Absolutely Professional and affordable My 16 years old Gas dryer starts to have this high pitch squeaking sound over the weekend and we are debating whether to fix it or buy a new one. Called affordable appliance on Monday and the owner John called me back in a couple of hours and told me it's worth for them to come over and take a look at it for $85. The tech guy Russel came in the next day on time and fixed it within half an hour. He told me the total cost after he opened up the machine and diagnosed it, all it needed is to replace two of the bearing rollers. Extremely professional and skillful. I'm so happy to have them over and now my dryer is running smoothly. Instead of spending over a thousand to buy a new dryer and wait for a week or two for delivery. called them about the downdraft. ginally came and charged me $85 plus tax to tell me the fan was shot. this was in May and they said they'd order a fan and get back to me. never heard and finally out of frustration I asked my son to check it. he took the piping apart and the fan is fine. it had actually come loose. so disappointed in this company!! read more

Our Samsung washer dial was unable to change the cycle. John's guy came out and diagnosed the problem. They charge $75 minimum to come out. The good news is that lit will be applied to the cost of the repair if they do it Their response times were great and the work was done very quickly. I recently moved into a new home and needed all of my appliances installed. John never asked if our gas appliances should be connected to propane or natural gas, but did advise me to order conversion kits for both my gas range and dryer. Not knowing what a conversion kit is for, I followed his directions. Both appliances were connected as if to propane, not the natural gas serviced by Central Hudson throughout the townhouse complex in which I live. I was fully aware that we had natural gas and would have advised John of such if I had been asked. As a result, having been told by John that the dryer was broken, we returned it and did not have a dryer for several weeks. The appliance store replaced that dryer only to tell us, upon examining it, that the only thing wrong was the installation. Our new range operated with dangerously low flames. When I asked John to repair the range, we were advised that the original hardware had been discarded. This was odd, as I had saved every manual and all parts left behind. Several months later and hundreds of dollars spent unnecessarily with another approved service, our range finally works properly and safely. I've called John several times to give him the opportunity to discuss compensation, without success. read more

Over-the stove microwave died. Sears wanted $250 to come out and troubleshoot, and "replacement cost might be around $450".. But AAR Owner John H told me "it's the magnetron. it's a $52 part, or you can replace the micro for $200." So many bills at the time, i chose the DIY $52 option.. He gave me the step-by-step! Perfect! Ran til we sold the house.. Same with my dryer.. $16 replacement part plus $100 visit VS $400 repair visit by Sears. John H figured out years ago that customer service and reasonable cost win out over Sears' corporate bean-counter strategies. And where is big-box Sears today? Just names on empty buildings. Home Depot, etc... ? You'll blow half a day talking to somebody in Ohio & another day waiting for a truck from Newark. Owner John H also advised me well about which washer/dryer to buy.. He said the repair business THRIVES fixing those flashy washing machines people feel they must have- all the bells and whistles fail and cost $$$ to replace. With the Big-Box stores, you pay a lot more for any service and can almost never resolve a problem without 2-3 hours on the phone, plus- you wait all day for a house call. in contrast, Affordable Appliance is right there, LOCAL ! -a quick phone call away. They came to fix a Kitchenaid refrigerator that had ice accumulating in the refrigerator section(not the freezer). There was a section that was a solid frosty line of ice across the entire back wall inside it. After taking parts off I was told it needed a defroster fan. Waited for them to get the part in and set up a return visit to replace it and assured all was fine and I paid my bill. Within a week a similar issue happened. Instead of the ice going completely across it this time it only went half way across. I called and left a message(usually no one answers so that's how it's done). When he came back and looked he pointed out that since the ice only went half way across there is a leak in the refrigerant line on the section that is not frosting/icing up. He said I need a new fridge. This is a $4,000 5 year old fridge. I said it seems like the leak is exactly on the coils you worked on to remove ice, plus I paid you for a part and repair and it still has the same issue. He packed up his stuff and said he'd have the boss call me. No one ever called me. So, I paid hundreds of dollars for a repair that only made thing worse. When that happens and they don't even give you a call it's like take the money a run. read more

