What a gem located near me on Upper Union Street in Schenectady. First time to visit!…read more Ordered: Chicken Chapli with Pita instead of fries (choice) Chicken and Lamb platter with Pita Swarma Wrap Received generous portions of flavorful Mediterranean food. The Chicken and Lamb were moist and tender. I am not a lamb lover, but this lamb could change my mind. The rice was spiced mildly and tasted great with the meats. The pita was cut into small pieces, but I would have preferred a whole or half pita. I will ask next time. The owner supplied me with three different sauces on the side to try ranging from mild to spicy (green one). The Chicken Chapli was a cut up well seasoned chicken patty. A few meat combinations are available. (See pic of Menu) The Swarma Wrap was moist and a little messy to eat since I sliced it into two portions. It had a medium spiced sauce and small salad pieces such as cucumber. Not my favorite. The owner was friendly and thanked me for my business. He said they cater for as few as ten people if interested. I commented on the long hours they are open (10 am to 1:15 am), and he responded with a smile, "We're from the City." There are several tables to dine in if wanted. Lots of natural light from the large front windows makes the place inviting. The pick up counter with kitchen behind it is beyond the tables. The walls are decorated nicely, and the place screamed CLEAN. Parking is in front, and the restaurant is easy to access. There are no steps to enter. I look forward to ordering again soon, especially when family visits. Quality, healthy well prepared food to enjoy at home. Please check out my photos to get a sense of the experience.

Sausage links actually snap when you cut them. Rye toast perfectly buttered. Exactly what you would expect from diner coffee that Starbucks or Dunkin's or Tim Horton's would die for. Can't miss. There are standard breakfast and lunch items for the office workers, but of course we went straight for the Egyptian dishes. Had the Koshari which is "the national dish of Egypt" (the very friendly proprietors kept reminding me that the food was better "because we are Egyptian" and I am not going to argue) and the sampler platter. Koshari is kind of an elevated garbage plate, lots of good things mixed together, heavy on the carbs with a spicy tomato sauce, a meal by itself. The sampler plate delivers a huge amount of food for currently $12. Everything has a little something extra that makes it special; the falafel is flavored with onion and herbs and is perfectly fried to a crisp shell with a moist interior; the stuff grape leaves are steamed before serving and have some minty accents; even the pitas get brushed with oil and spices, toasted and cut into bite size pieces before they are tucked away in the container. There is a lunch room for the office workers across the hall if you care to eat in while the food is piping hot, but it nicely survived my drive back to Saratoga. Come here during the limited hours (they're only open during breakfast and lunch on business days) and prepare for a treat.

The dining area was charming, and the staff was friendly and helpful. I had the steak kabob with chimichurri sauce, roasted potatoes, and green beans. LOCATION: The present location is on Winsted's main thoroughfare. Ample parking is available in the lot behind the brick building that houses the restaurant. CONCEPT: Chef Noujaim brings the culinary traditions of his native Lebanon, as well as some dishes from other Mediterranean cultures. AMBIANCE: The restaurant is divided into two dining areas. Sunlight streams through the large exterior window, and mirrors placed along the brick walls of the interior dining room bounce light and make the space feel more expansive. SERVICE: Service is exceptional... Chef Noujaim is very active in all aspects of the restaurant, yet takes time to personally connect with customers. There is such a welcoming feeling when visiting Noujaim's Bistro -- one that is uncommonly experienced in Connecticut. FOOD: I haven't been able to match the Lebanese food I've had at Alladin Restaurant in Allentown, where there is a large Lebanese community. After decades I've finally found a match during my first visit to Noujaim's Bistro. I chose dishes to best compare my U.S.-based benchmark-- Hummus, Baba Ghanouj, Fattoush, Turkish coffee and Halvah. Portions were generous, inviting sharing. The Fattoush was far better than my benchmark in both presentation and preparation. Likewise the Halvah, which was served with candied orange. This dessert paired perfectly with the intense coffee. So good, I was eager to return the next day. Given it is an hour long drive from home, my solution will be to order additional dishes to take home! TIPS: The restaurant is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Catering is a popular option, and the business is able to cater in New York and Massachusetts as well. Consider coordinating a visit with the American Museum of Tort Law just down the street, founded by another community member of Lebanese descent, Ralph Nader. Portions are generous and invite sharing.
