We had dinner at Clarke's since we stayed in Tropic and there's really nothing else there. So we weren't expecting much, and they exceeded our expectations by a mile! They started us out with tasty warm bread - really hit the spot after a long day of hiking. We ordered glasses of wine, Zin for me, Merlot for her. They tasted exactly the same, which made us think they were both poured out of the same house barrel. At least it was decent wine. I ordered the trout, and when the waitress brought me a plate of pink fish, at first I thought she brought the salmon by mistake. When I asked her why it was so red, she was ready with the reply that the fish was farm raised and "they feed them shrimp" which makes them turn red. From the way she explained it, it was clear I wasn't the first customer to have asked. Anyway, the trout tasted great, shrimp and all. My wife had the quesadia, which was "super good". Both of our portions were huge, yet reasonably priced. The desserts looked yummy, but we were too stuffed by that time to try them. Overall, a great little restaurant in the middle of nowhere. Oh my they really do have free copies of the Book of Mormon lying around! I expected good fish and good sweet potato fries based on what Yelpers here have written about. Not so - Mango salmon was fine, but nothing impressive - Coconut tilapia was fine, but nothing impressive - Western burger was good, but it better be good given that it was probably a billion calories - Fries (sweet potato and seasoned) tasted bland to me. I feel like I can find better sweet potato fries at any sandwich place in California You're served freshly baked bread and butter too! That was pretty good. For breakfast, I thought the pancakes were okay but a bit too sticky; they stuck to the ridges of my teeth, which I found really bothersome Service was nice and friendly. I wish I could give 0 stars. We went here with my family on 4/14/21 to have dinner. First of all, none of the workers cared enough to have us seated even though there was NO ONE in there. After about 10mins of waiting one of them finally took us to a table. I had to ask for the kids menu for my son twice. It looked like our waiter only cared about what my uncle wanted to order, since he got his drink order without asking the rest of us about what we wanted to order. Their regular menu said that "the beverages and desserts menu was on the side of our table" which it wasn't, so I asked for it to see what juices, sodas and hot beverages they had since it was super cold and I really wanted to have a hot tea or hot chocolate. I asked for it 3 times, after the third time our waiter brought out the alcoholic beverages menu which we already had on our table and that wasn't what I was asking for, so I ended up not ordering any drinks at all. We all ordered steak, which was RAW and had no taste at all. It was DISGUSTING. The orange juice my mom ordered was the worst as well. We're not picky at all but we definitely had the worst meals of our lives at this place. We didn't even finish our food and left hungry and very disappointed. Great atmosphere. We sat on the patio with our dog and it was awesome. The beef fajita wrap was crazy good and filling. The sweet potato fries were good as well. Clarke's saved us from having to cook in 20 degree weather at our Bryce campsite, but the food was just okay for the price and the trek. Sounds like a lot of other places are highly touristy and over-priced. I had the quesadillas, which were a surprisingly large portion, and my partner for the famed rainbow trout which was also decent. We checked in at about 9pm and ordered a taco plate for my wife and grilled chicken for me. We were VERY hungry! The food was a disaster. Everything was brutally overcooked, tasted terribly and was basically uneatable. I served in the Army and know what terrible food tastes like. This food did beat it by far! We ended up letting the plates more or less untouched, and stuck with the complimentary bread they served (which was good). When I asked for the bill, I asked politely if there is a problem with the kitchen team. The answer was no, the food is usually very good and that was it. No apologies or comment. So, this was a really bad experience. Since in Tropic there is no cell phone reception, people might have a hard time to check reviews before going online.... so, there will still be a line of tourists every night at this place :-) read more

The portions were generous and our waitress Victoria was friendly and helpful with the kids meals. They could use more staff because poor Victoria was responsible for tables on the outside patio as well as inside and she was constantly on the move. The staff were nice and that's the only reason I'm giving them 1 star instead of 0. We ordered the Alfredo, a quesadilla, and a side salad. The Alfredo were just greasy noodles in a tiny bit of flavorless sauce topped with broccoli, assorted shredded cheese, and a soggy attempt at garlic bread. We couldn't eat it because we love ourselves. The quesadilla must have been microwaved because there was no evidence of it ever seeing a pan and the cheese was only fully melted in 1 out of the 7 or 8 quesadilla slices. The basic side salad was the best thing we had and it must have gone straight from a bag to our plate. I wish we had ordered 3 more of those. This place was our last hope at dinner after everywhere else was packed and not taking more orders, but honestly I wish we had eaten food from the convenience store next door instead of spending $44 on a meal that a 10 year old could have made better. Had dinner here a few days ago and it was very enjoyable. The steaks were cooked perfectly and very tasty, the salad and baked potato were fresh and pretty large, and the wine was very reasonably priced. The only thing that really missed the mark was the watery, frozen vegetables that came with the meal, which is why I can't give them 5 stars. When you're visiting Bryce Canyon there are very limited spots to dine, but Clarke's stands out as one of the better ones. Good food, very reasonable prices, great service, relaxed atmosphere. Here at the end of season so this is the only place open. Hotel recommended I get there by 6-6.30 as they've been known to close by 7.35pm (despite advertising to 10pm) and the only alternative would be a frozen microwave meal from the store. I looked at reviews on here and didn't go in with high expectations and unfortunately they were met. It's ok. It's clean enough. The food was ok but comments re frozen veg etc are all valid. The advertised "extensive beer and wine menu" turned out to be a choice of Heineken, Budweiser or Corona (all bottles) as far as the beer was concerned. read more

My husband and I had some time to kill before being able to check in to our motel room so we opted for a late lunch/early dinner at Clarke's. While certainly not a fancy place by any means, we were pleasantly surprised how good the food was. We had mozzarella sticks as our appetizer, I had a dinner salad prior to the meal, and we both had burgers for our entree -- all were very good! The food was okay. Not outstanding by any stretch of the imagination. The fries and "garlic toast" seemed to be from the grocery store next door and had simply been heated. The Caesar salad had hardly any dressing, and the grape tomatoes that were added to it were warm. The service, however, was horrible. We had to wait for several minutes to even be seated, and our server very obviously had somewhere else he wanted to be. He was slightly rude to begin with and only checked on us twice. He also slammed stuff down on the table. We also heard all the latest gossip. If the employees are going to stand at the wait station and talk about other people, then they need to keep their voices down.
