Food is, at best, mediocre pub fare. Granted, the Rusty Bull is a craft brewery so beer is their specialty and some flexibility can be allowed for sub-par food. But unfortunately even the beer was just ok. Service is "self-serve," order at the bar, kind of thing. I can't even say that this is a dive bar I'd like to hang out in if I was a local - it was just not a place I'd want to spend time in. Probably won't be back. This would be a great brewery for you to stop at if you're just casually walking down King Street but definitely not a go to spot if you have to drive there. The only parking is street parking which is few and far between on King. The beer selection was lackluster. The burger options looked appealing, but the appetizers are frozen food reheated. I decided to go there during tacos and trashy trivia on Thursday. The happy hour is only two dollars off beers and selected appetizers which isn't the best around Charleston. The taco sounded great in theory, but was just pulled pork with nacho cheese on top of it. The trivia prizes were great, but the trivia host was very crude and thought he was hilarious. read more

Great spot in Downtown Charleston to take a break and grab a beer and some grub. Seating is open and they have two bars, one outside on their patio, to order from. Even with how busy it was the day we were there (day after Thanksgiving), ordering was fairly quick and our food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Both my mom and I enjoyed the beers we had and will definitely be back the next time we are in town. One thing to keep in mind is they do charge a 3% fee if you use a credit card, so maybe stick some cash in your pocket before heading there. read more

We stopped by for a few quick beverages and a snack during an afternoon baking in the Charleston heat and melting in the humidity. We were instructed to choose a table ourselves and order at the bar. The menu is standard bar fare. We weren't going crazy with it so just ordered boiled peanuts to munch on. We also ordered some of their beers a water, and a tea for hydration. Unfortunately, they didn't have the beer GF wanted, despite it being on the menu. The beer we ordered did the trick, was nothing I would feel compelled to order again. The boiled peanuts were fantastic. I'm from NY and have never eaten this in my life. I literally had to google how to eat these things. I have no frame of reference on this but they were extremely salty. Very good! But could have been a touch less salty. I would like to add that they came out in about 2 seconds after I placed the order, which was nice. The bartender who took our order was nice and friendly, seemed like she cared about our experience. We weren't given any napkins tho so the boiled peanut juice dripped all down my arms and all over my hands and I can't go on my phone with boiled peanut juice hands. We stopped in here for lunch today as we were wandering around Charleston- didn't have much time to research, ton of people in town due to a cruise ship in port, so we grabbed last two seats at the bar. Hubs had one of the tap beers, and I had a glass of Pinot Grigio ($10). I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and hubs had the club sandwich with potato salad. Ok full disclosure, I had low expectations for this place going in but we were hungry and a tad hungover. It is self service which I found a bit annoying but since we were just having a quick lunch, it worked out just fine. Very casual bar vibe that was lively for a Saturday lunch. Appears to be a fun place to hang out, drink beer, watch sports and maybe even throw axes too. Anyway, we were there for a quick bite and ordered the wedge salad and the burger special. Burger was a double smash patty that had the perfect crispy edges but still a little pink inside and not dry at all. Topped with a pickled green tomato, pimento cheese, bacon, and onion fig jam on a buttery toasted pretzel bun.... Oh so good! Like really so good! That pickled tomato was the perfect "sour" bite to offset the heaviness of the cheese and bacon and oh my, it all worked so well together with the pretzel bun taking it to the finish line. The wedge was respectable with tons of blue cheese crumbles and fresh crunchy lettuce. All in all we were super happy we stumbled on it and I may still be thinking about that burger...... read more

I am still undecided as I write this review. First thoughts walking in were that it is pretty dark inside and smells a little funky, but what brewery doesn't. A few good beer options, not too many liquors or non alcoholic options - I believe it was coke, Diet Coke, or sprite. The bartenders seemed young and uninformed and extremely uninterested in conversation with guests. Menus are on QR codes and the beer list is behind the bar on the wall.. multiple times I heard guests ask the bartenders what type of beers they had and the response each time was "it's on the wall". The food was okay, typical bar/brewery options so not too much to write home about. Overall, good place to stop and cool off in the AC and maybe have a beer or two but not much else. read more

Came in on a whim with the Mrs and ordered the watermelon marg and a rum concoction (they don't have a rum cocktail on the menu) Neither drink was very good - the watermelon marg is made with watermelon Red Bull which I thought was a great idea until I tasted it. This tavern is heaven in Charleston, SC! Every time work brings me to Charleston, I stay in the Historic District and make my way promptly to Rusty Bull Downtown Taproom + Restaurant! They have the best craft beers and the current featured beer is their Orangutang Tangerine Pale Ale, which is delicious. My all time favorite is their Berry Stomp! It is a light wheat beer with berry puree brewed in! My go-to food is their Tachos, which are tots that are topped with a generous amount of beer cheese, pickled jalapeños, and more peppers! My husband adores the Mini Corndogs. I've also had their Honey Hot Chicken Sandwich that has homemade pimento cheese on it. Do yourself a favor, go to Rusty Bull and become a frequenter, too! read more

