They (Sew & Vac) dropped a quarter down the hose of my vacuum and charged me $10.00. They charges me $10.00 for 2 seconds of work, outrageous. They should be ashamed. They lost out, I saw a vacuum I liked. They gained 10.00 but lost several hundred from the sale of a vacuum. Good work. I will go back to L&S in Hyde Park they are always pleasant to deal with. Won't buy anywhere else. It started with purchasing a Janome sewing machine and has progressed to buying a serger and embroidery machine. Kevin and his dad makes sure you understand how to use them and they come with lessons. Have taken two different classes and had a great time. People instrucing are patient and you learn a lot. There are even open sew sessions where you can bring your project in if you stuck or confused and they offer good guidance. Had issues (operator errors) with the new machine and they walk you through them, even quick fixes for free. Same thing with vaccums. Bought a Sebo and love it. I left my Dyson vacuum on a wednesday. I was Told the part needed would be in the following Monday. I called later that week and was told parts are on delay. I certainly understood but was disappointed that they did not reach out to me. When I was in the area I would stop in. There is a very nasty woman who was very rude. I finally got the call that vacuum was fixed. At this point it was about a month out. I was shocked to find out that the bill was $210.79. I took it in for a clogged hose and never received an estimate. The hose was replaced without my knowledge due to exposed wire that I could have used electrical tape on. if I had known expense and Time involved to fix I would have purchased a different type of vacuum that I have wanted. The younger girl at the counter was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful she should go to a nicer place to work. Older women at the deak took over a minute to acknowledge I was standing there with no other customers in the store. The guy who called me about service for my vaccum on the phone has some sort of mental disorder, he speaks like he's inconvenienced by the customer (uncomfortable pauses, accusatory nature, and "tells you", instead of explains to you about his service). I try really hard to support local businesses but I think customers would be better off bringing they're money to someplace else as I did. read more

I took my Miele vacuum to Sew & Vac for warranty work ( I did not buy it from them). A different shop had it for three weeks with no results. I left it on Wednesday and got a call that night that the vacuum was repaired and ready for pick-up. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Condescending attitudes and very eager to take your money with their sewing classes. I was ripped off, placed into a sewing group that I didn't want and they refused to give me a refund. Even when I didn't show up for their sewing classes afterwards. It wasn't fair that I had to be moved from the class schedule that would be most accommodating to my work life and they still wouldn't refund me. In the throw away world in which we live, places like Sew-N-Vac are a slowly dying breed. The name pretty much spells out what they are about - vacuum cleaners and sewing machines - but what sets them apart from the Wal-Marts and Jo-Ann's of the world is that they also do repair on the premises. My seven year old Hoover vacuum hadn't been working well and I was really dreading having to plunk down $150+ to buy a new one. I did a quick Internet search on "vacuum repair" and Sew-N-Vac appeared. After calling the store and describing the Hoover's problem, I was told to bring it in - they'd look at, determine the problem, and let me know if it was worth fixing. And am I ever glad I did! The vacuum needed a new belt - and 10 minutes (and $10) later everything was working fine. What a relief! The guys who run the place (and btw - they're old - but it seems like the only folks who can fix appliances anymore are 65+...) will look at any sort of small appliance that isn't working and help you find a way to get it working again if they can't do it themselves. If you are concerned about the environment, and overflowing landfills, and rampant consumerism - consider visiting places like this. It's good for the planet AND your wallet! read more

i had my sewing machine service there I dropped the machine of on Nov. 21, 2020 after about 3 weeks i called to check on the status I was told at that time the y were waiting for parts. The gentlemen that answered the phone was very rude. On Jan 3, 2021 I called again the lady who answered the phone was not sure if machine was repaired She took my phone number & said someone would get back to me. On that same day I finally got a call telling me the machine was fixed & I could pick it up. I picked the machine on Jan. 5, 2021 The machine works fine The gentlemen who was at the front desk was very rude I thank him for the service he did not respond I will never go back there . To condense a long story, I returned the product before they were able to repair it. But I want to interject a few comments about the father & son. I think they're tops. The father comes off gruff, but actually he's hysterical, what we call dry humor and is a stand up guy. The son went out of his way to make sure everything was okay. I want to stress they made no money dealing with me and I was a bit of a time suck. Who does that today? So aces to them. I had been contemplating upgrading my Babylock Ellisimo and took my sister, a newbie sewer, to this store to talk her into purchasing her first electronic machine. I will also be moving back east and wanted to find a Babylock dealer. When we walked in, we were not acknowledged by the three visible workers. They were with other customers, but there was no "someone will be right with you", eye contact or head nod. We decided to look anyway. Out of nowhere this man approached us when we came stopped in front of one of the high-end sewing machine embroidery combo unit. He asked how I was doing and I responded, "well, how are you?" His retort, "Do you have $18,000?" I didn't ask how much the machine was. I asked how you were doing." I said. I heard you, that's an expensive machine." I replied that I was aware of the cost and asked if the only reason he decided to acknowledge our presence was because I touched the machine? I indicated we no longer needed help and we were going to leave. We headed for the door and he basically shooed us out with a wave, "Good-bye ladies, have a nice day." This was the rudest interaction I have ever encountered. His comment was definitely unnecessary. I have been sewing for over 25 years and own several machines. I am aware of the value of these machines and was not being careless. I touched the touch screen. That was all. Had he been helpful and friendlier he would have ended the work day with two machine sales. At this point neither one of us will be patronizing this location. I will do my due diligence and make sure any dealer that I locate is not affiliated with this location. I know it is common for dealers to have more than one location. I will spread the word too. You can't be disrespectful to people and expect them to be okay with giving you their money. Do better. Be better! read more

