Ryan's is THE spot in Kennebunk. Classic Irish pub feel on the inside and a beautiful patio with lots of outdoor seating. It's definitively casual but classy enough to bring the whole family; you feel comfortable and welcome. Phenomenal food and drinks (10/10 recommend the chocolate hazelnut martini) and friendly, attentive service. We visited on a weekend when they had live music and the energy was magnetic. We walked around the whole town but kept coming back to Ryan's because no other place compared. Long after other businesses had slowed for the night this place kept drawing people in and the party was still thriving when we left. Absolutely loved this Irish pub right in the he heart of downtown. Large outdoor tent right in front for extra seating, we however sat right at the bar. Smaller L shaped bar only 10 seats but so cozy. Bartender has been there since the beginning. She was so nice, lots of locals in here. I went with a harp draft. Located almost directly across from our lodging, it was inevitable that we would find ourselves at this pub. What will not ever happen again is a return visit because fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and shame on me. Let me explain the first and, may I add, last visit. My wife and I each ordered shepherds pie that was described on the menu as being "just like mamma used to make". Truth be told these were not shepherds pies, but cottage pies and they were bland and likely would have brought tears to a shepherd's mamma eyes. Love this place! Very cozy bar/restaurant and a great find in the off season. They've got dollar bills pinned to the walls - and they offer magic markers and thumbtacks for anyone who chooses to leave their mark. The beers are delicious and the food was great. We loved the potatoe skins with cheddar, bacon and other good things. The fish and chips were were excellent and the chicken tenders satisfied our younger diner. My husband noticed someone having the bangers and mash at a nearby table and wants to go back before we leave Maine. The wait staff and people in the bar were warm and friendly. Whenever I am in Maine, I make it a point to visit this establishment. We love the fish and chips. Service was good. Food was good. If you eat here or stop for a drink do not sit at the top of the steps. The smell of grease will stay on you all day. They prepare the food downstairs and must not have good ventilation. It is best to sit outside when the weather allows. Sit by the front door if eating inside so you stay out of the path of the grease fumes. Staff is friendly. Stopped in here for an after-dinner drink on a chilly Saturday night and couldn't have asked for a warmer, more inviting atmosphere. It's definitely a cozy environment - the tables are pretty close together and the space is small - but that only adds to the close-knit, local feeling of the bar. The ambiance was completed by a talented local performer doing an acoustic set with lots of familiar tunes on the setlist. Went here a few times during my recent visit. I think the bartender hates everyone. Well at least us. I'm Irish myself, but I don't get the ignoring people who need a drink sitting inches from your face. It was not too busy when we were there so it also doesn't make sense why service was so slow or inattentive. Also of note, the AC was either broken or just not on, making for a heated interior. This was summer and it was slightly hotter inside than outside with a breeze. Did they leave it off intentionally? Do they just not want you to hang out there? If the surly bartender was nicer or more attentive and the AC was working, we would have been glad to hang out there for far longer than we did each time. This is the only "bar" on the road so maybe they just don't care because they're the only "Irish" game in town? We got lobster bisque and there was no lobster in it. I'm serious. It was just liquid and it was not good. The bartender swore no one has refused it all day but also, we think she was messing with us. She did take it off the tab which was nice. Not a nice place. I can't give you a review on how the food or drinks were, because my wife and I were told to move to a small table where there was not enough room for a small child to sit, or to a crammed bar stool. Otherwise we were to leave! I'm guessing the next guests were more important then we were. So if you like a very small bar with low ceiling, and a rude staff, this is the place for you! Excellent fish and chips on a dog friendly patio in the lower village! We stopped by this evening and grabbed a great table overlooking Western Avenue with our two frenchies. Our server treated us quickly and was super friendly. She had drinks, menus and a fresh bowl of water for the pups before we knew it. The fish and chips were excellent! The haddock filet was big and perfectly fried in a delicious beer batter. The fries were crisp and delicious and it was a great meal. We'll be back with the pups for sure! read more

Our waitress was not nice from the minute we walked in and ask a simple question her answer was so I abrupt and rude. Not sure why we stayed but we did for one drink . We spent some time yesterday walking around Kennebunkport looking at some of the shops and enjoying the scenery. We ended up being hungry for lunch and decided to pop in to Ryan's Corner House to grab a bite to eat. The first thing we noticed were the dollar bills all over the ceiling- what a cool place. It reminded me of my time pub crawling through Ireland a few years ago- Ryan's featured authentic Irish music, cuisine, and decor. Our waitress was very attentive and was the only person in charge of both the bar and dining room tables. We ordered the following items: Seen in photos: haddock on a bun, cesar salad with lobster bisque, and beer battered haddock. Not pictured: Durty Nellie's Onion Rings and Conor Pass Potato Skins. All items were quite delicious and we had plenty to take home for leftovers (good portions). We did notice that there was an upcharge of $2.50 for a side salad instead of fries. Of note, this place often has live music when we have walked by it before. Looking forward to stopping in some evening soon for a pint and some live music. read more

We have been coming here for many years now and have always enjoyed it. Tonight was definitely an exception. I ordered a watermelon martini and when it came, it was not filled to the top. After taking a few sips of it, it was not good at all. A couple other people at our table sipped it also and said it didn't even have a watermelon flavor. We told our waitress and she got me another drink. My husband's cheeseburger was ordered medium rare and it came out well done. Our friend ordered chicken wings and they were overcooked and tasteless. Also, all our food came out at different times and not all at the same time. Upon receiving our bill the waitress did not take the watermelon martini off the bill. When we politely asked if it would be deducted off the bill, she replied that I had drank half of it. As an owner of a food establishment for 20 years, I would always want my customers to be satisfied, no matter what the cost for the restaurant. It was very shocking to all of us for the waitress not to just take the drink off the bill as a common courtesy to a customer. We will not be patronizing this restaurant again. read more

We were in KBPT with our infant son and as soon as we entered we were promptly told they don't allow strollers in the restaurant. Despite the fact that we had already tucked our stroller into a corner where it wouldn't be in anyone's way. They offered us to sit outside, in the rain, when it was 55 degrees out...with our baby. I ordered the prime rib as they have a Wednesday night special. I was really looking forward to a quality cut of beef as they consider this to be the restaurants signature dish. I asked for medium-rare and I was served extremely well done. The waitress was kind enough to take it back only for her return to tell me they only had well done left. Wouldn't it have been easier just to tell me that They didn't have medium rare then attempt to pass off extremely tough, well done prime rib? Not cool.