Located on lower King, RB is a nice contrast to its sister location in N CHS! It has an amazing food option as well as some additional drinks that the other spot does not offer. I got the Garlic Parm Wings and paired it with the Saltwater Cerveza. Wings are large, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The flavor is great but it isnt overwhelming or too saucy, which i love! I got a side of ranch that is made in house and DELICIOUS!! I am a sucker for a good ranch and let me tell you... mouth watering. My beer was great and I recommend it for someone who like a lighter beer or lager. It is similar to corona but maybe a bit better flavor. The staff here is kind and very helpful! I went a week ago and can't remember the bartenders name, maybe Sean? Anyway great guy, super helpful in choosing a drink I would love and had a great convo since it was a little slow when i went. The location itself is great, if you can't get street parking there are a few garages close by! There is great inside dining but my pull was to the outside patio and bar. You could catch me here on a nice day for sure! It gets a 4 because all the tables were sticky. But good news is, the staff was delightful. The wedge salad was good, I'd say it's hard to mess one up but yeah someone could. Theirs was well balanced, I'm a salad dressing lover and could have used more but it honestly didn't need any more. Unfortunately the Totchos weren't a hit at the table but I'm sure someone out there loves them, fun idea for sure. The pita for the Pimento cheese was delicious, everyone has a different spin on pimento cheese; theirs is smooth and like a cheese ball. I do prefer to see my cheddar cheese and pimentos but it's a preference. Liked having options of pita, bell pepper and cucumbers to go with it. I ordered the Sriracha ranch wings, they were a little mild for me but I also eat sriracha on boiled eggs . The wings were cooked well. We really wanted to like this place. We were in Charleston for one night and wanted to check out a few local breweries. Stopped in for few beers and a bite to eat. There were two people behind the bar and four people seated at the bar (including us). The other two were obviously local regulars. We ordered a beer and told the bartender we were going to order food but hadn't decided yet. We finished our beer. The two bartenders chatted with the regulars and each other the entire time. Collectively they walked by us and our empty glasses 8 times. Never came back to take our food order or asked if we wanted another beer. We tried to get their attention but they just kept walking by not making eye contact. It's a shame because it's a cute place. We travel a lot and try to visit the local breweries wherever we go (probably have been to 150 +). This one not even in the top 125. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. read more

Terrible Customer Experience from manager "MARK"!! This was my 4th visit here at Rusty Bull downtown. I live in Florida and actually became fond of the patty melt and wings. Each time I brought a guess who could experience Rusty Bull meaning "new customers and $$"". Today's visit I brought my son visiting from Michigan. Speaking very highly of this place and mouth watering ready to sink my teeth into some wings I was faced with a disappointing experience from the manager Mark. Here's the story short and sweet. I do not eat drums only flat. I'm a traveler and tend to just order the wings even when they say "sorry we can't do all flats". Typically I would get half drums and half flats so I became accustomed to paying the same price for only half the wings. I'm good with that. My server stated that I would most likely get all drums...????? I asked to speak to the manager to "Only ask and confirm if I can at least get 3 flats and 3 drums". Why would I pay $12 for 6 pieces and only get 1 or zero flats???? Server said manager will be out to speak to me shortly. It was not short but he had us wait a while. Then when he did came out his demeanor and disposition was that of frustration with me BEFORE I could even state my reasoning for calling him. He burst out before even asking me how could he help me "Sorry we just can't do all flats" I stated "That's NOT why I called you but only to ask if I could at least get half drums and half flats due to my server saying I would get all drums". He then rudely said "Yes you will" and walked away. Needless to say my feelings was hurt and I left not wanting anything except paying for the drinks we had partake before this terrible experience. Mark - I was a returning customer from out of town; spent 40-45 mins finding parking just to visit your establishment. Please next time, treat each customer as if it was your grand opening. We ordered at the bar quick and received our food SO quick even though it was quite busy! We stopped in for a quick drink on a busy Saturday afternoon on King St. It was...fine. I enjoy exploring craft breweries on my travels, and this one won't be one I remember for being anything special. We had the Berry Stomp and the Juice Juice, and again- they were fine. Not a ton of flavor to the Berry Stomp, but at least it wasn't syrupy as a lot of fruited wheats can be. The college kids seemed to be enjoying themselves, as they definitely cater to a younger crowd. The bar felt just like any other sports/college bar you've been to a thousand times before. read more

Me and my girlfriend were walking along King Street looking for a good place for dinner. We liked the atmosphere as soon as we stepped inside and soon figured out how the system works. There were quite a few people in line at the bar but it didn't take long for us to figure out what we wanted before it was our turn. The staff was very friendly and you could tell that they enjoy what they do there. My girlfriend loved her burger! They messed up mine but it was corrected quickly and it still tasted great. If you like burgers, you should try this place out. We were glad we came. The menu was glaringly tailored to the younger generations - mini corn dogs, pizza rolls, cheese curds, tater tots burgers etc. - a munchie haven for late night revelers.
