I will give them 2 stars for the Band, but that's it. We went there tonight. We ordered drinks at the bar and once tables opened we sat down. We ordered burgers and gator gumbo for appetizer. We waited 30 minutes+ and never got our food. It's the 1st time ever I have walked out of a place. It wasn't even a really busy night. Compared to a Friday or Saturday night. I was surprised to have a $5 cover at a bar on Beale Street, but the house band made it totally worth it. The owner said they'd been playing there for 15 years I think, and they still seem so passionate and I really loved the music. We sat in a back corner by the bar so we could still chat a little bit. Alright, so passing through Memphis we wanted to get some great food....looking at all the reviews we decided to stop here. The ambience is awesome and the people are friendly! Buuuuuut the food sucks! It took approximately 30 min for our pulled pork sandwiches w/fries to come out; that would be understandable if it was a full house. They were great, the vibe of this place was laid back and it wasn't over crowded considering it was a saturday night. We didnt order anything so I can't comment on the food or drink. Pricey, strange drink prices....my vodka redbull was $9.13 and my hubby's Miller like was almost $5. Plus, the bouncer was an ***hole. Not impressed by this place at all. Seemed dirty too. Only thing positive I can say about this place was that the band was decent. read more

We are here for lunch. Loved the ambience, guitars hanging from the ceiling. You can tell this would be a fun place when the bands start playing in the evening. We had fried green tomatoes, fried dill pickles and the BBQ nachos. Loved them all, but their fried green tomatoes were the best we have ever had. This is my kind of place: dark, dingy, and loaded with ambience. There are guitars hanging from the ceiling, live music, and a great selection of drinks. We went in here early in the afternoon and there was a young lady from England behind the bar and she made us a mixed drink that was not even on the menu, it was awesome and packed a punch. This place was right down the street from our hotel so it could not have been more convenient, you should definitely pay the Rum Boogie Cafe a visit if you are in Memphis! read more

The music got me... I was in Memphis one night for work and seeing a couple good looking BBQ places on Beale Street, I had to pick one of them to eat at. It came down to the music playing at the time and that's when Rum Boogie Cafe entered my life. I went the pork sandwich way which was good and had a nice smokey taste. Great BBQ sauce too. I ate outside on the patio so I could see the action on Beale street while slopping my face. Nothing like the smell of urine and puke to make my sandwich taste better. Really helped me take in the whole expirience which I recommend. Great blues playing on the patio. The inside was really cool too. Sort of swank which is perfect for the blues expirience. He then followed us to the next establishment and pulled us out of the club saying that we couldn't go there either without an ID. We got in fine the night before. We went in for some food after the Red Birds game and drinks. Found a spot at the bar but had to wait on the bartender to finish his cigarette. Kinda found it funny a place would allow their workers to smoke while working, but whatever, ventilation was fine so didn't bother us. We ordered a beer, the nachos & a fish sandwich. Fish sandwich was AMAZING! Great piece of fried fish, perfect sized and texture bun, and lettuce, we doused it in Louisiana hot sauce and tore it up! Yummm! Nachos sucked, lifeless chips with strings BBQ beef, jarred pickled jalapeños, cheese sauce of some sort, chunks of not great tomatoes.... Just not good all around, but we picked at them. Service was fine, our bartender was a little awkward.... Not someone we worked to converse with which we usually love to chat it up with the bartender. Atmosphere was fine, random live music acts, a few songs from one person, then someone else would get up on stage and do their thing. Nothing was great EXCEPT FOR THAT FISH SANDWICH!!!!!! This is my favorite club on Beale. Music has been local and good every time I was there. Beer selection is OK as is the food. Prices are decent. Meh... For the selection available on Beale St, I don't know that I would come back here. The band that was playing was enjoyable and the beer prices were good. But that's about where my compliments end. Granted we showed up a little on the late side for dinner, but our server said that it wasn't a problem at all. Our server was very friendly, though a bit absent minded. We had to remind her 3 times what we wanted to drink before we got it. The food was mediocre over all. The ribs were the highlight of the meal. But between our party we had ribs, pulled pork, meatloaf, and a wide variety of sides. That way everyone could sample what was available. None of the sides were worth revisiting sadly. The pulled pork was ok, but nothing that set it apart from pulled pork anywhere else. The meatloaf was dry and bland. Back to the ribs. They were tender, well smoked, and well sauced in the Memphis wet style. I enjoyed them and will remember that part of the meal. The biggest let down was the fact that the dessert course that was supposed to come with my meal never showed up. I asked about it when our server brought us our check. She said she would go and grab when she brought our check back to us. I signed the tab, but never saw the server again. I left after 25 min of waiting for her to come back by the table. It's a shame as we were all looking forward to tasting the fruit cobbler of the day. No such luck though. I don't see me visiting Rum Boogie Cafe again on my future trips to Memphis. Perhaps just to sit at the bar and enjoy a beer while listening to the music. But I know for SURE I won't eat here again. read more

