I wasn't sure a quilting shop would have basic sewing supplies for a baby crafter like myself, but Cali Quilt Co. delivered. They have a little of everything, but also a massive selection of fabrics and quilting supplies. This also seems to be the place to go should you be interested in a new craft project and would like to interact with friendly crafty folks who are as knowledgeable as they are personable. The shelves are peppered with adorable stuffed animal samples, which maybe one day I would be interested in trying to make. Stuffies are a weakness of mine. As for me, I did know how to do basic sewing at one time. Mama tried. But it has literally been decades and my supplies have been depleted. I was on the hunt for thread, sewing needles, a pin cushion, possibly a needle threader, and push pins. Cali Quilt Co. had them all, and then some. When I eyed these adorable unicorn pins, Emily told me she had even better ones and whisked off to find them for me. She returned with KITTY pins!!! See picture below. She's brilliant, that Emily. She also had tips on what color and type of thread to use to sew patches on a denim battle vest. Because I sure as heck had no clue. And sometimes a real life expert you can talk to in person is better than randos on youtube. The folks who work here were all very nice and helpful. My visit was pleasant, and checking out took no time at all once I had everything I needed and had managed to resist anything I did not need. (The snacks and wine table was tempting and so were the sparkly purple scissors.) The store is clean and bright, and stuffed wall to wall with fabrics, but very neatly. It was no trouble to find what I came for, and I will return for sure. Big thanks for the nice welcome and helpful advice. I know I can trust Cali Quilt Co. for future endeavors and don't need to feel intimidated when I shop here. This is a place for no0bs and seasoned quilters alike, and I dig that. read more

Lets just say I am not a quilter. I barely can sew, I always give it a good ole college try with my trusty sewing machine. But I love to sew... well attempt to sew. So when I saw the sign of this shop while I was next door at the Kitchen Expo showroom, I knew I had to pop on in. Super glad I did. The vibe is awesome. I have been to lots of quilt shops each having their own special areas of focus, but I have never been to a shop like Cali Quilt Co. They literally have everything! Bag making supplies, snuggle fabrics for backings, traditional fabrics, modern fabrics from all the latest designers, accuquilt dies, a huge selection of patterns, thread and all the odds and ends and do dads you could ever want. They even sell machines. Add to that a friendly staff and an easily accessible parking lot with ample parking and you have the perfect shop. read more

I learned the hard way today that purchasing less than 1 yard of fabric costs the consumer more than the per yard price on the bolt of fabric. Today I purchased 1/3 yard of fabric. Instead of the $12.99 per yard price x 1/3, I paid $5.25 for 1/3 yard. Doing the math, that is .92 more. When I asked, the cashier provided no explanation. Later I called the store to inquire about the excess charge or error. It was neither of those to my surprise. This business charges to "cut" the piece of fabric for cuts smaller than a yard. When I replied that the fabric has to be cut anyway whether it is a 1 yard or 1/3 of a yard, the reply was "extra labor cost"! What?! What extra labor cost?! Never will I purchase fabric or anything else there again. Totally unbelievable! read more

First time visit....and I'll be back! This place is HUGE! Super friendly people with smiles and assistance. It's off Folsom Blvd between Hazel and Sunrise - in an industrial building. This store is amazing! I've been in 3-4 times now (and never remember to take photos) but it's much larger inside than it looks on the outside. If you love modern prints this is the place for you. They have so many fun fabrics and an enormous selection of children's prints including general things like fairytale castles to superhero's, movies (like toy story) and books such as the hungry caterpillar. Each area is themed so it's easy if your looking for a particular kind of fabric like polka dots or dinosaurs and they typically have a ton of fat quarters already cut. Oh my minky! They carry Shannon minky which is definitely the best and it's by far the largest in person selection I've ever seen. They also have classes and lots of kits. Top Notch! I stopped by this afternoon looking for some special fabric to back a pair of needlepoint stockings. They had loads of fabrics, which overwhelmed me a bit. One employee helped me find the perfect fabrics and had some great suggestions on how to emphasize a special element on the back of each stocking. Everything in the store is easy to view and they have good lighting. I can't wait for my quilting mother in law to come out so we can go there again! I might even take a class from them. read more

Fabric selection is great. But don't bother taking a "class" from this operation. Twice now I have had to walk out after being mislead about the topic. The classes are a front for marketing Elna Sewing machines. They spend a disproportionate amount time having you perform tasks on the fancy new machines (that they sell) that have nothing to do with the topic. Then, you move on to some dumb straight sewing for a long time which again, has nothing to do with the topic. Instructors should ensure that machines are set up with the proper equipment (throat plate, bobbin, and thread loaded) right from the start. They waste so much time on this "touch and play with our fabulous machines for sale" portion that there is very little time to actually learn anything else. Having a potential customer touch and use a product for sale is a well-known marketing tool. Fool me once, OK, fool me twice? I'm gone. read more

Joyful to discover there is a Quilting fabric store just about a 15 minute drive from my work place in Folsom that sold Kaffe Fassett Fabric. During the past few months I have now visited the Cali Quilt Co 3 times and also have placed 2 on line orders through ETSY. Fast speedy delivery which is truly appreciated and the in store selection of overall fabric and supplies is very worthy of your time! There is always a friendly and welcome energy when I walk through the doors and all of the beautiful fabric and supplies are a sight to behold! There are gorgeous quilted blankets to view and admire hanging on the walls and a generous beautiful selection of fabric and supplies to browse through for purchasing. Ample parking lot that is spacious as well! On their Facebook page Tayva also creates live video instructions for various funtastic projects! I discovered the fabric balloon ball tutorial a few weeks ago and during my last visit to the store I was able to purchase the template for the fabric balloon ball which are surely going to make funtastic welcome gifts during the holidays and year round too! read more

Came to this online etsy shop turned store front to look for a few specific pieces and left with a fat quarter bundle and ideas for many more projects to come back and shop for. The walls are stocked with full collections of fabric lines, which is a fantastic thing to be able to purchase in person. Fat quarters are stored nearby and many samples to spark inspiration. Awesome experience!! Due to COVID-19, my stash for face coverings is depleted. Found Cali Quilt by searching for fabric on a Saturday. Absolutely great customer service on the phone and at the door. Suggestions for fabrics, selected the bolts and the yardage was cut in less than 20 minutes. I'll have this washed and dried before the last person in line at the local Big Box store gets through to purchase. Besides the need and urgent sewing, I'll be back to support a great shop.
