Go to Rumi's for the vibes! Whether it's date night, out with friends, or celebrating something special, Rumi's in Avalon is something else. Very chic seating, intimate tables, and indoor/outdoor options. The food is decent. I didn't particularly like the hummus with beef (the hummus was incredibly bitter, like old olive oil was used). However the rest of the meal was tasty - particularly the kabobs, lamb chops, and rice. I love a tasty Persian rice with raisins, carrots, and saffron that balances nicely against the meat. I was so looking forward to going to this new restaurant after really liking the other Rumi's that is currently under renovation. I'm sorry to say the other restaurant experience was SO MUCH BETTER. First, this place is SO NOISY!!! You could hardly hear yourself much less have a conversation. My chicken meal here at Avalon was overcooked, hard, not moist nor flavorful. The rice was good but the small amount of sauce on the rice was disappointing. The apps were the best part of the experience. The eggplant was perfection, smoky and delicious. The shrimp appetizer and shrimp meal was very good. Flavorful and tasty. The shrimp meal came with rice that was wonderfully seasoned with orange peel and other spices. Amazing. The cream brûlée was different. It was flavored with cardamon and earl grey tea. I liked it very much even if it was brown and had a different taste. Why this place is not 5 star rating shocks me! I am in town for work and this place was highly recommended by my client. I read the reviews and made a reservation on open table. There was nothing but early times but that was fine. There is a parking garage around the corner. Such a beautiful area, lots of shopping! Walked into the restaurant and it's beautiful, greeted promptly and was seated on a high top table. My server was really nice Peninnah, she suggested some items. Dinner comes with some pita bread, some feta, olives, other kind of vegetables. I also got the mushroom hummus (so delicious, silky smooth with mushrooms on top!). We have tried coming here when in town before, but it was always busy - definitely recommend getting a reservation, esp on the weekends. Our waiter was very attentive and had great recommendations for us. The food itself was delicious. We debated for a bit on which appetizer to ge, but decided on the the lamb hummus. It was delicious. I could have eaten a whole meal of just that. I do want to try the mushroom hummus too - maybe next time. For dinner I had the Chinjeh Lubia Polo - and it was great. I really liked the garlic yogurt mixed with the beef kabob, rice, and the rice, which had a hint of cinnamon. I would definitely order that again. Been here eight or so times over the past year and a half, and Rumi's never disappoints. If anything, it only gets better. It's always a great time dining there, and the food is consistently delicious. This is a place where I know the food will have me dancing in my seat and eating till I'm stuffed. The ambiance is clean, upscale, and bustling without being chaotic. Without a reservation, expect to wait 30 minutes to an hour to get seated. The complimentary bread is warm, soft, and so yummy, especially paired with the complimentary olives, feta, walnuts, and mint. I also love eating it with the Mirza Ghasemi (eggplant, tomato, garlic), and mushroom hummus. Note that this hummus is not your typical grocery-store hummus. It's richer, thicker, earthy, and has a much better texture. As for appetizers, the spicy shrimp are very large with a dry, parmesan-based sauce. As for the entrees, you can't go wrong. The lamb kabobs are flavorful, chicken kabob is especially juicy, and Soltani kabob has great texture. All the rices have a scoop of buttery yellow basmati rice on top which is delicious. Of the rices, the raisin & lentil basmati rice is my favorite. A few months ago they added mocktails to the menu. I've tried the AJ Mojito (good) and the Paradise (even better). Also note that if you're celebrating a birthday, they bring out a complimentary baklava with a candle on top. No question this place has better food than Delbar across the highway. It's consistently excellent, with thoughtful changes to the menu, and it's a place I keep coming back to for good reason. read more

