Chicken avocado sandwich
Bill W.

I love this little place in Old Mandeville. The food here is great, and the service is always on point. Came here today to get out of the house on a weekday to grab a bite and spend time near the lakefront. Their gumbo is always delicious and the poboy was packed with roast beef. My fiancée had the chicken avocado sandwich and she brought half of it home because it was so big. If you're ever in the neighborhood, stop in. You won't be disappointed.

Hijacked Burger+onion string and fried green tomatoes.

The Rusty Pelican is our go to place when we're in Mandeville. We love the burgers and poboys. My husband ordered the Hijacked burger and loved it and I always get the half and half fried shrimp and roast beef poboy(not pictured). Delicious!

My go to restaurant when I visit the NorthShore. You order at the counter and find a place to sit afterwards. The food was delivered in under 10 minutes. Plenty of seating inside and out side . Food is always fresh, flavorful, and served hot. The team is always friendly and welcoming. The menu has a wide variety of seafood ( fried grilled), burgers, sandwiches, and salads. The portions are large and sometimes can be shared. You'll definitely get your moneys worth and will not leave hungry! The pictures don't do justice!

Went for lunch today, was very good. The person taking orders was very friendly and helpful. It's a small but nice space, and very busy! Ordered fried shrimp tacos and blackened chicken Cesar salad. They also had on special fried okra, which I always order when it's available! It did not disappoint!

We came for dinner. Husband wanted blue crab and he got it. The parking lot was decent and vehicles also parked along side the establishment. The decor inside and outside was put together well. Clean and friendly. We went to the counter to order and pay. We found our own seat and the food was brought out when ready. Establishment was well lit, open seating with clean restrooms. I appreciate that. Food was great quality for the value. We were able to take our time and enjoy ourselves. Really enjoyed that this was nestled on the Corner of Girod and Monroe in the Heart of Old Mandeville. We were told this was a favorite stop for locals so we had to check it out. Casual dining experience. Salad was fresh and Seafood was delicious. They support local beers as well as a selection of old standards and feature a full-service drink bar.

Turkey Avocado Sandwich

I got the turkey avocado sandwhich and subbed the turkey for a grilled chicken breast, absolutely delish . The jalapeño cheddar bread was fresh and tasted so good. I will definitely be back!

The Smoke in the restaurant.

Today the staff had her work through adversity due to the fact the exhaust vent was not working. It looks like the fog came in from Lake Pontchartrain but it is not fog season. That's off to the staff, but dealing with adversity and working through it if you ever think you have a bad always remember it could be worse as normal for food was delicious.

This place stays busy. The burgers are good and the fries are actually better than McDonald's, which is quite a feet in itself. I cannot, however recommend the prime rib sandwich. It was full of gristle and I really couldn't eat it. Otherwise the menu is full of burgers, sandwiches, Poboys and seafood and tacos, if you have a bunch of kids, this is the place to go

Delicious food & top-notch service! Came during the lunch rush & they got people fed & on their way efficiently, plus our food was super fresh. Sat at the bar & whole place was really clean & staff was professional & very friendly. Will definitely be back!

Seafood Platter with an Soft Shell Crab added

We started our afternoon with an incredible drive across the 24 mile bridge connecting Metairie, LA to Mandeville, LA (Lake Ponchartrain Causeway, the world's longest continuous bridge). It was a clear day, so the water looked amazing. We are back again!! I ordered two seafood platters for my party of four. On one platter we substituted extra fish for the oysters, and substituted fried okra (definitely, NOT on my platter!) for the fries. On my platter, I added a soft shell crab. OMG!!!! On a seafood platter is fish, shrimp, crawfish tails, oysters, carb cake, and fries. My wife and I always split the platter. It is a fantastic value! From the moment we walked into the door, we were greeted warmly as we proceeded to the order counter (you order, pay and then select a table). The lady (I was eating so hard, I who provided service at our table was super attentive throughout our meal. She made sure we had EVERYTHING we needed to make our time in the restaurant awesome. There are tables outside with large umbrellas, and lots of seating inside. Folks, come see the awesomeness of Lake Pontchartrain and taste the deliciousness of the Rusty Pelican for yourself! Once you've been once, you'll be back and back, and back again!

Fried jalapeños

Great service and food at good prices. Everything was fried to perfection! The artichokes were my favorite, but my parents loved their platter. I had the burger with the fried green tomatoes, and it was so amazing I forgot to take a picture. If you come to this quaint lil town, I'd say this place is a must if you like good American bar food.

