fresh, crisp vegetables. The vinaigrette was quite tangy, a little more than I personally prefer. Overall, the portions were generous, and the ingredients in the salad were fresh. Unfortunately, the lack of seasoning and consistently overcooked meats made for a disappointing meal. While this place didn't feed my soul, perhaps it feeds yours?

We decided to share everything and eat family style. We ordered 3 Ukrainian dishes: Holubtsi (cabbage rolls stuffed with lamb and beef mixed with rice), cabbage stuffed varenyky (pierogis), deruny (potato pancakes) and the lamb kofta. Each dish was fantastic! The holubtsi were soft and tender in the center, but didn't fall apart when you cut through them. The varenyky tasted like what my family made. The deruny were thin and crispy - my favorite way of making them. And the lamb kofta was absolutely scrumptious. The rice and sauce it came with were divine. Our all-in-one hostess and waitress was also the manager, a young woman from Ukraine who was incredibly attentive and endlessly friendly. She embodies what the hospitality sector is about. The owners are a couple - a Palestinian husband and Ukrainian wife. The latter seems to be the chef de cuisine, while the former runs the front of house and went out of his way to connect with us and introduce us to his son, who also works at SimSim. TLDR: Even if you don't care about supporting two different war torn countries, the food here is both delicious and authentic. I can't wait to go back and eat my way through the rest of the menu!

The restaurant itself looked really nice inside, but unfortunately the food and service were pretty lackluster. We asked for some additional sauce and were told there would be an extra charge, which was completely fine, but somehow it took another 15-20 minutes just to get the sauce after our food was already ready. The chicken was also pretty dry, while some pieces actually seemed undercooked, so the consistency was a little strange. The rice had raisins mixed into it as well, which we weren't expecting and personally didn't care for. The interior and atmosphere were probably the highlight, but based on this experience I don't think the food or service really stood out enough for us to come back.

Delightfully fresh and filling. Lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, sliced red onions, chickpeas, dill, mint, a bit of lemon and some olive oil... and I got mine topped with a generous portion of gyro meat. Absolutely amazing. The gyro meat was tender and flavorful, and the lemon and herbs in the dressing gave the salad an extra brightness and freshness that made the whole thing so delightful. I didn't think it was possible to enjoy a simple salad so much. I'm sitting outside of the restaurant right now seriously deciding if I want to go back in and order one more to take home.

I first tried the assorted kebabs. Unfortunately, the chicken had dried out and the kofta felt too crumbly. The chicken rice dish had quite aromatic rice but underseasoned chicken; seasoned rice alone can't substitute bland chicken drumsticks. The lamb rice dish had both aromatic rice and juicy, well seasoned lamb. I ended up combining the lamb pieces with the chicken rice. Out of curiosity, I tried a piece of their fried chicken. It proved juicy and not too oily. It would do well as a standalone appetizer in most restaurants. I also tried something that looked like lasagna, but without tomato. It tasted, to my uncultured palate, like a lasagna with some sort of cream or bechamel-like sauce. I quite enjoyed it. For dessert, my friend convinced me to try what I had initially passed over as oatmeal or tapioca pudding. The Omi Ali proved quite delectable, like a cross between bread pudding and oatmeal but with more nuanced spices and sweetness. I added it to my short list of desserts I enjoy, since I don't have much of a sweet tooth. Overall, I appreciated the breath and variety. Some hits and misses are to be expected at a homely, ethnic neighborhood style buffet.

If they could put less sauce by default I would definitely give this place a perfect rating. I'm in between a 4 star and 4.5 star for this place.
