First time in this cute quilt shop! It's easy to find, on Auburn Blvd. Lots of parking in the private lot of a small shopping center. The shop is pretty big, and it's bright and cheerful. It's decorated nicely and feels welcoming. The employee was kind and friendly. This is definitely a quilter's shop, not a fabric shop. I was looking for fabric for a non quilt project and didn't really find exactly what I wanted. If you're a quilter I think you'll love it. They have Cosmos embroidery floss which is a nice touch. read more

I am a new sewist and have found enormous help from Marie and her staff. I've asked many basic sewing questions that have always been answered professionally and with respect always being told, "there are no dumb questions" and, Marie always helps me choose the right fabric for the products I intend to complete. The shop, as well as the classroom, is clean, well organized and stocked with anything I've needed and the cost of products has been comparable or less than Amazon or other fabric stores. Whenever I visit Runs With Scissors or attend one of their classes, I feel welcomed and comfortable. The atmosphere has always been upbeat, healthy, and welcoming. Walking into the quilt shop I was excited to see all the fabric and patterns. However, upon entering, I felt very unwelcome by the lady (70s or 80s) who was cutting at the mat. I asked if they had sheer fabric only to be rudely turned away as she told me, "you won't find what you're looking for here." After that, I looked around the store myself. Two older ladies walked in after a couple minutes and the worker at the mat greeted them with a lighthearted tone. At that point I didn't want to give them my services with this repelling and unequal hospitality so I left. read more

I've been shopping at RWS for 4-5 years now and love the store. They have a great selection of blenders, popular brands, Minky and even some wool and flannels. They carry quilt patterns and bag patterns and supplies. The owner, Marie, is always really nice and helpful and has a great eye for color. She has a huge classroom next door where one can take a quilt or bag class and has several cutting tables, ironing boards, comfortable chairs, a sink, microwave, fridge and of course a bathroom. I try to go to one or two Sit-N-Sews a month where I've made a few friends with the same interests. read more

I AM NOT confusing Runs with Scissors with any other shop. And I am speaking about Marie, the owner. Yes, the owner has "taught" the class from hell that I referred to. Perhaps "taught" is not the right word, but she was clearly in charge and watching over the class. It was a sit & sew where everyone worked on their own projects, so no real teaching actually occurred. And I think she was just covering for the assigned teacher. Perhaps you disagree because you enjoy the gossip. I don't know. I don't like it. The atmosphere and conversation led by the owner was extremely toxic and upsetting. My friend still talks about that awful class to this day, nearly 9 months later. read more

Runs with scissors is a great place for fabric. They have all the latest Amy Butler prints and a few good Moda prints as well. While they are a little more expensive than some quilt shops they make up for it in selection and competence. The staff is always really friendly and all seem like pretty experienced sewers. I enjoy this little shop, the bright aesthetics, friendly people. My favorite fabric is decorative to stretch over canvas for wall art. My new batik is vibrant, with no apparent repeat and a good purchase at $30 for my 4x5 foot canvas. The previous selection looked like a watercolor of a Caribbean sunset. This is a totally sweet store. A nice, but not large, selection of fabrics and tools. FRIENDLY!!! Oh my gosh! Fun and friendly. That sells me every time. The red headed owner is the perfect hostess and always makes me feel right at home. She always has great suggestions and seems really knowledgeable. I have shopped here several times. I find the shop pleasant and the staff helpful. They are willing to answer my questions and make good suggestions. I find the prices to be about average for a quilting shop. The shop is small so not a ton of fabric however more than enough to complete some nice projects I generally find all the notions and and fabric I need in one trip.
