An amazing first time experience. The staff was super friendly and gave some advice on ordering. We ordered the chips and queso. The chips are hot and fresh and were refilled once the manager came around to ask how our meal was and realized we still had some queso left. The tacos were amazing and came out fresh and fast. They had some homemade salsa that were mild, medium and hot. Very tasty and delicious. We will definitely be back to visit and come back often. Came here on a whim to try their tacos! THEY ARE FANTASTIC! I wanted carne asada but they were out. The cashier recommended the Baja Shrimp Taco, The Rusty Taco and the Fried Chicken Taco. They were all so good especially with a margarita! The ambiance is nice and conducive to a taco stand. The manager was friendly and was working hard in the open kitchen. Rusty's tacos reminds me of the Torchy's taco chain in central Texas, but on a more "corporate" level. The food is good, but a bit pricey for what you get ($10 for two tacos and a drink). Portion size could be a bit bigger (most street tacos seem to come with two tortillas to accommodate the filling vs. here there is only one cause that's all you need), the brisket was a bit overcooked, but all in all a decent product. The fish taco breading needed flavor and was drowned by the jalapeno crema. The rusty taco had pineapple salsa but didn't add to the flavor...the meat was super smoky and not al pastor like. My fave and simplest was the Texican...lots of flavor but very greasy! I may go back and try some other tacos but it won't be too soon. Check updates below! If you are from Albuquerque, you probably have your go to taco spot. I do. I actually have three. I decided to give Rusty Taco a try since it's a one minute walk from my job. I ordered two #2 pork tacos. They were decent. The reason for the low rating? It took 15 minutes. I have 20+ years in the full service restaurant industry. If our orders take that long we need to get a manager involved. There is really no reason for two shredded pork tacos to take that long. Especially if there are only four tables in the place. If you are shopping and wanna eat before you leave the mall... Check them out. If you want really good tacos and not have to wait... Find somewhere else. Update: having worked in the industry for as long as I have, I also understand that first impressions are everything. I walked out fast because I had to get to work. Didn't have time to chat. Ive passed this place dozens of times every time I've gone to Coronado center and this time I figured it was about time I tried it. I liked that the menu was posted outside by the entrance. When I saw they offered churros well I couldn't help myself so had to get one for each of us. The food didn't take long and was hand delivered to our table. At the corner of the kitchen by the drink station was a small fridge with dIferent types oof salsa and lemons along with creamers. My dad tried all 3 different salsas. He said the chipotle colored one was the spiciest. The tacos themselves were a little spicy but they were delicious. At first when I saw them I wasn't sure if I shoulld have ordered a third taco seeing as they were a bit smaller than I I'd anticipated. After eating the 2 tacos and the churro I have to say I was surprisingly content. The churro didn't have a lot of cinnamon which admittedly I had expected more on the outside but it did give more flavor to the dough they used and filling inside. It's okay. The customer service is great. Everything else is very average. The tacos are insanely small. When you're pumping out $3.50 per taco, it adds up quick if you're trying to fill up. They've got 3 types of salsa and it's a loud setting so if you're not into that this isn't the place for you. The overall design, however is rather gloss industrial, with shiny nonslip diamond plates covering the countertop and unpainted concrete floors. Not quite the aesthetic one would expect from something....rusty. Design sense aside, however, the food here is tasty and reasonably priced, at least for being in a mall. The namesake rusty taco is decent, but what youre really after here is the smokey and delicious brisket taco, or the spicy baja shrimp taco. A good place to stop if youre nearby. read more

TL;DR: mediocre brisket taco - OK, but meat gets overpowered by sauce. fish taco - below average tilapia shrimp - pretty good, better than the other two. Sauces - habanero is sweet, Roja and verde are meh. -------- Can go to a taqueria, and pay less for better tacos. -------- Addendum: I was told the fish is cod in the below comment. I've been waiting for Rusty Taco to open in Albuquerque and it's finally here. This place is actually a franchise out of Texas however it's locally owned/operated - which is really great! They specialize in Mexican street-style tacos. Being born and raised in NM, I'm a sucker for our traditional style taco so it's really important to note that this is DIFFERENT, in a good way. Think of this place as a melting pot of tacos, that offer up unique options like fried chicken, brisket and Tex-Mex varieties. They even have a green chile chicken option - a nod to NM!! One of the best things about this place is that it's super affordable - the per taco price is no more than $3 and the portions are good. Ok, on to the good stuff.. Let's talk food. Chips, salsa, queso & guac: The chips were fresh with just the right amount of salt. The salsa and queso were my favorite. The salsa was super fresh and had just the right amount of heat. The queso was spicy and creamy but not greasy which is SO important to me - ORDER THE QUESO! The guacamole was good.. I had to add a bit more salt and lime to make it to my liking. Tacos: #8 Baja Ship Taco - you can order this taco with either grilled or crispy shrimp - I ordered it crispy! Overall, it was really good. The shrimp was cooked just right and was paired with a creamy Baja sauce, cilantro and red cabbage. What I liked the most about this taco is that they didn't skimp on the shrimp and Baja sauce! #10 Fried Chicken Taco - full disclosure, FRIED CHICKEN IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE FOODS so naturally I had to try this taco. You can order this taco three different ways. I ordered it original. It's served with spicy jalapeño ranch, slaw and cilantro and was really tasty. The piece of chicken was HUGE and so good. The sauce really wrapped it all together and was super tasty - I would have loved just a bit more sauce. During my meal I washed everything down with a frozen margarita which was good.
