I requested help from this business multiple times, sent numerous emails and videos to the rep, Shelley Harper, and never received a response from management nor was I given their direct email or contact information, or even a name of anyone in management. The absolute worst customer service ever. placed an order over $ 4k for Saltillo tiles. Lots of broken tiles noted on delivery which was noted on delivery slip. Once unpacked by the contractor even more broken and chipped tiles. With all the damaged tiles was 60 short to complete the job, sent photos to Rustico to be compensated and send the the replacements, they had the nerve to send me an estimate for over a $1000 for 100 tiles (apparently they can't send less than 100). No returned phone calls, or response to emails. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE, once they have your order/money they're not interested. To start, I considered a 2 star so more people would read this, but they deserve a minus 10 star. I was up against a deadline, and ordered Saltillo tile without samples. I had no time. They sent tiles $8000 total charge that were at most 50% usable, most warped or broken. The tile installer said most were JUNK and not usable, and appeared to be cheap imports with a poorly painted surface. The pictures I sent to Rustico clearly documented these tiles were not what was depicted on the Website, but they refused even an exchange. TOTALLY A SCAM! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE! There are many good tile sites locally plus imports, so do not use RUSTICO if you want a good product. I am trying to get my Visa fraud service to get involved. read more

If you're looking to purchase beautiful handmade Saltillo tiles from a company that has knowledgeable staff, I highly recommend Rustico Tile and Stone. They have a great website with lots of choices. Every time I called Rustico, staff picked up the call right away and were always very helpful in answering all my questions. We received samples of various tiles and picked the pre-sealed 12x12 Octagon with the 4x4 insert. Rustico shipped about 700 tiles to us in California along with the recommended thin set and topcoat sealer. The tiles were very well packaged and we received them with no issues. We purchased $2,700 in Traditional Saltillo tiles this fall from Rustico Tile and Stone for our new home. Upon delivery, we were disappointed to find that two-thirds of the tiles had black smudges and marks beneath the sealant, making them look permanently dirty and unusable. These issues were not disclosed in the product descriptions or marketing materials, which only mentioned terracotta colors. Our signed contract stated: *"Traditional Saltillo tile has many color variations ranging from dark orange, red, yellow, and light pink."* We agreed to this, but the tiles we received contained black and gray discolorations that were not mentioned. Out of 570 tiles, only 225-230 were usable, forcing us to change plans, incur extra costs, and delay our project. When we contacted Rustico, they dismissed our concerns, stating "black swirls are common," despite this not being disclosed. They refused to offer a refund or resolution. We are extremely disappointed with the product quality and customer service. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Rustico Tile and Stone. No accountability for its mistakes. I ordered a pallet of tiles to be delivered to my house in California. 8 weeks later they delivered the wrong tile. I asked for a tile that was 16x20. Instead, I received a 9x12 tile. When I called they the rep said she didn't realize it came in that size, said she was confused and thought that was the square footage, and then stated it was a special order. (All the other tile I ordered was identified by size and they seemed to have no problem on those - so clearly the tile dimensions were stated clearly enough). Eventually they offered to credit back the tile, but stated these special order tiles were about 40% more expensive (around another $3000), and tried to upsell me. I indicated that was unacceptable - they sold me a tile at an agreed price and needed to honor that. After further review they finally came back and offered me 10% off and blamed me for not being clear that 16x20 was a tile dimension, not my square footage. In other words, they wanted to blame me because their new employee made a simple mistake (which she admitted), they refused to correct it to ensure I got what I ordered, or even make a meaningful discount that would at least reflect some real responsibility. I have a project that is time sensitive and a pallet of tile in my driveway. So, they basically had me over a barrel, as they don't take credit cards (Beware!) so what am I going to do - go to court and have the tile taken to the dump? Bottom line, they made a simple forgivable mistake, but that leads to lousy customer service, no accountability and gaslighting of customer. And I have to install a tile a don't really want. First world problem I admit, but it is more about the lack of ownership than the tile. Bummer too as I was going to eventually do the whole front yard. I hope the tile isn't broken and don't have to reorder from them.... read more

