Food is good and doesn't leave you feeling gross, pastries are A+, but the breakfast sandwiches are by far the best items on the menu

I cannot say enough good things about this place. I work and live super nearby so I'm pretty much a regular. This is the place to go when you want fresh, delicious, gourmet food. The sandwich combinations are original. I love that they slice the meat right in front of you and if you order a sandwich with avocado they always slice open a brand new one- no brown avocado slices here! I have had the Brie sandwich, the chewheato, the salami and Gruyere, the Cobb, and the chicken and Gouda. My personal favorite is the chewheato- the spicy spread is superb! They have amazing breakfast options too. The oatmeal so creamy and topped with a dollop of Greek yogurt- so good! The pastries honestly deserve their own post. I have tried every pastry, except the one with strawberries due to an allergy. They are DIVINE please do not go another day without trying the dark chocolate Nutella or the white chocolate caramel pastry! A box of fresh baked goods is my go to gift when going to a party or gathering now. The metropolis coffee is strong and pairs perfectly with the sweet treats. The service is always excellent as well. The owners take pride in what they do and it shows in the quality of the food and the ambiance of the restaurant. They are also so kind and thoughtful- they have thrown in a few free pastries several times that I've stopped in before closing. Overall a wonderful establishment that I hope never leaves Lemont!!! read more

Finally made it into this hidden gem and so glad that I did! The breakfast sandwiches are full of flavor on FRESH homemade bread! The combination of flavors is wonderful with caramelized onions and all fresh ingredients! The blueberry tea is like nothin I've ever tasted! Can't wait to go back and try more of the menu! read more

Don't know why this place has good reviews ? The sandwiches are awful , room temperature bread not toasted , with a tiny amount of avocado and a sliver of cold bacon covered with one small over cooked egg. $ 4.75 ... Same with the latte : large cup half full .. Pass .. Your better off at DD read more

Was driving around trying to figure out what I wanted for lunch. Stumbled across this restaurant and figured I'd try it based on the Yelp reviewers recommendations. I walked in around 1:30pm on a Thursday and the place was empty. I was immediately greeted and I placed an order shortly after looking at the menu. I ordered a salmon sandwich, cabbage & potato soup, blueberry pastry and coffee...all were delicious. My bill came to $18...which was kinda expensive for lunch, but well worth it!! Ended up getting more pastries to go...couldn't help myself!! I'll be back soon. read more

Great pastries in the morning and had a great sandwich at lunch. Decor was very rustic (hence the name, LOL) with vases of fresh flowers. I had the chicken and Gouda sandwich which was great. I hope this place lasts in this location, being that I don't think Lemont is as 'trendy' as it should be - a better location would have been Naperville or LaGrange. read more

I had to come back to try out the breakfast menu.. Not only do they prepare the sandwich in front of you but the egg that goes on it too! I opted for the smoked salmon with veggie cream cheese and tomatoes which was amazing. The bread was super fresh and chewy; I didn't even miss the bagel. I was going to ask for a little red onion but their food is so fresh it was not even prepped for breakfast, gotta love it. Can I eat here everyday??? read more

My sister and I purchased one type of sandwich each to split, and also got a pastry (Nutella croissant) to share. Also bought a ham and cheese croissant to take home. The sandwiches were superb! The food is delicious. The bread is outstanding. The choices are great, the food is healthy and the staff is very pleasant. Obviously take great pride in what they do! I come to the restaurant frequently and its a go to for lunch with folks looking for something new, fresh and good! I love the Metropolis coffee, delish! I can't say enough good things about it. It's now a routine for Friday lunch with bread and their amazing sweet rolls to bring home for the weekend. There are not enough stars for this place! read more

I have to say, at first, I was put off by the name thinking it was a chain franchise. After speaking with the owner, this is the only location. The decor is beautiful and mostly handmade and the food is delicious. The sandwiches are artisan gourmet, that have the European flavor mixtures otherwise not seen here in the US. I had the Cobb sandwich and was delighted. I had the blueberry hibiscus iced tea and it was superb! The soup of the day was Cream of Mushroom, and it was delicious. My fiancée had a Chewheato sandwich, and the Cabbage potato and white bean soup. He was very pleased. We purchased 2 Ham and cheese croissants to go, and they gave us the last one free since they said it would be lonely. We also bought a baguette for home as well. If you are looking for an alternative to the large chain "cafe" give this spot a chance and you will not be disappointed. read more

Something different. Soup and sandwich type place kind of like a Panera but with a personal touch. The bread was good and nutty and the soup tastey. Good for a lunch with a twist. Plain, neat interior with plentiful parking. Prices were mid range. A good offering for Lemont. read more

The freshly prepared breakfast sandwiches are a good change of pace from the prepackaged toaster oven treats from Starbucks. The coffee is okay, but I've yet to try a latte or cappuccino. The staff is friendly and the decor is awesome. I've heard the pastries are also delicious. They have a lunch menu available that looks awesome, but again, I've yet to try it out. read more

Came here for lunch and my husband and I each had a sandwich - mine had a chipotle sauce and his had pears! The service was efficient but friendly. The bread and ingredients were not only tasty and fresh, they were sliced and presented very nicely. The ingredients were selected with purpose and placed in correct proportions to make a delicious combination of flavors. The sandwiches that I've had so far have been very good. The bread is always fresh out of the oven and all ingredient seem fresh. The space is very comfortable, clean and pleasing with plenty of windows that provide great natural light. The price is definitely within range of the value you get from the food and the overall dining experience. Definitely recommend stopping in for a try. read more

Amazing fresh local, artesian and craft style menu-exactly what our family craves, all things considered for this quality/style of food the prices are phenomenal! If you buy this type of food for your you know what it costs as well as how short the shelf life is for this food compared to the chemically processed/artificially flavored versions you find at the fast food chains. This place is a perfect model of transparency, the entire kitchen is surrounded by glass so you can watch the whole beautiful process. Did I mention they have GF?? For someone who has celiac's disease, to be able to go out and eat alongside my family at a craft bakery was AMAzING!! read more

Just had a bad experience at this restaurant and that stinks cause it's definitely one of the better food options in town. I ordered some pastries and then placed an order for (4) breakfast sandwiches. The guy behind the counter started to prep the order and that is when I also added (2) additional lunch sandwiches. This is where things get weird. The sandwich maker man told me that the order was too large and I needed to order it in advance. I was with my family so I simply purchased my pastries and (4) sandwiches instead of turning into a bigger issue. If this place doesn't want my business, I'll just go somewhere else. I definitely made sure to put the catering menu I grabbed back on the pile cause I can't imagine trying to get food for a large party when they can't accommodate a simple order. read more

Sure it costs more but look at other local limited choices, and ask them to open their freezers,...yes plural!.....The only thing that resembles a freezer here is to make ice!!...Rustic should teach a class on how to cook to order to other Lemont eateries. One of my favorite places in Lemont. Everything is FRESH! and there are gluten free options. I had a specialty sandwich with ham, and a slightly spicy/sweet chipotle sauce that was excellent. The cauliflower soup was too milky/creamy for my taste but i have had other soups there that we good. I really like the fresh herbal iced tea - unsweetened! open, clean, relaxed atmosphere.
