This place is small and quaint, very very cute. They have an expansive menu with lots of healthy options. They have smoothies and juices. You can order to-do once you walk in and go to the register. I ordered two Ultimate salads one with shrimp one without shrimp to go. When I got back to work I noticed that they both had shrimp. I called back to have this corrected. Normally I would just have had the shrimp picked off however the person eating it can't have the shrimp touching the salad since she is very allergic to shrimp. I was told to bring back the salad. I had my daughter eat the one with shrimp . They charged me another $14.28 for the salad since I didn't bring it back. What were you going to do with the salad pick off the shrimp and hand it back to me. And offering me 2 free cookies doesn't make it right since I had to make two trips back to Rutabegorz. I have never sat down and eaten at this place, so this review is based upon a catering order. Customer service was outstanding. I placed my order over the phone and the person who helped me (didn't catch her name, whoever was answering the phones around 3:30 on July 25) was incredibly helpful. The group I was ordering for had various dietary restrictions and I had no idea what I should order. She was very patient and had great suggestions and recommendations for alterations to make it so I was able to order items that met everyone's needs, and even offered plates! Which I totally would have forgotten to ask for. When I went to pick up the order the people who helped me were also very kind and even offered to help me carry everything to my car. I ordered wraps and a Glassell salad and everyone enjoyed it, there was nothing left at the end of the meeting. What a fun place! The atmosphere is so cute; it's like a B&B. We seated ourselves and a waiter came by immediately to get our drink orders. The drinks at this place are HUGE! We each ordered an iced tea and a water, and between the two of us we almost finished one of each. My husband got the chili burrito, with chicken. When he ordered, the waitress double checked with him that he wanted meat on it, which I really appreciate as this place caters equally to meat-eaters, vegetarians, and vegans. It's nice that they are so committed! I got a fabulous ginger Thai salad. Husband and I swapped bites of our meals and we were equally impressed with both of them! I don't often give 5 stars to anyone but this place has been a go to place for years. I have taken everyone I know to share the experience. The staff is friendly, the food is amazing and offers everything from healthy options all the way to a pile of nacho's that should only be legal in Mexico. Note: I had to stop getting the nacho's because they where to awesome and I was not man enough to handle them. True story! We have tried all the locations and between you and me we love the Tustin one a little more, but that is commonly because parking is easier and it's less busy. I love rutabegorz! This location might be my fave one because they have a great patio! My favorite sandwich of all time is the ham apple cheddar on toasted Parmesan sourdough. It's literally the best! And you can order it with half a salad or soup if you want. Best salad is the fiesta bbq. The service at this location is excellent and always refilling drinks asap. One of the original great, healthy places to eat in Old Towne Orange, Rutas exudes old towne charm. They have heaping servings of healthy, down-to-earth food. My personal favorite is the Great Pot - a gooey cheesy pot of mixed veggies that you eat by dipping in pieces of squaw. It's literally served in the pot. If you go more than a few times, you'll notice that they're menu is essentially the same few ingredients remixed into different formats (wraps, salads, sandwiches). This place is great for vegetarians. So many variations of veggies. But don't let that stop you from coming if you eat meat because they have plates to satisfy you as well! I had such a good veggie sandwich here!! It felt so light yet filling, and it didn't leave me feeling overly full after finishing my plate. My boyfriend has gotten one of their salads and it came in a HUGE bowl. It must have been delicious because he ate the whole thing, with an extra side of dressing. I have gone to Chapman for 4 years and I just came here for the first time today! I came here for dinner and it was really good! I will definitely be back! The place is super cute and quirky. The restaurant is essentially a home turned into a restaurant. It is very cozy and homey with mis-matching chairs and wooden tables and checkered table clothes. The menu itself is very extensive. Ranging from breakfast items, wraps, sandwiches, salads, and known specials. The menu is literally over 5 pages. It is a pretty hefty pamphlet. Most of the salad and sandwiches and wraps are the same ingredients just in different forms. My friend and I went and got a very late lunch at 4:00pm and there was only one other table. It is self-seating so go ahead and explore the cozy restaurant to find a spot fit for you! I ordered the Super-Seed Salad and my friend ordered the Southwestern Quinoa Bowl. My salad consisted of spinach, heaping scoop of quinoa, chickpeas, snap peas, sunflower seeds, cranberries, corn, and this delicious zingy ginger dressing. It was pretty large and filling! I loved the dressing and it complimented really well with the other ingredients. My friend's dish looked amazing! She dipped her corn tortilla chips with the bowl. it looked like a yummy stew with the green chile verde on top! We also got dessert! I personally live by the motto: treat yo' self! I got the oatmeal choclate chip cookie and my friend got the regular chocolate. They warm up the cookie for you and it is oh so delicious!! It was ooey gooey on the inside and crispy on the outside. The cookie is also the size of Micheal Phelps hand so I recommend eating half and saving the other half for later. You can tell the cookies are homemade! The