It's extremely packed like a NYC diner... but whatever they've done to the acoustics makes it feel about 10x louder than normal. You can forget normal sound-level conversations. The Avalon location is always crowded, but we were able to get a reservation for the same day we reserved. We were seated immediately after checking in. Food was delicious. Rumi's was amazing! While the service seemed a little slower than normal, I figured I just joined the post-church Sunday afternoon crown by accident. Our server was great regardless though and brought all of our refills and food out at a decent time. The food = amazing. I mean I don't him you can go wrong with anything in the menu. We started with the hot saffron wings and k loved the flavor by themselves. The sauce on the side was less impressive and just tasted like extra spicy buffalo sauce in my opinion. I wish the complimentary appetizers can with more salad/ toppings and less bread! I feel like I had double the bread for the amount of toppings. But it was still delicious. My main was the beef kebabs and wow! They're always a standout. The red seasoning goes great on the rice and this is a well rounded meal you can't go wrong with. We dined at Rumi's Sunday night. We miss the Sandy Springs location terribly and finally decided we couldn't wait any longer so drove up to the Avalon. Reservations are strongly recommended! It is quite busy there and I'm not a huge fan of long wait lists though the hostesses appeared to be managing seating people quite well despite the crowd. They have several outdoor tables with heat lamps which people appeared to be enjoying. Service- our waitress was great. Thoughtful, attentive and very positive energy. We never wanted for anything. She was very proactive and anticipated our every need. Dining room- the room is large but not too loud. Despite being very busy we were able to carryon a conversation and enjoy our meal. Food- they have wings at this location so we tried them. Meh. They are ok but I doubt I would order them again. Nothing special. The eggplant dip here (kashk badenjoon) is my favorite food. It is absolutely wonderful. Being my favorite Persian food I have ordered it is several restaurants across Atlanta and I assure you, this is the best one! We had the shish kabob, the chicken barg, and the koobideh kabobs. You have several options for rice here but I always get the shirin rice. It has orange peel, barberries, nuts etc and is absolutely a joy to eat. I could skip the kabobs and just eat this! We also had dessert. The baklava is nice. It is served with a small scoop of cardamom ice cream that is absolutely delicious. The shrimps were good as well, very fresh and decently sized. We also got some great rice recommendations from our server and I'm glad we experimented and tried different rices. Rumi's Kitchen is a contemporary restaurant serving Persian food. It is a chain that has locations across Georgia, although the one in Sandy Springs and Alpharetta (this one) are my favorites! The interior is gorgeous and the service is great, although it can take a while for the entree to get to you. It can also get busy here so make sure to book a reservation. We got the Lamb Shank and Chicken Barg. My boyfriend thought the Lamb Shank was okay... it was tender but not a lot of meat. The rice that it came with also had a pickle-y taste that was interesting to him. He said it tasted "outdated" or "medieval." I got the Chicken Barg (my go-to here) and it was just as juicy, tender, and delicious as it was at the other Rumi's Kitchens I have been to. The rice paired well with it. Overall, I love this place!!! Definitely one of my favorite spots to eat at in Georgia. read more

Rumis is our go to place for nice meal every couple of months. We love the appetizers and entrees. The Chilean sea bass is one of the best things I have ever eaten. The cocktails are awesome. BUT I always end a little disappointed as the desserts are a let down. I feel they have to invest in a better pastry chef as the offerings are and have be sub-par. We have tried them all. Last night we tried the chocolate hazelnut torte. Once again it was two samples and we left it. This place is amazing. Well, I have to flame the management of this location... it's Mother's Day today. My niece booked a table for her, my wife (her aunt) and me, where I would meet them there after the two of them went to the Ballet event today. Found out this week her dad back home in Pennsylvania is in the hospital, and her Mom (who has been divorced from dad for decades - different story) who is moving here to Georgia, needs help packing and has to be out of their house by the end of May. So, yesterday morning, she asked to cancel the reservation for a table for 4, mind you. And they declined, instead charging her $200 as a penalty! She called and spoke with the manager, he refused. I called and spoke with the manager, and he again refused. We have been going to this place one or twice a month, since it opened an Avalon (love sitting outside). Told the manager we were