We have been having a tough time finding a good motel in Pendleton. The rugged country Lodge was great. We both enjoyed it and so did our yellow Labrador. The owners were courteous. The room was very clean and well decorated and the price was just what it should be. Hal'shamburgers up the street was a quick stroll with great food. We say we would stay here again and would encourage all rafters and other travelers to stay there too. read more

Firm mattress ensured a good night's sleep. Wifi and TV were good. I appreciated the charger outlet device. Staff were friendly and parking was good. Breakfast options were better than I expected: yogurt, cereal, bagels, muffins, cream cheese, fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs, hot beverages & juice. The breakfast area was nicely decorated, and the chairs and tables were clean & comfy. It's obvious the owners have tried hard to provide a nice experience. They actually use metal keys, a throwback to simpler times. Nadim was very welcoming from the start. This place is charming and an excellent value. The room, sir spacious enough that I found the place very quiet. Also very easy to get on and off highway 84 but still quiet. I will definitely stay here the next time I am passing through Pendleton. This large is a solid four star and all it would take to make it five for me for what it is, is a little better breakfast. All in all, and excellent and comfortable value. read more

Most reviews are spot-on. This is an older establishment but very clean and well maintained. The A/C was loud but efficient despite the extreme heat (I also appreciate the "White Noise" to block out any outside noise, which we did not notice at all despite having a room facing the main street.) Everything worked, including Wi-Fi, fridge, TV (lacks some of the modern perks like USB ports, etc.) with good water pressure, lots of hot water, sufficient parking right in front of our room, comfortable beds, etc. There is a lack of counter space in the bath, but a small inconvenience. The staff is very pleasant and helpful, willing to do whatever is necessary to ensure a pleasant stay. We didn't visit the Rooster Room for breakfast as we were in town for a reunion and ate out with family and friends both days, but will stay at Rugged Country Lodge again. read more

We are used to staying in a specific hotel chain and when we came to Pendleton- "my chain" did not have a hotel here. We chose the rugged country Lodge based on the ratings and the pictures we saw, and we were not disappointed. This was one of the cutest hotels we stayed at along our five week journey. The proprietor was pleasant and accommodating. Our room was charming, clean and quiet. Gideon Bible in the drawer - always a plus! Bed was comfy. We stayed here with our dog for a night. A very clean lodge with breakfast available in the cost of the stay. Totally worth it! Nadeem (manager) is very friendly and checked us in smoothly. There's a dog park just 2 minutes away, fully fenced & has a big enough grass area - a pretty good one. It is also very close to the famous Pendleton mills if you're interested to tour or shop. read more

We've visited Pendleton many times and have hopped around to seven of the big chains, but decided on this trip we'd venture out a bit. We're so glad we did. We chose the Rugged Country Inn and we think we've found the ideal place for future visits. It's quaint, with a 50s vibe in the shower tiles, but all hardware and facilities have been upgraded. The first thing we were impressed with was the helpful son of the owners when we made the reservation and at check-in. Our handicap parking space was right outside our door. The room was on the smaller side, but had all the usual amenities, including a shower chair, which we've never seen before in a motel. It was SPECTACULARLY CLEAN and the proprietor was quick to wash down the breakfast tables. The continental breakfast lacked the pancakes/waffles other motels have, but there were still a lot of choices and the orange juice was in a gallon jug, not in a dispenser that oftentimes produces more water than juice. We didn't hear any road noise, and the train rolling by a short distance away 1-2 times during the evening/night was rather soothing. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the bed and bath linens were soft and absorbent. The price was 2+ times less than other accommodations we checked. The wi-fi was fast. The homey touches, including a garden in front were nice to see. We highly recommend the Rugged Country Inn and will go back. read more

Unfortunately we were a bit leery of staying in this area. Homeless folks in the parking lot, just weren't sure about the neighborhood. A dog was barking non-stop from one of the rooms, so we were concerned about the quiet as well (that ended up not being a problem, as we were placed in a room on the opposite end of hotel.) Walked into the building to a Lysol smell, just a bit... unpleasant. The room was clean, bed was comfortable, so not bad for a quick overnight sleep. I'm always surprised when hotels don't see the need for multiple electric outlets on each side of the bed. We ended up pulling the bed back from the wall to reach the one available outlet on one side of the bed for my phone. My other devices went uncharged. Overall a good value for the price. read more

This is a stop for us on our way East. Took a chance after searching and very pleased with this beautifully maintained and rather historic lodge for a night. Place is really well made and everything is so nice. Beds super comfortable and shower very strong hot water. Staff is very friendly and coffee was really good and small pastries perfect for our early morning breakfast bright on the main road and I highly recommend this. Reminds me of the well built motels we stayed in as children on the way to Idaho. Please do stay here and support smaller businesses in the area. Our dog lived it too. read more

