We were quite surprised with this place. We shared an appetizer of calamari which we thought was good. Nice and crispy, not too oily. She had the fish special with risotto and she delighted in it. I had a ribeye in bone with small round roasted potatoes - for some the potatoes may have been slightly over cooked but I like them that way. The ribeye I ordered medium rare but came closer to medium. But it was good. I'm not that picky. Drinks were fabulous. She had the watermelon margarita and I had a vanilla orange old fashion. This restaurant is located in a quaint village shoppe at Wading River. Since last Autumn, I've visited after spending a day at the local farm. This year however, it was very disappointing to walk in, request one of the specials and served another dish poorly cooked. If visiting, order the shrimp scampi or crusted salmon. Stay away from the Chicken piccata: The cook served a chicken francese instead and even that dish was not good: Perhaps served on the assumption that I wouldn't know the difference. A few of my family and friends: Italian!! Hoping that by the Holidays, a chef experienced in Italian cuisine is hired, and a bartender , both on a full time basis. In addition, one waitress isn't able to effectively cover two areas of full tables effectively. please hire more wait staff, like those in the past: inspired and motivated to work in a restaurant. It was my second time at this restaurant and it will be my last. I will say that the staff is lovely but the food is not good. Started with fried calamari. It was so chewy and tough we left most of it. I had cavatelli with meatball. The sauce was thin and bland and just awful. The meatball was neither fried nor baked (seemingly). It was a mushy ball of meat. Texture of canned dog food and no flavor. Each person at our table had something different and all were disappointed. What a shame. Family and I came to Ruggeros on a rainy Friday night. We were car-camping at Wildwood, and the rain presented dinner options of either cold granola bars, or jumping in the car and finding a restaurant. I have no shame in opting away from the granola bars! We four of us got there about 7:30p, and there was ample seating. If our waiter wasn't a manager, he may have been the owner, he had a nicer shirt than the other waiters and he was telling the kid waiters what to do. I mention that because despite this, his "sense of urgency" was lacking. I'm not sure if he was trying to project a European pace, or if he was just in the clouds, but, yeah. Bread came with garlic-herb butter (tasty), but we had to ask twice for regular butter for the kids. Pacing was slow. Food was better than average, chicken francese came out just the chicken, no vegetables. Not that I mind, but in case anyone would find that annoying, take note. "Single-serve" portions are huge, I wonder what the "family-style" portions look like. My review seems a bit bitchy, I think I'm pointing out everything I didn't like because *overall we had a nice time and a nice meal*. I quite enjoyed the service and the speed of the food. We went during Aug and I was able to order GF pasta. The manager of the shopping center was super nice and gracious we came to support it. We really liked how sanitary the place was. The biggest turnoff during Covid times is a place disrespectful of the vulnerable (health-wise) and elderly. they did a great job offering sanitizer and masks for those without. I went last night with my husband and another couple. We wanted to eat outside because of the Covid situation. The menu is limited which was a tiny bit disappointing. But I have to say the experience was absolutely lovely. We ate outside right near the carousel which was not too noisy and was very nice . The food was absolutely excellent everybody loved everything that they ordered. Lots of shrimp dishes and they prepared the shrimp to absolute perfection. Went here on a Thursday night, and was a poor decision. The overall service might be the worst I've ever seen while out dining. No one was at the hostess stand to greet customers to be seated and after 5 to 10 minutes, when they finally noticed us and others, we were seated at our tables. That was the last time we spoke to a staff member , after about 30 minutes of not seeing a waiter , and after seeing other diners get up and leave , we decided to do the same . my family went there for Thanksgiving, my turkey dinner was not presentable, they literally ran out of turkey n put only chunks if dark meat with bones still on the meat. We complained n the second plate came out, no better, n the waiter was very apologetic, n it was unacceptable. They should have said they ran out of turkey, instead of just putting whatever was left. I made a reservation on open table and we were seated right away. Service was quick, and we had our drink order taken right away. The butter they serve with the bread was really good. We skipped apps to keep it light, as my sister in law was getting married next door in the morning. The location of the restaurant is in the shop area, so it made it super convenient to walk over from the hotel. She had the lobster ravioli and loved it. I