Customer service was EXCELLENT at the point of sale. I worked with Noah, and he was helpful, knowledgeable, patient, and efficient. However, once they've got your money, it's downhill from there. My tile arrived on a badly designed pallet that itself broke into pieces in transit. I lost around 25% of my tiles due to damage... not tiny cracks or imperfections, but literal crumbs of tile all over my driveway upon delivery. My delivery driver did not hand me paperwork to sign, and Rustico customer service used my lack of a signature to refuse any sort of customer support. They will neither replace the 25% broken tile, nor refund me for them, despite my sending multiple photos as proof, as asked. Perhaps worst of all, they have simply refused to communicate. They ignored Noah's first outreach on my behalf. After a week he reached out again to them, and they wrote me the most absurdly unhelpful reply that literally said my installer should "be creative" in using the broken pieces. I replied, and they have not written back. Be cautious buying from this company. Order arrived with an inordinate amount of broken tile pieces. Company responded by stating that this was normal and that the recommended 15% overage quantity that i placed is intended to cover the damage that takes place during transit. They will refuse to compensate for any damaged goods that they ship. Questionable whether damage occurred during shipment or they packaged broken pieces due to the high % of damage found --- which one would not expect when goods are palletized. Due to insufficient quantity of tiles (as a result of the low yield on my first shipment), the company forces you to order another 200 square feet of tile as this is the minimum quantity that they are willing to ship. The first great thing about Rustico Tile and Stone is that they have a big selection of colors and sizes for cement tiles--which are very hard to find; there are only a handful of companies selling them. The second great thing that happened while I was shopping for tiles was the helpfulness and knowledge of the staff about how to install them and how they were going to ship them to me--every step of the way was covered clearly. It was like they virtually held my hand, which I am still grateful about. Finally, when the tiles arrived, they were exactly what I wanted. They are gorgeous! Yes, there was some tile breakage, but it was covered by the recommended 15% overage. Expecting no breakage on a trip halfway across the country is an unreasonable, so I was covered by advanced planning and encountered no problem. I ordered the mission red Saltillo tile and sealed it with the high gloss TerraNano topcoat sealer. The floor is beautiful beyond my expectations. RusticoTile was very helpful all along the way. They also offer very informative, brief videos to support you in deciding what tile to get and in installation techniques. I am planning to order more of this tile for another room next year. I highly recommend RusticoTile. Note: if you use the TerraNano sealer, follow the instructions in RusticoTile's video, not the instructions on the can, which say to apply before grouting. Apply the sealer after grout has been applied and fully dried. read more

I located Rustico while searching for Saltillo tiles for a residential installation. I worked with Melanie over the course of several weeks until I was ready to order. It was at that point that I was informed that Rustico does not accept credit cards. I am not in the habit of sending money (in this case, $3199) to a business for merchandise. Credit card purchases provide the buyer with protection against fraud and other problems with purchases. Reviewing other people's experiences here, I find several quite satisfied customers, but others whose tiles arrived either broken or not matching the color ordered and difficulty with customer service after the sale in these cases. I regret not being informed on day one of the credit card policy. Nor does this policy appear anywhere on their web site. Caveat emptor. read more

I have never experienced such poor customer service in my life. I purchased a pallet of Saltillo tiles and at least half of them were white. The colors did not match at all. I am very familiar with Saltillo tiles and use them often in my design work . I understand that there is some color variation. That's part of what makes them interesting and beautiful. This was not a color variation. They were a completely different color, an entire pile of them were broken, many of the ones that weren't broken were chipped and lumpy. The product was poor quality and frustrating but the customer service experience was worse. There was no attempt to fix my order. This is a huge problem for me. I cannot complete my project with tiles that look like this. I will never again purchase materials from Rustico Tile and Stone. read more

Stay away! I ordered and paid for a sample of red saltillo tiles and then ordered 1100 tiles based on the sample from them for delivery in California. The tiles I received were completely different than the sample. The sample's color was baked in while the actual delivered tiles were clearly painted red. The tiles have a manufacturing defect with blisters and are peeling. Customer support gave me the run around telling me it is natural for the tiles to have one or two small holes. Look at the pictures below, the holes are not small and the tiles have multiple blisters. Beware they don't offer any guarantees and you are completely at risk. Here are the tell signs that you will be stuck with a $5000 loss like I am: 1) You have to pay in cash or direct bank deposit so no chance to get your credit card company to help with issues 2) They make you sign a contract requiring all damages need to be reported at delivery - who can check 1100 tiles at delivery??? 3) if you want to bring legal action against them the contract states it has to be done in their local county - so if you don't live there you will have to travel to TX for any court appearances. 4) Contract does not provide any guarantees on product quality. In short if you want to be 100% at risk with almost no recourse this is the place for you. Otherwise go to a company that accepts credit cards, have a reasonable return policy and don't make you sign a unreasonable contract that gives you no protections. My experience with this company was WAY less than fabulous. I'm glad to see more current reviews that are positive, and I hope they have straightened out their customer service issues. I live in Austin, so this shop is 'local' to me. I called them wanting to order super saltillo. They said "lovely, let us know how much you need" sooooo after talking with my contractor, he estimated what he needed. I called them & told them. They said "order now, so we will have it in stock when it's time for it to be installed" ~ so that's what I did. I ordered early, so they would have it. Fast forward to "time to go pick up the tile" ~ Contractor calls, then drives up to this not-easy-to-find place... they didn't have the tile I ordered. They offered regular saltillo in it's place. I had no choice, I had to accept what they had if I wanted to keep my re-mo on track. I also requested their "environmentally friendly" sealer to come with the tile. It was not included. Even though I asked for it. This is just the highlights. In short, everything that could have gone wrong with this deal, went wrong. read more