Stayed at this motel on 10/22/22 and it was perfect. I needed an affordable, pet friendly room with safe, well-lit parking and Rugged Country Lodge fit the bill! My room was decorated nicely and, more importantly, was spotless. Pet friendly rooms often smell heavily perfumed but my room (123) just smelled clean. Hotel owners were very welcoming and polite. My son couldn't get a hold of me and the owner himself came to my room to check on my well being! Nice breakfast set-up in the dining area and excellent coffee (hotel coffee is usually watered down, but not here). The dining area was also exceptionally clean- even with guests coming in and out. Well lit parking and the grounds were very attractive. I felt safe leaving my car unattended with cargo in the back. I also felt safe taking my dog out in the middle of the night. I rated 5 stars because this facility met my needs, was a fair price and outstanding service. The bed was also very comfortable and the a/c ventilation kept the room a perfect temp. So you wonder what a bed & breakfast motel is? It's this place. It's a motel by all sorts of thoughts. There's lots of rooms, a parking lot, and it's not just someone's house. But the rooms themselves are cute and have a bit more personalization than your run of the mill type place. The boyfriend and I decided to stop in Pendleton due to convenience on our cross country trip. We called a few hours before we anticipated arriving and they had a room available. They were kind and helpful and understood we couldn't exactly estimate our arrival time and held a room with no problem. Upon arrival we were directed to room #1. The room was a decent size and had a cute old-school bathroom. The front desk lady was more than useful with information about what we could do to kill the rest of the evening and promptly gave us the password to the wireless. Unlike many of the hotels we stayed in across the country, the wireless actually worked here. The room had a mini fridge and a microwave in it, which would have been useful if we stayed later. The bed was heavenly and after hours in the car for days in a row it was amazing to sleep in for a night. The room had a list of things you could check out from the front desk and return when done, which was only frustrating when I realized there was no hair dryer once I got out of the shower. Luckily, the boyfriend ran to the front desk for me instead of making me go out with the wet hair. The breakfast in the morning was pretty good. Typical pastries, oatmeal, and fruit and some homemade gravy with (probably not homemade) biscuits. The staff was friendly and helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. read more

Rugged Country Lodge makes me want to lace up my big girl boots, don my Pendleton chola shirt and crack a cold one with Smokey the Bear. What the hell am I talking about? Well, frankly, there is nothing rugged nor lodge-like about this sassy little motel but it's super clean, high on the atmosphere scale and the service is fantastic. Breakfast is served in a separate little dining room with a couple nice tables and a decent spread. All in all it was a pleasurable, if too-short stay. read more

2nd time in 2 weeks we have given this mom and pop hotel a chance. NEVER again. Both times I booked Queen suites. Per the listing it has a sofa bed with a pull out couch for up to 4 people. Both times have been given dinky rooms, no couch. This disgusting room has a broken lamp, dingy sheets and it is right next to the smoking section (we are not smokers, yet 3 people keep hanging out loudly smoking) There is at least half a dozen old tv's sitting directly in front of our room. It is tacky. This is the absolute worst room I have seen here. Went back to lobby and it is locked, lights out. I have seen better rooms at America's Best Value. Save your money, go elsewhere. Even the pizza place we ordered from, said this place has gone down hill since it was sold. read more

I was pretty sure I wanted to stay here based on previous reviews by others, but ended up checking in at the Best Value Inn with my coworkers closer to downtown. The Best Value was fine so it took me some time to move on over to the east side of town...I was so glad when I finally did. I was first drawn by the garden beds out front (little did I know I'd finally get to dig in and work on them as I got to know Gordon, the very friendly manager, a bit better). I worried the train would both me. It didn't. I was not sure there would be a good internet connection. There was. I knew the rooms would be clean because of the reviews and having previously gone to look at the rooms. Clean and with character. The colors are warm and friendly. The room is not super huge, but it is fine for one indeed. If you check into the upstairs room it is worthwhile to truck your belongs up to where you can have windows in many directions and the privacy of being up high. There are drive up rooms too though if you feel burdened to haul all of your belongings upstairs. Enjoy some true small town character. No, you aren't right next to the downtown stuff, but this is a pretty small down. You can get anywhere on foot if need be, but a two minute drive will take you everywhere you might need. Nearby is access to the pedestrian trail along the Umatilla River where you may view locals at bat during softball practice or jog the entire length of the town. Gordon bakes too. Do not be surprised to find fresh baked cookies in the lobby. read more

It's an older motel. We stopped because the reviews were good and other hotels on this trip have been terrible with Covid protocols. My husband hated the bed, I thought it was comfy enough. It was clean but all the furnishings are pretty old. There is a ton of road noise and the train going through at night literally honked his horn at least fifty times, no joke.
