So after lunch, I drive on over to check the Shop out. It is a Design Shop without the snobbery or gaudiness. The Shop is a design and retail shop selling furniture, home decor, lighting fixtures, kitchenware, tableware, pottery, and glass ware. Beautiful items giving off California cool vibes of rustic coastal, muted minimalistic Scandinavian, and contemporary bohemian. But get this, the prices were not crazy high. The furniture and merchandise are gorgeously staged. The pieces are beautiful curated pieces. Framed commercial art print work prints and paintings ranged from $20-$120. They had an elm wood desk with interior veneer drawers for $525. That piece caught my eye, but I don't need a desk. It was a beautiful piece though and a great price for the quality. But an odd thing is that in the same area they sell functional furniture, they have furniture that are deemed decorative. For instance, they had a pair of wooden chairs for purchase. I sat down to see how it would feel. They were wobbly. When I got up, I noticed a small handwritten sign on the chair stating they were decorative and not to be used. Hmm. Just be aware of decorative vs functional pieces. The majority of staff are outgoing, welcoming, and super helpful. They also offer interior design services. It's really nice to just wander around and observe the beautiful plants and specialty trees. They currently have a sale featuring 50% off roses, which are in full bloom at the moment. In addition patio furniture is also 50% off. The mature trees range from hundreds to thousands of dollars depending upon cultivar, rarity, or variegation of foliage. This is a great place for large landscape specimens. You won't find six packs of annuals, they really specialize in trees, shrubs and perennials. The service was friendly, although I didn't buy anything this time, I was warmly greeted, and offered help to find anything. I'll be back once we finish our hardscaping and are ready for feature plants and large trees.

I immediately realized I wanted to hire Leyla to redo our downstairs dining, living and kitchen area. She helped me realize a grand dining room fit our family lifestyle better then a dining and formal front room. She designed a new island for our kitchen which included a waterfall and lower seating area in our kitchen. Leyla picked out a beautiful maple wood counter for the island and kitchen table. She tested out maple stains herself and showed me the final choice before the counter went into production. We moved light fixtures, added lights and removed two can lights making the overall space more grand and more balanced. The design and construction ideas turned out beautifully. I'm so glad I followed all of her design ideas because seeing the end result now is beyond my dreams and expectations. Leyla assigned her Senior Design Assistant Ashlee to my project. Ashlee was chosen based on my style alignment which was modern boho. Ashlee and I clicked from our first meeting. She and I have so much in common and she was an absolute pleasure to work with. These ladies kept in contact with me even after hours and on weekends to make sure things went smoothly from the very start. I had a deadline of finishing the whole project before the birth of our son which they were able to accomplish even with how highly in demand their business is. The end result, spectacular! They coordinated my style, with cohesiveness of beautiful color palates, enriched by many decorating layers and all done with kid friendly pieces. I've been coming to antique trove for years with my mom and other friends, and I'm very happy every…read moretime I visit. It usually takes us about 3 hours to walk through the entire store. The staff has always been friendly and ready to help us with any questions we have, and they even have shopping carts at the front of the store! For those who have never been to an antique store before, it's set up into dozens of little square 3-walled rooms. Each one of those sections is usually ran by a vendor who is setting up their own stuff on consignment, and in charge of their own pricing. Because of that, prices are very volatile here. There was a vendor who was selling antiques for only a few dollars because he had so much and just wanted it all gone, while others are selling things for way more than they're worth (I'm looking at you vinyl vendors). I used to appraise records and one common mistake people make is they look up the record and assume the expensive one they see online is the exact same one they have. Only issue is that the value is determined by the pressing and they're looking at a rare one, not the one they have. There was a Star Wars record that goes for $200 online if it was original pressing. In Antique Trove is was being sold for $200, but it wasn't the original pressing and was warped. Nobody is paying for that. So prices can be dirt cheap or insanely overpriced depending on who the vendor is. What I can say about the inventory though is that all these vendors have such different products. Some are only selling vinyl, others had antique guns, furniture, masks, lamps, clothes, etc. It's easy to find something you'll enjoy. It does take a while to be rung up, because they have to manually input everything and record which vendor the items you bought are from, but the staff is friendly while doing it. Just don't expect them ring you up as fast as other retailers. My biggest gripe with antique trove is the back of it. Outside is a big backyard full of products that just feel...neglected. We've found some cool stuff that is covered in webs that are months old. How do I know they're months old? It's because we come here every few months and the same webs are out there. It's always the same exact products out there with the exception of a couple selling or a few more being added, but 99% of the inventory stays the same outside. It feels like a graveyard where those products go to die. I always feel sad walking around out there. On the bright side though, there is a vending machine right next to the door and I always grab myself a snack because I'm starving with how many hours we spend inside. The 3 giants of antique and thrift stores nearby would be Midway Antiques, Antique Trove, and Stardust Vintage Emporium. With Midway having closed a couple years ago, Antique Trove and Stardust are the two I visit the most. I highly recommend checking this place out.

I ended up finding some beanie babies that I used to have as a kid for a good price and went home with three of them. While we were browsing the staff kept offering us baskets to carry the items we found, although some of the spaces were very close quarters and I decided it was easier to carry items instead of using the basket. You'll want to be careful not to knock anything down and to take a good look in each area so you don't miss anything.