I have been eyeing cement tiles for over a month now. We had a terrible flood in our kitchen and need to replace our hardwood. After looking at all different stones and wood we have decided to go with cement tiles. I have searched high and low for a similar tile that Leo's Oyster Bar has and finally found it here at Rustico. I looked at 30 different cement tile shops and have found that Rustico probably has the best pricing also. The customer service has been wonderful, I've been conversing with Melanie through email. She shipped me three samples and all three are great quality. I liked how she made sure to follow up with me to let me know my tiles would be arriving that afternoon, we are in Southern California and they're in Texas. The tiles came well packed. I went to look at cement tiles in Woodland Hills at a store called Factor Surfaces same quality cement cement tiles were starting at $9.50 a piece vs Melanie's $5.50 and even a $3.75 sale priced tile. On their website you can see which tiles are on a flash sale at the moment. What makes Rustico an ever better deal for me is the saving on taxes. Based off the customer service I've had with Melanie over a dozen or so emails has me whole heartedly recommending Rustico. read more

Not quite sure what is with the other reviews on here, but Yelper's with no picture and two or three reviews are typically suspect, of course these could be legit but they always make me a little weary. As you can see I've been on Yelp for a while and really utilize this site to learn more about businesses and make choices for who I use, where I eat etc. For some reason I didn't check out Yelp when I first started working with Rustico but for once I'm glad I'm didn't. It might have scared me off a little, and my experience with them with far from scary. We decided to replace carpet with Saltillo tile and I really wanted to find someone local to work with. On a simple google search I found Rustico. My family has had Saltillo tile in our houses for years and we used to actually go down to Mexico to get it. I had high expectations for whatever company I worked with and really wanted to make sure I got a quality product. Since I'm somewhat local I decide to go out to see the Rustico showroom and look at options. I was a little disappointed when my contact wasn't there when I showed up (it was close to lunch) but the girl that helped me really knew the product, showed me a lot of different options, and even let me take a few samples to help me make a decision. I did some price comparisons with a few places in Houston and other locations but they had a great price for what I wanted. I placed the order, no issues. I already had contractors working on my house so Rustico didn't install it but they sent me a follow up email with additional products they sell as well as a check list of sorts to make sure that the installation of their product goes well, which I appreciated and went over it with my contractors. The tile was delivered relatively close to the date I wanted and within a week of ordering it, they were quick, gave me some extra, and my contractors said there were maybe 2 pieces broken in the whole 1,000 sq. ft. I ordered. They followed up with me again to make sure everything was okay and my tile looks beautiful. I love my tile, my experience was good and would definitely use Rustico again. read more

Great prices and beautiful, quality product. However, I was surprised on how little/no care was take when packaging and shipping the 12x12 Saltillo tiles from TX to CA. 350 sq feet of tiles approx 2500 lbs. arrived in a flimsy wooden crate with no padding between tiles or bumpers. I had over 15% breakage of tiles and per the agreement, the company will only be responsible for breakage of over 15% so I submitted my claim and provided pictures of all the broken tiles that mostly were towards the bottom of the crate, but my claim was denied with no explanation. I asked for an explanation for the denial and never heard back. When I told the company I was close to running short of tiles for my project, they said that they had already included 5 extra tiles in my original shipment and that I must have under-ordered. I didn't even ask for all approx 50 broken tiles be replaced and said I would settle for at least 20-25. They offered to ship the extra tiles, but I'd have to pay for them plus the shipping fee. If you are local, I'd recommend this company, but you should arrange packaging/pick up yourself. read more