These guys are on the money. They show up when they say they are showing up, and they call to confirm beforehand. I was having issues with my twelve year old GE Profile refrigerator with a bottom freezer. The guy showed up and within 15 minutes, he had the lower freezer disassembled and showed me that the condenser coils were frozen, hence a sealed system leak and not economically repairable. Then he buttoned it all up. Next, it was my wall mounted AC unit, 24,000 btu. The guy (the owner, this time) showed up and actually pulled the unit out. It worked, but was making a horrendous noise. The man showed me, the fan shroud rusted out, and the shroud was hitting the fan blades. It was not repairable. He put it back together and reinstalled it. I bought a new unit, same brand but slightly physically larger. I had him come back to install it, since some carpentry was involved and it was a two-man job, due to the weight of the unit. Flawless service, very neat and professional work, and they cleaned everything up. Glad we have a service like this around this area. read more

Was referred to AAS by another local service company to work on our Blue Star pro style range. Explained, our problem over the phone and was told that we probably had a bad igniter. A week later the service person finally shows up and is here for less than 5 minutes. Informs me that we DO have a bad igniter and charges by $89!!!! I ask if they can replace the igniter and he says no problem but that the igniter might cost around $300 I said that's fine. 2 weeks go by and I haven't heard from AAS to I call to ask what's up and he tells me that he has been "calling them everyday and getting no response because of COVID and that he has FINALLY gotten a hold of them yesterday and was trying to get the part... Blah Blah Blah". It was clear that he had not called anyone. Another two weeks go by and I called and left a message to which I got no response. I googled my range and immediately the igniter comes up for $70. It has now been 7 weeks since I first called. I ordered the new part and installed it myself weeks ago. Still haven't ever heard back from AAS and expect that I wouldn't unless I called them again. I am guessing they take as many calls as possible to rack up these $89 service visit fees and then just ghost their customers when they actually need something. Spent well over a month with no operating range until I finally just did it myself. Summary: slow to respond, charged an outrageous amount to diagnose what was an obvious problem they had already guessed over the phone, Planned to overcharge for the new part by over 400%. Never even got as far as ordering the part and 100% hung me out to dry. Did literally nothing and provided zero service and charged me $90 to do so. read more

My GE Profile refrigerator quit working with lots of frozen meat at risk. I call Affordable Appliance repair and they asked me if I was in danger of losing what was in the freezer. When I replied, "Yes", they scheduled an appointment for the same day. That was much appreciated. When he arrived on-site as scheduled, he stepped through a diagnostic routine that he was obviously very familiar with. My freezer coils were frozen up with frost. They were not being defrosted between freezing cycles. First he tested the heater, that was good, then he replaced the thermister which was the next likely culprit. He hesitated to replace the much more expensive circuit board, he wanted to see if the thermister fixed the problem as a lower cost first. As it turned out, it did! What also impressed me was that he had replacements for all three possible problems (heater, thermistor, circuit board) in the back of his truck! No sending away and waiting for parts. The repair was very reasonably priced. Needless to say, I will use him again. read more

I had an issue with my fridge and they came out the same day I called and although the fridge was not able to be repaired due to the new parts being junky (the parts from the manufacture )the company took great care of me. They were very friendly and helpful. Tried several times to fix the problem and was honest with me when it was no longer repairable. Contacted this company to assess our oven, which presented with a distinct electrical burning smell. We waited over a week for John to come and assess the situation, which is ok. However he spent less than 15' inside the home and stated that there was nothing wrong with the stove and that it was safe to use. He left promptly and the longer the oven stay plugged in the outlet, the more distinct the smell became (as it has over the last week). My wife contacted him to discuss the issue, and he stated that she was "embellishing," the problem and was very dismissive towards her concerns. I called to discuss the lack of attention to the primary complaint with him, however he decided to call us back at 1:15am and left a message to let us know that he would be refunding us and we should seek out someone else. This is an example of a business caring for its customers without putting profit always up front: a washing machine in my parents new place needed (I thought) its rubber gasket around the loading door replaced. Answering service for the Affordable took my inquiry and a couple hours later I get a call back. I got the quote exactly about the price of the part plus the labor, but then I get very helpful information that since the gasket was not torn, just moldy and smelly, that I could first attempt to wash it. It looks like that the previous owners always locked the doors after a wash, so the gasket never had a chance to dry thoroughly. In the end, we still might end up replacing the gasket, but I know whom I'll be calling to handle this repair. He didn't get the business (for now), but the advice was welcome and will be remembered next time we need anything repaired around our house too. Thank you, Affordable! read more

