I modified my order, and ended up with a vegetarian taco, a spicy fried chicken taco, and some chips and queso. The veggie taco had a variety of fresh ingredients, but didnt have much in the way of seasoning. The queso was top notch. Great consistency and flavor. Chips were tasty. My only issue was the spicy fried chicken taco was cold. I thought for a moment it was just because there were a lot of cold toppings (ranch, slaw, and the buffalo sauce), but after poking through the chicken, the whole piece was cold throughout. First off, the food was great. They are strict with the social distancing rules and capacity they have set, constantly telling people when they reach the amount to wait outside, Which is nice. The only problem was the wait and the work being done. There were about five people in kitchen with two of them doing the bulk of the work. Maybe new hires being trained? I've worked in the food service industry, I understand. But this seemed a little lopsided in terms of productivity. One was definitely in charge or possibly just the most senior member and was visibly upset. A good amount of people waiting. One of the workers seemed to be pacing and trying to figure out what to do, just looking at receipts. About 45 minutes after my order was placed someone came up and asked what my name was on the order. Didn't get my food until an hour wait. Saw them packing it up. So went closer to the counter. Holding my two glass bottle cokes. The one bagging it up told them to put them back. That worker came up to me and said they were out of the coke I ordered. I mentioned I just saw her holding them. I was told "they're for someone else." That confused me, am I not the next order up? Can't they just tell the other person who ordered they were out? Ordered online with a notice saying the order will be ready in 15 min. Hoping to hop out the car and pick up food. My order shouldn't have been too out of the ordinary for them. 10 tacos and two drinks seems pretty straight forward. I feel bad for the people who actually know what they're doing there and working hard. Being backed up is not fun. Just hoping this restaurant would be ready for the amount of orders, especially with the amount of people there. Overall it was a long and frustrating experience. I'd say if it isn't busy go for it. My grandkids and I were hungry and wanted to grab a bite, so we stopped in Rusty's. The worker took our order, a youngster with his hair hanging over his face who later was preparing food. Minimal communication but for sure the sale device asks for a tip before the customer has a chance to determine the level of service. When Rusty's says small order of chips and salsa, they mean an okay portion of salsa with about 10 chips, really small. Then we waited for a loooooong time. On to the food... spicy chicken taco: definitely spicy and definitely tasty. Just the right amount of kick and a nice cooling ranch to help keep your taste buds in check. Fajita Steak taco: Super tasty and tender steak with the usual grilled veggies. Chips and Queso: not much to be said, warm tortilla chips with a standard yummy and warm queso. I love Rusty taco. It's a great place for a very casual taco+margarita experience. It's simple menu and vibe is well executed. The interior has the tin and concrete vibe, with a quaint outdoor patio. It reminds me of a simple taco joint in Texas, which brings nostalgia into the mix when I am enjoying my well-made tacos. The service is always great and they have some of the best chips and queso in town. The cheap margaritas with the take home souvenir cups are hard to beat. I am a frequent here, love the fried fish taco, the rusty taco, and anything with the bbq. Their nachos look great but haven't tried those yet. We had a restaurant.com voucher so it was the perfect excuse to end our weekend with dinner here. We needed to spend a minimum of $45, which we thought would be a stretch, but ultimately came out to maybe 14 tacos + chips and salsa for 2 adults + 1 toddler. The tacos aren't huge by any means, so it honestly wasn't too difficult for us (we're big eaters, what can I say). I left quite full, but not uncomfortably so. The food came out quickly, and was pretty good. My favorite tacos were the rusty, the fried chicken (original), fried shrimp, and slow-roasted pork. Oh, and the steak breakfast one was good, too. Majority of the tacos came with 1 tortilla, but a select few came with 2 -- not sure how they differentiate it, because my carne asada came with 1 but definitely needed 2 as it fell apart. I enjoyed the chips and salsa and felt it was a decent amount for the price ($2.50). I see that the owner/manager has replied to other comments about the food being pricey, but I have to agree with others that for what you're getting, it might be a tad expensive. I haven't been to many other taco joints in the area yet, so I can't speak to their size, quality, or price, but I don't see myself going out of my way to come back. It was good, but not THAT good to justify ~$3 per taco. I'd much rather make tacos myself at home or get some more hole-in-the-wall street tacos somewhere. BUT, I think it is worth a try, and it is a fun place to try different types of tacos, and if we had more of a disposable income, I could see us coming back more often. The service was next to nonexistent, however the way the restaurant is set up I guess that was bound to happen. Though the food wasn't phenomenal, it wasn't bad either. So why two stars? Well Rusty's Tacos has TV's inside which is a cool feature if there's a soccer/football game and you plan to stay. However, while I was there the TV was on and 50 Shades of Grey was playing for all of the restaurant to watch. Seeing sex scenes while trying to enjoy my food surrounded by children and families was really not fun. This is a new taco place that is located just outside of the Cornado shopping mall. The margaritas are amazing, whether you get it frozen or not. Both strawberry and lime are good! The tacos are very filling, my favorite is the pork tacos. Unlike other taco places... Rusty taco is very generous with the amount of meat that they put on their tacos. Rusty Taco is the type of restaurant that Coronado Mall desperately needed. The tacos are tasty, reasonably-portioned, and a good price. They will cost you a bit more than your average street taco, coming in at about $3-4 a pop. But don't be dissuaded, they're well worth it! Also, there are margaritas, so you can sip away while your friends shop until they drop at the Container Store! My only (minor) complaint is that there was no way of knowing which tacos were which when they came out. A group of three of us ordered three tacos each, so it was hard to separate them out from the communal trays they came out on.
