We came here, well out of our way, based on a recommendation. We normally have a go-to spot in Kalamazoo that makes delicious food, always on point and were really hoping for a new one to add to the rotation. We won't be back. I ordered the French toast and I swear to god, it was basically just toast. You can tell from the pictures how legitimately dry and bland it was. No flavor, not good at ALL. We always love breakfast potatos and those were pretty awful, too. Tasted like they microwaved yesterday's breakfast potatoes. They were dry and not flavorful, either. We hoped that the cinnamon roll would fix things, but it was pretty bad, too. Too much icing and the icing was the kind that basically just tastes like a cardboard box of powdered sugar and it was dry inside with not much cinnamon. As for the service and ambiance, the service was OK. We didn't see the waitress much but we didn't need much assistance and the vibe of the place gives like industrial fast service. Open ductwork, gray, garage feel. It's not a "cozy" place, per se. It was clean and there was plenty of space open. All in all this meal was so disappointing and we don't plan to give it another chance. read more

Rykse's is a local name with a big city flavor. Located right here in Texas Corners is this cool little place with amazing food. I've always enjoyed their cinnamon roll that is as big as your head (maybe not quite), but close. It's a perfect way to start a Sunday morning with a hot cup of coffee! The food was delicious! Fresh, cooked perfectly- I got the bbq brisket bowl for lunch. The cheese curds in it were amazing!! My son had chicken fingers (the fries were seasoned and just crispy enough) I'd go back for a fresh, healthy lunch anytime! However I was disappointed by the service. We were seated with breakfast menus then when we went to order our server said oh we aren't serving breakfast anymore. Would have been nice to know before we made our food choices! It also took a long time for the food which was odd bc when we ordered there was hardly anyone else there. Finally, she charged us for drinks with kids meals that should have been included. It's definitely different from their old location that I was used too. But what a nice place and so much to offer. Couldn't stay for a big meal. But it was so nice to see they had sliders! I got the BLT and that was perfect. The roll was so yummy, the veggie fresh, and the bacon crisp. Very wonderful combination. Then add a cinnamon roll and the afternoon is off with a great start! The good - a bright new building with lots of natural light. Friendly staff. Also several options on the menu that appear to be gluten free, or at least don't come on bread. Also some interesting drink choices - a different soda brand, some flavored lemonade, etc. The not-so-good. I understood this to be "fast counter service" which I interpreted to be like Q'doba, but which actually took 10-15 minutes to come out. So closer to Panera time wise? So I'd say counter service, but would delete the fast. Fine if you have time to spare, not your best choice if you're in a hurry. Also - wow! I paid $15 for a grilled steak bowl and a drink. Fresh ingredients are good and all, but there was way more rice than steak in here (see photo), hardly any cheese at all, so a lot of rice, greens, corn, and beans, and not enough of the stuff that would have made it worth that amount. The bowl was filling - definitely a complete meal. The jalapenos added a lot to the flavor, which was good, but they might want to think about chopping them a little smaller so you're not getting such a big bang when you bite into one. The steak was a little over done, but not terribly so. As far as my drink went, the flavored cream soda was very tasty. There were some other items on the menu that I'd like to try, so I'm sure I'll be back, but probably not frequently as the cost/value ratio was not overly impressive read more

Disappointing. I've had good breakfast and service here in the past, but not so much today. If you'd like to pay 12 bucks for an epic game of I SPY ; I suggest you start here. My breakfast sausage sized finger was bigger than the meat I managed to find in my dainty wrap. We've been wanting to try this place for a long time and finally last weekend we decided to give it a try. The place is really nice with some really good coffee! They have a breakfast buffet - which wasn't suitable for us as we don't eat meat. But for someone who eats meat - it did look interesting! We tried the scrambled eggs with veggies quesedilla and scrambled eggs with veggies, red potatoes and toast. What we liked was that they added a lot of veggies to the eggs. The potatoes pieces were a bit big with very little seasoning due to which they didn't taste the greatest. I had expected more from this place, but maybe didn't order the right stuff? Might come again to try the bowls - they did look good. They do have a small section with books and toys for kids which was helpful in keeping my 1 year old busy read more

