Since my first visit I've fallen in love with this place. I get the falafel in a pita now and it comes with. Ore ingredients than most places. The cucumber salad is a nice touch on the sweet falafel. I tip regularly now and have a punch card. Also falafel sandwich is huge and under $5. Worth it. read more

2.5 stars for Rumi... I was not impressed, especially for the price. It's not expensive, but not cheap. The food was average, not super flavorful and they were super skimpy on portions. I got about half a spoonful of tabbouleh because there were "running low" and 3 onion slivers. And everything is extra, including feta. The Hummus was good and authentic. But everything else was just eh. To top it off, I asked for water, and they get it from the sink behind the counter where they wash their hands... Overall, there are much better place to eat for better prices. read more

Nothing special. Favor Sultan's Market. Got the falafel salad. Not a ton of veggie sides to choose from. Would be nice if you could mix in extras like chick peas, quinoa, corn & other hipster-vegan, colored goodies but sides are limited to the traditional Middle Eastern stuff. I waited till after the second time I ate here to write this review. I just wanted to make sure my taste buds were not fooling me the first time, and they haven't. This is officially one of my fave places for Middle Eastern food now. The food is just clean, healthy and truly delicious and the service is always super friendly. I go to a lot of middle eastern / Mediterranean restaurants in and around West Town. Most people think of Sultans when eating this type of food in the area, but they would all be pleasantly suprised to find that this place is actually way better. Everything they have is so damn tasty and fresh. What you'll learn after going to a buncha places like this is each place has a slightly different recipe for there chicken and other dishes. Whatever they are doing here is exceptional and really is the best chicken shawarma I've had in Chicago. I try and go once a week and I've never had a single complaint about their food. Simply really damn good middle eastern food. Would highly recommend if in the area and want a lot of food for a pretty affordable price. read more

Pretty decent food for under $10. I got the beef kofta kebob plate with a bunch of salads. The portion is a bit smaller than other similar places, but that's for the better :). The beef needed some salt and pepper, but overall pretty good. Will return to try their other stuff. read more

I got the all in platter for ~ $11 to try a good number of their meats. For fast casual, they recook your meats and toast your pita breads while you wait, to add to the freshness level. But the food wasn't that good. The meats were very salty and dry, especially the kofta kabob and gyro. The falafels were dry and not fresh at all. The chicken schwarma was better but still not that impressive. It's a good amount of food for $11 - the platter includes the above meats/falafel + rice + cucumber salad + pita + hummus. They also had the choice of adding sauces (white, tsatziki, spicy sauce), all of which were also okay. It takes some time to get your food since there are only 2 people on staff and they warm everything up once you order it. It's in a convenient location, with paid street parking. read more

We ended up in Rumi yesterday almost on accident and I'm so glad we did. If you are on Milwaukee, do not walk by. Proceed inside for delicious kofta and falafel. Pretty clean Chipotle-style operation, but not too corporate-feeling, and the guy behind the counter was extremely personable and seemed proud of the food he was serving. I had a kofta pita which I took his recommendations on but it seems you can't go wrong and the prices are pretty decent, like you can get a good falafel side with sauce and garnish for $2 and my loaded wrap was $6.50. This is the best middle eastern restaurant in downtown. Their chicken shawerma is very distinct and tasty. I also enjoyed their gyros. They just started a bussiness special that is a great deal. The atmoshpere is also great with spacious seating. I paid with my phone which is always convenient. Finally the owners were there and they made it a point to talk with some of the customers and make us feel welcomed. Definetly a returning customer. read more

This place is clean with open kitchen. We had beef shawarma and lamb kabob plate, and a side of falafel. All tasted really good. The falafel is freshly fried and doesn't have the old oil smell and dark color as some other places may have. The portion may be on a average-to-smaller side, but given the price it cannot be complained. They even provided us with a small sip of lentil soup, which was absolutely delicious! One thing this place needs is probably a signature dish, given the fact that restaurants in this neighborhood are competitive and often come and go within a blink. My new favorite place for Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food in Chicago! I tried the gyro pita and the 3-piece falafel by delivery for my first order. The food arrived in less than 30 minutes and was unfortunately cold, but easy enough to heat up myself and still absolutely delicious. Had never been here before. After seeing a rerun of Chicago's best I wanted to try something new. Rumi's did not disappoint. All of the textural nots and variety of flavors from the Wicker Park platter were amazing. Red sauce had to right amount of heat to complement the hummus. I was looking for some yummy Greek food before ending my work shift. This place was yummy. The service was very nice and he offered me some lentil soup while I waited for my platter to be ready. I enjoyed my chicken and rice, however they put some other meat in with it I wasn't so sure of. Also I ordered the meal to include rice. This place has literally the best falafel I've ever had outside of the Middle East. They make and fry it fresh so it's warm, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and incredibly flavorful. We went here on a lark and were blown away by the food! The interior of the restaurant is unassuming and doesn't have too much character, but it's clean. We had the chicken shawarma and gyro, and they were amazing. The chicken was succulent and the vegetables were fresh, and the spices and sauces were amazing.
