My review may be lengthy but worth reading! First, I wish I could give more than 5 stars. S&S is literally the best repair shop I have ever dealt with. And they are not just a repair shop. They are a full service dealer of a wide array of products. My story starts with a Fisher Price Power Wheels Barbie Camper that stopped working. My granddaughter was heartbroken and so naturally so were we (grandma and grandpa). Fisher Price stopped making them a couple years ago so no way to replace it. It is in perfect condition except when you stepped on the pedal it simply would not go. We called Fisher Price and they were no help. We tried finding someone to repair it to no avail until we located S&S. We brought it to their store and were met by the nicest, friendliest, most knowledgeable and honest couple who own the business. I felt like I was with my best friends after meeting them. After explaining what was wrong, they said it was possible the gear box was bad, which is common, but would not know until getting inside and checking. If that was the problem, they quoted a repair estimate, and we left. About 15 minutes into our considerably long ride home, they called and said the camper was working perfectly after they tested it with a new battery. They concluded that the original 6 year old battery I had been using was no longer charging sufficiently to make it go! They had the right battery in stock and that was all they charged me for. No fee for looking at it or testing it. Just the charge for the battery which was half of the repair charge they had quoted. They very easily could have said they replaced the gear box and charged me what they had quoted and made extra money on this. But they are wonderful, honest people who are extremely good at what they do, which is provide tremendous, honest and friendly customer service. I am thrilled that my granddaughter and future grandkids will be able to enjoy this toy thanks to S&S. I absolutely 100% recommend them to anyone in need of the services or products they provide. I brought my old kichenaid processor to get repaired and unfortunately it is so old they don't make parts for it. Bummer but what can you do. Although they couldn't help me with my food processor, I did buy my vacuum cleaner from them about 8 years ago and it still works fantastic. The prices for bags there are comparable to Amazon (so let's support local people) and they carry my favorite sponges made in Israel. read more

My introduction to S & S was over 35 years ago when I took in a vacuum cleaner that I thought was a goner--it was repaired (ends up one should NOT vacuum up a whole Christmas tree of needles!). Over the decades, I've continued to take vacuums, my sewing machine, and various appliances there for repairs. Needed a new upright. Called these folks, they sounded VERY friendly on the phone & told me to come in & test out a new brand & model they were offering. Turned out to be the one I bought, a Riccar upright. Made in St Louis Missouri too, very happy about that & very happy to buy it from a local biz. The saleswoman there was even friendlier than she was on the phone & demo'd the vac & let me try it out too. I was sold, bought the thing right there. read more

Words can't express: This business is fabulous! I originally bought a 350 Bernina, had it a couple weeks, went back and bought a Bernina 330. I love having TWO sewing machines. When I take one in for routine maintenance, I lose no sewing time as I have the second one. Everyone that works there is always VERY polite and helpful. Any questions I have are always answered, and the work is always perfect. Both Berninas have always performed beautifully. They sit side by side which makes it easy to slide over to the other machine in my chair with wheels. One more thing I wanted to add.....In all my years of sewing I had never owned a "walking foot". Land sakes! I just love that attachment! The layers of fabric go right through without shifting or bunching. Many thanks to S & S for their dedication to fine service and wonderful products. I have a 40 year old Hobart/Kitchen-Aid stand mixer that took up smoking during one use. I didn't want to see it go in the garbage and I hoped it could be salvaged. I found S&S and took it in and in less than a week for $40 they had it humming along again. All that work there are friendly and knowledgeable. They don't promise you miracles and are open about what has been done and where you stand. I really appreciate that. We are lucky to still have a store like this that repairs for people that have real appliances not the plastic ones that are built to be thrown away. read more

Had a great experience with this store! They are awesome. Our vacuum broke and we brought it to them to have it fixed. They were pleasant to talk with and fixed our vacuum in under a week. When my microwave stopped working I took it to Stu at S&S Vac and appliance, even though it was an older model and I wasn't sure if it was worth fixing. He fixed it for less money than it would have cost me to replace and it has been working great. Service was so good that I took him my malfunctioning toaster oven and he fixed it for only $14. He works quickly and is very friendly and knowledgeable. Every time I've gone in there has been a line of people dropping off vacuums and other small appliances to repair--the locals already know about this place. Definitely worth a look if you live in Poughkeepsie and want to avoid throwing an easily fixed small appliance away. read more

My wife's long-since discontinued Oster kitchen center quit working. I couldn't find anyone locally willing to repair it. Then I found S & S Vac on the internet and contacted Stu. It was obvious that Stu was familiar with the unit. I shipped it off to him and he had to repair the unit's circuit board as parts are no longer available. Who does this kind of work anymore?? When I dropped my Brother sewing machine and broke off the thread spindle, everyone at my quilt guild told me to go see Bunny. I took it in, she was honest, telling me that even if she could get the part (the entire top piece would have to be replaced), it would probably cost more to fix than I would pay for a new machine of similar quality and capacity. She sent me home with a thread stand and a small bill for cleaning the machine and adjusting the settings. I then brought in my Featherweight, 301A and a couple of other antique machines, which she fixed quickly and reasonably. After several trips to drop off and pick up machines, I decided to buy a really good machine, and with Bunny's assistance, I chose an Elna that is now my pride and joy. I have been taking lessons (included with the purchase price which was incredibly reasonable) and doing things I never dreamed I would be able to do with a sewing machine. Bunny and Stu are the BEST! they really know their stuff, work fast, are honest and reasonable, and every time I walk in there, greet me as if I am the best thing that's come through that door all day. They are great people giving great service in a great store. No matter how far you have to come to see them, it is worth the trip. read more