I had the chipotle chicken bowl, half size, with a freshly baked roll. This was my second visit for lunch, and even though there were other good options, I ordered the same thing again. Delicious and just enough for lunch. The restaurant was very busy for a Thursday. The server was friendly and food came out in good time. Since The restaurant is open to the takeout area and bakery ( oh, the sweet smells!), the noise level was a bit much. It was definitely not a quiet lunch. The atmosphere was lively. If you're looking for a fresh and clean kind of breakfast look no further. I had the avocado toast and will have it again. Filled me up without feeling like I needed to take a nap after. My picky 5 year old devoured the kids French toast as did his grandpa (the adult version). The sausage were the nice plump links not those tough, dried out raisin looking ones. Very disappointing experience at Rykse and Co. for lunch today. I've always had good experiences in the past, but today was so bad I'll never go back. Our service was horrible, I don't believe it was intentional, it was due to a poor example set by the management and lack of training. Servers were on their phones while I had to search on their cart for napkins and silverware. My burger began disintegrating in my hands, so when I pulled the bun off, I found the patty was in 4 pieces (sorry, no pic), so I ended up eating it with my fork that I had to scrounge for myself. Also, one other small issue, which sums up the lack of attention to detail, when we were seated, we were given breakfast menus, but it was after noon and breakfast was no longer being served. read more

Went around 8:00 on a Thursday morning, we were the only people there, besides an employee finishing his breakfast at a table who yelled to the back to notify them we were there. Glad I'd read a review that said you order at the counter, because we didn't see anything directing you to do that, nor was there anyone around. It's a small menu, for sure, but we each got the breakfast quesadilla and we split a grilled cinnamon roll. I love breakfast quesadillas, and this was possibly my favorite in town. Not greasy from the chorizo at all, and the tortilla was perfectly grilled and crunchy. Of course the cinnamon roll was good, but we were expecting that after having had them at their Stadium Dr location. I was concerned about the service, too, after reading the reviews. My husband mentioned wanting additional sour cream and salsa, and just as I was scoffing and ready to tell him about the poor reviews regarding service, and how I wasnt expecting much since we were their only patrons, the server came up the stairs to check on us and I swallowed my words. We were excited and intrigued by what we had seen and read about the new restaurant in Texas Corners. Having read about the origin story, we hoped that Ryan Rykse could do something that his parents at the Stadium Drive site seemed unable to do: create and put out tasty food. (And to remind the reader what I think of the Stadium Drive site, I said in my review from last September, "The bakery is amazing. Cinnamon rolls, pecan rolls, blueberry pies - when they are in season - they are all delicious and delectable. The restaurant, on the other hand, evokes in me a giant shrug of indifference. Breakfast and lunch items on the menu are bland and forgettable except when one orders breakfast items that includes a cinnamon roll, because then the cinnamon roll is the star and everything else is a snooze.") The physical appearance of Texas Corners site is innovative inside and out. Rykse described the look as "industrial/farmhouse" and I would certainly agree with the first half of that adjective. There is a heavy reliance on glass, metal, and concrete. The appearance is as different from the Stadium Drive site as it could possibly be. The menu is not large - four salads, five sandwiches, several pizzas, and a number of "bowls," which appear to be a protein, a starch, and a vegetable. At a recent trip we ordered the Rueben sandwich, the Fruit & Nut Salad with added Salmon, a soda, and a water. The Rueben was accompanied by chips, the salad was accompanied by nothing. (It was not until we looked at the restaurant's online menu, which includes photos of every dish on the menu, that we realized the salad was supposed to come with what is described as "a side of toasted wood-fired flatbread," so it's absence was a Panera-like execution problem). We compare this restaurant to several other similar restaurants (cafe menu of sandwiches, pizzas, and salads that offer counter service): Panera (many sites) and Fire Hub (Battle Creek). Cost: For equivalent meals (2 entrees and a soda or a coffee - my girl only drinks water with meals), Panera will average $22 and Fire Hub will average $22. At Rykse's our meal was $28. The Rueben was $11, the salad was $10 plus another $3 for the added salmon. Flavor: I have recently reviewed Fire Hub and I found the costs similar to Panera but the Fire Hub food to be superior to Panera. It isn't even close. And so far the Fire Hub hasn't frustrated us with those annoying slips so common to Panera, e.g., ordering a sandwich and discovering the expected protein is entirely absent. If you enjoy the food at the Rykse's Stadium Drive site then you will be reassured that the Texas Corners will be more of the same. We, however, didn't want or expect more of the "same," since the "same" is bland and tasteless. And that's what we got. I was particularly stunned about the Rueben. I find corned beef can offer a decided flavor - combined with the other ingredients (sauerkraut, Russian dressing, rye bread) the Rueben sandwich can offer a robust treat. This was the opposite of robust. The corned beef was tasteless. The rye bread was soft and airy, so by the time the sandwich arrived at our table the bread was unable to hold together because it had soaked up butter from the flat top as well as the juices from the sauerkraut. The sandwich came with a little dish of some unknown white paste on the side. My girl and I tasted it and couldn't detect exactly what it was. After we consulted the restaurant's website, my girl thought it was a chip dip; the online menu mentioned a Thousand Island dressing but there was nothing in that bowl or on my sandwich that remotely looked or tasted like Thousand Island dressing. My girl's salad had two types of fruits: strawberries (tasteless, out of season) and blueberries (tasty, in season). The Strawberry Poppyseed Salad with Chicken (Panera) comes with strawberries, blueberries, canned mandarin oranges, and chunks of pineapple. And chicken is standard with the Panera salad, not an extra. She thought the Panera and Rykse's dressings were a draw. Overall, she was unimpressed. So overall, a big giant yawning disappointment. read more