My wife and went to the bar on October 24, 2020 for lunch. We hadn't been out to a restaurant in a while. Well my problem started when they brought me 4 wings that were on the menu for $13.99. Well I thought it was going to be the normal 10 wing pieces. even though it was 4 whole wings, I don't feel I got my money's worth...and fries were extra. 2nd issue the bill came and to my surprise if I paid with my credit card they were going to charge me an additional 3.9%. I opted to pay cash instead. When the waitress brought me my change she only brought me $17 and no coins. This would not have been so bad had I been given options to forgo receiving my change (Due to a coin shortage), but that wasn't the case. So of course I became petty and asked that they give me my change. I was totally polite to the waitress. I made sure she understood that my displeasure was not with her, but management. I even tipped her a little extra since she had to hear this complaint, even though the manager was sitting 2 tables away from us and did not come over to take ownership of this unfair practice. Long story short, read over your receipts and know if there is an additional fee for using a credit card or not. And imagine how many customers they may have had that did not get their change back. That adds up to a nice sum of money that they are receiving for services not rendered. Since this pandemic I have looked out for the service staff by giving them exceptionally larger tips due to less people dining out. Even if I order for take out, I would tip them when I pick up my order. So I took serious exception to their 3.9% extra policy and not giving me my change or giving me an option to forgo it. I will not be dining here again. read more

Sure it says "cafe" in the name, but this place is home to uber-talented musicians and cold beer. Absolutely had the time of my life on my two visits to Rum Boogie. read more

Admittedly, we were quite tipsy and very hungry, but my husband and I devoured these ribs like we'd never see meat again in our lives. They were very tender and flavorful and crumbled right off the bone. We just happened to stumble in here after hearing some great music next door and we're happy we did. It's on Beale St. so of course it's touristy. The vibe was fun and lively, and those ribs were tasty. It's a good spot for those looking to counteract the Jack Daniels with a snack while enjoying the live music on Beale. read more

This place has charm, character, and a flavor of its own. The band was flawless! The lead played the harmonica with ease, and the showman ship was wonderful! This venue was full of "the Blues"! There was a cover at 7:30 on a saturday night, that's pretty early in my opinion. Our friends were sitting on the patio and we were meeting them with the Intention of not staying all night but just for a few drinks. When I brought up to the doorman that our friends didn't pay a cover and I could easily buy a drink at the Silky's window and stand on the sidewalk to hang out with my friends, he didn't seem to care that his bar would be losing $$. Pretty pretentious for a place that doesn't deserve to be IMO. Go to Silky's and save on the cover and attitude. read more

Some time has passed since I went there, but what I do remember was that the BBQ Pork dinner with cole slaw and okra was really good and filling. Most importantly, the service was excellent. After my meal, I stayed to watch the AFC and NFC Championship games, and my server kept refilling my water without me ever having to ask. The place itself had a very unique decor and a real laid back feel. Outdoor seating was also available and great for people watching. All in all I think this is a great place with a nice vibe, good jazz music, very good food, and excellent friendly service. read more

Great Beale Street bar, just the kind of music you want there, but empty on a late Saturday night even though the Street was full of people and the Eric Hughes Band was in usual fine form. Don't get it. Closed down before 1 a.m. Great band, sweet and gritty rocking blues, but they seemed disappointed with the crowd -- and deservedly so since only a few out of hundreds were apparently willing to pay a small, reasonable cover charge to support what Beale Street is supposed to be all about -- great music and fun. Beale Street is not what it should be, a sullen, desperate Street party that doesn't really know how to let the good times roll. Even so, the Rum Boogie Bar is the most authentic music venue on Beale Street, and I've tried them all. Don't miss it if you venture down to Beale! read more