These people are incredible in their level of unfriendliness. This is basically an obsolete business that should have gone under years ago. If you want to be treated in a nasty and impatient way, then definitely go here. If you wish to deal with pleasant individuals who won't make you feel like an idiot, go elsewhere. The VERY elderly men that run this place are just that - grumpy, bitter dudes that don't want to answer your questions and aren't happy to help you out. It doesn't help that the store is situated in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE in a really depressing "mall" (if one can call it that). Just let this place die. It already feels like a mausoleum. read more

Sewing machine servicing through JoAnn's Fabrics store. Machine had to be sent out and was returned without performing any of the ordered repairs. Instead I was over charged for "regular servicing" which was not ordered. Perhaps the issues with machine are to advanced and repair place only does the very simple quick work to make a fast buck. WATCH OUT... Worst experience with a store ever... The son is rage full and the father/pwner backs him up.... They told me they were fixing my very expensive NAME BRAND vacuum, and replaced parts with second rate no name plastic, and cut the cord off and put a Knot in it to stop it from going into the machine, where a plug had been with a stopper....NO PROBLEM WITH THE PLUG TO BEGIN WITH, the prongs were a bit bent but totally functional... I bought a central vacuum from here and the service is terrible. I brought the machine in 4 times for the same thing and they keep telling me that hair is getting into the motor, and they keep charging me to fix it (the first time I brought it to them it was 1 yr old, now it is 3 yrs. old). They acted annoyed that I kept bringing the machine back to get fixed. They even said "what do you want me to do about it?" and never offered to call the manufacturer or anything. Steer clear of this place; do not buy a vacuum or have one serviced here. I just had my vacuum serviced here. I had bought it eight years ago. The service included a cleaning of the motor. I brought the vacuum home, started using it on my beige carpet, and grease marks appeared everywhere. I found a glob of black grease on one of the wheels. The owner, Bob, told me that he uses no such grease and that the motor is sealed. Why then did he charge me extra to clean the motor? Of course, we have no globs of grease in our car's back seat where the vacuum was placed for its ride home, and no globs of grease were waiting for us on our carpet. They messed up and did not take ownership, and you should expect the same treatment. Would you trust the purchase of a $500-$1,000 vacuum with such people? You've been warned. read more

So impressed with the services and team at this shop. I brought in 3 broken vacuums and they showed me how to fix one on my own (no charge) and then fixed the one that was worth fixing. I ended up buying a vacuum that works better than any one I have ever had. As a new mom I was flustered with carrying in the machines and the baby carrier and they let me pull up to the back and loaded my car and took the payment from the door. I have never had worse customer service in my life. The employees here are rude, unfriendly and unprofessional. I brought my vacuum, that I had purchased there several years ago, in for repair. They had the vacuum for 3 days before even looking at it, then called with an estimate. I gave the ok to do the repair, and they said they would need to order a part. One week later I called to see if the repair had been done and the woman I spoke with could not help me and seemed annoyed I was asking questions. She advised me to call back the next day, which I did. I spoke with someone else, and was informed the part hadn't come in yet. I was then told that they didn't even order the part until 4 DAYS after I agreed to the repair. The reason? It's too expensive for them pay for shipping on one part, so they wait until they need several parts before they place an order. I was very unhappy with this, since I needed my vacuum back, but the employee I was speaking with was rude and unconcerned. He actually said, "What do you want me to do about it?". Well, since they had had my vacuum for almost 2 weeks by this point, I decided to cancel the repair and take it somewhere else. I picked it up and brought it to S & S Vacuum Center and was thoroughly pleased. The staff there were very friendly and professional, and were able to fix it on the spot - for LESS than Sew-N-Vac was going to charge me! I will be going there from now on. read more
