Stopped here for a late lunch on an unexpectedly cold, hail-y day. I love Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food and usually eat at somewhere like Roti, but I was drawn in by the photo of the wrap. Service was fast and the food was delicious and not expensive. I got a falafel wrap and the falafel was cooked really nicely, not dry at all. Was a filling meal for sure. I would love to come again! read more

Such delicious Middle Eastern food!! You know when you don't get your food immediately then they're really making it fresh...and that's exactly how it tastes! I ordered the falafel wrap with a side of fries and grape leaves and LOVED it! My boyfriend ordered the Wicker Park plate and he devoured the entire thing! Highly recommend for good and casual Middle Eastern cuisine. read more

I'm visiting my sister and I decided to eat here and in all honesty, I would move from my home in Georgia to eat that Wicker Park platter everyday. Came in for lunch today thanks to the Cheap Eats Deck from a la card...and this was good food. I'm not sure it takes the place of my top two in this category (Falafel & Grill, Taza), but this is still right there...particularly when it comes to one specific menu item. I dropped in and had the All-in-One, a mix of chicken shwarma, gyro, kofta, and falafel on a bed of rice with salad and toppings on the side with a piece of pita bread. The rice was tasty, the meats were well-prepared and smelled great, and the side fixins were super fresh. All of it was fine, and after a couple of bits, I realized something--the folks upfront had forgotten my falafel. So I walked up to remind them, and they brought out three falafel for me to sink my teeth into. Whoa. Falafel is the very, very best thing I tasted today and maybe in my reasonably-long falafel eating career. Perfectly crisp on the outside, perfectly tender on the inside. Didn't need any sauces at all to improve the quality. Served hot, but not too hot that I couldn't bite into those things right away. I would say that if I come back here, a falafel-only plate or bowl or sandwich would be the way to go; truly excellent food. The space is great, with lots of room to spread out with larger groups, and prices are fair for the amount of food you get. Also, the music in here was urban, just the way I like it; hip-hop, some I didn't recognize, a little loud, just right. Pick up that deck if you haven't already! $5 off 52 different restaurants in Chicago, and that thing has already paid for itself. read more

After seeing Rumi on "Chicago's Best" we had an instant craving - too bad it was after hours. We finally got our act together and remembered to order before 9:30. I am happy to report we are beyond satisfied with our orders and the portions were very generous! It was well worth every cent. We went with the "Wicker Park Special", "All in", and "Chicken Shawarma Plate". This is by far the best ME food I have had in ages! The gyro, shawarma, kofta, and Kabob's, all so delicious and flavorful. The rice was cooked perfectly and so fluffy. Their falafel, pickles, salad, and hot sauce were soooooo good - everything left you craving more and more. My fav part was after eating (probably more than I should have, quarantine calories don't count) I didn't feel weighed down and heavy, as rice usually makes me feel. I highly recommend Rumi - it had turned into one of my go-to's after tonight's awesome experience! read more

I've been going to Rumi's for a while now and after trying some of there meats like chicken shawarma, chicken/lamb kabob, & kofta, I have to say that they are cooked to perfection and consistent every time. Unfortunately some restaurants aren't consistent in my experience. I always get the chicken shawarma plate with extra lamb meat or chicken kabob. Their falafel is also the best I've tried in the city. If you have a sweet tooth try their baklava! Although I do recommend more of a variety. Friendly staff, great music, and very spacious. I recommended this place to my friends and now it's always their go to. So glad I finally found a spot that cares about quality. Their meats are also halal! Love this place. Go Rumi!! read more

I have tried the other middle eastern restaurants in the wicker park area and happy to have finally stumbled upon this one. I'd say this is the best in the area. Ordered takeout of chicken schwarma, gyro, and kifta kebab. The chicken schwarma is delicious (sauce is a must though) and the cucumber salad was perfect! Nicely balanced and seasoned and fresh (no slightly mushy cucumber). Kifta kebab and gyro were both delicious. Kifta wasn't dry and nicely spiced! Prices were also super reasonable! We will be coming back for sure! read more

Usually I love this place but I had a pickup order today and didn't look inside my bag to check everything before I left (usually don't find this necessary). When I got back to my office, I noticed they forgot my falafel I paid for but I had to quickly eat and head into a meeting so alas, I just paid for no falafel. Bit of a bummer. If you're trying to live a dreaded paleo lifestyle and wonder why more middle eastern fast casual spots don't sell great salads with multiple Arabic salad dishes (tabouleh, fatoush, Palestinian salad), hummus, and meat....this is the place!! I'm literally salivating thinking about how great this place is. They don't skip on ingredients or serving, and their food is top quality. Every time, from the moment we walk in until we are finished and ready to leave, the staff is always attentive & always ready for any one of our needs. The food is always phenomenal. Staff is super sweet. We can never get enough of the Lentil soup and Hummus. Everyone is beyond professional and polite with us along with every customer that's walks in. Food: Great Service: Good This is one of my favorite take out spots in Wicker Park, and by far my favorite Mediterranean takeout in the city. I get the chicken schwarma wrap and it is the perfect amount of food - PACKED with flavor. The pickles in it are semi life changing. Food is always fresh. My boyfriend likes to get their Gyro Poutine. It's pretty darn tasty too. They have also taken great care during the pandemic. They don't allow people in the restaurant, you wait outside and they bring it to the door. read more