ordered the salmon oreganata and it came with 3 huge pieces of salmon. Definitely big enough to share. I was able to swap the broccolini for asparagus with no problems. I went there recently with my family. We had reservations at 7pm on a Saturday night. It was pretty empty and sat us quickly. The music was extremely loud. It was so loud we could not hear each other and basically needed to yell or lean very closely to hear anything. I have up trying to speak with anyone who wasn't next to me. We were seated in the enclosed outdoor area. There were 3 parties in the whole restaurant and it took almost 45 mins to take our order. I had to ask for more bread 3 times and I had to go to the bar to ask for a refill of my drink after asking the waiter twice. It seemed like he never worked at a restaurant before. First and last time eating at Ruggeros. I should have known when I sat down at an Italian restaurant and the first item on the menu is just "Chicken wings" that it would be bad. The waiter brought out glasses and a carafe of water, and both the glasses and carafe were dirty with solid food and black spots, I unfurled my napkin to wipe the cup down and found the napkin was also soiled with chunks of tomato. Entrees came and were small portions and very underwhelming. The vodka sauce didn't taste like vodka sauce at all, and I always get penne alla vodka, as it's my favorite. I also sampled my wife's meatballs and we both agreed they tasted like nothing. Not bad or good, just tasteless. I believe that we were taken advantage of by the staff on duty. We called at 11:30am on a Monday after a funeral service at Calverton for around 14 people. We looked online and saw a lunch menu that said it was served Monday-Friday 11:30-3:00 and we decided that would be acceptable for a family wanting to treat those who had attended the service. We were greeted and seated and handed menus. They were the full dinner menu. When we questioned the host about the lunch menus (which were piled on the host station) we were told 'we're not using that menu today. I truly believe we were not given the lunch menus on purpose and a grieving family was taken advantage of because they knew we weren't going to go anywhere else. Bad business and I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. There was also a much larger post funeral party of 50 located in the back, I'm wondering what menus they got. Never again. read more

Food was disgusting. I'm not trying to be rude, I'm really not. I don't understand these Italian places that think they've cracked the code because they serve large portions with tons of cheese and garlic. That's not what the cuisine is about at all. That's just lowest common denominator pandering to people who think that covering something in a table-cloth-size pile of melted mozzarella makes it "Italiano." As someone who grew up eating Italian cooking, I find it insulting, not to mention nauseating. The Eggplant Rollatini appetizer was barely room temperature when it was brought to us. The server ended up taking it off the bill and admitted "this has been happening a lot lately." The mozzarella balls tasted like they had been frozen and defrosted (fresh mozzarella would never be that color or consistency) and the chicken sorrentino was thick, chewy, and garlicy. The brownie dessert tasted like it came out of an Entenmann's box. Basically, not a single thing tasted like it hadn't been sitting around for a few weeks waiting to be eaten. Best of all, as we were waiting (close to an hour) for out main course to arrive, we heard the loud, obtrusive sound of dishes breaking. "Probably our food," my dad said sarcastically. Which was funny, until the waiter told us that, yes, our dinner had indeed been fed to the floor, who to be fair probably was less hungry and disappointed than we were by the end of the evening. The waiter (who clearly deserves better) got a workout the entire evening apologizing to us and trying to elevate our experience beyond the bottom of the barrel. When the bill arrived, we had been comped on around half of our items, even though we had scarcly complained. It was almost as if he knew that just by staying the duration of the meal we'd suffered a grave misdeed. I've only encountered this sort of damage control in one other setting--the reality show Kitchen Nightmares. Tonight, my family had the experience of starring in our very own episode. But now, I wait and wait and wait.....over an hour since my appetizers with nothing....nothing. The waiter told us that the kitchen is backed up but I keep seeing takeout orders coming out. Apparently, the management believes that people dining in don't matter and they can make more money with takeout. Awesome gem in East Wing Shoppes. It's always difficult finding vegan options at places so I was glad to find one here. I got the broccoli and penne in oil and asked for it to be exchange for sauce instead and they did. It was a lunch special that was very cheap for I believe 11.00. There were five of us and no meal was up to the quality four of us have previously experienced. The menu was considerably smaller but that's understandable if a bit disappointing.
