Food was very good. Bread, steak sandwich, fries, and dessert. Everything was delicious. Would highly recommend.

Inside is a busy dining room with roughhewn decor, lots of light wood and plenty of fish items. The open kitchen takes up one wall with counter seating, then some 2 person booths and a step up to bigger booths with menu chalkboards. The menu is divided between breakfast and lunch/dinner. Fairly classic diner menu with the significant difference of steelhead trout as a protein option. I ordered the seafood chowder and the steelhead hash. The soup came out in a minute or two, a very nicely presented small bowl of thick chowder stuffed with shrimp, fish and seafood, nicely seasoned and topped with some green onions. The chowder was delicious and very hearty. The hash was out a couple of minutes later, a plate loaded with diced potatoes, onions, peppers and pieces of steelhead trout topped with 3 over medium eggs and sided with 2 homemade biscuits. The hash was very nice, although if I get it again I would ask them to crisp up the potatoes, the trout works nicely as it is a mild fish with just enough flavor to stand up to the hash, the eggs were tasty and the biscuits were excellent. Overall a delicious and satisfying dish. Chagrin River Diner is a real find, it serves upscale diner food in a comfortable environment at reasonable prices. Service was great, the atmosphere is unique for the area, this place would feel right at home in a Rocky Mountain resort town. I will be back to Chagrin River Diner and try some of the other menu items.

The crispy spuds are smashed taters in the best way and I really enjoyed my carnitas omelette! We shared a chocolate pancake and this place does the cakes justice. "Hook and Hoof" has been in downtown Willoughby for quite a while so they must be doing something right. And the fact that there aren't that many high level dining establishments in the Willoughby area helps. The first thing I noticed was the facility is very narrow which lends to a crowded feel. And all you need is one overly boisterous table (which was right next to us) and the noise level can be overwhelming. The server we had for the evening was very pleasant. She did a good job being timely with everything. But, it was odd that she often did not listen to an entire request (or maybe just couldn't hear) before walking away. There were a couple of requests for simple standard items that she wasn't even sure they had. I just found it odd. The food however was excellent. The kitchen staff did an exemplary job all night. I had a marvelous cocktail from the well stocked bar. And my double cut pork chop was fantastic. So full of flavor, juicy, cooked exactly as I requested. The sides that accompanied it were just tender enough without being mushy. And my banana cream pie was great. Overall, I give "Hook and Hoof" a solid 4. I definitely can see us going back. They deserve another try. You should give them a try and see for yourself.

The prices were astronomical so my daughter and I just ordered meatballs and potato wedges. I really wanted fish but there was only ONE fish dish on the menu and I didn't like how it was going to be prepared. There's a big disclaimer at the bottom of the menu that says "no substitutions or modifications". Geez, for a $40 fish plate you couldn't have modified it for me?? The meatballs were good, but came out luke warm. The wedges were good. The atmosphere was nice. For 3 meatballs, 5 potato wedges, and a 15% tip (she lost 5% due to not asking us for drinks) our bill came to $45. I *wish* I was joking. We won't be back. I honestly feel like I just got ripped off.

But once you walk in, it's surprisingly huge inside and really nice! It was pretty empty when we went, which made it feel relaxed and comfortable, and the servers were all very friendly and attentive. I ordered the hibachi chicken and shrimp, which was only $18 -- and I paid $4 extra so I could get both rice and noodles. Totally worth it. The portions were huge and everything was very tasty. The best part by far was the noodles and veggies -- so flavorful and cooked perfectly. The chicken and shrimp were both great too and you get a ton of food for the price. Overall, such a good value and a really solid hibachi spot. Don't judge it by the outside -- it's definitely worth going in!

When you pull up it looks like a dive from the 1960's or a small Soviet bloc, not many windows and just a square little building, but you come inside and the people are inviting and friendly and the food is out of this world. If we were not looking for this place specifically, I know we would've driven right past it! It's a standalone little building and the only markings I saw outside was a little sign that said BAR. But it was 2 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon and there were several cars in the parking lot, which is a good sign. The inside is really tiny. There's a large U-shaped bar and about six tables. We looked in the menu and opted for their famous Smashburger. It is $14 and comes with fries. It is a double patty cheeseburger. I did not want a burger that big so I opted for just one Patty. They said that was no problem, but the price was still the same. I also got onion rings, which were $3 more. The food came out really fast and you could tell it came right out of the fryer because the french fries were super hot! This place is called a dive bar, and I guess it is - but on a Saturday afternoon, the place was filled with all kinds of people. On one side of us was a family with little kids. On the other side of us was a couple in their 20s. And then the rest of the place was filled with people from every age group. I have to say that the music they play there is fabulous! But back to the food. The burger was seasoned really well! It is a smash burger, but they're still able to make it crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Our server was really good. She did not hover, but she was around to see if you need anything. Depending on the vibe that you're looking for, if you want more of a bar vibe, you should go in the evening, but we were happy to just be in a relaxed little joint with good food. They opened up another Crowley's in Painesville so we will probably have to try that one too.