AAS originally looked at my wall oven in February 2016 when after a power outage there was an error message on the screen of my double wall oven. The technician seem to be able to fix it for a minimal price but did warn us that we may need to have a board replaced if it happens again and it would cost a few hundred dollars. One year later, almost to the day... It did happen again. Having had a good experience the first time, we called back AAS to take another look. This time we believe it was the owner who came out to our home, who spent a significant amount of time on the phone, and in seemingly trying to fix the oven, and eventually concluded and communicated to us that the part(s) we need was no longer being made and that we should take dimensions and think about a new oven which he could quote us for. The oven being fairly new, we wanted to contact the manufacturer and see if there was any kind of rebate for a new oven since we did believe the repair guy who said he couldn't get the parts. That phone call took a turn for some surprises when the manufacturer told us that in fact they could get the parts and not only could they get them, if we send back the defective parts they would rebate us around $150. When I called AAS to tell them this, it took two days for the owner to call me back, who was not only defensive about my findings and didn't know what "you want me to tell you" but eventually hung up on me. What I "wanted him to tell me" was that he was sorry and would see what he could do to help me - isnt that his job? Isnt that the job of every repair service? Why would he get defensive? He WAS nice enough to give me the part numbers so I could research further, again, premised by "take dimensions of the space and we will quote you a new oven", but still...if you dont know how to talk to people, maybe you should reconsider what you do for a living when you work w the public. I simply called hoping he could find a resolution and maybe double check who told him the part(s) werent being made anymore. Instead, I got a nasty response with a lot of "what do you want from me". Really? This is a service that is supposed to provide solutions and help. Not be rude, defensive, and basically uncooperative (typically when you hang up on someone, you say more than words). We would not recommend working with this company at all, as it seems that they don't understand how to do research, nor do they understand how to talk to intelligent customers and they apparently take it personally when you do your homework. Ice maker stopped working on a Thursday. Called for a look-see/repair...was told we would be contacted on Sunday for an appointment. Husband checked online for repair tips and fiddled half of Saturday with appliance. AAS called late morning on Sunday to set up house visit time; husband laughed and informed caller that the machine was working as they spoke....and then the caller went into a rant about not being called, how he didn't understand how customers never called him back, how WE had now screwed up his entire weeks schedule!! When I took the phone to explain to the man what had happened...he hung up on me. IF he had bothered to listen at the end of his tantrum...I would have told him that the ice maker had only started working again within the last half hour and that we were waiting to see if it would hold or if we would still be making an appointment....when HE called us later in the afternoon to set up a date/time. His loss, because we had every intention of adding him to our permanent 'call' list for the future based on the person who suggested him to us. There would have to be an apology before I'd consider working with him in the future. read more

I first looked these guys up on Yelp, found some great reviews. I call them up thursday night and the very next day my call is returned, an appt is made, and within a couple hours they arrive. The gentlemen was very polite and courteous. I discussed my problem with my washing machine and within moments he had it taken apart, assessed, and we were already chit chatting small talk as he finished up fixing my problem. I did do my homework about what needed to be done, it also was above and beyond my skill level to do. AAS provided very friendly service at imho a very reasonable and fair price. My washing machine was fixed and put back together before I could even finish our small talk. On top of that, I had another appliance in my recently purchased home I'd ask if he'd mind taking a quick look at. To my knowledge (it was the range hood) the appliance wasn't connected, or didn't work, or who knows. He spent all of five minutes and without even charging me, adjusted a few small things and had it working. In less than an hour my washing machine was fixed, and after a year in my new house my range hood was working. I would definitely recommend these guys for any appliance needs.