Love this place - it's convenient, affordable and most importantly- DELICIOUS! Their crave bowls are my go to but their wraps are really good too. My top place for Middle Eastern food. The food was super appetizing. The place has a great feel to it. This place has many reviews for a reason. I with my family often like visit this kind of restaurant. Everyone always happy ,even the kids and the gluten sensitive persons. It's hard to please everyone. The beef shawarma was awesome and the yellow rice was super good. My lamb kebab was cooked perfectly and was so much I had it for dinner and lunch. The hummus is some of the best I've had yet. I love all the different sauces you can choose from and the garlic tzatziki and white sauce are amazing as well as the tahini. and last I love that they have kids menu where my son can actually get chicken or beef shawarma with rice and salad instead of chicken nuggets french fries or a cheeseburger. Prices are completely on point for the quantity and quality. The food really was delicious and reasonably priced. Next time I would order right through their website instead of Grub Hub. They offered free delivery and $5 off our first order. Excited to try something new for Rumi. read more

I have to knock Rumi down a star for their takeout service. I used to have a great experience going into the restaurant and ordering food to go, but now that it's not possible because of COVID, my order constantly gets messed up. Highly recommend checking your order every time. I always order the chicken shawarma plate, but without the hot sauce it's not anything super special. They have been good about refunding me when necessary, but it's annoying to have to do that each time I order. read more

Pretty conventional Mediterranean food. Nothing really crazy about it as couple of YouTube videos showed. We did a takeaway via Grubhub. Ordered chicken pita and chicken kebab plate. Quantity was on the lesser side not sure if it was take out. No complementary pita hummus as many restaurants provide. Don't order the lamb plate unless you want to be hungry afterwards. 5 pieces of meat and some dehydrated rice. I'm assuming if you ordered a cheaper cut of meat you'd get more, like beef or chicken, so order that. If not, don't order anything just go somewhere else lol. read more

This is a relatively new spot, but I've been here several times already and I love it! All of the meat they serve is seasoned perfectly! My personal favorite is the chicken shawarma. The falafel is so fresh, and made exactly how I like it. Try their sauces; they are definitely such a great addition to the meals! The soup is sooo amazing, especially in this cold weather. It just warms my soul. There are lots of gluten-free and vegan options for those with special diets, too, which is nice. The prices are so cheap, especially for the Wicker Park area, where it seems like everything is so expensive. The owner and employees are very hospitable and kind. Great service! Great food at very economical prices. I had no problem communicating and making the order and have no idea what one person said about glass??? The young men running the place are eager to help and to provide quality food at a very affordable price, that will make Rumi a favorite. That being said, you must try the hummus and the beef kabobs... if you want them well done, make sure you ask for week well done. I am visiting from California and this place is similar to some of the good restaurants in SoCal and we have a lot there. If you like your food spicy ask them for Shatta .... it's a red sauce of crushed peppers with tomato sauce...... I was too hungry to take a pic of my food, maybe next time. Enjoy! read more

About time a great Med restaurant opens up with authentic food and mouth watering food! Come get your Falafel & Shawerma ( Beef or Chicken) fix here. They opened up today and it couldn't have been any better. The owners are people from the community that go way back and I used to hang out in this area all the time when my dad had a TV repair store just a few buildings away. For our family reunion, I came here with my family for dinner, and this restaurant really captivated my taste buds! Their dishes were absolutely delicious, and I was relieved that I had not wasted my time by traveling to this place cause honestly, I had no plans to come to our reunion, but my mother forced me into doing so, which is why I'm here today. At first, I thought the food was all too bland for my taste, but I was completely wrong because it was all absolutely delicious!! Even though I'm not a big fan of leaving reviews, they deserve to have a good and positive review, which is why I decided to write a brief review. This place is for real great. I just moved to the neighborhood from Lakeview and this spot easily puts all other fast casual Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food to shame. The food is very fresh,l and it lasted the night in the fridge for my following lunch. The service was good as well, they are certainly new but from what I have seen I will be heading back dinner in the near future. UPDATE 7/10/16: I recently took a friend to the restaurant and they were very slow/didn't take our order correctly. Seemed like a unique instance and I know they are new but it was a bad experience. We were craving Mediterranean food and decided to dine here. We ordered soup, which was served a little cold, so we called the server and asked to change our soup because we didn't want to be disappointed, and he was thankfully easy to talk to. We also got an all-you-can-eat platter, pita, grilled chicken over basmati rice, and fries. There's a lot of food, and it's very flavorful! I've only been here once and I would like to go again. I ordered the Chicken swarma and it was delicious! I like at this place that you can customize how you like it. They asked me if I wanted it in a wrap or a pita. I ordered the pita because that is what I am used to, although as I watched them make it I think I would order it in a wrap because it looks like it would be neater to head. There was nothing wrong with any dish I ordered, and I would happily eat every item again. read more