oatmeal cookie is something I will definitely come back for! I am pretty picky with my choclate chip cookies but I am telling you, it was the prime amount of ooey gooey-ness and crispyness on the outside. All in all, pretty good place! came here with my mom for lunch last week and enjoyed our experience. sat on the patio, which is large with lots of room. i had never been here but when we sat down and opened the menu we were overwhelmed! pages and pages of items, it's really hard to choose. it took us about 10 minutes to get through the menu and decide what we wanted and the server was prompt and friendly. i got the chinese chicken salad and my mom got the ham/apple/cheddar grilled cheese. we both really enjoyed our food- it was very fresh and the portions were large. i look forward to coming back here next time she's in town- she's already asked about it! the little gift shop next door is so cute too and both places together make for a fun little lunch and shopping adventure! read more

I have a natural aversion to things spelled with a "z" at the end. Same with things spelled with a "k" instead of a "c." Like pretty much every metal band known to man. So, when I heard the name name "Rutabegorz" for the first time, I'm thinking obnoxious 909ers, Mountain Dew, and Korn. This place kouldn't be further from that, though. Who know why they got hoodwinked into thinking that ending your business name with a "z" waz a good idea, but that's pretty much the only thing they got wrong. Perfectly located in Old Towne Orange, absolutely splendid patio, and a menu that goes on for days. I think I could eat here everyday for a year and still not have tried everything on that massive menu. I know, I know, you're thinking "Ugh, massive menu. Like Shorehouse where it's page after page of greasy crap." Hey, stop jumping to conclusions. Sheesh. No, the menu is filled to the brim with healthy options for sandwiches, salads, and wraps. My WW point tracker will be happy today. I opted for turkey sandwich with cranberry, cream cheese, and walnutz. I know, right? Walnutz? In a sandwich? It was superb. Pair that with a giant glass of tropical tea, and a glorious spring day, and I'm a happy kamper. Well, whatever I may be craving on any particular day, Rutabegorz will have me covered because this place has it all. And what ever I do order, I always make sure I order it with a side of their famous candied walnuts. Those tasty little things make any meal taste better. Rutabegorz, which is located in Old Town Orange, is a pretty big restaurant that was actually a house before it was converted into a restaurant. Ruta has many tables indoors and out. Their outdoor patio is where I prefer to sit because it is littered with plants, flowers and big umbrellas that keep you shaded from the warm sun. This place is usually always packed full of students from the nearby university. This is by far my favorite place to eat lunch when I'm working in the area. In fact, this is one of my favorite lunch spots of all time. I have eaten lunch here at least ten times in the past few months. I have tried many things on their menu. Their menu consists of many verities of sandwiches, salads, wraps, soups, dinner entrees, desserts, shakes and more. They also have many great monthly specials. They also offer homemade dip specials that change monthly that only cost forty cents per order. These forty cent dips are served with lots of tortilla chips. So far the dips I have tried have been their jalapeño cream cheese dip, chipotle carrot dip and a spicy spinach and cheese dip. All three dips were great but my favorite was the chipotle carrot. Here I will list some of the food I have ordered and a brief description of them Garlic Chicken Wrap- This gigantic wrap is made with a whole wheat tortilla and is stuffed with garlic chicken, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, feta cheese and balsamic dressing. I also added their candied walnuts to my wrap. Garlic Chicken Salad- This HUGE salad is defiantly my favorite salad I have ever had. It is made with fresh lettuce, garlic chicken, avocados, crunchy noodles, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, candied walnuts and feta cheese. They have at least ten different types of salad dressings on their menu but the one I always get is their Thai peanut. It is so delicious. Strawberry Chicken Sandwich- This tasty sandwich is only available during strawberry season. They take squaw bread and fill it with fresh, plump pieces of strawberries, chunks of chicken, lettuce, avocado, feta cheese and a light coat of mayo. I also added candied walnuts to this sandwich. Mexican Crepes- Two crepes filled with steak, beans, rice and sour cream and topped with cheese and red sauce. I have also tried many other things on their menu that were equally amazing as the things I listed above but the reason I listed these items is because I actually have pictures of them. For dessert I have tried many of their awesome sweet treats. Here is a quick list of my favorite things Almond Mocha Shake- This shake is made with both vanilla and chocolate ice cream, almond syrup, coffee and whipped cream. Peanut Butter Brownie- Big, moist chocolate brownie filled with their candied walnuts and topped with creamy peanut butter and pieces of Reese's PB cups. Lone Ranger Cookie- This is the king of cookies. This crunchy bad boy is made with corn flakes, walnuts and coconut shavings. I love this cookie. The prices and service here are great. Every waitress that has waited on me here has been super friendly and attentive. Even if Ruta is jammed packed it has never taken more than ten minutes to receive my food. Almost everything on their menu is under ten bucks, which is awesome. If you're ever in the city of Orange and are looking for a place to have lunch then look no further that Rutabegorz. Everything about this place is amazing. Especially their candied walnuts, which, as you can tell from my review, go good on anything. read more