regular customers and have lots of friends who eat there, could he please make an exception. Nope! Treated me like we were lying to him. I have never been treated to poorly by anyone at a restaurant since I was in NYC ( occasional jerky owners there). Wanted all of you to know what jerks they are! Table for 4 on Mother's Day is like gold and will not go unused. They could have been accommodating. Instead, we will never visit another Rumi's again. There are plenty of other options for Persian food. I intend to discover all of them and offer my reviews to the Yelp community as we discover them. If you look me up here, you can see I always give well thought reviews of places that deserve the credit, to help out small business owners in the biz. My waiter as very knowledgeable about the popular dishes ordered and so we did just that. Ordered! Kashk Badenjoon - subtle, salty, and flavorful. 4/5 Green tahini humus - 5/5 nutty and delicious Roasted cauliflower and shallot torshi - 5/5 this was my favorite appetizer out of the 3. With the citrusy lemon and crunch from the cauliflower, this was a great dish Barg Kabob 5/5 - tender, well season, and flavorful beef that had me screaming for more. Lamb Kabob 5/5 - tender, and cooked to a perfect medium. I love the ambiance of the location and it is very popular. Even on a Friday night, parking was pretty easy. The appetizers were great and I loved the salmon entree. The salmon portion was the largest I've seen at a restaurant in recent memory. I didn't eat much of the rice or the tomato. I'd definitely return. Amazing experience here at Rumi's! I was hosting a work dinner with about 16 people and we had a great time. Service was perfect, they were very attentive. With our group size we had to do family style which actually made it very easy, food just came out and it was a ton!! The mezzes were all solid, the meats were juicy, tender, and flavorful. Nice tables and settings, fancy decor, and they have a "private" room for parties- it's really just the back of the restaurant. You (generally speaking) need a reservation. However, if you have a small group (1-4) you might be able to get a table on a walk-in. It's ALWAYS best to make a reservation here though. They have $2 valet parking and heaters beside a couple of couches outside so that while you await them bringing your car back to the entrance, you can be comfortable. My mom got a chicken dish- really good. It was all in the bone, but the chicken was tender and had a ton of flavor. I had the Lamb Kubideh- perfectly cooked to a medium rare- so juicy! My sister got the beef skewers and my mom's boyfriend got the chicken skewers. Everything was delicious! The meats were juicy, tender, perfectly cooked, and all were served with perfectly steamed basmati rice (some with saffron some white- I requested all saffron). Since we also had the falafel and humasiya starters with pita bread, not a single one I'd use could finish our meals. We all took a second (leftover) meal home and everyone reported that the leftovers were fantastic too. My mom said that the chicken, which I de-boned for her, was maybe even better than when it came out originally. ‍ I figure that's on account of it being de-boned. I had a first date here once that earned me a second date. This place is great. Love Rumi's and hope that they always stick around! Sandy Springs location. Where do I start. Arrived about 12 minutes before reservation as I drove an hour through Atlanta traffic and 2 accidents. Valet parking not set up so I parked my own car. Was told I had to wait outside until my reservation time (now 9 minutes) Receive a phone call asking if I am going to make my reservation (in 7 minutes)? I told them I am in the parking lot as I was told not to come in. Finally go in and is seated. That was ok. No customers in there. Waiter presents menu $$$. We ask for lunch menu. Was told there is none. Web site has one posted. We show to waiter, they go find somone (manager)? After 5 minutes or so - we are told the lunch menu stopped years ago and it was not taken off web site. Not our fault. What would they offer? Nothing We were told to order from dinner menu or leave. These guys charge 125 per person for adults if the party is/or exceeds 10 people even though there is a toddler and children in the reservation. Fine I can respect this. But none of us drink and there are senior folks in the reservation. They expect all of us to meet 125 minimum individual. To me that doesn't make sense at all. Been here twice now... ambience is vibey, service is solid, cocktails and food are decent. My favorite dishes here are the lamb sausage hummus and the sea bass entree.
