Been wanting to come here for a while because I've heard good things and I'd seen it a couple times while walking down Milwaukee. Finally found a day when I was able to come in and try it. When I stepped in, there were no other customers which made me feel so type of way since it was a Sunday afternoon when everyone is out for lunch! Regardless, I proceeded to order a beef schwarma pita and fries, but then felt awkward and confused because it was unclear as whether I should pay right away or wait for my order. The worker took my order and didn't say anything else. I also wasn't sure what I should do next. Eventually they asked me questions about what I wanted to put into my pita. The worker didn't speak very loud so I had to ask him to repeat a couple times and he wasn't able to hear me super clearly with the glass in between us. The pita was good and extremely filling. I wish the meat was cut and shredded a bit more because it got difficult to chew off pieces. The fries were crinkle cut and were seasoned with pepper, but only at the top. They give you quite a bit, but were too much for me after I finished the pita. The restaurant is very roomy and has a TV. Food was decent, but the service was eh. read more

I wanted chicken kabob, which is made to order so it took an extra 10 minutes but it was so worth it! Came in for lunch today thanks to the Cheap Eats Deck from a la card...and this was good food. I'm not sure it takes the place of my top two in this category (Falafel & Grill, Taza), but this is still right there...particularly when it comes to one specific menu item. I dropped in and had the All-in-One, a mix of chicken shwarma, gyro, kofta, and falafel on a bed of rice with salad and toppings on the side with a piece of pita bread. The rice was tasty, the meats were well-prepared and smelled great, and the side fixins were super fresh. All of it was fine, and after a couple of bits, I realized something--the folks upfront had forgotten my falafel. So I walked up to remind them, and they brought out three falafel for me to sink my teeth into. Whoa. Falafel is the very, very best thing I tasted today and maybe in my reasonably-long falafel eating career. Perfectly crisp on the outside, perfectly tender on the inside. Didn't need any sauces at all to improve the quality. Served hot, but not too hot that I couldn't bite into those things right away. I would say that if I come back here, a falafel-only plate or bowl or sandwich would be the way to go; truly excellent food. The space is great, with lots of room to spread out with larger groups, and prices are fair for the amount of food you get. After seeing Rumi on "Chicago's Best" we had an instant craving - too bad it was after hours. We finally got our act together and remembered to order before 9:30. I am happy to report we are beyond satisfied with our orders and the portions were very generous! It was well worth every cent. We went with the "Wicker Park Special", "All in", and "Chicken Shawarma Plate". This is by far the best ME food I have had in ages! The gyro, shawarma, kofta, and Kabob's, all so delicious and flavorful. The rice was cooked perfectly and so fluffy. Their falafel, pickles, salad, and hot sauce were soooooo good - everything left you craving more and more. My fav part was after eating (probably more than I should have, quarantine calories don't count) I didn't feel weighed down and heavy, as rice usually makes me feel. I've been going to Rumi's for a while now and after trying some of there meats like chicken shawarma, chicken/lamb kabob, & kofta, I have to say that they are cooked to perfection and consistent every time. Unfortunately some restaurants aren't consistent in my experience. I always get the chicken shawarma plate with extra lamb meat or chicken kabob. Their falafel is also the best I've tried in the city. If you have a sweet tooth try their baklava! Although I do recommend more of a variety. Friendly staff, great music, and very spacious. I have tried the other middle eastern restaurants in the wicker park area and happy to have finally stumbled upon this one. I'd say this is the best in the area. Ordered takeout of chicken schwarma, gyro, and kifta kebab. The chicken schwarma is delicious (sauce is a must though) and the cucumber salad was perfect! Nicely balanced and seasoned and fresh (no slightly mushy cucumber). Kifta kebab and gyro were both delicious. Kifta wasn't dry and nicely spiced! Prices were also super reasonable! I get the chicken schwarma wrap and it is the perfect amount of food - PACKED with flavor. The pickles in it are semi life changing. Food is always fresh. Everyone always happy ,even the kids and the gluten sensitive persons. It's hard to please everyone. The beef shawarma was awesome and the yellow rice was super good. My lamb kebab was cooked perfectly and was so much I had it for dinner and lunch. The hummus is some of the best I've had yet. I love all the different sauces you can choose from and the garlic tzatziki and white sauce are amazing as well as the tahini. and last I love that they have kids menu where my son can actually get chicken or beef shawarma with rice and salad instead of chicken nuggets french fries or a cheeseburger. This is a relatively new spot, but I've been here several times already and I love it! All of the meat they serve is seasoned perfectly! My personal favorite is the chicken shawarma. The falafel is so fresh, and made exactly how I like it. Try their sauces; they are definitely such a great addition to the meals! The soup is sooo amazing, especially in this cold weather. It just warms my soul. There are lots of gluten-free and vegan options for those with special diets, too, which is nice.