We got there before the rush thank goodness, since I am not sure they take reservations or not, this place does get pretty packed. And now I know why. I have to give props to the hostess; she did an incredible job and she used old school tools like paper and pen to keep track of everyone. Anyway, after a brief 15-minute wait and watching incredible looking dishes walk past our noses, we were seated. I knew right away what I wanted. I ordered the smothered brie as an app. The hubs ordered the pancakes, and I ordered the grilled chicken strawberry salad. The smothered brie is literally Fall flavors on a plate. I felt like I was at Thanksgiving dinner and I loved it! Brie + honey + pecans + apples in a rich sauce to dip your bread into is my kind of dish! I felt like I needed a hot toddy to go with it. When entrees came out, I wasn't sure it could top that app, but it did. Those pancakes though! There was something about them, addictive! There was a crispiness on the edges, it wasn't burnt, but crispy and full of the sugary addictive flavor that I kept going back for more. I know you say a pancake is a pancake, but these were different and I haven't stopped talking about them. Then that salad, ok, it's hard to sell a salad but this one is really good. Fresh ingredients, delicious dressing, and huge. I could only eat half. I have not eaten that much on the North Shore, but this is for sure, one the best!

We got tacos and burgers. The drink was a watermelon cocktail. Everything was just mediocre unfortunately. I didn't think the tacos had good flavor, no wow factor. The drink was a bit watered down and the burger was just Ok, sort of bland, too. I think of all the places we tried while visiting the Northshore area, this may have been our least favorite. But it does have ambience going for it. It just needs better flavors in their food.

We have our favorites on both sides of the lake, but I recently read some great reviews somewhere online about Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen with locations in both Mandeville and Covington. After speaking with our friends we decided to dine at the Covington location of Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen. Inside the entrance, the restaurant posts their policy that you will not be seated at a table until all parties have arrived, which is understandable considering the huge amount of business they have. My wife and I arrived before our friends who were running a little late. The Hostess, Jill, asked me how many in our party and I told her four, but the other couple was running late and would be arriving in about 20 minutes. We took a seat in the empty waiting area inside the entrance. The restaurant appeared to have only one or two empty tables available inside when I arrived on a beautiful day. Five to ten minutes later the waiting area was full (approx. ten people). The restaurant was extremely noisy with all their customers enjoying their meals and conversing with friends/family. I noticed that there were approximately ten tables located in front of the restaurant in a beautiful covered patio, so I asked Jill if we could have a table outside once our friends arrived in about five more minutes because one of them was somewhat physically handicapped. There was only one empty table in the patio at the time. Jill explained that since she had a reservation in the patio for a party of eight that would be arriving soon, so she had been holding it for another available outside table to put together to accommodate this party. However, she said she would gladly give us the table. By this time, the waiting room was full of people and overflowing outside the entrance. I had given my seat to a lady and stepped outside to wait for my friends, who I noticed had arrived and parking their car. I told Jill and she seated us at the table in the patio. The four of us ordered different things on the menu, which were fantastic. Although the restaurant was packed, the waitress AND Jill visited our table several times to ensure we were enjoying our meals. Crazy Pig Southern Kitchens' ambiance, service, menu items (along with portion sizes) and prices were absolutely astounding. We were all very impressed and grateful for a beautiful dining experience. We gave ourselves an hour and a half, enough time to eat and get to our next planned and scheduled event that day. So, we weren't in a rush. We get in the quickly moving line to order our food at the counter. I order a salmon bagel and the hubs ordered a meatball ciabatta. We sit down and I noticed it is a very busy place. It is a very large place and I noticed how clean everything was and how efficient all the workers were at getting the food out. One after the other, food was coming out like an assembly line and the food looked good, too. But the assembly line apparently stopped, no orders were coming out, and we waited about 20 or 25 minutes. At least we had our drinks because it is a counter service type establishment. We noticed stacks and stacks of 'to go' orders were being placed in the counter area. After nearly 35 or 40 minutes we get our food. Some guy had ordered a 'football teams' worth amount of food. So, although it was not the restaurant's fault, it was frustrating the timing that our order was f course put in right after the guy that ordered 20 dishes. I get my bagel to try to eat quickly, since now we are in a little bit of a rush. And the bagel couldn't have been more complicated to eat. I just wanted a complete lox bagel but it was a deconstructed bagel where I had to put the thing together. I would have enjoyed the meal a little better had my bagel been properly served, like for example, the way Flour Moon serves their bagels to customers. I don't know if we will be back because I rarely visit the Northshore, this was a special occasion. I guess if I do come back, I would like to try one or two of the desserts from the case. Those looked really good.