They were fresh, heathy and delicious. Nice kids menu for the little ones. The grilled cinnamon rolls are to die for. They make the best baked goods and I recommend anything they carry- my favorite the peanut butter cookies. read more

The location is absolutely darling. But we were slightly underwhelmed by the food itself. We ordered breakfast. And the scrambled eggs were... weird? They lacked seasoning and were just overall not great. The cinnamon roll was huge but nothing outstanding there- honestly it was pretty basic and not even heated up. I would definitely come back if in the area to try some other baked goods, but nothing stands out at this place that makes me need to return any time soon. Also CLOSED on Sundays- why?! Farmers market bowl is amazing, I would definitely recommend that if you like scrambles. You are able to upgrade to a muffin instead of toast, which they seem to have different flavors when I go. Or for a little extra you can get a HUGE cinnamon roll, they will even warm it up for you. Cookie dough brownies are also one of my favorites. This was our first visit to the new location & building. It was a more modern building with patio seating & upper level seating besides the main floor. They had booths, tables & high tops. The food was excellent. We both ordered biscuits and gravy which came topped with eggs & hash browns on the side. I could only eat 1/2, taking the rest home to enjoy another day. The hubs ate all his & thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff was friendly & helpful. The bakery cases were very well stocked with cinnamon rolls, cakes, brownies & more. We brought home a couple of items & including our breakfast spent under $30. The new menu is online with online ordering & have a drive up window for pick up. This is a restaurant I will return to often since it's close to home & we had an all around enjoyable experience. read more

I've frequented the " old" Rykses and was looking forward to trying the new building in Mattawan... it was such a disappointment! As soon as you enter you can hear the noise and reverberation because of the Industrial style of the building. We chose to trudge up the stairs to help reduce the noise factor, and it did help but then I felt terrible for the waitress to have to go up and down the stairs just for us I had the Thai chicken bowl which was very good! But when we went to check out, the dessert window was practically empty! We were there at noon, and we got the last 2 cookies. There was only 1 cinnamon roll left and it was half the size I have ever seen of their rolls! There was 1 piece of pie left, 1 cupcake, and some cheese cake. Oh I was so looking forward to a variety of delightful treats... no such luck. Sad to say I will not return. read more

I have eaten here twice. The first time my breakfast bowl was very so-so and not worth the price, but I was hoping lunch might be better. The steak bowl looked amazing but was another disappointment. The steak flavor and consistency was not to my liking. The ingredients were fresh, but overall lacked taste. The bakery items are fantastic and I may stop by for a slice of pie again but I will not be ordering any more meals. My family and I came here for dinner the other day and we were very displeased. My husband got the brisket bowl and I got the chicken bowl. We were very disappointed in the food. It tasted like it was microwaved, the meat tasted like low quality roast beef and the chicken was dry and unappetizing. We were charged 30$ for food that was NOT worth it....if we wanted to spend that much we would have gone to Chipotle and had way better food. We also got a "free" kids meal so we ordered our child the chicken quesadilla...all it was a 3 pieces of chicken nuggets in the middle and again tasted like it was microwaved.
