So, I've been in Texas a couple of months & have not found a Mexican restaurant I like until I ate here for Sunday brunch. OMGOSH, delicious. My favorites are the homemade flour tortillas, chicken fajitas, pasta with green sauce and shrimp, rice and beans. For me, the only missing items were a spicier salsa option for those of us who can handle the heat and Chilaquilas as this is one of my favorite breakfast/brunch food items. There is a little bit of something for everyone to enjoy. Who knew I would have to visit from San Antonio to find Mexican food this yummy in TX. This place is a must EVERY SINGLE time I visit family in Denison. Great job guys! read more

We went to Rustico's on a recommendation from a nearby State Parks employee. We had an amazing dining experience. It was really comfortable seating in a very relaxed atmosphere. Felipe, the owner, and staff were very attentive to our needs. My wife had adobo shrimp over crab enchiladas, which came with plantains and a mango salsa which was amazingly delicious! I had a seafood enchilada with a delicious lobster sauce, and their corn on the side was special, with sour cream and flavoring that was so good. I finally ate here for the first time last night!! I'm sad that I did not try it sooner!! It was delicious!!! We started with salsa, white Queso and stuffed jalapeños. All were amazing. For dinner one of our party had a chicken chimichanga, two of us had grilled chicken fajitas and one had Carne Asada. Plates were cleaned except for the fajitas because the servings were so big we had to take a to-go box home. Sopapillas were good too! Visiting from Frisco for the lake. Wanted decent Tex Mex and I wasn't disappointed. Outside looks a little beat up but the inside was well taken care of and clean. Ate here a few weeks ago wile visiting a friend in Sherman. What a pleasant surprise. We love Mexican food and this was a true experience. The food and service were excellent. The Manager even stopped by to check on us. My Husband had the Pork Quesadillas and loved them. Our friend had the Chile Relleno and she loved it too. I went to Rustico for the very first time last night for a birthday dinner. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! The waitress was horrible and we waited for over 45 to get our food. It wasn't even hot and just barely warm. We had someone arrive late and ordered 20 minutes after we had & she got her food the same time we did. I asked to speak to the manager & was told that there wasn't a manager AND the owner was out of town. Then when the check comes, she doesn't bother asking if people were paying together or not and brought everyone separate tickets with the wrong items on them no less. There were 9 of us & we understand that there was a gratuity put on but she honestly didn't deserve it. She didn't check on us & only came to the table when we flagged her down yet constantly checked on her other tables around us. Service was poor & food was mediocre at best. read more

The restaurant looked nice, but the food was not up to par. The tamale tasted like it had been frozen and microwaved. This place has no Chili/Chili Con Carne. The queso over the beef enchilada was suppose to be a queso, but was melted cheese. Hubby felt sick after we left there. He got the chicken sour cream enchiladas. Go if you are curious. What a gem in Denison! Authentic Mexican food with high quality ingredients and a creative and interesting menu. Many meat, chicken, and seafood dishes; but vegetarian and gluten free friendly, too! The service is friendly and swift. The owner checks on you and we got to talking. He showed us the historical pieces around the restaurant. The ambiance of the restaurant is lovely, very artistic and stylish. All in all, a beautiful restaurant that has been built with creativity and a great deal of care. Wonderful restaurant, available for party rentals. We rented out the place for my uncle's wake. They were so accommodating and made us feel so welcome. Making sure we always had a drink in hand. This place really exceeded my expectations. Despite the fact it's been in the area for about a year, I hadn't heard of it until a friend recommended it. Definitely going to become a regular place. Get the frozen margarita! It is VERY STRONG and absolutely worth the $8 price for a large. The table side guacamole was excellent, and the Chile Relleno was on par with others I've been impressed with at other restaurants. My mother got the enchiladas suiza and it was very good, the Mexican corn she got as a side was very well seasoned and super creamy. Definitely the best restaurant in town. The owner was very welcoming and attentive. I was impressed by the quality of the ingredients. If you like pineapple, try the carnitas fajitas! My boyfriend asked for a custom burrito and they were happy to accommodate him (all he really does is add French fries to his burrito but in the past other restaurants have refused to do that). Been eating at this place for almost 3 years now. Simply the Food, Beverage and Service is always outstanding! So is the great simple live entertainment, always a nice add! While in Sherman we had lunch at Rustico. The restaurant is beautiful and the service was impeccable. At least two different managers stopped by to see if everything was ok. We ordered off the lunch menu which is priced extremely well given the portions which are large. The food was delicious. I had the poblano chicken which was served with rice and corn. The negatives for me are the tortillas and margaritas. If you're going to serve amazing food, that should include amazing tortillas and not pre-made tortillas that smell and taste of the preservatives...homemade is the only way to go in my opinion. The margaritas were super sweet and not great BUT...despite those two negatives I recommend this restaurant and if I were ever in the area, I would go back. read more

WOW, this is my new favorite brunch spot! Last Sunday was our first visit, we went pretty late like toward the end of the brunch 1:30ish. I was expecting it to be over picked and gross it was the opposite, it was completely loaded any & everything you can think of...fine Mexican cuisine, Tex-Mex, huge dessert buffet, salsa and relish bar, prime rib, omelette station, chocolate fountain, fresh fruit it was amazing! We have a VRBO (vacation rental by owner) on Lake Texoma and most weekend renters check out at 11:00 am. Rustico opens Sunday at 11:00am and is a buffet which means no waiting. We always recommend Rustico so they leave get great food without waiting, everyone gets what they want and they can be on their drive home full and happy. The first two times we visited, it was great. The first time was for brunch, and our server was wonderful. He brought fruit for our son (almost 2 years old) and was on top of everything. The food was also delicious, which is why we returned with even more family. My husband and I discovered that the brunch seafood enchiladas are different than the regular ones, and we decided we like the brunch ones better. We had a little issue with fruit. They brought a seasoned fruit plate (like you would order for an adult), but quickly replaced it with an unseasoned plate of pineapple and jicama. Even though my husband and I were disappointed in the enchiladas, the food was still quite good. Based on these two visits, we came back with other family for a third time. This last visit was a disaster. I don't know if they were understaffed, training new staff, or what, but service was severely lacking. We immediately put in an order for fruit for our son, and our server said she'd bring it right away, even before the drinks. That didn't happen. We received our drinks, then the fruit plate came out with the orders of queso. It was also not just an order of fruit, it was the fruit plate with cottage cheese (no one ate that), and fruit salsa (which I ate), so we had to ask for additional fruit. It took about 20 minutes from when we were seated until we placed our order, and we had to tell our server we were ready (she just kept running by our table). My husband and I ordered the seafood enchiladas, and we were the only ones happy with our meal. They forgot my mother-in-law's tortillas, and her steak was very fatty. The steaks my father-in-law and sister-in-law had were tough. I ordered dessert first (I like to do that, and I'm pregnant, so no one questions it), but my dessert came out right after we received our meal. That was disappointing because by that point our son was getting anxious and tired, so I couldn't really enjoy my dessert as I had hoped. Twice my husband had to leave the table with our son to try to keep him occupied while we waited (to order, to get our food). I felt like I had to eat quickly, so I could get our son home for his nap. My father-in-law has already stated that's the last time he'll go to Rustico. We haven't decided how we feel yet, but this was a huge let down. read more
