Nice spot for a coffee near Washington Park! I stopped in on a weeknight as I'm one of the few people who drink caffeine in the evening and was looking for a coffee shop that was open later. They close at 7pm on weeknights, which is great. I love how beautiful the cafe is. There are tons of tables and good wifi too. I ordered an iced mocha, which was great, and the barista was helpful and friendly. I do wish they had a specialty coffee latte and some more dessert options. There were several savory pastries available when I went and I was having a major sweet tooth moment but thankfully the iced mocha hit the spot! read more

Albany's Washington Park is a gem in itself but it's also fortunate to have a number of great cafes and restaurants nearby. Among the more recent arrivals is Java Cafe on Madison Ave. It offers a nice variety of coffees, teas, other beverages and baked goods, all in a relaxing setting. What's more, they tell me that small dogs are welcome. I stopped in recently after taking a stroll in the park with my West Highland Terrier. I was surprised when they told me that my little dog could come in, too. I ordered the most wonderful hot chai latte with coconut milk and a dash of cinnamon. Since I was staying, it was served up in a stoneware cup with saucer. I also ordered a potato borek, which they explained was a small Turkish-style mashed potato pie. It was good. My friend ordered a delicious large house coffee with cream. The cafe is small but inviting with exposed brick walls. There's nice furniture and interesting wall art, including a banjo hung from one wall. But my favorite is the amoeba-shaped full length mirror with the words,"You look amazing," painted above it. How's that for giving customers encouragement? My little dog stood under our table and smiled. She was well behaved. There were several other customers but most of them looked lost- in -concentration over their laptops. It was a delicious and very calming experience for us after a nice walk in the park. This place is awesome, the staff is so kind and very attentive. The place is warm in both a decor sense and a temperature perspective. The honey cake and latte I got was amazing! The pastry and latte my daughter had were also very good. (We left nothing if that says anything)! This place is located on a strip of coffee shops / cafes. Java Cafe recently opened on Madison Ave across from Washington Park. There's tons of seating, nicely decorated (I'm a sucker for exposed brick) and lots to enjoy. Coffee, pastries, fresh orange juice and lemonade. I ordered an iced latte with almond milk and caramel. It was nicely balanced, not too sweet and not too much milk. Pet peeve of mine when it feels like you're jut drinking a cup of milk with a splash of coffee. Also had to order a strawberry croissant once I saw it. Fresh slices of strawberry and a layer of cream tucked in a buttery croissant. It was delicious!! read more

I loved visiting this cafe. It's much more spacious inside than I expected. I had a potato burek and a tea. Both were great. I wished the potato burek was a little bigger as it tasted amazing lol. The tea was scorching hot and perfect with the burek. My daughter had a blueberry and raspberry muffin which she said was great. The service was very pleasant and prompt. A cute little Internet cafe located right on Madison Ave. I absolutely love that Java Cafe is open from 7am to 8pm - perfect for early morning or later evening studying! The Turkish coffee is my personal favorite. They have a few other basic cafe drinks and flavors. They also offer a few pastries. My one complaint is that the tables are small and light (so if you are writing sometimes the tables move a bit). I also find the chairs to be flimsy and not so comfortable. read more

This is a new place that deserves a visit. Wonderfully pleasant and helpful staff and great prices. The matcha was delicious and I didn't need anything added which is rare. Had high hopes for this place by the few reviews online and the look of the environment. The service was that of the Dunkin around the corner. Walked in to a young woman who gave the typical "no smile, I hate my job" greeting. The coffee flavor was nice but the latte itself was probably more like a kids temp hot chocolate. Perhaps the barista is having a poor start to her Monday. I hope she has a good week and perhaps learns to have better customer service sense when working in a customer facing environment. Java Cafe is a relatively recent cafe that just opened and I thought it'd be fun to check out! The space is definitely cute and conducive to studying or working, they do have public wifi! However my experience with their drinks was disappointing. I ordered a matcha and it tasted mainly like a cup of iced milk. The color of my matcha was rather pale and diluted and I didn't really enjoy my drink that much. They offer other coffees and pastries which could be worth trying. It is a tidy run of the mill coffee shop since I didn't see any specialty drinks! The baristas were nice overall. I don't know if this place will be my go-to coffee shop. read more

They're open later than other cafes, have fantastic pastries, and the espresso is solid and affordable. Highly recommend spending time here.

So happy to have a place that is not a bar and is open until 8pm! We need more non-bar places like this where people can gather with friends, including in the evening! With winter coming it will be especially nice to have a friendly cozy place to go for a hot chocolate in the evening whether with friends or solo. People brought in their chess board and backgammon games, friends were talking and laughing and it has great background music without being intrusive or loud like so many places. They know how to do it right and their drinks and baked goods are great. Maybe a little stronger/more flavor with the iced Matcha and iced chai latte, but that will come with experience. I also really appreciate the cafe tables out front, but those would be a lot more enjoyable if no one smoked at them nor smoked while sitting on the nearby steps. Most nonsmokers don't appreciate second hand smoke and that will deter some customers. Any tea drinkers should appreciate the Kurdish tea. It's a black tea, but brewed differenly and has a nice smooth taste. Also ask for the cold baklava. It's not in the case, because it has to be refrigerated. It's different from the traditional Greek Baklava and SO GOOD! Overall, FANTASTIC, clean, conscientious, friendly, cute, welcoming, yummy destination open to 8pm seven days a week! read more
